OK guys, the general opinion is that each artist pick their own neo character, so then it's decided.

The contest 'starts' today, December 4 2007, and will run through January 4 2008.

Simply create one submission (any artform/media is OK. Drawing, painting, sketching, sculpture, action figure, etc.) what you will be entering is an image- so any form of scan or pic of your work is fine. Obviously, since people will be voting, make the image file of your submission clear and lively.

So then, the rules:

-Submissions shall be in the form of .JPEG or .GIF images at internet resolution (72dpi) not too large as to mess up a thread featuring them being posted into it. (Help me out with those official dimensions guys...)

-One submission per contestant

-Nothing dirty/pornographic/overtly hentai

-ANYONE registered at neo-geo.com can enter. Please include your user name in your submission email.

-email your image file (along with your NG.com member name and any information you want included with your drawing) to:

peterpancomplex@hotmail.com

This is my current email address, and although I will enter the contest myself, I am COMPLETELY impartial and all submissions will be included in the contest. The only rules that apply are above.

So, we have a full month- and don't anyone be discouraged from entering if you don't think you're a good artist. Go nuts people.

Glad to see things finally getting under way. Big props to Neobuyer for getting the ball rolling and coming up with the idea in the first place!

As far as picture size goes, how does 600 pixels wide by 800 high strike everyone (that's the max resolution Photobucket, which I use to host images, allows, which is why I suggest it)?

Is a collage of photos, all contained within one single image, acceptable? The reason I ask is that when I do a sculpture, I like to be able to show it from multiple angles. Alternatively, I sometimes do animated gifs of the sculpture rotating 360 degrees, but those can get rather large (generally 200-300 kb for a relatively small one), so I don't know if you'd want to see something like that or not--I certainly don't want to bog down the voting thread.

I can't wait to see the final products of this contest. Good luck everyone!

P.S. - @neobuyer: You should cross post this in General and get it stickied. I know all entrants will see it here in Creative, but for people who don't visit this forum often. That way the art all gets seen, and there will be a more active voting contingent.

Yeah, I was thinking about making a post, only thing is, I thought I'd give it a little time to gauge the responses- because I know most people probably haen't begun their drawings yet. After the submissions are cut off in January- THEN, technically, is when the contest actually begins. The voting and all. I should try and talk to the mods seriously about stickying the thread in general though, good idea.

Also- just in case people are thinking the contest is all about super great technical artwork- I really want to see funny, wacky stuff too. As many people that enter the better. I will be all over getting all the stuff properly organized and online and ready. I think this could be really cool if we get lots of entries.

It might be a little late in the game to change it up, but in the spirit of the above quotation, IF you get enough submissions, maybe there could be a couple different categories to vote in? (e.g. "best drawing", "funniest", etc.)

It could be a good way to help even-out huge discrepancies in technical ability.

Or, if not in this contest, then perhaps in a future one.

Just a thought.

If there's support for it, it's cool by me.

Let this thread be a place for everyone's last minute suggestions.

We have a month or so to finalise the voting procedures.

I like that idea as well. In addition to an overall "Best" winner, it'd be great to nominate bests for other categories.

...and I hope people won't be scared off just because they can't come up with something super-hyper-professional looking. Rare posted a great Ralf & Clark pic in the other thread that I found to be absolutely loaded with awesomeness.

Damn. I'm feeling a little intimidated, but I'll give it my best shot. I know there's a lot of talent around here. Best of luck to everyone. :D

Heh, it's due on my birthday.

I also agree that the multiple categories thing would be a good idea, provided there are enough entries to support it. How would that work exactly in practice though? Can you have multiple polls in one thread, or would you have to have separate voting threads for each category?

If your submission of Ralf and Clark is not an accepted entry, everything about this contest is wrong.

Erm, JPEG and GIF? What do you have against lossless formats (i.e., PNG)?

Question: could I enter my fiance's work w/her permission?

Um, I suppose if your fiancee registers and makes at least a post on the site, and emails it herself, I suppose. But it really is for BG.com peepz and the like. But I have no problem with someone registering to enter, for the most part. But people should enter their own work.

As far as formats, if anyone feels that they don't want to submit a gif or jpg- well fine, send it how you like and include directions on how you want it converted/displayed.

I just want a lot of entries.

(Oh- PS- animated GIFs are cool too)

Well, I finally decided on a submission.

Neobuyer--it should be in your inbox soon.

Should I spill the beans as to what I'm submitting?

I will say that it's in color pencil.

I think I followed the rules.

One character. But I'm not going to bother with a background.

Can I go ahead and post the submission from my photobucket account on my own in a thread? Or do I wait for you to post it up?

I'm eager to show off my work.

Let me know back, eh?

EDIT:
Drawing submitted.

Danadamkof once made the best hand drawn SSII insert that I've ever seen...

Wish I still had it.

Oh, and remember, please send your submissions to my hotmail acct:

peterpancomplex@hotmail.com

I rarely (for some reason) get notified of my N-G.com PMs , and check them irregularly. So, yeah- go send to my hotmail acct.

BTW- I have yet to recieve a single submission yet, which is fine, but if I don't get anything by next week I will have to extend the deadline. I am actually considering pushing it back a full month- to make sure everyone has enough time. It's all about participation, and pouring out our fanboy-ish love for our fave Neo characters.

You sure, man?
You must have one crazy spam filter.

?!
Just checked my email out box. It's there for sure under "NG.com Art Submission."

Okay, I know it's sent this time.
Look for "Neo-Geo.com Art Contest Submission" in the subject line.
If you still didn't get it this time, I'll just post up from my photobucket account.

This sounds cool, I look forward to seeing some nice stuff up here. But, I have a couple of questions.

Will the contest winner receive a gift certificate to NCS, Play Asia or something? Sorry if this was already covered.

We can only submit one character, not a group pf characters on a single page?

Rather than sending our work to someone, why not create a thread here that's purely links to photo hosting sites for submissions and voting. And ask people not to write any comments so it's easy to find just the artwork.

Or ask Shawn to create a gallery or link to a photobucket gallery where all the works are hosted. Regarding the images, have them all conform to the same size and have each artist put a small watermark of their neo-geo.com name on their image noting who the artist is.

NeoBuyer: My submission is done, but as I stated in the other thread, I’m holding off on sending it in the event I decide to make something else instead (I have several ideas floating around inside the blighted wasteland I call a brain, it’s just a question of sitting down and turning them into reality). You will definitely be getting the Omega Rugal ’95 figure as a submission, if I don’t churn out something else in the near future, before the deadline expires.
