Top of the casing, where it says Hori and Fighting Stick PS. All other parts are identical, apart from the workings of the buttons. A metal ball, now that would rock.

Sanwa type sticks all have a 'standard' type screw thread, so I bet it would be pretty easy to make up some custom ball tops.

Imagine, metal, glass, rubber even transparent with something embedded inside (like a razorblade). Now that would be worth having!

What a cool business idea, someone could make some money..... :mr_t:

I believe Sanwa makes transparent balls, an other member in another thread mentioned that Rod at HimuraGames sent him some transparent balltops.http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128863

Also you can get BallTop shafts for Happ sticks. http://www.groovygamegear.com/cgi/s...&categories=0029&&c=detail.htm&itemid=VBALL01

You can choose different types of Balltops

The version shaped like the Soul Caliber stick is the Hori Fighting Stick PS 2 released 2004.

There was one before the Fighting Stick 2 (for ps2) that had this shape(soul calibur esque), with metal top, switched buttons for ps1. That would be the Hori Real Arcade PS which is not technically a "Hori Fighting Stick". Not sure of the release date. I'm pretty sure it is very uncommon outside of japan.

cheers,

So let me just get this straight. Sanwa buttons will fit straight into this thing without no modification? I know that the hole needs to be made bigger to accomodate a Seimitsu stick, but I'm unsure about the buttons.

Thanx for the help BTW.

Question for owners of the hori stick, what kinda restrictor gate does it use? Square or octagon? Round would be even better....

So is it easy to mod this with real Sanwa sticks/buttons? Lot of soldering needed?

Square restrictor.

Buttons will just pop in (30mm). If you have one that already has switches you will need to desolder the switches from the board, in the case of non-microswitch buttons, just unscrew the board beneath and pop the buttons out with a flat screwdriver. Then you can solder to new switches as usual.

As far as replacing the stick? I dunno, anyone here tried it?

I'm going to have to replace my non-microswitch buttons (or clean them really well) I think some kid spilled kool-aid in my controller before I got it. :oh_no:

cheers,

*edit* - I've been looking at sanwa and seimitsu sticks, the screw layout looks identical, just order it without a mounting plate, or remove the mounting plate. Joe musashi might have mentioned something about the stick hole being too small earlier in the thread? Drill will quickly remedy that.

If your going to put a Sanwa stick into a PS Hori stick, use a Hori stick with the metal plate. That way you can remove the metal plate and hide the screws underneath it. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ben_krismonte@sbcglobal.net/detail?.dir=/bd55&.dnm=94ba.jpg&.src=ph
Unless someone can figure it out, Sanwa sticks do not line up with the stock Hori sticks. Shave the mounts underneath the Stock Hori stick and drill your own holes. Also use flat head screws so it doesn't obstruct with the metal plate when you put it back.

One more thing, yes Sanwa buttons fit perfectly into Hori sticks. Use the snap-in type, because the screw-in type are a pain in the butt. The threads are too close together and there hard to tighten.

Woah, that looks really nice. Too bad I can't solder for shit myself....

I know this is an old thread, but I recently bought one the HSS-007 from Japan. I noticed it has some differences to these links

There are quite a few differences. There is only one PCB. The turbo/start board is brown and just has some wired connections to the main pcb. The switches appear to be real or imitation seimitsu. Their contacts are soldered directly to the pcb. To remove the switch would require desoldering the pcb from what I can tell. I can't confirm they are microswitched as I don't know what a non-microswitched switch looks like. The last bit is that cord appears to be a genuine japanese sega saturn cord ripped from a japanese controller. You can easily spot this version by the grey cord and genuine SEGA printed on plug like this: http://segaretro.org/images/archive/e/e8/20140826155247!Saturn_HSS-0101-1.png

Has anyone seen this one before? It's awesome for shmups. The short throw is great too.

Yeah I've never seen one with that PCB layout.

I also feel like I should publicly apologize for my quality of work in that racketboy thread. Shrink tube is your friend, it wasn't my friend at the time :lolz:
