    bust a move confusion

    hello,
    im wondering something.

one of my favorite games on saturn was bust a move 2.
but i thought "bust a move again" on neo geo was the same game.

i just picked up taito legends 2, and their bust a move again
    is retarded! but why?

i know the game as having funky sounds, and goofy colored animals.
this version has barely any music, no characters, and explosion sounds!

what is the neo geo version?
is it the arcade game i remember,
or is it this funky steering wheel weird crap?!

Well, here's Bust A Move Again:

Hopefully, that's similar to what your playing on TL2.
Now we will set the crackers!

    nope,
    it looks like this:

notice the steering wheel instead of a dino.
the music will play the first part of the actual music,
then be silent. backgrounds are weird, an even the font is strange.

this is what the usa version of
"Taito Legends 2" has in it as "bust-A-Move Again"
just came out for ps2.. GameStop exclusive..

its really weird to play it too.
im a huge fan of the series.. i own a lot of
the sequels... but this plays like a bootleg.
if it hadn't been officially release, i would
    call shenanigans..

Yeah, that's the US arcade version of Bust-a-Move Again. No Bubble Bobble characters, the odd "history of the Earth" backgrounds, etc. It was never actually released on home consoles.

....wait, the music is mostly silent? Seriously? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Taito couldn't be bothered to redump their own sound roms to fix the problem the game had in MAME for the longest time?

(backstory - the US version of Bust-a-Move Again actually has a completely different soundtrack than Puzzle Bobble 2. Taito F3 cartridges have a sort of region control, like the Neo-Geo. So Puzzle Bobble 2 and Bust-a-Move Again both contain the same game on there. But for some reason, Puzzle Bobble 2 does not have the same sound roms, so if you try to play Bust-a-Move Again on it, it tries to play the music from Puzzle Bobble 2 instead... but it plays it at completely wrong times, or not at all. This is because nobody had bothered to actually dump the sound roms from a US Bust-a-Move Again cartridge. Eventually a cartridge was found and dumped for support in MAME, and as of version 0.104 or so, you can play it in MAME with the correct music, the way it actually was in the arcade. Of course, you'd need to find the updated romset on the net...)

So in other words, they just used the MAME roms and didn't even notice that the music was completely wrong compared to the actual arcade version. That is hilariously amazing.

    so..
    theres an "arcade" version
and a "neo geo arcade" version?
i just tohught them to be the same.

i kinda figured this to be a us version..
but for a collection released in 2007..
i would have hoped for the better version
of the game.. or at least, each variation?!

    interesting..

    thanks

Usually the "arcade" version of a game is the Neo Geo version. This is a rare exception. The Neo Geo version of Bust A Move Again is the bomb. I never liked Puzzle Bobble before I played the Neo Geo sequel.

the biggest kick to the balls
is the back of the package says it has
    puzzle bobble 2.

    maybe a code?
    most likely a misprint

it also says it has super space invaders 91
    and it doesnt.

Oops, I should have clarified. Puzzle Bobble 2 / Bust-a-Move Again was originally released for Taito's F3 Cybercore arcade system in 1995, since it was their new arcade hardware they were developing games for that instead of releasing them on the Neo-Geo. Then in 1999 they decide to let the same game be released on the Neo, 4 years later? Can't say I ever understand that. (and also, the Neo-Geo version's US release did not match Bust-a-Move Again, even though it was still called Bust-a-Move they put the Bubble Bobble characters back in, etc)

i kinda figured this to be a us version..

It would've made sense to include both variations as it couldn't have taken up that much memory to include both. I always just kinda assumed that Taito was embarassed by the US version of Bust-a-Move Again which is why it never got included in home ports or the Neo-Geo version, but then it appears in Taito Legends 2? Baffling.

I was actually planning on doing a section for my website to better explain what happened with the US version of Bust-a-Move Again, but as usual, I'm lazy.

Truth be told though, I actually prefer Bust-a-Move Again to Puzzle Bobble 2 solely because the new music is AWESOME. Totally not kidding here. I can do without Bubble Bobble characters for better tunes. The voices in Puzzle Bobble 2's Vs. CPU mode annoy the fuck out of me anyway.

If I remember correctly about 1-2 years ago the rights to the bubble bobble and its characters were sold in an auction.

these collection discs are never perfect,
but the 2 taito ones are nice.
capcoms are pretty decent too... except
for sf games saying "now loading"
when its obviously not loading. (ps1 ports, not arcade)

i think the worst one ever is tecmo classics..
worst compilation ever. when it came out,
it was $39.99 for having the least amount
of titles than others, plus, it didnt have ninja gaiden..
i want that shitty arcade game..

id like to see a konami set..
but it would never happen.. too many licenses.. .

Not so baffling. The Taito Legends collections are just made by some people in Europe that likely have nothing to do with the majority of the games on the discs.
