The Wind Rises - this is the Ghibli movie that came out last year. It is trash. Miyazaki has gone senile and created quite possibly the most self-masturbatory film of his career. Neckbeards undoubtedly love it. I wonder what the neckbeards/SouthtownKids here think of it.

I really liked it.

And I think he's entitled to a few vanity projects now and again.

Was Sabotage good? I kind of wanted to see that. Actually, that's probably why I watched Last Stand.

It's.......it is good and it takes the old school Arnie approach and cranks it up to 12 with a lot of swearing( Arnie has a line where he yells at a guy that he is going to fuck him in the ass and not soft like a bitch but real hard and fast so he knows there's no affection in the ass fucking ), whole lot of violence( no problems here but it's basically violence porn as during a car chase they make it a point to show bystanders getting riddled with bullets and a game of "that guy is a bigger asshole then that guy".

It's really a shock at how this hard R rated movie not only got made but came out in the theater with a wide release

I saw Winter Soldier and I don't feel the way Taiso does. Why? I don't know. I enjoyed the first Captain a lot.

What did I like about this movie? I liked the winter soldier as an enemy. It was very cool. The effects were top notch. The choreography was also excellent. Great fight and action scenes.

I thought that Scarlet Johansen had some great acting scenes. Her displays of emotion were believable and complex.

I also liked Falcon.

But I guess there were two problems I had. One was that the scope of the crisis kind of made me scream "where is Iron man? Fucking Thor?!" I mean these damn ships have the ability to wipe out mankind and the rest of the avengers are on holiday.

And don't get me started about how Spider-Man is never helping anyone.

I love First Class most of the marvel movies so far, and the Wolverine from last year is my second favorite. I get the feeling that Xmen Future Past whatever will be the best of all of them. Even though xmen is just a metaphor for the gay community.

This is the kind of thing I always interpret as 'the other guys are busy.' If you read comics at all, this sort of shit always happens. And i understand that regular audiences have all the same questions you do, but I interpret it this way:

Thor is in space and Tony Stark doesn't have armor anymore after the events of Iron Man 3, so he really cant do anything. Until Avengers 2 establishes that Tony's in a position to actually do anything, all he can do is sit around like everyone else and wonder.

Banner is probably half way around the world hiding from the problems he's always hidden from and ran away from.

Hawkeye is the only real question mark, and he could easily be 'on assignment' somewhere. Perhaps specifically to keep him from hooking up with Natasha and Steve. Maybe he was even trying to get back but was being cockblocked at every opportunity.

None of these things ar explicitly stated but they're all reasonable conclusions one could draw if they wanted to fill in the plot holes.

And don't get me started about how Spider-Man is never helping anyone.

Marvel can't put Spidey in a movie. And anyway, this movie takes place in DC and Spidey is in New York. Even if they COULD use him, he'd never get there in time.

All of that makes sense.

One thing I noticed, not a gripe just observation:

Ralph Fienes looks a lot like Ben Kingsley.

just saw Under The Skin

Not bad, nice visuals. (but what do you expect with ScarJo roaming around in an alien creep van seducing random guys for no apparent reason)

reminded me of a long artsy X-Files episode sans FBI agents + the added bonus of Scarlett Johannson gettin nekkid.

anyone else see it?

The Raid 2 : Berandal - Holy Shit. Take Triad/Mob movies, add Donnie Yen/Ong Bak style bone crunching, realistic hand to hand brawls, overly excessive violence and gore (a tad more excessive and gorier than the first Raid) and you get Berandal. If at the end of The Raid 1, you didn't know where the next story would head (moviewise) at the end of Berandal you still don't know where they'll take the story.

Lucky enough there are a few theatres in town showing it (limited hours though).

Wolf of Wall Street was the shit. Leo's best movie by a mile in my opinion.

I thought it was boring. It felt like a better version of American Hustle.

But I did really enjoy this

The Brood is such a underrated Cronenberg movie, Oliver Reed was perfect in it

This is on my must-see list! Also looking forward to Under The Skin.

Quick question for everyone praising the new Captain America.... Did you like the first one? I am hesitant to watch this sequel because quite frankly I found the first one boring.... (sorry!)

For someone who has got problems with accepting a poster boy as a super hero (don't even get me started about all the patriotic sub text) I liked the first one fine but I loved the second. They also finally got comfortable with his shield and put it into some amazing scenes. And for a comic movie the story is quite ambitious.

I watched Donnie Darko for the first time last week. Really amazing movie. I had no idea it was going to deal with time travel and tangent universes. I always thought in highschool it was some movie for goth kids, so i never watched it. Mistake indeed

I think with the first one being boring, it became easier for Cap2 to outdo the first movie. It even makes his character much cooler than when he was in the Avengers movie.

so, after 2 movies (Avengers and the first one), i would say this is the first movie where Cap is actually awesome. This movie is more of a must see in comparison to Iron Man 3 or Thor 2 (essentially post Avengers so far)

cap america 2 - political espionage, yawn. falcon stole the show. why is bucky the bad guy and how did he not age 70 years. why did they put a post credits scene when they already had a mid-credits scene, fuck i didn't know that. why didn't crossbones wear his costume. why didn't batroc do any leaping. ummm overall i guess yeah it's definitely a marvel superhero movie, and i'm not sure why the fuck i keep watching them because none of them are great.

no it wasn't.

the sam raimi spider-mans were good. x-men 2 was good. all these 'marvel cinematic universe' movies are average at best.
