Rubbing Alcohol is decent but it doesn't remove tarnish/corrosion/oxidation. I think you notice the contacts not being clean more on MVS just for the simple fact there are more contact points and the slots aren't the best.

Contact Cleaner is great, Deoxit even better. I usually leave the Deoxit on for 2-3 minutes then wipe off with rubbing alcohol as it leaves a film which will attract dirt. I can wiggle my carts in the slots while powered on and they won't crash. I find if they aren't clean they will crash if done that way.

I use channelmaniac's method of the dishwasher. Remove socked eeproms and batteries, no soap, short rinse, no heat dry. Got my Slug 3 working and my Gaia Crusaders good as new.
