some hate it, i think it's awesome (now), obviously it wasn't worth the retail when it came out, but i got mine for 35 sealed.

some real kickass games on the system, finally giving genesis the much needed 32,000 color upgrade (which sega cd should have had....).

standouts on the system include Blackthorne, which walks all over the snes version, cause it has the actual cg style graphics the pc version has. Of course Mortal Kombat 2. T-Mek is quite good, for people who remember the coinop, only home version, lots of slow down, but it's still fun despite. Tempo is a great platformer, love the graphics, even if the games a bit strange at times, since the levels get real confusing. Knuckles Chaotix is quite good, some hate it for the gameplay. Would have liked to see a "Sonic 4" on the system though. Of course you can't forget Virtua Fighter, and Virtua Racing, great ports.

believe it or not, i have nearly every game for the 32x. i guess i like it more for the fact that it had a ton of potential than a ton of good games. although, there were some gems on the system, such as perfect sega classic arcade ports (space harrier, afterburner, etc.) and the best versions of blackthorne and mortal kombat II. i also had a lot of fun with doom, star wars arcade, and virtua racing deluxe.

kolibri had some great graphics but i wished it actually decided whether it wanted to be a shooter or an adventure (i use that term loosely) game, instead of being a little bit inbetween.

spiderman: web of fire was a decent title which i enjoyed a lot. being a straight up action game was a good route for it. i'm glad i didn't pay the ludicrous fetching price for it, though.

I love the 32X, the first time I saw DOOM on it, I was impressed.

Have you played Space Harrier on 32X? Most amazing port I have ever seen!

Of course, Mortal Kombat 2 is sweet as hell on 32X, finally everything from the arcade was perfected on a home port

my other personal favorites on 32X were Knuckles Chaotix, Primal Rage (Hey, this was a better port compared to SNES and Genesis), Cosmic Carnage, and the only reason to have a 32X around, is Virtua Fighter...still bugs me out how in the world did they fit it all in one cart...

I used to have a 32X. Doom was the main reason I bought it. At the time, we didn't have a PC good enough to run it, so this was the first way I was able to play it. I also loved Virtua Fighter on it. MK2 and NBA Jam were good too, but I felt like they were just slightly better versions than the Genesis. I never played Star Wars Arcade but kinda wish I would have.

Star Wars Arcade isn't that great.... The graphics are nice, but the frame rate is terrible. Half the time, I don't even know what the hell is going on with that slide show....

Shadow Squadron is sooooo much nicer than SWA. It is what SW should be like. Awesome shooter, buttery smooth frame rates to boot too.

Shadow Squadron is REALLY good, it reminds me of the genesis starfox, it's definetly how the star wars arcade port should have been done, since the graphics are better and there's almost no slowdown. i still like SWA tho, i loved the music from the coinop.

I had one with almost all of the games and I had mostly mixed reactions to it.

Doom was good (though it desperately needed a save feature). Blackthorne was decent, as was Virtua Racing Deluxe.

The World Series Baseball that came out for it was horribly flawed...the only upgrade being enhanced color---there were bugs that caused saving problems and it had a tendency to lock up on occassion.

I didn't necessarily feel it was worth the $99 I paid for it (my 32X came bundled with DOOM) back then, and even today.

The 32X had some really great games. Knuckles Chaotix is one of my favorite Sonic titles (even though it lacks Sonic and Tails). The enviroments and soundtrack are great. Even the stage designs were done really well and promoted a great sense of speed. I love nearly everything about that game. The ring attachment brought it down a bit, but I heard there was a code to get rid of that. How the game would play without it I don't know, since some parts of stages required it. I enjoyed the idea of having your partner do stuff such as picking them up and tossing them at enemies or telling them to stay somewhere to get switches. I didn't like the fact that I was ALWAYS stuck to them however. But not a big deal and I don't let it bring down a great title.

I remember that Konami was working on a Castlevania for the 32X though no screens ever surfaced, it's a shamed it got canned.

From what I remember, Doom was only like 17 levels. You could only get the BFG with the "happy ammo code" and the game had bugs. I remember once it even locked up on me.

yeah and it wasn't full screen either. actually i think the best cart version of doom is on the atari jag.

and i think the castlevania game MIGHT have been an upgraded bloodlines port, just like most of the other genesis to 32x ports (nba jam, wwf etc), which had slight upgrades in colors and graphics, real basic stuff. but if it was a new game, it's a shame.

Much to my great gain I never wasted my time with the SEGA SUPER 32X add-on console. I just never "FELT" it, and not much to my surprise at the time, the SEGA SATURN was out not too much later and truly a force to behold. The Super 32X had a few good games I did like, but it was one of SEGA's stunts that had me fuming.

Don't forget (if I remember correctly, heh), that 32X doom doesn't show the behinds of any monsters.... Apparently, monsters will always be facing you (or maybe sideways), save space.

Atari Jaguar is the definitive home cart version of this game. You can even network.

I still have a copy of the SNES version of Doom. Maybe the worst cart version of Doom. The main reason I got it was to play it on the X-Band network for SNES. It was my first deathmatch gaming experience:D

Doom for 32x was rushed to meet the deadline of christmas 94. shame really... the WORSE version of doom however was on 3do. I am not joking when I say full screen the game ran 12 fps normal and 5 fps in combat. 32x at least had a decent frame rate.

I agree the DOOM on Jag was great, which was actually ported to the GBA a while back.

Until I got a hold of the PSX verison, that has the best of Ultimate DOOM and Doom 2, that game was the shit when connected. We used to freak out whenever the CYBERDEMON was on the loose.

oh god, i got to play 3do doom, to even get a playable framerate, you had to crop the screen smaller than the 32X version was cropped! and even then it was stuttery as hell. didn't most 3do games stream crap off the cd cause the memory sucked? i guess that's why doom sucked

yeah, shittest conversion job either.

However the game did have good music (the old midi's remixed to full cd .wav's) so i think maybe the console was too busy playing this music to have enough speed left to play the bloody game :D

Also a neat fact for you, the jaguar version of doom was the only console version ID did themselves... goes to show eh?

Yeah, 32X is a nice little piece of hardware. I have almost all of the games that came out for it (missing about 5), just wish more games came out for it.

My favorites:
36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples
After Burner
Blackthorne
Doom
Knuckles Chaotix - Interesting twist on the Sonic franchise, good presentation, good music.
Kolibri - Very original shooter. You're a hummingbird, nuff said.
Mortal Kombat II
NBA Jam T.E.
Shadow Squadron - Very nice 3D space shooter. Gives you much more freedom than Star Wars.
Space Harrier - Classic shooter.
Tempo - Stylish 2D platformer.
Virtua Fighter
Virtua Racing Deluxe - Best home version of Virtua Racing, better than the Saturn version.
