Anybody got a PPU that they are willing to sell?
The NES is my last console that I want to get RGB out, but I cant ever seem to find the correct PPU.

I posted over on the KLOV.com forums a WTB thread. I asked for a broken Playchoice 10 board that had a good PPU. I'd just hat to cannibalize a working board.

Did you RGB mod an SNES? If so how. I read about some cables RGB scart cables, some have caps in them, some have different values, some don't at all. It's hard to nail down information on that. I have a US NTSC SNES.

So If I get one of those RGB Scart cables that lists as working for US NTSC console, I should be able to pull RGB and Sync off it to an arcade monitor or component encoder?

I'd be using a JROK, so no SCART connector on it, I should be able to wire it directly from the scart plug right?

Cool, I'll move onto that when I get this RGB NES working. I ordered an ultimarc RGB amp, I'll post the results when that shows up.

Let me know if you would like the exact European transistors mentioned in the guide. Would be handy to rule them out as being the problem.

However, that pic looks exactly like a screenshot I saw of someone who had wired the transistor incorrectly. Collector and emitter was swapped.

There aren't any transistors involved at this point. It was direct from PPU to monitor

Yeah, I use the ultimarc for the nes.

Works great.

But don't run the sync through it!

I got my Ultimarc RGB amp and hooked it up. I'm still not getting any video. I really need some help with this.

Interesting, so should I not be taking sync off the yellow video out jack? Your pictures lead me to think I shouldn't be.

Also where on the ultimarc do you connect the rgb input? Here's where I put em.

Well, try tapping sync from the yellow video out jack first, if that does not work, then get a sync cleaner and tap right into the PPU. Tapping sync from the yellow video out jack will work with some monitors, but not others.

You have the correct input pins circled on the Ultimarc RGB amp - Its VGA pins 1,2,3
I had grounding issues with the Ultimarc RGB amps, that is why I have like 3 grounds hooked up in the pics.

Which pin on the ppu is sync? It's ok if it's connected through the board right?

Woohoo, got it. What it ended up being was the way I was testing it. I wasn't drawing the +5v and GND from the NES itself to power my RGB amp and Sync Cleaner. Once I did that and tied both of them into those +5v and GND, the magic happened. Then I hooked it up to my RGB to YUV converter and it's all good. I see a couple of graphical glitches so I'll have to add the cap.

Thanks for the help guys.

Wow, what an improvement..

For future reference, composite video should not be used as sync. I'm aware theres a few systems that do unfortunately use this method, and it causes nothing but problems on modern TV's.

Well with this mod, the composite is replaced by sync. So the RCA jack's just another place to tap it.

Looking to sell my RGB modded NES.

No RGB amp or YUV converter, you'd have to get your own.
