[EDITOR'S NOTE: For this first few years, we kept hearing this suggestion. Often times the people who didn't like it soon learned to love it. While calling it "venerable" would miss the spirit of the forum, the War Room is a fixture of the site that won't be going anywhere anytime soon.]

Destroy such an institution? I don't think it will happen. It's been brought up before several times. I think there are some people who just need for there to be a War Room. <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

He can currently be found posting as "Dark Lord Dragon" and god knows how many other fake names. Just look for really dumb stuff in the war room, with replies just minutes apart, and it's probobly by him.

If the SNK War Room is axed then the spam, flames, and garbage will flood over into the other forums. The War Room serves as a dam. To remove this dam would be detrimental to the quality of the other forums.

Well then why dont you tell in detail your ideal war room. What your want them to say and how its supposed to work according to you ok. Granted some folks in there are on the spam side i can agree with that.

All joking aside, I do believe that, contrary to my earlier opinions on such an "institution" as Bobak phrased it, the War Room does serve a purpose on this message board in that it's a modestly effective "idiocy/lameness sink" (think of a PC CPU "heat sink" in order to get the analogy). The War Room may promote a certain degree of bullshit posts, but I'd say that what crap it does manage to contain and/or sink away from the rest of the forums makes it a worthwhile and functional component of this community.

there is no need to axe the war room.a better way is to delete posts of people who keep talking shit things that make no sense! or if he insults someone strongly non-stop.the war room is also a funny place.juz go there and see it for yerselves!!

If you killed the war room then Krauser would have no where to post, and would probly leave. Since any dumb shit he posted in the other forums would just get deleted.

War room is like a breeding ground for idiots, it's like a stagnent bucket of water in your back yard, your just gonna get mosquitos and pests. The war room or flame room is an infinitly bad idea as it is. It breeds hate, fights ect. ect.

Why try to support that at all? Most BBS's don't have a war room/flame room. Most don't have a Neo Nazi forum either.

Yes axing the war room IS a good idea for your site shawn.

Its no use letting spam and flames build up(Its not like the flames are anyhting more than spam from what I just saw a couple secs ago) By allowing them in one forum I belive it will attract memebers who will not be constructive for the other forums.

Im not talking a huge nazi moderation but simply when something erupts into name calling delete it. If its a heated debate with some possible constructive purpose leave it in its respective forum.
Example:"Your a communist!""No Im not I just belive.." That kinda stuff you can leave as it has an actual point
Example 2"Your a cocksucker!" Should be deleted being nothing more than an insult.

I dont mean too tell you how too run your iste Shawn but if you ditched the war room what would you lose? Spammer? Not too much of a loss IMO.

The old excuse that you need the war room to stop it from overflowing into other forums is over.

UBB 6 has the private message option, and any flame wars can be handeled privatly that way. However you'd be surprised how fast flame wars die, when they aren't out in the open with spectators <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

I agree fully with this. A conflict or difference of opinion of any sort between memebers ought to be settled privately between them. Should they not be willing to get so "serious" about it, then what on earth makes the details worth posting on a message board? For such cases where e-mail resolutions fail, we do have an un-related topics forum which appropriates such content. After all, given the UBB format, the forums here could not easily get dominated by flame wars, compared to Yahoo! pathetic club format, for instance. As a rule I refrain from entering the War Room, though from 2 or 3 visits it's plainly obvious a)what it breeds, which has been mentioned and b)how useless the whole concept really is. Yelling at people by typing at them... I tried it once, a tad intensely, just to see what it was like; an experience which only re-inforced my current beliefs.

Honestly man, has this suggestion gone through, it will never go through.
Its part of the site.
Although it is indeed useless, as even I do not posat in therre much, hell when I do make a topic it gets spammed to the bottom instantly.
