That's it !

I know it's not world record which is about 5.000.000 but i didn't find on the net official higher score in Europe for this game

Yes, your score is the new western record. Congrats !

The previously highest known western score was 3.074.680 by a French player called Suricate.

The world record is 5.201.180.

Still love this game. Once you die it's pretty much over, so you have to treat this as a one life game. Best I've been able to do is get to the 4th level boss.

the fact that you don't just respawn where you die makes this game a real challenge, even with unlimited credit.

in my all time top5 shmups for sure.

Only way to see later levels is to set it to two player mode which allows respawning. I did it once to see the later levels in action.

Good to see I'm not the only one that has problems with that crab. I just recently acquired this game for AES but I had it for the Playstation back in the day and don't remember having any problems with it. After watching a couple of videos of the Playstation version I much prefer the music for the AES.

Play station version is absolute garbage. Period.

I honestly hate checkpoints in games. Viewpoint is always on 2p Simultaneous for me. It's just a personal preference. I only play 1 credit at a time, though. I like to choose my challenges ;)

As for Viewpoint, I can get to the crab boss pretty consistently on 1 credit. If I'm up on my game, I can get to about mid of level 3 on 1 credit, but after that it just gets nuts. I can't imagine ever beating the game on 1cc. That's just damn impressive in my book.

I absolutely love this game, but at the same time I feel horrified. Yes, I have passed Viewpoint but only after hours upon hours of dedication. Most are saying that the crab is the worst, but believe me and some others here when we say that the Level 4 skull boss is by far the most ruthless motherfucker ever conceived. His pain is absolute. He will mock you repeatedly until you cry tears of pure agony and when you think you've mastered his treachery, he begins his sea of torture once again. Trust me, you will feel like you've been shot, stabbed, raped and skull fucked before passing him even becomes a possible outcome. But when the stars align and Christ Himself grants you passage, nothing in life can compare to the euphoria. No one can call themselves a true gamer until they can truthfully say they passed level 4 on Viewpoint.

Been playing Viewpoint on and off since release. Came back to it after owning it for 8 years before finally beating it. 1 cc'd it multiple times. Got to the last boss with one life multiple times to, but he always takes me down the first few tries. The 4th boss truly is a skill block. Level 5 is a joke if you get past him, but the level 6 boss still gives me trouble.

If you die it doesn't mean it's over. There are a few places that can be true; areas where the bullets are dense and a power up is not readily avaiable. If you die at a boss, they always give you back your power up and one bomb.

I started a thread here last year for strategies, secrets and high score tricks, but the site refused to sticky it, so I abandoned the effort.

Okay, I have a strategy for the crab now. Use two bomb/special weapons to destroy it´s right scissor as soon as possible. After that there is much more room on left side of the screen to avoid the bubbles. It helps a bit if you also keep shooting at the bubbles. It takes some time but eventually the crab will evolve into a wave blasting brainfucker . This is where the third bomb/special weapon should be used and that is sometimes enough to kill it.

At the moment, I get raped by common enemies on stage 3 :(

edit: Got to the skull boss. The third phase with bats is where I always die. I think I used more than 100 credits and finally gave up as my hands could not take any more button mashing. Will try again sometime later.

So I made a let´s play video:

And looks like the second part corrupted somehow. Of course. I´ll probably end up remaking it at some point.

That "Oh Fuck!" during the crab boss cracked me up. I want to see somebody 1cc this game without cheating if it's even possible.

Such a great game but I just find it to much a pain that I haven't really gotten into it.

I can get to the first boss.. He shoots out the 2 lasers and I'm good with that.. Then he lets out a load of bullets and I die every time.. I am the worst SHMUPS player ever.. I fly into bullets.. I don't know why.. There will be 2 on the screen and I'll fucking fly into one.

Viewpoint is actually an "easy" game, the problem is that you need to find and memorize a specific pattern for *each* moment, otherwise it is likely to end pushing start button more than A.
My experience is that you can individuate two kind of patterns, a "good" one and the "perfect score", but not middle-ways.
Unfortunately, as each step is highly conditioned from the precedent, moving from good to "perfect score" requires a almost complete rebuild of your patterns.

First boss has a safe spot where you can rest letting pass the bullet storm ,usually it is right/bottom wide area.

This way it will take longer to kill it, as you skip a turn of offense, and probably won't be the best in order to demolish the two cannons before the main body.

Right approach is to stay in line while shooting and dodging bullets , destroy first the cannons, then the main body, without "resting" in safe spots.

Or you can just kill it with one flameshot/red special weapon. (look at my video on post 41, fast forward to 3 minutes 30 seconds)
