I heard through the grapevine the Chevrolet Volt will cost $40,000.

FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS.

I still don't think much of hybrids, but I may be proven wrong in the marketplace. The rationale some people have of alleviating a $300/month fuel bill with a $400/month new car payment doesn't make sense mathematically. We engineers love efficiency but not at the expense of economics.

I've had fleeting thoughts of selling my car, but the math doesn't work.

How the fuck is it going to cost 40,000????

It's an electric car with a small generator....

Chevy is really screwing the pooch on this one....

Toyota should just beat them to the punch and put out a Plug in Hybrid....

Seriously?

Down here, we pay the following prices:

2.45 USD per Gallon, for 87 RON
2.90 USD per Gallon, for 95 RON
3.40 USD per Gallon, for 100 RON
2.19 USD per Gallon, for Diesel

... and prices have been going up lately as well... 2 weeks ago, all these were 10% cheaper

But that is still (almost) twice the sticker price of a Prius.

And the prius has an actual engine in it.

how much over sticker is the prius going for again? how long is the waiting list?

Not 100%.

And the prius will settle out to it's sticker sooner or later.

But you can't sticker a new model at twice that of a competitor. Especially considering that GM likes to start low and load you up with "options".

the prius is a hybrid though.

the volt is a totally electric vehicle. the gas engine only charges the battery, its not connected to the wheels mechanically.

i dont really see the volt as direct competition with the prius. its more like a 4 door tesla roadster.

a hybrid malibu or something would be more of a competitor with the prius.

i just looked it up and there is a hybrid malibu. it gets a whopping 2mpg more than the regular one. what the hell is that?

anyone know if the 3 door aveo (wave, kalos, whatever) was ever realesed here or in canada?

i've seen one. but it could be mexican. as it wasn't badged as a chevy. it was badged as an opel. and it was still the tiny 3 door you speak of. they might have driven it up from mexico though so it's possible it never came sateside.

?

I understand the difference...

I thought the volt was going to be more of a base model.

Motorcycle license, I imagine.

Yes, you will need your Cycle endorsement for this vehicle. I just picked up this scooter in March due to the rising gas prices. It's definitely fun to drive and saves a ton on gas spending...

i just finished a rant on aftermarket camaro hoods if anyone cares to take a look:
http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread.php?p=860355

i've been looking for something different than the stock one, but the only other one i like is the ss, and i dont want to have an ss hood on a v6 that currently cant back it up, so to speak.

i think ill stick with stock till i do something with the engine.

People who ride scooters and people who ride motorcycles are different types of people.

People who ride scooters tend not to have as much experience or are intimidated of motorcycles. And also depends on usage. I could understand using a scooter if you are an urbanite.
