Got Psyvariar 2 today and here is my review :

Graphics : 8/10
Great visuals very crisp and clean , some of the lighting effects especially the explosions are miraculous , the bullet effects are not amazing probably comparable to Mars Matrix but they serve their purpose .

Control : 10/10
Flawless very smooth and responsive , there are only 2 buttons you have to use so its also very simple . I almost wish there were another function that could take advantage of at least on of the other 4 remaining buttons .

Difficulty : 4/10
Way too easy This game is really meant for score whores . The game only has 5 very short levels It took me less than a hour of playing to finish the game .

Music : 10/10
The score for this game is truly amazing , the best way I can describe it is classical synth techno its very refreshing and smooth and very fitting and goes harmoniously with the game, I will definately buy the soundtrack for this game ,if it exists .

System Description :

Well This game is a simple shooting game with one goal in mind ....racking up points . The way you rack up points in this shooter is by "BUZZING" now to buzz all you have to do is simply come as close to bullets as you possibly can without actually getting hit . this racks up points and makes your mecha gain levels ...... one of the key elements to this game is making your mecha spin ...I fopund that there are 2 ways to accomplish this ......(1) you can move the control pad from left to right or right to left very quickly or (2) you can simply rotate the control pad , this is the way I prefer ....I find it easier on the fingers once you start the mecha spinning it will continue to spin as long as you keep it moving . "spinning" concentrates your firepower to the middle and makes it more powerful , and spinning also lets you become temproarly in invincible for about one second while you level up . ...leveling up is shown by lightning flashing on the screen , and your mecha has a temporary glow around it ......I have found that this one second glow is offensive to enemies when it touches them , and sometimes destroys bigger enemiesby just simply touching them . The bosses are really easy ...for some reason I found the level 4 boss to be the most difficult , probably because I couldnt get away from the fact that they ripped off the queensryche symbol to create this boss :buttrock:

all in all it was a good game , I was not amazed , nor enormously impressed . I definately reccomend all of the hardcore shooter fans to get it , because its is well put together , and definately is a great challenge for the people who like the score aspect of gaming .

Overall rating 7.5

Nice review. Despite the short length of the game I am still going to buy it up soon. I'd love to have this game in my collection.

Me too

Tomorrow (My B-day) I will be picking up my copy from JPN video games.

If only I can muster the scratch to buy a JPN PS2- I want the rest of the new shooter lot so bad...

Any reason I should wait for the PS2 version?

Well I assume that the Dreamcast version will be better since Psyvariar 2 is a Naomi game , and the Dreamcast is basically a Naomi home system . only difference would be the slight loading that the Dreamcast has .

So its absolutely the same game on both the Dreamcast and PS2, right?. Theres no difference aside from the load time on the DC?

Well taking older Naomi conversions in mind ...EXC: Guilty Gear X
The Dreamcast version had almost no loading ...but the PS2 version had a black now loading screen ...so I would say I would bet on the Dreamcast version having less loading .

Keep in mind:

Shikigami no shiro 2 port on the PS2 looks like shit and has lots of problems...

We've yet to see the DC port...but I assume it'll be prettier since its closer to its naomi original creation.

Thats why Dreamcast is the shniggity , because of all of the arcade goodness built inside of that pretty little white box .

I can go on forever how Dreamcast is one of the best systems ever made , proof is the fact that some arcade vendors (albeit illegal) put Dreamcast consoles inside arcade machines to save loads of money on Naomi hard and soft .

Dreamcast is PIMP !

What are these problems you speak of?
