I'll give props to SS III. It looks beautiful (the backgrounds are great and well detailed), the animation is smooth and the overall gameplay is tight. I dig SS III, but with Tam Tam, Jubie and Charollet gone something doesn't feel right.

SS3 is myt favorite of the 4 and i think it is a underrated game big time. Or maybe 4 is a little over rated ?

After logging some game time with ss3, I can say in retrospect that it seems to have inspired or attributed to snk's later work. It has a few kof elements (a+b dodge/turnaround, charge pow meter), plays similar to garou and retains some previous sam sho flavor. I really like the darker, richer look of the game and fluid animation. The sudden death background changes really set the tone for the end of the match. Much more atmosphere when compared to previous sam shos as well, with the music and again the changing backgrounds. I've grown accustomed to the gameplay which seems more about skill in taking advantage of your opponents mistakes than sheer force. Defensive strategy with sudden quick moves when your opponent leaves himself unguarded works best for me. In my opinion, this game was ahead of it's time.

Dark atmosphere, death feeling, Japanese traditional look...

SS3 = best in the series.

I love all four SS games and I don't see how people can hate any of them.

One thing I disagree with is people saying IV is "not part of the series" Dammit III is more like IV than it is like II. People on this board complain that the SS games aren't enough alike and the KOF games are to much alike I wish people would decide what they freakin wanted.

Amazing how a spark can become a fire eh? SSIII is in many circles considered "the link weak" of the SS series, but in this thread you wouldn't know it would you? ;)

I just miss the presence of characters like Gen-An, Wan-Fu, Charlotte, Tam Tam and the rest.

I don't understand the 12 character roster. Why not more? Why "take a step back"? Did they intended the smaller roster as a means to simplify? I dunno.

Not a bad game IMO. I'll admit it's not one of my top faves, though, but it can be pretty good. Especially when you're in that "samurai" mood.

I initially purchased my Neo for the Samurai series, and if it wasn't for my desire to own all the SS games, I probably would've passed up III because of all the negativity I heard about the title. I am glad I didn't. I gets the most play by far, and I dig the intensity of the fights. One fuck up and you're fucked - granted that applies to all fighters, but more so with SSIII. I don't understand the inclusion of two lifebars in SSIV, it just takes up more of the screen.

The case of SS3 home cart is definitely my favorite. 4's art might be more sophisticated, but I prefer the snaplock and pink over all the others. Game itself is also cool. If I ever decided to waste money on the ss series, I'd pick up one copy of ss1, ss2, ss4, and 10 copies of ss3 to stack on my shelf.

I did feel kinda odd about the pink at first, but it grows on you. Aside from the game, the art is uber kickass. Somehow it fits tho.

The cherry blossom design on the pink/white coloring of the insert... the plain cool art on the cover... one of the best NeoGeo insert ever, gotta admit.

Happy new year and stuff...but anyways samurai showdown 3 kick major ass...why because that's the only one i own from that series. Seems like they sort of move slower the the first 2, but it's ok. And the damage is a little screwy...they should of work on it a little more, but overall a great game to own...if you don't own this then what they hell are you waiting for...get it already.

I'm going to shit on your parade and say SS2 is my favorite. SS3's damage is just too high.

Well, I don't care much for Tam Tam, but the exclusion of Charlotte, and more importantly, Jubei really sucks...

*sigh*

When will people realize the damage for all four games were fucked up?! My fastest clear time for a round in SS II was 89.83 with 3 AB slashes with Genjuro (One was a counter hit.).

I've said it before and I'll say it again, removing Hard slashes would have solved the damage problem, period.

SS3 is a thinking mans shodown... getting killed by hard slashes constantly is the equivalent of getting killed by jump kick+sweep in street fighter. It's all about smart guards, dodges, and counters...

Come on, SS3 isn´t bad at all, but have you ever played SS4 yet?!? It´s the ultimate Samurai Shodown, really!!!

Ok, SS3 still have amazing backrounds, even the sfx aren´t that bad, but if you´ve ever played SS4, it´s just a good game! Nothing more!

btw: I love the "Basara-Stage!!!" Reminds me on "Ninja Scrolls!!!"

SS4 is a pile of garbage. What should have been a refinement of the good-but-flawed SS3 turned out to be a kludgy, ugly hack job. Animation cuts, moves lost, worse control (where SS3's is absolutely dead-on perfect), washed-out palettes, hit inflation galore, dumbed down joystick commands, recycled and uglified stages, less music, not to mention that it's even more poke-friendly than SS2 (and that's saying something).

And all this "less" in a higher-meg cartridge.

SS4 is the absolute bottom of the Samurai Spirits barrel. :p
