Vice got a new MAX2 (called, amusingly enough, "Cannibal Corpse"), which is very much like Freeman's counter DM, only much more... well, gross. Her old MAX2, Overkill, is now an air grab DM.

Mature has a new B version whiplash throw, which angles straight out instead of slightly down. If it hits, it pulls the opponent closer.

Kensou, Takuma and Robert have EX versions.

Geese also has a Nightmare Geese mode, which is so overpowered that it's genuinely funny to watch in action. His old-style Raging Dead End, where he throws a whole shitload of Shippuukens on a prone opponent, has been renamed and is now an SDM-only move. The SDM Raging Storm is actually more of an altered Deadly Rave which is shorter and finishes with the big, wide red cage. The new MAX2 is now entitled the Raging Dead End, and causes his hands to blaze with blue energy. This affects his counters. If he lands a successful counter, then it goes into full effect, and he stuns the opponent, shoulders down the top of his gi or whatnot, then launches a huge flurry of Reppukens, which build into a half-screen-filling wave of energy, then caps it off with the Deadly Rave finisher, laden with a boatload of special effects. He can also throw a Shippuuken or Double Shippuuken twice per jump. The Jaeiken is the blazing grab version. It's utterly ridiculous, and extremely funny to watch.

K' has a brand-new followup to the Ein Trigger, which is a simple flaming/flying kick.

Benimaru finally has that followup to the Benimaru Koreda. And his MAX2 seems to be a snarky reference to the bug in CvS1 when he'd get hit out of his Raijinken and the ball of electricity would stick around for awhile, still doing damage. Done with any of the four buttons, you choose where you want the ball to appear (head/feet, front/back). No time limit on it, but it seems to hit a specific number of times.

Orochi Chris' qcfx2+P DM is reworked. He no longer travels with the orb of fire, but instead launches it, where it travels slowly.

Unlike the original 2002, MAX2s seem to actually serve some purpose, instead of just being there as a novelty. The new ones are pretty entertaining, for the most part.

And I think that's it for updates/observations. No one seems to be particularly interested in the game but me. Too bad. There's a lot of love and care put into this one.

No no i've been reading. My first ppost here but actually i've been here reading for years, but i usually write on neogeofans.fr

Even got that KOF 2003 aes trough this site when it was released.

I got the game yesterday and it's really a totally new game, it sure plays like 2002 but with all the new stuff, it doesn't feel like it at all now ^^

What i've noiced : Krizalid' AI plays exaclty like in KOF 99 Evolution on my DC,
but it's now easier to beat him because the Power gauge keep charged between the rounds and the backflip is now possible, as well as the emergency escape.

Remember in KOF 99, you flipped back and then forth, right into his attacks...

Zero on the other and has never been this hard, the strikers won't be of hep anymore...

Athena's final attack in her new super final DM (call it whatever you want) : The last costume she wears ios the godess cloth from the St Seiya last Manga, in which athena also fights from within a bubble - In case you're not sure, another reference has been made : the Athena statue in the coliseum stage, which actually exists in Athens (the statue not the colisuem, it's in rome), but obviousely this is a reference to the coliseum in which the St Seiya story starts. Anyway, this whole Athena story finally answers a question i had for years : was SNK's athena inspired by St Seiya's ? Yes it was...

My reference may seem very obscure for non anime fans, keep in Mind that St Seiya is the 2nd most popular anime ever after Dragon Ball and before NAruto. EVERYONE in France , Italy and Spain is familiar with the show, that started in 1986 and 88 on TV, right before Athena started to appear in SNK games.

@Deuce or edgar:
Does the Mai glitch still work against Original Zero (2k version)?
I know you can clear KOF 2k by putting Mai last up against Zero and doing absolutely nothing during that round once Zero faces Mai. He just stands there until time-over.

Well i've yet to try this...

Howver, something weird happened : i was playin in VS mode (VS CPu, my god it took them like 15 years to finally do this...) and the game suddenly stopped with a dark green screen... Kind of reminded me of what heppens if you remove your cartdridge from the Neo Geo ^^

Weird, I never ran into that (but then, I'm not a Mai user). But no, I have not fought CPU Clone Zero. There seems to be a system that the game uses to determine which boss you fight. I wound up running into Krizalid, who is still, yes, a pain in the ass.

I've only played once so far, but came up against Krizalid on the default difficulty and he was a piece of cake.

As i said before it was more difficult in KOF 99 because of the games restriction (power gauge back to zero between rounds and the stupid AB back jump).

I fought Krizalid 4x and Clone Zero twice. But in the end it took me an hour and XXXX credits to beat stupid C Zero and i had to play like an ass. No strikers to help you...

I think the final Boss you fight has a relation with what you do when you fight the single challenger who appears after the first 3 teams. In KOF 2003, using a SDM to finish Kyo was the key to fight Chizuru and Mukai...

So i guess you fight Krizalid if you beat the guy with a normal move, C Zero with a DM, and, but i've yet to try this, Igniz with a MAX SDM. That would leave Rugal to the ones who manage to finish the CPU using the MAX2.

That's just a theory based on what happened when i played but that seems to make sense so far.

Deuce, do you know how to do Ryo's HSDM? I can do it, but there's some kind of follow up which is :qcf: x 2 then LP then HP, but I can't read the Japanese so I don't know what the fuck is supposed to happen.

You ripped some sounds from this game? Is the game using NGX or ADX sound technology? I know there's a ADX ripper, but if you've got something to get NGX or other NG PS2 game music rips, a software name would be greatly appreciated:)

Also, is the Neo-Geo mode a direct port of the AES/MVS version of the game with K'9999? Pretty let down Tetsuo's not in UM-オレの力なのか?

I didn't mind Tetsuo all that much, but then, I'm not sorry to see him replaced, either. Nameless is a more engaging visual design. But yeah, Neogeo mode is the standard 2002, original roster, music, stages, etc.

PSound rips the music from most SNKP PS2 games pretty readily, I've found. For those few that it doesn't, there's MFAudio.

I still haven't decided if i am getting this game yet. I got Kof 2002 on the Ps2 & Dreamcast. so is this really really good? I am trying to make a choice to get it this week or get kof 98 & 00 on the Aes. so should i leave the Aes Carts and try it out or not?

Its a hard choice as i have been checking out vid clips, but i love my AES collecting addiction :loco:

I just bought this. Won't know if it's really good or not until I get someone over here to play two players.

If you hit noegeo mode it goes into the neogeo cart mode and it seems just like the MVS which is pretty rad.

The new levels are kinda bleh, but the gameplay seems right on.

Kof 2k2 was one of my favorites, good to see it enhanced on the ps2. Is it as good as the MVS version? Don't know yet.

edit- I posted this in a really drunk state. I don't remember even posting it. I'll try to get some more 2k2 action in this week.

I just got KOF02UM I notice it does not have a stage select in vs. I am hoping maybe it is something to unlock. I mostly play in vs mode so it would be nice if it had one like in 98UM. Also it would be nice to know how it chooses what stage you are on when you mix up the teams.

One of the things that always bothered me was the lack of a stage select in vs on almost all SNK fighters. To me this is inexcusable :oh_no:
