1 -- SMACKDOWN ELIMINATION CHAMBER MATCH -- Edge defends WWE Title

Hot opening with Hardy and Edge exchanging control while the four big men watched. Hardy hit the Twist of Fate on 2:00, but missed with the Swanton Bomb. Edge tried to follow with a spear, but Hardy surprised him with a sweet roll-up counter for the pin. Crowd popped for the surprise early pin. Edge was shocked - shocked! - and tried to figure out what in the world happened. Hunter laughed through his pod. Show flashed his pearly whites in happiness. Edge pulled his hair out trying to make sense of the situation, but he eventually left the Chamber with knowledge there would be a new champ. No Vickie to make the save.

At the first 5:00 interval, Kozlov came out and went right after Hardy.

UPDATE (still in progress...)

Edge tried to follow with a spear, but Hardy surprised him with a sweet inside cradle for the pin.

And went after him some more. Hardy needed some help, as Kozlov beat him down before settling into a ground-based waistlock. Hardy finally had some offense just before the 5:00 interval ended with Big Show coming out. Kozlov and Show started working over Hardy by circling around the lifeless carcass, then Hardy fought back on Show until walking into a headbutt. Very slow action until Kozlov suddenly charged Show and gave him a big headbutt to the gut. Show was not pleased, so he slowly got up and shoved Kozlov down. Two big men battled center ring until Show missed with a corner splash.

At 15:00, our next participant was Triple H. Hunter went after Kozlov, then turned his attention to Show with a big Double A spinebuster. Hunter then pulled the top rope down on Kozlov, who ate the chain inside the Chamber. Hunter wanted the Pedigree on Kozlov, but Show frying-pan-like chopped Hunter back into the ring. Taker started banging around on his Pod itching for his entry into this. More slow-it-down action while fans chanted for Taker. Show wanted a chokeslam on Hunter, but Hunter slipped out and walked into a big press slam. Standing on the chain area outside of the ring, Show smashed Hunter into the chamber wall, then threw Hardy onto Hunter. Show tried a huge double splash, but they moved and Show ate chain.

Back in the ring, Hardy and Hunter doubled up on Kozlov for a back body drop before Hardy hit the Whisper in the Wind on Hunter. Finally, Taker got his entry and went right after Show before turning his attention to Kozlov for snake eyes and the big boot. A little awkward, as are most things with Kozlov. Taker then wanted a double chokeslam on Hunter and Hardy, but Show clubbed him in the back from behind. Show and Taker moved to the Chamber area outside of the ring and Taker landed a nice DDT on the steel. Back in the ring, Taker went after Kozlov and gave him the Last Ride powerbomb off the top rope for a pin. KOZLOV ELIMINATED AT 23:00.

Show then scooped up Taker and gave him a big chokeslam before back body dropping Hunter over the top rope onto the steel area. Show wanted Hardy, but Hardy climbed on top of Taker's former Pod. Show crotched him, though, then Show climbed up the Pod to start clubbing Hardy with big right hands. Taker then joined them on top of the Pod. Taker turned it into a sweet superplex from the top turnbuckle that shook the ring when Show hit the mat. Meanwhile, Hardy balanced himself on top of the Pod as Hunter hit the Pedigree on Show. Crowd came to its feet as Hardy came to his feet. Hardy paused, then nailed a Swanton Bomb right on Show's stomach. Hardy rolled out of the way, then Hunter draped an arm over Show for the pin. BIG SHOW ELIMINATED at 26:15.

Hunter, Taker, and Hardy are your final three. Taker wanted Old School on Hardy, but Hunter crotched Taker hard across the top rope. Taker really sold that as all three men recovered on the mat. Hardy then threw himself at Hunter before Taker scooped him up for a big Tombstone Piledriver. He covered Hardy for the pin. HARDY ELIMINATED at 28:40. So, we're down to Taker vs. Hunter to determine the next WWE champion. Hunter guaranteed victory on Smackdown. Let's see how it plays out.

Conclusion of match:

Each man took control in the one-on-one exchange, then Hunter uncharacteristically went up top and walked into a chokeslam that Taker delivered with authority. Taker made the cover, but Hunter kicked out just before three. Ross, who has been awesome calling this to this point, said he would have bet his black hat on a pin for Taker there. Hunter avoided Snake Eyes, then hit a spinebuster at 32:00 that led to a close nearfall. Hunter and Taker battled to the steel area on the other side of the ring, then Taker did the spot of flipping Hunter over the top rope into a Tombstone Piledriver. Looked like the win, but Hunter put his foot on the bottom rope just before three. Crowd popped thinking Taker won, then gasped when they saw it was a two count only.

Hunter hit the Pedigree at 34:00, but Taker kicked out just before three in another amazing nearfall. Crowd caught its breath as Taker and Hunter regrouped and went back to their feet in battle. Hunter and Taker exchanged control, then Hunter hit one more Pedigree in center ring. Both men, exhausted, were on the mat, then Hunter rolled on top of Taker and made the cover for the win to re-capture the WWE Title for a thirteenth time. Afterward, Taker and Hunter slowly reached their feet. Taker looked back into the ring as Hunter met his gaze, then they locked eyes once again. Poignant moment between two of WWE's top stars. Taker left, then Hunter went to his knees and gazed into the WWE Title belt.

WINNER: Triple H at 36:00 to capture the WWE Title. What a match. Very slow ten minutes in there post-Edge pinfall, but what an amazing 15 minutes to close the match. The action was spread out so well with amazing nearfalls and one heck of a one-on-one battle between Hunter and Taker to close the match. Hunter doesn't guarantee victory on TV unless he's winning, so you knew it was coming. Excellent match. (****1/2)

2 -- RANDY ORTON vs. SHANE MCMAHON -- No Holds Barred match

Anything goes tonight. Shane came out first looking very determined to take apart Orton. The match opened with Shane bobbing and weaving to frustrate Orton, then Shane knocked Orton to the floor. Huge puddle of oil and sweat on the floor after Orton crashed to the padding. Shane tried to follow, but Orton smashed him back-first into the ring apron. Back in the ring, Orton took off the turnbuckle padding and went back to work on Shane. Orton slowly walked around the ring teasing that Shane was done, then he approached Shane, who suddenly busted out a Kendo stick to crack Orton in the face.

At 5:00, Shane repeatedly blasted Orton with the stick. Orton winced with every blow to the sternum, then Orton regrouped on the outside. Shane followed out and hit a running clothesline. You knew this was coming. Shane cleared the Smackdown announce table, then grabbed a TV monitor and cracked it over Orton's forehead. Point of the monitor caught Orton around the right temple and Orton came up bleeding. Didn't catch Orton leaning down to blade there, so it looked hardway. Could be wrong, though. Shane then went up top for a splash on Orton, but DiBiase and Cody Rhodes jumped into the ring. Cody then retrieved a chair to smash Shane, but Shane moved and DiBiase accidentally took the chair to the back. Cut back to Stephanie watching on a backstage monitor.

At 8:00, Shane grabbed a trashcan and placed it over Cody in the corner. Shane wanted to go coast-to-coast on Cody after delivering it on DiBiase on Raw. Shane measured Cody, then went all the way across the ring in mid-air with a dropkick square in the face. Meanwhile, Orton was bleeding heavily while still on the Smackdown table. Shane, having SuperShaned on Cody and DiBiase, went back up top for the dive on Orton. Orton was playing opossum, though, and Shane ate the table, then the floor when Orton moved. Orton went back into the ring and told DiBiase to get Cody out of here to make sure he's okay. Just do it man!

At 11:00, Shane slowly returned to the ring and took the horizontal DDT off the middle rope. Crowd was quiet as Orton beat down on Shane after setting up a table in the corner of the ring. Orton then took McMahon up top for a Cowboy Bob superplex and Orton connected right through the table. Very violent PPV so far tonight. Orton slowly made his way over to Shane for a cover, but SuperShane kicked out before three. Orton, frustrated, slammed Shane's head into a broken part of the table. Another cover, but Shane kicked out at 15:00.

Shane then went on the offensive and grabbed the chair Cody tried to use earlier. Shane bashed Orton across the stomach, body, and legs. Orton hobbled and cried out in pain, then he begged off Shane, who measured him for a direct chair blow. Camera cut away real quick, so it was hard to see if it was a direct blow to the head or upper shoulder area. In any event, Shane wanted one more smashing shot via The Punt, but Orton suddenly snapped to his feet and nailed the RKO for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Orton at 18:18. Sweet finish from Orton, who lulled Shane into a false sense of security before busting out the RKO. As expected, Shane beat the crap out of Orton because he's SuperShane, then Orton scored the eventual three count. Brutal, brutal match, as Orton's face was messed up pretty badly. The problem with this is that Shane raises the bar so high, but he only does this once a year, so he's not on the road traveling and doing this every night. The other wrestlers doing this 150 times per year would burn out and develop pain pill addiction every night trying to kill themselves for a crowd reaction or a storyline. Not fair to the rest of the roster for Shane to be allowed to do these type of matches to put himself over. (***)

3 -- ECW champion JACK SWAGGER vs. FINLAY (w/Hornswoggle)

Early on, a smattering of "We want Christian" chants. Todd Grisham acknowledged them, saying Christian returned to WWE on last week's ECW show to challenge the winner of tonight's match. It's going to be tough for Swagger and Finlay to follow an hour and a half of brutal, but competitive action with a slow-it-down ground-based match. MVP tonight is a Santino poster in the crowd featuring a take-off on the famous Barack Obama "HOPE" profile shot. Swagger dominated early, then Finlay made a comeback as Hornswoggle kept acting up. Hornswoggle then got on the apron for no apparent reason and Swagger bumped Finlay into Hornswoggle. Finlay then backed into Swagger, who hit the gutwrench Swagger powerbomb for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Swagger at 8:10 to retain the ECW Title. Very slow match that didn't move out of first gear. Unfortunately, they were following two brutal gimmick matches, so this was a popcorn match in the middle of the show. Swagger and Finlay didn't get a real fair shake. (*)

4 -- JBL vs. SHAWN MICHAELS -- JBL owns HBK if he wins

An initial lock-up led to JBL shoving Michaels into the corner to scream at him that "one mistake is all I need" to own Michaels. Lawler said a lot of people can relate to their boss bullying and brow-beating them. Michaels had enough of JBL's bullying, so he finally fought back against his employer for the first time for an early crowd reaction. JBL rolled to the outside to regroup, then tried to get HBK to use a chair on him, but HBK thought better of it and took the action back into the ring. Michaels slapped on the figure four leglock, but JBL grabbed the ropes for a break. Ref reprimanded him for nearly taking too long on a rope break. JBL then sent Michaels upside down in the corner and Michaels spilled to the floor where JBL rammed him into the ring apron.

At 8:35, JBL took Michaels up top for a superplex, but Michaels fought him off. He then wanted a top rope elbow smash, but JBL moved and Michaels ate the mat. JBL popped up to his feet, then nailed the Clothesline from Hell, but Michaels kicked out in time. JBL then went to one knee and talked trash to Michaels before landing yet another Clothesline from Hell. Michaels collapsed to the mat, then JBL stared down at Rebecca, who covered her face. Instead of making a pin, JBL rolled Michaels to the floor. Ref started a ten count, and Michaels got up at seven to make it back just before ten.

At 11:30, JBL chucked Michaels over the top rope once again. He then followed to the floor and started talking trash to Rebecca this time. Some fan shouted, "You piece of s---." Suddenly, Rebecca punched JBL to pop the crowd ringside and fire up Michaels, who took JBL back into the ring and started wailing on him. Michaels with a scoop slam, then he went up top and delivered an emphatic elbow smash. Michaels was out of control as he fired up the crowd, then he started tuning up the band. Michaels smashed JBL with Sweet Chin Music, JBL tipped over like a tree in the woods, then Michaels made the cover for the win to earn his freedom from JBL.

Post-match: Rebecca's mascara was running as she cried tears of joy. Michaels then slipped out of the ring and hugged his wife. He took her over the guardrail, then gave her a big kiss before walking up the ramp hand-in-hand. Michaels went down to his knees on stage and celebrated before they replayed the finish. Michaels and Rebecca embraced once again on stage before leaving.

WINNER: Michaels at 13:20. Pretty good match. Still difficult to follow the first hour and a half of brutality, but they told a really nice story with an effective use of Rebecca for a feel-good moment on the PPV. Now, we get legit Michaels on TV.

First update...

In-ring: WWE World Hvt. champion John Cena came to the ring first for the Raw Elimination Chamber main event. He popped a squat in his Pod, then Mike Knox came out second. Kane came out, then Kofi Kingston came out fourth. Suddenly, Edge stormed Kofi from behind and smashed him into the Chamber. Edge snapped and retrieved a chair before KO'ing Kofi with a chair shot to the back of the head. Edge suddenly jumped into Kofi's Pod and Rey Mysterio stormed ringside to check on his buddy. Medics came to ringside to check on Kofi as Rey went after Edge, but Edge hit in his Pod. Chris Jericho's music hit, then Jericho came out to face Rey to start things off. Lawler asked whether Edge is allowed to do this. Officials discussed it, then said we have a match to start, so they locked the Chamber and called for the opening bell.

5 -- RAW ELIMINATION CHAMBER MATCH

Rey and Jericho to start. Rey hit a flip-over dive onto Jericho on the steel area inside the Chamber, then back in the ring, Jericho avoided a corner dive and Rey crashed hard into Kane's pod. Sounded really nasty and ref Kiota reacted with a gut reaction of concern. Replay showed Rey hitting his head on the exterior of the Pod, but making a huge crashing noise with his hands. Rey sold a head injury, but recovered with a crazy huracanrana after climbing the Chamber walls. At 5:00, we get Kane as the third man in the ring. Kane approached Rey, but didn't do anything. Kinda froze. Apparently Kane wanted to dance, but then he decided to uppercut Rey.

Rey wanted the 619 on Jericho at 9:00, but Kane blocked with a chokeslam attempt on Rey. Only problem is that Rey countered the chokeslam into a drop toe hold for the 619. Jericho then hit the codebreaker on Kane. Rey took Jericho to the caging outside of the ring, then climbed to the very top of Kane's Pod. He came off the top with a big splash on Kane, then covered him for the pin. KANE ELIMINATED AT 9:43.

Next out in the match was Mike Knox, who went right after Rey with a big boot to the head. After some basic exchanges from the men in the ring, Knox found himself on the receiving end of a codebreaker from Jericho. Jericho then covered Knox for a pin to eliminate the bearded one. MIKE KNOX ELIMINATED AT 14:45. Down to Rey vs. Jericho right now.

Next out, the light settled on Edge, who entered the Chamber match by taking a right hand blow from Rey, who bashed Edge's head repeatedly into the Pod wall. Rey then hit a springboard splash on Edge, but Jericho popped Rey with a surprise clothesline. Jericho smiled to himself, very happy with that move on Rey.

Rey then hit a springboard splash on Edge, but Jericho popped Rey with a surprise clothesline. Jericho smiled to himself, very happy with that move on Rey. Edge then wanted a spear on Rey, but Rey moved. Jericho wanted the codebreaker on Edge, but Edge blocked. Rey tried the 619 on Edge, but Jericho cut Rey off again.

Rey and Jericho battled up top, then Edge followed to set up a Tower of Doom spot. Deal went down with Jericho hitting a sunset flip powerbomb on Edge as Edge gave Rey a German Suplex off the top. Crash-and-burn spot was met with medium reaction from the crowd, which has seen everything to this point and is waiting for Cena. They cut to a shot of Cena squatting down inside his Pod while in deep thought.

After the countdown, Cena was ready to be released. He exploded out of his Pod to a mixed reaction and went right after Edge, who Lawler said shouldn't be here anywhere. Cena with a suplex on Edge, then a fisherman buster on Jericho. He then set up Edge for the Five Knuckle Shuffle and delivered it after smiling to the crowd. He wanted the FU on Cena, but Jericho surprised Cena with the codebreaker at 22:00. Suddenly, Rey hit the 619 on Cena. What? And Edge speared Cena right in center ring. What? Edge then made the cover on Cena and scored a three count. What? Oh my. CENA ELIMINATED AT 22:25.

Edge came up shocked with himself for eliminating Cena, then everyone caught their breath as Cena rolled out of the ring. Lawler was shocked. Rey dropkicked Jericho and Edge to the middle rope and Rey caught Jericho with the 619. Jericho then tried the Walls of Jericho on Rey, but Rey countered with an inside cradle and he pinned Jericho for another elimination. JERICHO ELIMINATED AT 23:55.

Edge crouched into a natural corner, then he wanted the spear on Rey, but Rey moved and rolled up Edge from behind for a very close nearfall. Oh dear, there was Rey's "save face" nearfall. Rey then hit a springboard dive on Edge and scored another close call. Rey and Edge came to their feet and battled in center ring. Rey kicked Edge in the face before making another cover for a close two count. Rey hit a DDT at 26:45, then made another cover for a fourth straight nearfall. Rey went up top, but Edge kicked Rey square in the jaw to knock him off his perch.

The action moved to the steel area ringside and Rey hit another 619 on Edge. Cole said Edge is going to need 911 tonight. Rey tried to charge Edge on the steel area ringside, but Edge lifted him up in the air and chucked him clear into the exterior of one of the Pods. Sick. Back in the ring, Edge measured Rey for another spear. This time, he connected in center ring. Edge then made the cover and scored the pin for the win.

Cole was beside himself angered by this whole thing. So, Hunter switches to Raw with the WWE Title? Lawler posed the question of what happens now with Raw apparently not having a World champ anymore. Does C.M. Punk have a briefcase to cash in tomorrow night? Edge celebrated with possession of the World Title. So, does Orton get Edge or Hunter? Where does Cena go? Edge "posed" with the WrestleMania 25 banner hanging in the camera shot to close the show. He then kissed the belt inside the Chamber to close the show.

WINNER: EDGE at 29:50 to capture the World Hvt. Title. Not at the level of Smackdown's Chamber match because of the star power involved in the opener, but there were some great spots, even if Rey tried to pull a SuperShane throughout this match and virtually crash and burn to get crowd reactions. Shocking moments and Rey's four straight nearfalls kept the crowd guessing leading to Edge with the title victory. Great dose of action to legit set up questions for Raw tomorrow night. (***3/4)

So, Randy Orton has been fighting all the McMahon family the last few weeks, I smell a Steve Austin appearance at Wrestlmania 25 to destroy Orton and the Legacy guys. I mean, it certainly looks like it's being setup for something big like that.

I was out of the wrestling loop for a few months after the WB cancelled Smackdown, but now I found out it's on My Network TV on Friday nights, so I've been able to catch SD once again. So, since Edge and HHH both have the belts, doesn't that mean one of them has to go to Raw now? Will it be HHH since Stephanie is getting her ass whipped?

Sometimes I wish I had cable so I could watch Raw and TNA. I'd like to check out the hotties on both those shows. I've seen pictures of Angelina Love....Mmmmm, fucking delicious. Maryse is my favorite though.

WWE RAW Results: 2-16-09

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report).

The show started with a quiet arena. Lilian Garcia then introduced Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero to a chorus of boos. Vickie then introduced the new World Hvt. champion, Edge, who stole the belt from John Cena at No Way Out last night. Edge and Vickie then grasped hands and Edge wobbled onto stage before his pyro shot off. They entered the ring. Jerry Lawler confirmed that John Cena is no longer the World Hvt. champion despite knocking out Kofi Kingston last night to take his spot in the Raw Chamber.

Edge said Rated R stands for remarkable tonight. Or resplendent. Or really, really smart. Edge said he could have gone home and cried about losing the WWE Title in the opening Chamber match, but he took matters into his own hands. He could have been like the fans: "Big fat, failure turtles" and crawled into their shells. Edge said the fans told him he's a loser after the opening match, but they were all wrong. WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!

Edge then jumped out of the ring and jumped around telling everyone they're wrong. Where's Pepe the imaginary stick for that horse ride? He stopped at one kid on the front row and told him he'll grow up to be wrong his entire life. Kid smiled. Pops booed. Edge said Jesus turned water into wine (Jesus's first recorded miracle), but he turned the WWE Title into the World Hvt. Title.

Vickie took the mic and said Stephanie took Shane to the hospital during last night's show, which made her the highest-ranking authority figure in WWE. And so, she had to make a decision to find a suitable replacement for Kofi. And no one is more deserving than her husband, Edge. Back to the Board of Directors, who confirmed Vickie's decision that Edge is officially the World Hvt. champion. Boos. He said each and every one of them might not like it, but they will accept it. Cue up the big mid-ring liplock between storyline hubby and wife.

On cue, John Cena's music interrupted and Cena came out on stage to a huge pop. Once in the ring, Cena adjusted his cap and looked at his World Title belt resting on Edge's shoulder. Cena paused for the "Cena, Cena" chant before thanking them. Cena said they might not like what he says next. "Congratulations," he told Edge. Cena said how Edge got into that match is irrelevant because the fact is Edge won fair and square. He can't say he likes it, but congrats. Cena very calm before officially proclaiming Edge the new World champ.

Cena said he's remarkable, really really lucky, right place right time, and ... re-match. Crowd like that one. Edge furrowed his eyebrow. He said he competed in two Chamber matches last night, so he's not competing tonight. Maybe not for a week. Maybe not even a month. If you want to see Edge in the ring, check him out on Smackdown. Cena said he understands that. He wants Edge fresh. Cena told Edge to tell Festus and Funaki to say hello. He then threw up in his mouth a little bit thinking about Edge and Vickie doing whatever they do on Smackdown.

Cena said he officially does have a re-match against officially the World champ. Edge said he forgot all about that little Cena wit. Maybe he forget the history. Let's refresh it back to when Edge cashed in MITB to win his first WWE Title from Cena. (New Year's Resolution 2007.) Or when he went to Cena's home and slapped his old man. Edge then took Cena's line that the champ is here. Edge did the You Can't See Me wave in front of Cena, then he tried to walk off, but Cena yanked him back. Cena said if Edge tries to hide, he'll find him. You try to run, and I'll catch you. "We're going to fight, and I'm going to hurt you," Cena said. He shoved him away, then Edge stared back at him. Cue up Cena's music as Edge dipped out of the ring.

1 -- PRICELESS (CODY RHODES & TED DIBIASE, JR.) & WILLIAM REGAL (w/Layla) vs. CRYME TYME (SHAD GASPAR & JTG) & IC champion C.M. PUNK

Crow firmly behind Punk to start things off. Punk had his right elbow heavily taped, and he quickly delivered a kick to the face on Cody. Punk then nailed the Go 2 Sleep about 45 seconds into the match before making a cover, but Regal broke it up. DiBiase dragged Cody to the outside and they cut to break with the heels retreating.

They returned from break with Punk kicked Regal off the apron, but DiBiase nailed Punk from behind to smash him through the ropes to the floor. Regal then rolled Punk back into the ring to allow DiBiase to work on Punk. Layla encouraged Regal to kill Punk, but Punk fought back with a kick strike. Regal answered with a knee to the face before Cody tagged in and sold a jaw injury from the G2S earlier in the match.

At 7:30, JTG took the hot tag, but his offense was short-lived as DiBiase and Cody quickly took out JTG mid-ring. DiBiase then dropped JTG with the Dream Street - a Cobra Clutch Russian legsweep. He made the cover for the decisive win.

WINNERS: Priceless & Regal at 8:10. Okay match. Cryme Tyme report card - no pre-match ring intro, Shad had virtually zero TV time, and JTG's comeback was cut off very quickly. Meanwhile, IC Title feud of Punk vs. Regal continues to flounder. (*1/4)

In-ring: Chris Jericho was in the ring out of the break sporting a suit. He looked very upset and shared his stare with the crowd ringside. Jericho said the Academy Awards are this Sunday, so he is imploring the voters not to vote for Mickey Rourke. See, if he wins, that could send a message to all of the "Hall of Famers" and "washed up, hasbeen losers" who are leeching off this business. He said he knows why the fans "respect" the legends and enable them because they are like the fans: weak, shallow, insecure human beings. Jericho said they need to be shut up and shut down for their own good. Suddenly, Roddy Piper's music interrupted.

Piper walked out on stage looking tan (in a healthy way) with a little more volume to his hair. Piper, who made a name for himself in the Northwest, asked the music to be cut. He said he's going to shoot with Jericho on the truth. Piper said he's watched Jericho his entire career and he likes him. Tell you why. Jericho says what's on his mind, then you have the guts to come in the ring and back it up. Now, you get on TV and call out Flair and himself. What happened to being entertaining? Piper accused Jericho of patronizing the fans, then told him to shut the hell up.

Jericho told Piper to keep dancing on a string for these fans. Piper interrupted that he's not finished. He said Rourke is his friend and he watched his movie, "The Wrestler." Piper said he cried. The movie is not about a bunch of old-timers that want another run, he said. He said the movie is about the honor and respect we have for everyone. Piper said it's about the physical and emotional pain. Most of all, most important, they do what they do for the thrill of performing.

Piper...is...taking...his...time...delivering...this...promo. Piper said Flair was right that they live for this. He said fans come up to Piper and say they remember watching Piper slap Mr. T and shave Adrian Adonis's head. Chris, you want to bury these moments. No, these moments are to be celebrated. Piper said last year, he was in the Royal Rumble in MSG. He said 24,000 people jumped to their feet and for one second, he felt like he was back at the first WrestleMania. 24,000 in MSG? Must be on the "WWE scale of over-exaggeration" of saying WrestleMania 3 drew over 94,000.

Piper shook his head remembering the good ol' times. He said he might have one good hip and he might hurt all the time, but he'll crawl out here on his hands and knees to give the fans one more memorable moment. Cause "old school's cool," he said. Jericho looked down at the mat, then kneed him in the groin before pie-facing Piper. Lawler was indignant on commentary. Jericho screamed down at Piper to crawl on his knees. Jericho kicked Piper again, then unbuttoned his jacket and left the ring. Big heel heat on Jericho. Lawler said this might be the worst thing he's ever seen on Raw. He called Jericho a complete jerk.

Caldwell's Analysis: I think Piper was trying to win the Place Your Bet challenge for longest talking segment of the show dragging out his words on the promo. (Came in just short of the opening segment.) Still, that made for a great promo exchange leading to Jericho regaining his momentum as a top heel. Piper remained coherent during the promo after warming up in the first two minutes, so it made for a very nice exchange. Looking forward to seeing what WWE actually does with Jericho, Flair, Rourke, Piper, et al. To make it clear, I thought Piper's emotion was spot-on and his promo delivery was very effective to set up his major points. It just took some time to get there.

2 -- KANE vs. JAMIE NOBLE

Boot. Chokeslam. Pin. Kane made the cover for the win. Lawler had 16 seconds. I had 15.2 seconds on the stopwatch. Winner for Shortest Match of the night.

WINNER: Kane at 0:15. Well, nearly an hour of TV and still less than ten minutes of TV. And almost half of that occurred during the commercial.

In-ring: Just a minute before the top of the second hour, JBL's limo pulled up and JBL stepped out of the ring looking down on his luck with a busted lip and shiner over his right eye. JBL took the mic and said as of last night, Shawn Michaels is no longer his employee. His people wrote Michaels a very hefty check last night and he is now financially stable. ... And he could care less. JBL said people may call Michaels rich, but he is still wealthy because he has more money than any of the people in this arena.

JBL said he hired Michaels to get him to WrestleMania 25 as the conquering hero, but after No Way Out last night, he had an epiphany. Those goals were too small, you see. JBL said his goals are much grander and are about immortality because he believes he has a date with destiny at WrestleMania. Something no one has ever done and that is to end The Streak. JBL wants The Undertaker. His date with destiny is to go to WrestleMania and defeat Taker. And there, it will be known he is the greatest wrestler of all-time.

Not so fast, said Shawn Michaels's music. Michaels came out on stage fired up and back to the old Michaels dancing in the streets. Michaels came into the ring and danced on the ring apron before tossing away his Cowboy hat. JBL still had his on. Michaels smiled in JBL's face as the fans chanted "H-B-K." A little Scott Hall look from Michaels. He said last night, he had an epiphany too. Michaels said he can't spell it, but he had one of those. He is no longer Shawn Michaels employee of the month or struggling, conflicted family man. You are looking at the Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels, the headliner, the showstopper, the main event.

Michaels said more importantly, you are looking into the eyes of Mr. WrestleMania. Free at last, free at last. Michaels said a man said to him last month at the Royal Rumble that it's hell to get to heaven. He said now standing here looking toward WrestleMania, he realized he's living heaven on earth. As far as he can tell, there is no better someone to face The Undertaker than the man who revolutionized the ladder match, wrestled for over an hour and won the WWE Title, the man who had the Match of the Year 2008 against Flair, and since it's only a two-hour show, he's going to stop right there.

Michaels said if there's anyone who should face Taker at WM 25, you're looking at him. JBL sneered in Michaels's face, then said being able to pay your bills has given Michaels a little resurgence in his manhood. Beating Taker at WM is his destiny, not Shawn's, said JBL. Michaels reminded JBL he can't tell him what to do anymore, so here's his proposition. Next week: Michaels vs. JBL and the winner gets Undertaker at WrestleMania to beat The Streak. JBL smirked, then slowly said he accepts.

Michaels smiled. Looks like they're doing business one more time, he said. And just so you know, it's going to be a little bit different. When he pushes him, he's going to push back. Michaels poked JBL on the chest several times while proclaiming Michaels vs. Taker at WrestleMania. He had one final parting shot that JBL will be lucky to even make it to Mania. Michaels started to leave, then returned to poke JBL in the chest a few more times for good measure. Michaels left and celebrated on stage while JBL sneered at him from inside the ring.

Continued from previous post...

3 -- REY MYSTERIO vs. MIKE KNOX

Bell sounded and Knox kicked Rey in the gut to put a beating on sore Rey. Knox wanted a shoulderbreaker, but Rey slipped out only to take a big knock-down clothesline. Knox then chucked Rey over the top rope to inflict more pain, cutting to a break.

Rey was still taking a beating out of the break. Rey tried a comeback, but Rey snapped off a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a two count. Rey recovered on the floor, but Knox chased him back into the ring to whip Rey hard into the corner turnbuckle. Lots of talk about Rey taking such physical punishment like no one else in WWE history. Knox stalked Rey, who fought back with kicks to the body before Knox stomped him with a boot to the gut. Knox slowly picked up Rey, then put him in a bearhug at 8:00.

Rey escaped by twisting over Knox's body into a drop toehold that took Knox to the middle rope. Rey hit the 619, then wanted a springboard smash, but Knox ducked before hanging Rey upside down in the corner. Knox landed body blows on Rey before a referee reprimand took him back into the corner. Knox tried to charge Rey for a smash, but Rey back-flipped to avoid him, then Rey rolled up Knox from behind for the pin and the win. Announcers were shocked. Knox stood motionless in the ring trying to figure out what happened.

WINNER: Rey at 9:45. Nice victory for Rey. We keep thinking it's the blow-off match to this feud, but perhaps there will be yet another Knox vs. Rey match down the line considering Knox had this one won a few times. This wasn't half-bad for Knox, who is developing a certain big-man charisma that's subtle and effective. (*1/2)

4 -- Women's champion MELINA vs. BETH PHOENIX (w/Santino Marella and Rosa Mendes) -- Women's Title match

After Rosa and Santino tried to interfere, the babyface divas stormed ringside to attack Beth on the floor. Melina took advantage by pinning Beth back in the ring to retain the Women's Title. Hopefully this will lead to a blow-up of Team Glamarella. The program has been losing steam for weeks.

WINNER: Melina at 3:15. Standard divas match. Not much time allotted for a competitive bout. (*)

In-ring: Shane McMahon danced out on stage in his street clothes. No limp. No sign of pain from last night. He was even chewing on some gum. The man is impervious to pain. Is he human? He is the son of Vince. Randy Orton's music hit, then Orton strolled out on stage covered in grease. Shane grew tired of how long it took Orton to come to the ring, so Shane met him on the floor for their unsanctioned fight. There was an exchange of haymakers, then they spilled to the front row of the stands. Shane flew off the guardrail with a clothesline that knocked down Orton, then he landed a straight right hand.

They brawled to the production area near the hard camera area, using various computer equipment as weaponry. An iMac was nearly used as a TV monitor. Orton knocked Shane back over the guardrail near the announce table, where he rammed Shane head-first into the table. Shane took a blow to the ring steps, then Orton kicked him on the back and face. They entered the ring where Orton began toying with Shane by stomping him repeatedly. Camera focused on Orton's face as a hint of drool slowly left his chin. Wonderful. Orton knocked Shane to the outside.

At the top of the hour, Orton continued the assault on Shane. Lawler said that's enough, then Shane suddenly SuperShaned and tackled Orton across the announce table. He started landing those right hand blows before using the announce table chair to knock around Orton. Shane, sweating like crazy, then picked up the ringbell and cracked it over Orton's head. Announcers were silent during most of this, allowing front row fans to add their commentary. Shane then rolled Orton inside the ring and put him in position for the coast-to-coast. Except, Shane put a chair in front of Orton instead of a trashcan.

Shane went to the opposite corner, shook off the pain he was feeling, then set up for Coast to Coast, only to have DiBiase and Rhodes storm the ring and put a beat down on Shane. Cheaters! Cole said Orton supposedly didn't need their help. This time, they put a beating on Shane including Cody hitting his spin-out facebuster. Orton then came to life and slowly walked over to Shane's lifeless body. He looked at his boys to give them non-verbal instructions, then Orton slowly backed up. He measured Shane for The Punt and connected square in the head. Shane went numb, then rolled onto his back. SuperShane would have no-sold and popped to his feet.

Stephanie McMahon then ran out to the ring and checked on Shane, whose eyes were rolling in the back of his head. Steph checked on Shane, then medics hit the ring to check on her brother. With IED flashing in his eyes, Orton slowly walked over to the scene. Shane was put on a back brace as Orton slowly peered down. Steph then stood up to plead with Orton not to do any more damage. He suddenly snapped and hit the RKO on Steph. Orton snapped out of his IED and backed away to the ring ropes to observe the scene.

Triple H then stormed the ring without any music and went right to Stephanie to check on his wife. Hunter was in street clothes and surveyed the scene while Orton and his cronies slowly made their way on stage. Hunter then had this intense, intense look of pain, anger, near-tears, and Hogan-hulking-up written on his face. Very much made for a WWE video package. Orton realized he did some damage and his face retreated. They closed with everyone KO'ed except for Hunter, who stared at Orton on stage looking to kill him. There's your WM main event for Orton cashing in his Royal Rumble title victory.

ECW on Sci-Fi Results: 2-17-09

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report).

1 -- THE BOOGEYMAN vs. PAUL BURCHILL (w/Katie Lea)

Boogeyman went looking for his bag of worms at 2:00 and Burchill rolled up Boogey from behind for the win. Burchill then celebrated on the ramp in a very awkward way. Boogey tried to corner Katie ringside, but she escaped harm and ran into big brother's arms.

WINNER: Burchill in 2:00. Just a going-nowhere match between two big men without a storyline to work with. Seriously, Burchill goes off on some Mobile dude and he's punished by being asked to do his job of wrestling another lug? Apparently that suffices as storyline progression on ECW these days. (1/2*)

2 -- TOMMY DREAMER vs. World tag team champion JOHN MORRISON (w/World tag team champion The Miz)

Striker said Dreamer needs to stop looking for fan adulation and start beating people up. Dreamer knocked Morrison to the floor, then wanted a move from the ring apron, but Miz ran interference allowing Morrison to slam Dreamer hard to the floor. As I speculated last week, Striker referenced the battle of Universe blogs. He added the feud has spilled into the parking lot. At 2:00, ref Charles Robinson had enough of The Miz and gave him the boot. Dreamer and Miz battled up top, then Dreamer wanted a second rope move, but Morrison kicked him in the gut and hit the Moonlight Drive for the pin and the win. Striker said there's got to come a time when you call a spade a spade with Dreamer. Grisham said Dreamer's got to be questioning himself on whether it's time to walk away.

WINNER: Morrison in 4:00. Nice, albeit brief, TV match. I like the set-up to Dreamer deciding on fight or flight with four months until the ECW PPV in June. Plenty of time to set up the angle with the announcers doubting him after each loss.

3 -- TYSON KIDD (w/Natalya) vs. CADEN MATHEWS

T.J. Wilson (Kidd) came to the ring all-smiles, not intimidated by the choice in opponent tonight. Kidd showed off his flurry of kicks early on, then Caden landed an elbow smash beneath the chin. Kidd then hit a slingshot leg drop across the apron before hitting a springboard elbow drop in center ring for the decisive win.

WINNER: Kidd in 2:00. Good effort from Kidd, who isn't really defined as a heel or a babyface considering he debuted last week without introductory vignettes or any sense of build-up. He has that Jack Swagger deal going for him with an overbearing smile that has him an easy heel so far. (3/4*)

4 -- ECW champion JACK SWAGGER & MARK HENRY vs. FINLAY (w/Hornswoggle) & CHRISTIAN

Grisham said Christian entered "exclusive contract negotiations" with the ECW brand upon deciding to return to WWE and this was the only brand he wanted to be on. Nice storyline explanation to elevate the ECW brand. Striker talked up ECW GM Teddy Long, then transitioned into a political rant against Barack Obama. Stimulating. Christian scored a nearfall on Swagger at 3:00, then nailed a back kick. Suddenly, Finlay dropped down to the floor to avoid a tag, but he decided better of things and slapped hands with Christian for a tag.

Back from break, Swagger and Henry doubled up on Finlay. Beat down on Finlay went on for a while, then Christian finally accepted the hot tag at 12:00 to go after Swagger. Henry and Swagger accidentally knocked heads and Christian tried a roll up, but Swagger kicked out. Christian then ran into a belly-to-belly suplex, but he kicked out in time. Tony Atlas then ran interference against Christian, but Christian fought him off, fought Swagger off, and nailed a top rope headbutt. Henry broke up the pin, though, and Hornswoggle ran into the ring to bite Henry's leg. Ref didn't call for a DQ, though. Bodies everywhere, then Swagger tried the gutwrench bomb on Christian, but Christian slipped out into the Unprettier for the pin and the win. Striker said it's the Killswitch now. Post-match, Finlay extended a hand to Christian to set up Christian vs. Swagger for the ECW Title on next week's show.

WINNERS: Christian & Finlay in 14:00. Sluggish middle, then a very nice finish. Christian looks very refreshed two weeks into his WWE return. It would be too soon for Christian to win the ECW Title on next week's show, as I'd like to see him and Swagger carry their mini-feud to WrestleMania unless Christian is plugged into Money in the Bank. Jeff Hardy's attacker ended up being his brother Matt however as most people guessed, it was suppose to to be the returning Christian:
SmackDown writer Michael Hayes originally came up with the idea of Christian Cage doing all the sneak attacks on Jeff Hardy to be revealed at the Royal Rumble. As time went on and people figured that Christian was behind it, and/or Hayes realized how Vince felt about Christian, he approached Vince with the idea of giving the role to Matt Hardy. Hayes sold the idea on the fact that Matt vs. Jeff would be a bigger surprise and bigger draw than Jeff vs. Christian, and Vince agreed with him.

John Laurinaitis had been pushing to do something with Christian sooner, rather than have him sit and wait until April. While all the talk about his return was going on, Vince started to sour on Christian. Back in 2005, whenever ideas were brought up for Christian, Vince always nixed them and only saw Cage as an upper midcarder. Vince even said in meetings that Christian had no star aura about him and that his head shot promotional photo was one of the worse he had ever seen.

RAW writer Brian Gewirtz asked about bringing him to RAW after Matt got the spot on SmackDown, but there was concern he would end up like D-Lo Brown - just hired and forgot about without getting a chance. They came up with the idea to give him a new feud with someone Vince is high on, that being Jack Swagger. They felt the longer they didn’t get him on TV, the more likely he’d end up never to get going and this was the best thing they had for him. The original idea for the ECW show had the same opener with the two but several segments were planned that showed Christian meeting the talent on the brand and putting him over like it was a big thing he was there.

The actual match was booked to be a short sprint for him to shine some more, ending with Swagger getting counted out or some crazy no contest. Vince ended up changing the show to what it ended up being. It was seen internally as Vince having no vision of Christian as a star.

AAA on Galavision TV Report

By: Xavier Hernandez
Show aired on : 02/14/2009

Show opens as usual with summary of last week's show. Konnan throws food at the fans, and makes a new deal with the Hermandad. The clowns are still undefeated, up to 251 straight wins. We had yet, another classic main event, where Konnan and the Legion destroyed the AAArmy. For today, the clowns and Chessman challenge the Black Family for the Atomic titles, plus another exciting edition of AAA's TV main event match.

*Promo Video: review of how Mesias turned face, and joined the AAArmy to face Konnan and the legion. (I still can't believe how the fans in Mexico buy the Mesias faceturn).

*In-Ring Segment: Zorro is in the mic, with the legion next to him. Zorro can't believe how excited the fans are to hear what the prophet has to say. But Zorro says he's not crazy enough to waste his energy talking to hundreds of mummies (note Gunanajuato is famous for their mummies). Konna grabs the mic to unsult the crowd, and says they're full of crap. Konnan addresses Vampiro, and he's tired of him messing his business.Konnan says Vampiro is blocking him from bringing in new stars from other countries. Konnan says the Legion is still dominating everything, but this brings Mesias out. He says fans came to see wrestling, and not a bald guy talking trash. Mesias tells Konnan and his crew to leave the ring, but Konnan challenges Mesias to kick them out himself. The Legion is assaulted by D-Mex, and there you have it. Waltman tells Zorro he'll have his blood tonight. Konnan says they made a big mistake by attacking him from behind. Mesias says the war just started, and claims this is Konnan's last year in the business.

*Promo Video: This one hypes the feud between Zorro and Sean Waltman. (Actually, I believe this feud have been nicely booked, but I don't think it will be an exciting one, when it comes to in-ring performance).

1) Poder del Norte (Tigre Cota, Tito Santana & Rio Bravo) vs. RFA (Laredo Kid, El Angel & Aerostar)

-Only Fall: Early dives from everyone, including Aerostar's Springboard Comet. Tecnicos use a variety of aerial moves to dominatre the rudos. Poder gets tired, and they they start the triple team attack. Tecnicos make the comeback, with heavy strikes. Laredo hits his Step Hilo on Bravo, and Angel hits a Diving Crossbody. Tigre and Tito follows them with more Hilos. Aerostar closes with his Meteor Senton. In the ring, Tigre misses the Lionsault, and Laredo puts him away with a Brainbuster. 450 Splash by Laredo, but someone breaks the pin. It's none other than the incredible Billy Boy. This causes the referee to award the DQ.

Winners (DQ): Laredo Kid, El Angel & Aerostar

*Pretaped Segment: Billy cuts a promo. He says he was tired of supporting the Apaches, and he's tired of beign rejected by Fabi. Their actions have just awaken the monster within Billy, and his new goal id to destroy the Apaches, because they're worthless, and they deserve it.On the other hand, El Apache is mad because Billy betrayed his family. Fabi says she's going to destroy Billy, but daddy says he'll take care of Billy himself.(Will this feud ever end?)

2) Los Apaches (El Apache, Mari Apache & Fabi Apache) vs. Billy Boy, El Oriental & Cinthia Moreno

-Only Fall: Billy flees from the Apaches, which is a good way to start his new heel persona. The heels snap, and we have the classic triple team attack. Oriental accidentally dropkicks his sister, and the comeback begins. Apache also snapped, and he slaps everyone, including his own daughters. The rudos take control back, and they use heavy strikes. Apache is bleeding buckets, and the ladies cannot help their father, Oriental uses a Falling Headbutt on Apaceh, and Billy puts his foot over for the three count.

Winners: Billy Boy, El Oriental & Cinthia Moreno

-Aftermath: The Apache girls attack Billy, but Poder del Norte arrives to help Billy. The Apache family is destroyed, and el Apache got the worst part.

*Noti AAA:
-The AAA website is renewed and updated everyday. Based on a poll, Guadalajara might be the place of RdR 2009. (To be honest, I've never visited the site)
-El Fresero, just had his 50th anniversary as a referee, and celebrated his farewell show with many AAA stars. He'll be now a promoter.
-Konnan just made a new deal with Hermandad, and they have a new target, assigned by Konnan.
-Reminder, to bring the keys for the statue of Antonio Pena.

*Pretaped Segment: Zorro talks with the Harts and Nikki. Zorro says the world is crazy enough to desire his own blood. Zorro says he didn't like how Konnan handled the D-Mex, so next time he'll take care of them on his own. Evans says the Harts are 100% behind Zorro, because they are sick and tired of D-Mex. Nikki wants to know whats up with the mask Zorro holds, and he simply says it's something beautiful.

3) D-Generation Mex (X-Pac, Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov) vs. Zorro, Teddy Hart & Jack Evans (w/Nikki)

-Only Fall: Waltman wants Zorro badly, but he gets Teddy instead. Zorro and Shadow kick off with fast paced moves. Everyone gets a chance to do their own moves, but suddenly the heels start the triple team attack. Zorro now attacks his new rival Waltman with a Triangle dropkick. the comeback begins with dropkicks from both Romero and Koslov. Tons of near falls from both sides, but they keep breaking them. Evans hits his Cartwheel Dive, but Romero dodges. Teddy connects with a Moonsault, and so does Koslvo with a Springboard Elbow. The referee check on everyone outside, and Zorro capitalizes to pull his kendo stick. Zorro accidentally hits the referee, and waltman takes the kendo. The referee sees the kendo in Waltman's hands, and assumes he hit him. The DQ is awarded.

Winners (DQ): Zorro, Teddy Hart & Jack Evans

*Promo Video: This one hypes how Chessman abandoned AAA, and took the clowns with him. Vampiro has been rpovoked by Chessman, but his status as a comissioner doesn't allow him to fight Chessman back. Vampiro says Chessman is a selfish person, who only complains for everything. Chessman is not well liked by everyone, and that hurts Chessman as a star. On the other hand, the Black Family tell the clowns that they are undefeated when it comes to title matches. They know Chessman perfectly, so it won't make a difference for the clowns. When it's all set and done, the Family will remain champions. The clowns say they are the best team in AAA, and they can already feel the belts on their waists. Chessman says Roldan will regret turning his back on the four of them. Chessman says Vampiro and Mesias suck because they are not Mexican. Chessman and the clowns are nothing more but victims.

4) Mexican National Atomic Championship
Ozz, Cuervo, Scoria & Spiritu (c) vs. Psycho Clown, Killer Clown, Zombie Clown & Chessman

-Only Fall: The Family starts off with the early ambush on the tecnicos. Chessman tries to bring a chair, but the heels take from him to use it as their own weapon. Chessman finally makes the comeback with many backbreakers and spears. Chessman misses the 450 Splash, and the Family attacks again. Chessman is pinned, but he's not the captain. Scoria tries to springboard, but he slips, and the comeback begins. The clowns attack the injured leg of Scoria. Looks like the injury is serious, since a doctor is checking on Scoria, and he's taken on a stretcher. The clowns take full controol of the match. Both Ozz and Psycho socre pinfalls, at the same time, so Spiritu and Killer and out. Psycho misses a Plancha, and Ozz hits the Rolling Cutter. Tornillo by Ozz, but Pyscho kicks out. Powerslam by Psycho, and the pinfall is scored.

Winners and NEW Champions: Psycho Clown, Killer Clown, Zombie Clown & Chessman

-Aftermath: Vampiro comes with the belts in his handsm but the Family stops him from entering the ring. The clowsn and Chessman get the belts, and the Family attacks Vampiro. The clowns try to help Vampiro, but Chessman spears Vampiro. The RFA comes to the rescue, but they're not match for the clowns and Chessman. Vampiro is destroyed. After the match, the clowns say the titles are proof of their greatness as a team. Chessman says this is the beginning of the end for the Legion. They are after the world titles, hairs and masks. After all, Chessman and the clowns are nothing more but victims, but they are also the best AAA has.

*Pretaped Segment: Abismo and Parka talk. Abismo says there is only one Abismo, and the Vipers are done. But Abyss better leave, or Abismo will destroy him. Parka says he's after Electro. Mesias joins in, and says the AAArmy is stronger than ever. Mesias will not rest until Roldan retakes control of the company. Whether you like it or not.

5) Konnan, Electroshock & Black Abyss vs. Mesias, La Parka & Abismo Negro

-Only Fall: Guess what, I still refuse to call these matches, that have nothing more but repetitive patterns, week after week. Legion attacks the tecnicos, then the comeback starts, then Konnan is smashed into a chair, and Mesias picks up the pinfall.

Winners: Mesias, La Parka & Abismo Negro

Aftermath: The rest of the Legion arrives to destroy the tecnicos, and I missed the last few minutes after that. Sorry!

Apparently Vince McMahon got a big kick out of the Jericho altercation with some fans up in Canada:
WWE star Chris Jericho wasn't laughing during an altercation with two WWE fans following a Raw house show on February 7 in Canada. The opposite was true of WWE head Vince McMahon.

Raw announcer Jerry Lawler says he was talking to McMahon prior to the Feb. 9 Raw TV taping and McMahon made a light-hearted comment to Jericho.

"Vince was kinda chuckling about it," Lawler said in an interview with the U.K. Sun. "Jericho walked by and he said: "Watch out! Jericho will hit you! He'll knock you right down!" Then he adds: "Especially if you're a girl!"

Lawler said everyone was "having a joke about it" and he didn't feel it was a big deal. He said the incident would have been common-place years ago in the territory era because fans took the good guy vs. bad guy storyline so seriously.

"We used to be able to get the fans so riled up that they literally wanted to physically attack you after the matches," Lawler said. "That hasn't happened in a long time, so it's almost like hats off to Chris Jericho – for doing his job. He's being the best bad guy that he can be."

I just have to say something: I really miss WCW right now. Like really. I know it was bad in 1999 to 2000 but it's still fun to just watch sometimes. :mr_t:

Wrestling legend reportedly linked to tragic and sad death of elderly man

Former AWA star and founder Verne Gagne is linked to the death of an elderly man he shared a room with an assisted living facility. Gagne reportedly threw the man down to the ground, causing permanent damage that ended his life 20 days later.

Gagne suffers from severe dementia and his family says he does not remember any of the incident with roommate Helmut Gutmann, 97 years old, that resulted in Gutmann breaking his hip.

The incident took place on January 26 and the Minnesota Post reports: "An ambulance was summoned and Gutmann was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was released days later, but his condition deteriorated and he later died in hospice care."

Betty Gutmann, the wife of the roommate, was saddened by the events, but understands Gagne does not understand what happened.

"You can't blame the person that did it," she said. "Gagne doesn't know what he's doing. I feel so sorry for his family, because they are faced with a terrible problem of what to do."

Gagne reportedly had a history of violent outbursts where he returned to his wrestling form and put other elderly patients in chokeholds. A third such incident led to his dismissal from the assisted living facility, but he was then allowed to return.

FYI: Verne Gagne was inducted into the 2006 WWE Hall of Fame class in Chicago prior to WrestleMania 22, ending a long-standing feud against Vince McMahon, at least for one night.

Caldwell's Analysis: This is a very sad story. It's certainly sad for Mr. Gutmann, who is listed as a Nazi survivor from World War II and apparently contributed to society when he moved to the U.S. As for Gagne, it shouldn't be the lasting memory of a man who dedicated his life to wrestling and serving the community. It's merely a sign of what happens to healthy men in their old age when life changes, but the only thing they know in life is their former line of work. Gagne's line of work just happened to be amateur and pro wrestling, and he was a heck of an athlete.
