    GAROU: Mark of the Wolves

    I just bought a loose cart from ECL a week ago. I received it in the mail and the first thing I noticed was the "void warranty" stick on the side. I opened the cart and found one board to have nothing but Toshiba chips, while the other had EPROM chips. The chips were labeled with a sticker, "253 EP1", "253 EP2", "253 EP3", "253 EP4." It basicly looked exactly like this but with the 4 EPROM chips. One of the EPROM chips had a black wire running from one IC leg to another. Could this be a repair of some sort or just a bootleg?

    $ unzip -l garou.zip

    So it's a legit cart? What about the EPROM chips? It looks like the ROM I have has those exact filenames. Oh, I see... So the English version is a little different to the Japenese version. My cart is green, not blue.

    Your Garou 's totally legit !

    There're 2 revisions of Garou : one with 4 EPs (for P1 to P4) & one with 2 PROMs (P1 & P2).

    There's the same thing about KoF'99 & Samurai Shodown III : one rev with 4 EPs & some rev with 2 PROMs.

    Hah I got my Garou from ECL too, that fuckin warranty BS sticker took so much effort to remove. Its like painted on the cart. I had to scrape it off w/ a piece of plastic (so I wouldn't scratch the cart). My cart is exactly the same as you described, and its totally legit.

    You shouldn't jump to the conclusion you have a boot just because there are EPROM's. N80G80, the other chips on the board you posted make it clear it is original, so it wouldn't matter if the EP's were there or not.

    Alec I didnt think it was a boot cause of the eproms it was the wire (jumper) that made me think it was a boot

    Oh. Don't worry about it. Lots of carts have a wire or two.

    hmm my new japanese MOTW looks just like the american MOTW in the first post...is that okay? it doesn't have the wire thingie or any eproms....it is not working correctly either, the 2nd player buttons are all mapped wrong and working incorrectly but the first player side is fine, the game boots up just fine too...oddly enough with all enlish text and the menu in the soft dip is all english as well.....any ideas?

    *side note, the cab works fine otherwise, i play fighting games in it all the time, no problems at all. (4 slot ded)*

    Games will play in whatever language the BIOS is, regardless of the region of the cart so that explains the english. You say the second player works in other games except MotW. I did a quick search and found the problem, see this thread here, specifically this post.

    I hope that helps.
