DAMN. Lighten up... I actually learned something !!
THUMBS UP for a good thread! (no,I am not being sarcastic)
And I am telling you right now..you would not want it to be a TRUTH day where people had to tell the truth. It would be the deadliest day of he year!!

This day is arguably the finest to showcase the idiocy of the lowest common denominator that populates this planet. It's the one day out of the year when people are actually encouraged to do what they do best the rest of the year - lie. In attempting to appease the desire for humor, these presentations are ill-conceived, poorly delivered, and downright trite. I wish that we could actually implement a worldwide Truth Day, but somehow I doubt that anyone would enjoy the notion of actually having to be sincere. oh_no

And this is not directed at Bobak. For some reason I think that he actually enjoys stirring the pot. I know I do.
There's a difference between a mere lie and a joke. Lies by themselves are frowned upon. Lies for the purpose of comedy (jokes) aren't. The intent is not to permanently fool anyone. It's not like people are using April Fools to convince you that someone died and then NEVER revealing that someone didn't die. Heck, I doubt people would even use it to joke about death at all.

When my friend convinced someone that he was going into the WWE, I hardly see how that can be frowned upon as an immoral lie. More like hilarious!

Around the Bay Area, I've heard some pretty outlandish "jokes" today, including one where call-in listeners were told they just won the ultimate "crib", realizing only later it was a real crib. Kind of reminded me of the "debut of protos" and sale thereof at the CGE. oh_no

Perhaps I am just dense. I don't really see the humor in trying to fool someone with a practical joke or a verbal farce. I find fault with the socially accepted norms of holiday behavior. It's like people pinching you when you don't wear green on St. Patrick's day. Last time I got pinched on campus, the guy learned the meaning of the word "armbar". But like I said, I'm dense. My idea of an April Fool's joke is walking into a bank with my .38 and demanding enough money to pay off my school loans. I'll let them be the ones to figure out if I'm serious enough to pull the trigger or if it's another joke.

haha those radio shows rule! I like the one where the guy won a 100 grand candy bar

You should just learn to chill out, eh? I can see getting pissed with being pinched, but radio call ins and this post aren't really harming anything

All right!

We are now close to a spam-free forum! I'm glad this place is becoming more 'on-topic' like it should be.

A pity we will be seeing the selling forums go though.... annoyed

You've been stewing on this for a while haven't you? wink If that's your idea of an April Fool's joke, then I think I know why you're a little, uh, confused by the whole idea of "fun".

And you've obviously never seen how much "fun" can be had with a .38 loco

Nah, I don't stew. I just tell it to people like it is. Telemarketer calls in and mispronounces my name, I tell him to give me his home phone number so I can call back and return the favor of harassing him. I am a little more forgiving to the female ones. If they find my request for a blowjob offensive, I find their request for my time and money equally offensive. :p

It still doesn't change the fact that April Fool's is a worthless day when you have even less trust in people that usually so. Like I said, it'd be nice to have a Truth Day, or hell maybe even a Truth Year. Would be nice to see what happened if everyone actually lived by the Bible instead of simply using it to pray that your team covers the spread on Sunday.

But yes, I did pull a joke of my own today. It involved a can of hot yogurt and my girlfriend's ass.

Well of course there are bad jokes and such, but that's always the case. As for truth day, I don't understand what that means. Could you explain it to me? Does that mean you'd get in trouble for being wrong? loco How exactly would it work? I thought people were supposed to be honest most of the time. If you're concerned about honesty in general then you shouldn't be complaining about this day. Telling jokes and dishonesty are far different. Also, telling harmful jokes is bad, of course. April Fools is supposed to be a day for harmless jokes as far as I know. Anyone doing differently is not following the rules and thus it's unfair to blame that on this day. Blame it on the idiots.

My initial reaction was WTF?!?! Then after reading rule #7 my heart sank especially when I read that the selling forums would be phased out. Then, I realized it is indeed April 1st. I proceeded to shake my fist at bobak's avatar. You actually got me good and made me temorarily upset/sad. Finally, in an instant I was overcome with laughter. Good job bobak you son of a bitch.

This shirt is too tight.

BTW in Catalonia the celebration of fools' day is the 27th of December.
