Samurai Shodown 3 AES Blood Code

Hey guys, like the topic says, it has to do with the blood code in SS3. How in the world do you get it to work. I know its ABCD on the option selection, but I've only got it to work about 3 times out of the many years I've owned the game. Am I doing something wrong? My AES has the debug mod, yadda yadda, but even if you change the setting to japanese before the game boots (like you can with the KOF games) it doesnt change censorship settings. Any help?
