I'll start:

high that I don't like:

Ikaruga

I'll give it credit for bringing the genre to my attention again, but I can't put it up for a spin again.

low, that I love:

R-Type Final

sure there's slow down and the level design is so-so

what it lacks in those areas it makes up for in MASSIVE ship variety

it's really cool to see some of the creative weapons they came up for these ships

I somehow just don't gel with Dodonpachi, I can see it's qualities, it's damn pretty and very tightly designed, I enjoy trying the chaining and am alot more succesfull with scoring then I am with DOJ but it just refuses to grab me by the balls.

Alpha Mission II is widely regarded as a merely so so shooter but no matter how many times I boot it up I'm always having a good time with it. I can fully understand how people who 1CC a Cave shmup every three months quickly get bored with it though but as an older shmup fan with deteriorating skills I'd love to see more shooters like that.

Border Down is far from being considered a "low" game. It's one of the top DC games.

Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou (I HATE this one. The presentation makes me sick.)
Radiant Silver Gun (Over-hyped piece of shit IMO)
Ikaruga (Too technical to be fun. It's pretty, but it sucks to play)

Low I like:
Chaos Field (Yes, I said it. Don't bother telling me you hate it, I know most people do)

Honestly, it's perfectly understandable that Ikaruga and RS are quoted many times, as you don't have to play like a shmup to go through. Same apply for DOJ and Ibara, but only because of the insane difficulty IMO.

After that, it's a matter of personnal tastes. It shows that originality doesn't always pay.

High I don't like:
Battle Garegga - the first few times I played it I didn't think it was a a great game, but it didn't seem too bad. Then when I read about rank and suiciding, I was appalled. What a horrible, horrible, horrible game. (this goes for most of Raizing's shooters, really)
Ikaruga - too much to keep track of, just doesn't feel natural to me
DDP DOJ - too hard, no fun
Mushihime - thought it would be good, but I just can't get into it

Low I like:
Gigawing Generations - it's not that bad! Really!
Zed Blade - gets hated on a bit but I love it if for no other reason than the music.
Chimera Beast - yeah this probably doesn't count because it's an unreleased prototype and all, but nobody else realizes the brilliance of it

You don't necessarily have to suicide to get through the game. I never take care of the rank and always reach stage 5/6. I don't see why people just are reluctant with the rank stuff. Don't care. I don't and I have great fun with it, especially when you reach stage 3 boss with 5 lives ha ha. I managed to reach stage 5 in 1 life. So don't think suiciding is a priority.

My favorite shooter actually.

but you see, I didn't know about any of that stuff when I first played the game, and I still honestly wasn't impressed. I just don't see what the big deal is about it, Raizing shooters tend to leave a bad taste in my mouth. (I think the only one I sort of enjoyed was Shippu Mahou Daisukasen)

i just don't understand the POINT of ranking systems. seriously. why not just make a game with good level design/enemy patterns, and progressively up the difficulty.

i haven't seen any battle bakraid videos, but apparently top players will suicide over 50 times on a good run.

what's the point?

I have to play it on the hardest difficulty to fully enjoy it though

Sorry man, crappy shooter that copies Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun is better then the originals? I own Chaos Field and it's nothing but a cheap ripoff of the two above listed games. I'ts not a terrible game, but it doesn't even use the elements copied from the other games well or even as well as the originals IMO.

Chaos Field is just a bunch of boss battles, how is it copying RSG & Ikaruga?

If I really have to explain to you why Chaos Field ripped off these two games, maybe you need to go back and play them again, but hell, I got a few extra minutes to burn.

- Radiant Silvergun uses a "sword" to collect bullets and deflect certain bullets just like Chaos Field does.

- The ship design of Chaos Field holds a striking resemblence to Ikaruga's.

- Even some bullets patterns use the same type of circular patterns that Treasure shooters do.

It's just an average game, but hey, if you've got the time to waste on an average game instead of the real deal, then have at it my man. It seems you haven't even played that much of the other games to really know what your talking about, so hey, at least when you actually do go back and play them, there's a chance that maybe you'll like them.
