ECW on Sci-Fi Results: 10-7-08

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report).

1 -- FINLAY (w/Hornswoggle) & TOMMY DREAMER vs. JACK SWAGGER & MIKE KNOX

Finlay started things off with a flurry of offense on Knox, then the action broke down with Dreamer ending up on the floor via a big boot from Knox. Let's grab a break.

They returned from a pretty lengthy opening break with Knox working over Dreamer in the heel corner. Let's get Swagger in there for some work, and the All-American American took his liberties with Dreamer's neck with a neck vice on the mat. Finlay then took the hot tag at 7:00 and excited the crowd by taking it to Knox with a dropkick from the second turnbuckle. He nailed a rolling crucifix slam, but Swagger broke up the pin. Dreamer then knocked Swagger to the floor allowing Hornswoggle to come flying off the top with the tadpole splash on Knox. Ref cleared Horny, then Finlay dropped Knox with a shillelagh for the pin and the win. Grisham dropped a pun that Swagger lost a little bit of his swagger after the defeat, which drew a groan from Striker. Dreamer then did an Irish jig with Horny afterward to celebrate not having to take another pinfall/beating on TV.

WINNERS: Finlay & Hornswoggle in 9:00. Nice opener. Crowd was surprisingly hot for a house show match, but F&H are always popular with the audience. (*)

2 -- MARK HENRY (w/Tony Atlas) vs. JAMIE NOBLE

Striker took the first few minutes to point out that WWE does not have an injury list, unlike NFL or MLB. He said we're all day-to-day and questionable, so you just go out and wrestle. Grisham suggested WWE's injury report would list Noble's injuries as simply "body" after this match. I love Tuesday nights. Henry toyed with Noble with forearm blows that knocked Noble around the ring. Noble tried to come back with a top rope splash, but Henry easily caught him in mid-air and turned it into the World's Strongest Slam for the decisive pin and the win.

Afterward, Henry wasn't satisfied with his snack and he delivered another World's Strongest Slam. Henry wanted a third, but Matt Hardy's music hit and Hardy stormed the ring in street clothes. Hardy kicked Henry into the corner, then gave Atlas the Twist of Fate. That served as a distraction, though, allowing Henry to catch Hardy with the World's Strongest Slam. Henry wasn't done, as he finished off Hardy's night with a big splash in center ring.

WINNER: Henry in 4:00. Good comeback for Henry to set up the next chapter in the feud against Hardy and his shiny shirt. (APB for Monty Brown.) This probably won't end until Henry gets the title back or he ends up on another brand. That's just fine, as Henry is entertaining in my book. (1/2*)

3 -- C.M. PUNK & EVAN BOURNE & RICKY ORTIZ & KOFI KINGSTON vs. THE MIZ & JOHN MORRISON & World tag team champions TED DIBIASE, JR. & CODY RHODES (w/Manu)

After a few moments in the ring, the babyfaces took control and got their shine as the heels recovered on the floor leading to yet another break.

Shockingly, they returned with the heels in control. Cody was working over Bourne in center ring after we saw what happened during the break when Manu intervened to give the heels the advantage. Striker repeated the point that these eight men are the future of the sport. I wonder if Sting is cringing right now. Heels continued to work over Bourne, as Striker interjected that Cody has been Cialis-like with his three-day effectiveness since Sunday. Wow. Crowd chanted loudly for Punk, but Bourne couldn't get that hot tag. Finally, Bourne hopped out of an ankle lock from Morrison and made the tag to Punk at 10:00.

Punk took on everyone, then the action broke down. Even Ricky got himself some on Cody before hitting a plancha onto the floor. Kofi then wanted to get high, as Grisham put it, with a frog splash to the outside on everyone. Striker could only chuckle. Punk followed in the ring with a bulldog on Morrison, but Manu distracted Punk. DiBiase then slingshot Punk across the top rope, setting up Morrison for the corkscrew neckbreaker finisher on Punk for the pin and the win. The show closed at the top of the hour with all five heels celebrating on the outside.

WINNERS: Team Morrison in 12:00. Fine, predictable match. Won't be remembered next week. Won't be remembered in an hour, but it provided some decent action to cap off a Tuesday night and get some young stars in a TV main event. (*1/2)

I saw only the first match on RAW and I LOVED how Santino got the crowd to hate him even more! That was possibly some of the best heel heat i've seen this year! He whips out an OKC Thunder shirt in front of the Supersonics fans! I like that one dude that had the signs that said "Save our Sonics" and "In Santino we trust".

TNA Impact! Results: 10-9-08

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- RHINO vs. CUTE KIP JAMES (w/Angelina Love and Velvet Sky) -- No DQ match

Kip stalled on the outside, so Rhino took the fight to him to start things off. Rhino wanted to use a table early on, but Kip cut him off and went on the offensive. Beautiful Peeps became involved by choking Rhino on the bottom rope while Kip had the ref distracted. Announcers were so into the action that they just went on plugging the PPV instead of being outraged by the blatant interference creating an unfair playing field for Rhino. Kip then accepted the brown paper bag, but Rhino fought off Kip and started his comeback on Kip. Rhino with an inside-out clothesline, then he went to the floor and retrieved a table. Rhino landed a belly-to-belly suplex in center ring, then he wanted the Gore through the table, but Kip moved and Rhino stopped short. Angelina then hooked Rhino's legs and Velvet sprayed stuff in his eyes for a temporary blinding. Kip then speared Rhino through the table for the pin and the win.

Afterward, Velvet and Angelina tried to inflict more damage on Rhino, but ODB and Rhaka Khan made the save wielding chairs. Ladies bailed, leaving Kip to smile and duck out of the ring to fight another day.

WINNER: Kip in 5:00. Fine. Not memorable, but it advanced the storyline with the Beautiful Peeps in the knockouts main event picture. Just not the same intrigue as when Gail Kim is involved, but it's fine. (1/2*)

2 -- PETEY WILLIAMS vs. SONJAY DUTT (w/So Cal Val) vs. JAY LETHAL vs. CONSEQUENCES CREED -- #1 contender match to the X Division Title

Winner gets Bashir for the belt at the PPV. Glad to see such great build-up to an X Division Title match. Dutt wanted a kiss from Val early on, ya know, since they're still in the honeymoon phase, so Lethal dropkicked him in the face. Back in the ring, Dutt and Lethal battled until Petey gave Lethal the codebreaker. Lots of posing for the hard camera here. West jumped on that and said you can't delay in a four-way match with so much going on. Dutt and Petey decided to work together, but Dutt turned on Petey. Unfortunately, Petey had it scouted and he tossed Dutt to the outside. Lethal then clotheslined Petey and gave him an enziguiri for a nearfall at 3:00. It's worth noting that Dutt is awesome. Back to the action where Petey teased the Destroyer on several folks, but rapid-fire action ensued with men flying everywhere. Creed finally secured Dutt with a backslide for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Creed in 5:00. Really could have stretched that out to ten minutes, as they packed in a ton of moves into a little amount of time. Good action, though. (*1/2)

3 -- TNA tag team champions BEER MONEY, INC. (ROBERT ROODE & JAMES STORM w/Miss Jackie) vs. MATT MORGAN & ABYSS -- non-title match

West was great with a dry response that he's so excited to have Ray and Devon on commentary. Tenay asked Ray about Mongo being in the Monster's Ball match. He said he doesn't quite understand why Mongo is needed when there really is no order to be restored in the MB match. To the action where Roode and Storm cut the legs out from under Morgan to begin working on Morgan. Abyss then took a tag, but they did the ole spot where the ref didn't see the tag. They ran through the motions on that one, so it didn't build much heat for the eventual hot tag to Abyss at 4:00. Abyss did the Umaga running rear end splash on the opponents, before giving Storm the Torture Rack slam for a nearfall. Action broke down, then Morgan came flying off the top rope with a splash before landing a big boot on Roode. Abyss then grappled Storm and gave him the Black Hole Slam for the win. Ray went off to talk trash, then Devon vowed to pick up tag title reign no. 21 at the PPV.

WINNERS: Morgan & Abyss in 5:00. Morgan was impressive with the offense at the end. Pretty good build-up for Monster's Ball on Sunday. (*)

4 -- Knockouts champion TAYLOR WILDE & ROXXI vs. AWESOME KONG & RAISHA SAEED

Action broke down without any sense of rule or order, then Taylor and Roxxi knocked Kong to the outside. Saeed was left in the ring, but Wilde accidentally gave Roxxi an enziguiri kick when Saeed ducked. Kong then yanked Taylor to the outside. In the ring, Saeed slammed Roxxi and went up top, but Roxxi moved out of the way of a moonsault. Roxxi then kicked Saeed in the gut and wanted the Voodoo Drop, but Kong smashed her from behind. Kong then grappled Roxxi and smashed her with the implant buster for the easy pin and the win.

WINNERS: Kong & Saeed in 3:00. Fine to set up the three-way Knockouts Title match at the PPV, but not exactly reinforcing Roxxi as a viable threat here. (1/2*)

5 -- A.J. STYLES vs. BOOKER T -- Christian Cage as special referee

Back from break, Booker went to work on Styles. He kept working on Styles as Christian called things right down the middle. Styles then came back with the Pele soccer kick out of nowhere to begin his comeback. Styles with several clotheslines before landing a snap suplex for a two count. He then rolled into an armbar, but Booker got his feet on the ropes for a rope break. After a pause, they went to the finish and both men were secured in a small package pin. Christian called for the bell after the three count, but there was no clear winner. Booker thought he won, but Christian put his arm down and raised Styles's hand in victory.

After the decision, Booker tried to jump Christian, but he fought him and clotheslined Booker to the outside. Styles then tried to shake Christian's hand, but Christian clotheslined him hard to the mat. Cornette came storming out and screamed about nothing being resolved. "I wanted to settle everything tonight, but we didn't settle anything," he said. Welcome to TNA. Cornette then booked the inevitable: a three-way match at the PPV to settle it.

WINNER: Styles in 10:00. Just a TV match to fill some time and set up the PPV match. Definitely not memorable, but it was fine. (*1/2)

WWE Smackdown Results: 10-10-08

Results courtesy of ProWrestling.net (direct link to Twilling's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1. Brie Bella defeated Natalya (with Victoria) in 3:02. They exchanged backslides and both scored nearfalls. Brie tried to slide under the ring but Victoria tried to stop her. She was met by Hornswoggle, who chased her off. "Brie" came out from both sides of the ring at separate times and hit a crucifix for the pinfall...

Twill's Two Cents: Time to move to the next step of this storyline.

2. R-Truth defeated Shelton Benjamin in a non-title match in 5:01. Benjamin cut a pretaped promo saying he was the only safe investment there was. Shelton used his amateur wrestling skills to ground Truth but Truth came back with a corkscrew flying forearm for a long two count. The finish came when Shelton tried a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and Truth rolled over Shelton for the pin...

Twill's Two Cents: I like this feud. This match could have been better but the feud is going to continue so I am okay with this finish. This could be a very good PPV match.

3. Jeff Hardy defeated MVP in 11:32. Hurricane Helms popped up in his bubble saying the P in MVP stood for "Please. Please win a match. I'm just sayin'." Helms is awesome. It will be great to see him back in the ring. Hardy grounded Porter and went to the top rope. Porter slid to the floor. JR said MVP was one win away from a financial bonus in his contract...

MVP scored multiple nearfalls with a variety of impressive offense. Hardy came back for a moment but MVP hit a modified face buster for another two count. Hardy came back and hit the Swanton Bomb for the unspectacular win...

Twill's Two Cents: I enjoyed the match but the fact that the history between these two was not acknowledged at all sucked. MVP deserves better than this.

4. Carlito and Primo Colon and Jesse and Festus defeated Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, Kenny Dykstra, and Ryan Braddock in 3:16. Popped up video Helms said the heel foursome strikes fear in the hearts of no one. He is just sayin'. JR likes Braddock. Too bad WWE doesn't like him more than they do Ricky Ortiz. All hell broke loose pretty quickly, allowing Festus to score the win. He gazed at Maria after the match...

5. The Great Khali (with Ranjin Singh) defeated three random jobbers in :09. Khali quickly scored the pin and they looked for someone to be a part of the Kiss Cam. They brought a larger woman into the ring to kiss Khali. Khali was reluctant but he did it. The crowd cheered and he smiled...

Twill's Two Cents: I love Khali like this. He can be funny and entertaining.

6. The Big Show defeated Triple H by disqualification in 9:50. Justin Roberts handled the in ring introductions. Show looked to use his overwhelming power early on and was successful in doing so. On the floor, Show ran himself into the ringpost. However, he was still able to get the best of the champ. Show hit a huge sidewalk slam as the show went to commercial...

Show had H locked in a neck vice coming back from commercial. Show scored a nearfall with that Melina like leg drop move that he does. Triple H went to the second rope and locked in a sleeper hold. Show broke out of the move by slamming H. H hit the facebuster and tried the Pedigree, but Show hit a delayed backdrop. Ouch.

Show set up the knockout punch and missed. H hit multiple rights and charged at Show, who countered with a chokeslam. Instead of going for the cover, he picked up Triple H to hit him with the right to the back of the head. The lights went out and when they came back on, Undertaker appeared. Taker and Show fought to the back as the lights went on and off.

Vladimir Kozlov came down to the ring to attack Triple H. Jeff Hardy came down to assist The Game. Hardy and H fought off Kozlov. Unexpectedly, Hardy hit a Twist of Fate on Triple H and eyeballed Kozlov. JR called Jeff "Matt Hardy" but we know what he meant. They stared each other down as the show went off the air...

Twill's Two Cents: I enjoyed the championship match and I definitely enjoyed the post match action. They have created five legitimate main event talents on Smackdown. I can tell you that my good friend and loyal Dot Net reader, Joshua Lorenzo is happy about this because he has been telling me all week that he hopes Jeff Hardy will remain in the WWE Championship picture.

TNA Bound For Glory PPV Results: 10-12-08

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's ongoing report).

1 -- X DIVISION DEAL -- SUPER ERIC vs. SONJAY DUTT (w/So Cal Val) vs. JAY LETHAL vs. SHARK BOY vs. PETEY WILLIAMS vs. JIMMY RAVE (w/Christy Hemme) vs. CURRY MAN vs. CHRIS SABIN vs. ALEX SHELLEY -- #1 Contender to the X Division Title

Ref Rudy Charles has the assignment of being on top of the cage opening to check for any photo finishes. Lots of show-boating from everyone early on here, as the X Division guys are more known for doing a spot, then playing to the hard camera, then taking a boot to the gut from someone. Plenty of crazy spots here that got the crowd hot and wanting more, more, more from the wrestlers. Not an example of long-term selling, as bodies just kept flying in and out of the "center of the action" for the camera to pick up. Petey picked up the biggest pop at 10:00 with the Canadian Destroyer on Shelley. If TNA just focused on Petey and put full effort into developing his character, he could be the star the X Division needs to pave the way for these guys to give them a unique feel rather than just seeming like interchangeable parts.

Curry was the first one with a legit shot to climb out of the cage, but he fell off. Lethal and Dutt then traded blows on top of the dome, then Dutt got his legs caught in the monkey bars. Lethal then powered himself to the center of the dome and he escaped through the roof to secure the victory. Lethal is number one contender.

WINNER: Lethal in 13:00 to become #1 Contender to the X Division Title. Lots of coordinated stunts and bumps that require a complete suspension of disbelief, but provided some entertainment value in the opener. It's going to be tough to sit through five minutes of a slow-down period in future matches after they "fed the monster" every possible second in this one. (*1/2)

TNA Bound For Glory PPV Results: 10-12-08

2 -- ANGELINA LOVE & VELVET SKY & CUTE KIP vs. RHINO & ODB & RHAKA KHAN

Rhino wanted a gore on Velvet at 2:00, but Kip made the save and pushed her out of the ring to begin a game of cat and mouse. Rhino ended up in the ring with Velvet, who tried a clothesline, but Rhino ducked and Rhaka tagged herself in. Rhino wasn't too pleased, then Kip tagged in to go face-to-face with Khan. They had a double chokeslam grip, but Khan turned it into a crotch grab. Kip hopped over to the corner and tagged out to Angelina, then ODB entered the picture to work over Angelina. At 6:00, the action broke down with ODB tackling Angelina to the floor. Rhino then blocked the Fameasser from Kip and nailed the Gore for the pin and the win. Rhino then celebrated with Khan and ODB after the match.

WINNERS: Team Rhino in 6:00. Entertaining undercard match. Won't be memorable in the grand scheme of things, but served its purpose. (*)

3 -- X Division champion SHEIK ABDUL BASHIR vs. CONSEQUENCES CREED -- X Division Title match

As Daivari put the mic down, Creed charged the ring and flipped into a clothesline on Bashir to start things off. Creed then knocked Daivari to the outside before cutting a promo for Tenay and West. Back in the ring, Creed picked up a nearfall following a top rope cross-body block. Daivari then caught Creed with a boot to the gut and he went on the offensive. Everytime Creed tried to make a comeback, Daivari cut him off with a frustrating mat hold. Frustrating in a good way from the perspective of him trying to win a match, not trying to be entertaining. Creed finally made a comeback at 7:00 with a gorilla press into gutbuster across his knees, but Daivari kicked out. He followed with an enziguiri kick before pointing up top. He took way too long, allowing Daivari to crotch him. Daivari then rolled up Creed near the ropes and secured the bottom rope for a three count despite Creed actually kicking out before three. Ref didn't see the kick-out or the rope-grab, so Daivari retained.

WINNER: Daivari in 10:00 to retain the X Division Title. Good singles match. Daivari won in a heelish way to generate about as authentic of a reaction you can get from a 2008 crowd, so it worked. Creed's journey continues on Rough Cut. (**)

4 -- TNA Knockouts champion TAYLOR WILDE vs. AWESOME KONG (w/Raisha Saeed) vs. ROXXI -- Knockouts Title match

Taylor and Roxxi tried to work together early on, but their temporary alliance broke down when Roxxi flung Taylor to the outside. Kong then worked over Roxxi, but Roxxi came back with a swinging neckbreaker and running butt splash for a nearfall. Roxxi then went top and nailed a double-knee smash that took Kong off her feet for a nearfall. Kong has been knocked off her feet way too many times early on. She then got up, though, and nailed a double boot on both women that generated a few oohs from the crowd. Kong finally started to dominate with an implant buster on Roxxi, then a huge splash on Taylor for a nearfall. Kong then went up top for some reason, and Taylor knocked her off the top to the floor. Back in the ring, Taylor nailed a German Suplex with a bridge on Roxxi for the pin and the win. Kong was not particularly happy after the match.

WINNER: Taylor in 6:00 to retain the Knockouts Title. Short, but a good match. Exciting drama and some big moments from Kong, but Kong is being knocked off her feet far too many times to retain her monster image. Taylor continues to be a good champion for the Division, though. (*3/4)

TNA Bound For Glory PPV Results: 10-12-08

5 -- TNA tag team champions BEER MONEY, INC. (ROBERT ROODE & JAMES STORM w/Miss Jackie) vs. ABYSS & MATT MORGAN vs. TEAM 3D (BROTHER RAY & BROTHER DEVON) vs. LAX (HOMICIDE & HERNANDEZ) -- Monster's Ball match -- TNA Tag Title match -- Steve McMichael special referee

The bell sounded and everyone tried to jump Beer Money while the fans chanted for tables. LAX got the first round of high spots, with Homicide nailing a dive onto BMI, followed by Hernandez flying over the top rope with a big splash on Roode and Storm. Hernandez strutted a little, so Ray popped him across the back with a chair shot. Back in the ring, Homicide picked up a fork and started to stab Devon's forehead ala Abdullah the Butcher to get a stream of blood from Devon. Abyss had enough of Homicide and gave him the Shock Treatment torture rack slam. Ray then entered the ring with a cheese grater and he nailed Abyss "right in the nuts," as West called it. He then opened up Abyss with a grater shot to the forehead. McMichael was a touch slow making counts here, but he ripped away a bag of tacks from Storm when he was teasing Abyss. BMI wasn't happy with that, so Storm put the beer helmet on and told McMichael to line up for a little showdown. Roode went to the QB position behind Storm, then McMichael exploded past Storm for a big clothesline on QB Roode. Nice swim move. Homicide tried to capitalize with a pin at 10:00, but McMichael didn't see it, so Roode kicked out.

Wrestling action resumed with Morgan landing a big splash on everyone on the floor, but Morgan clutched his right arm in pain after smashing his arm into the announce table. Having been on the front row for a TNA PPV, I can vouch that there is barely any room between the ring and the table based on TNA's configuration. Ray and Devon then took apart Abyss some more on the entrance ramp, but Devon accidentally nailed Ray when Abyss ducked a right hand. Suddenly, Johnny Devine showed up and cracked a Kendo stick over Abyss's back. He returned with a table and Ray held up lighter fluid. Ray and Devon doused the table with fluid, then Devine set the table on fire. Team 3D grabbed Abyss on stage, then they threw him down through the flaming table. Only one man in TNA would be dumb enough and that insecure to take that spot. Abyss remained on fire as he rolled into the fire, so staff used the fire extinguisher on him. He was still on fire, so another round of extinguishing was necessary. Abyss then rolled away under the curtain to disappear.

At 15:00, the action picked up in the ring where Hernandez landed a huge powerbomb on Storm. McMichael took forever to make a count, so Storm easily kicked out. Homicide then nailed a top rope splash on Roode and Roode kicked out. LAX became quite frustrated with McMichael's slowness. Announcers reasoned he's been the same for everyone. Homicide then nailed the gringo cutter on Storm, but Jackie hopped on McMichael's back to stop his count. McMichael spanked Jackie out of the ring, but Morgan entered the action to kick around LAX. Crowd was not into Morgan, who was getting booed. The crowd came back to life when Hernandez came back on Morgan with a giant Border Toss. Team 3D re-entered the ring at 19:00 and gave Homicide the "what's up?" diving headbutt to the crotch. 3D wanted tables, but Hernandez took out both members of LAX with a flying clothesline. He set up a table in the ring, then threw the tacks on the table with some help from McMichael. But, 3D recovered and put Hernandez through the table with tacks. Ray took some of the tacks himself, then Storm spewed beer in his eyes. Ray was taken out of the picture, then BMI scrambled to make the cover on a lifeless Hernandez for the pin.

WINNERS: Beer Money in 22:00 to retain the TNA Tag Titles. Heck of a stunt brawl if that's your kind of thing. Fortunately, the crowd has been red-hot all night, so this came off pretty well with tons of energy. Abyss taking a mid-match flaming table spot was typical Abyss. (***1/2)

TNA Bound For Glory PPV Results: 10-12-08

6 -- BOOKER T (w/Sharmell) vs. A.J. STYLES vs. CHRISTIAN CAGE

Action moved to the floor early on, with the ref being shoved aside by Styles, which caused Styles to get nailed in the face by Booker's briefcase behind the ref's back. Back in the ring, Booker worked over Christian and nailed a spin kick for a nearfall. Nice analysis here from Tenay and West on a standard ref's cadence on a three count (following Mongo's slow count), just like the players in baseball have to adjust to the strike zone of a home plate umpire. Good way to make this seem more like a sporting event. Styles finally re-entered the deal at 6:00 and nailed a leaping fist smash on Booker. He landed a short-arm clothesline, then caught Christian in the corner with a leaping splash. Styles looked a bit wobbly, but he went into that trademark drop down, leap frog, and dropsault combo. Only, Christian flipped Styles over on the dropsault and clotheslined Booker to the floor. Styles waited for Christian to turn around, then Styles nailed the dropsault on Christian. He followed with the back flip reverse DDT on Christian for a two count. Sweet goodness from Styles. Get that man in the ring and stop the stupid "character development" for Styles and he's a star.

Booker tried an axe kick on Styles, but Styles ducked down and rolled into an armbar in center ring. Christian broke it up, though. Booker then gave Styles the book-end, but Styles kicked out at 10:00. A tower of doom was formed in the corner, then Styles shoved Booker down and wanted the spiral tap on Christian, but Christian moved. Christian and Styles talked audibly about setting up a spot, then Booker landed an axe kick on both men. But, both men kicked out of a pin. The sequence took the crowd down for a sec, but they went back to a tower of doom spot. Clunky again. Christian ended up in position for the Unprettier and he dropped Styles in the corner. Booker then came flying off the top with the axe kick on Christian and he scored the pin and the win.

WINNER: Booker in 13:00. Some really good moments in this one from Styles, who is a star when he's in the ring. The two attempted Tower of Doom spots were unnecessary and hurt the flow of the match. Could have been well above three stars, but they tried to do too much here. (***)

TNA Bound For Glory PPV Results: 10-12-08

7 -- JEFF JARRETT vs. KURT ANGLE -- Mick Foley special enforcer

Bell sounded and the fans chanted, "Thank you, Jeff." My, how things have changed from two-three years ago. Angle landed an early takedown during the feeling-out process, then Jeff recovered, only to be taken down again. Angle laughed, then Jeff went for a couple of headlocks to slow down Angle. Nice start to this one and they appear to be paced for a good 15-20 minutes tonight. The action moved to the floor at 4:00 and Jarrett landed a slingshot plancha. Angle came back with a whip into the guardrail, though, and Angle went on the offensive in the ring.

At 10:00, Angle missed with a shoulder tackle in the corner and nailed the ringpost. Jarrett then nailed a single-arm DDT and both men recovered on the mat. They came to their feet and exchanged standing right hand blows before Jarrett landed a series of decisive clotheslines for a two count. They went up top and had a battle that resulted in Jarrett landing a superplex for a close count. Jarrett then slapped on the figure four and Angle finally reached the bottom rope to get a rope break. Fans went into a dueling chant as Angle ducked a clothesline for a German suplex. He landed three of 'em, but Jarrett did the lazy shoulder-roll to "kick out."

Angle wanted the Olympic Slam at 15:00, but Jarrett rolled through into arm drag. Nice sequence with Jarrett slipping out of a back drop, but Angle slapped on the anklelock in center ring. Jarrett tried to get the ropes, but Angle kept the hold locked in. This probably looks ridiculous to an MMA fan who is accustomed to seeing guys tap in two seconds to a properly-applied anklelock. Jarrett finally flipped out of the hold, but Angle nailed the Olympic Slam for a two count. Angle went for the home run majestic moonsault, but Jarrett moved. Jarrett then sat up and gave himself a pep talk as he Hulked Up. Suddenly, ref was KO'ed on a ref bump. Jarrett then nailed the Stroke, but the ref was down. Foley instinctively jumped into the ring, though, and counted a nearfall.

Foley checked on the ref, then Angle nailed Jarrett with a low blow with Foley's back turned. Angle then went for a steel chair, but Foley said no way. Angle waited for Foley to look back at him, then he nailed Foley square in the face with a chair shot to the head. Some people never learn. Angle then went into the ring and smashed Jarrett with a chair shot to the head. Angle revived the ref as he pinned Jarrett, but Foley made a superman comeback and yanked the ref out of the ring. He then ran into the ring no-selling the chair shot and confronted Angle. Foley punched out Angle, then took out Socko from his pants and stuffed it down Angle's throat. Jarrett grabbed his guitar and then smashed it over Angle's head, causing Angle to take a lifeless flatback bump. Jarrett then made the cover and Foley counted it for the win.

WINNER: Jarrett in 20:00. Really nice match with a good story until the finish in typical Jarrett fashion. The finish didn't hurt the drama and it was fine on a relatively-clean card so far, but two clean chair shots to the head indicates some people just won't ever learn. Jarrett looked to be in great physical condition in his first match back. (****)

TNA Bound For Glory PPV Results: 10-12-08

8 -- TNA World Hvt. champion SAMOA JOE vs. STING -- TNA World Title match

Jeremy Borash was in the ring for the formal ring intros, which should give us a firm look at the fan reactions. Ref Earl Hebner was booed. No surprise. Sting, at 255 lbs., was booed a little and cheered a little. Samoa Joe, at 290 lbs., was mainly booed. The bell then sounded and both men tried to attack each other. And this quickly moved to the floor where Joe landed a flying smash following a suicide dive. Action went into the crowd where Joe dragged Sting toward the bleacher seats. They went to the very top of the first level of seating to give us a good look at the upper section completely tarped off. Joe then ran off a luxury box with a sick dropkick that took him about seven rows in the air. Sting flew down a few steps, and Joe landed on the edge of the stairs, which must have been a ridiculously hard landing. They continued to brawl all over the arena after this, then they finally made it back to ringside after five minutes of craziness.

Back in the ring, Joe worked over Sting and landed a hard chop to the chest. Sting tried to fire back, then he caught Joe with a nice tornado DDT. Sting then came off the top with a frog splash for a nearfall. Joe suddenly popped up and kicked Sting in the gut, landed a powerbomb, got a two count, and rolled right into an STF. He transferred into a crossface, but Sting escaped. Awesome sequence where Sting fired up on his feet, slapped Joe, bounced off the ropes, but Joe answered with a snap powerslam for a two count.

Joe then played to the hard camera at 10:00 instead of seizing his prey, allowing Sting to move out of the way of a corner clothesline and hit the Stinger Splash. Sting then nailed a Muscle Buster, but Joe popped up and no-sold. He popped Sting with a chop, then nailed Sting's reverse DDT. But, this time, Sting popped up and no-sold. Joe turned around and tried to tackle Sting, but Sting moved and nailed another Stinger Splash. Joe blocked a second one, though, and hit his E. Honda front slam toss. Both men recovered at 12:00, then Joe landed knee strikes. He told Earl to apply a ten-count and Joe flexed for the hard camera. Sting got up at eight, then Joe started kicking the back of his leg. He landed a hard kick to the head and Earl checked on Sting before starting another ten count. Joe became unsatisfied when Hebner reached eight, so he landed punches on Sting. Earl and Joe had a discussion, then Kevin Nash strolled out to ringside. Nash walked over to where Sting was recovering and he surveyed the situation. Joe and Earl continued to talk, then Joe finally went back on the attack.

Joe landed a DDT, then Joe and Earl continued their talk. Sting, meanwhile, grabbed the baseball bat and wanted to use it, but Nash ripped it away from Sting. Joe landed a clothesline for a nearfall, then he went for a move off the ropes, but Nash smashed (well, kinda love-tapped him) on the back. Joe stumbled down to his knees and turned around to face Nash, but Sting caught him from behind and positioned him for a reverse DDT. Sting then rolled Joe over and made the cover for the win. Afterward, Nash stoically walked up the entrance ramp with the bat over his shoulder. Sting celebrated the title victory and Joe remained motionless on the mat to close the PPV.

WINNER: Sting in 16:00 to capture the TNA World Title. This was a really good main event match...until the finishing sequence that killed the momentum. Joe and Earl having an endless debate hurt the match, then Nash turning on Joe was straight out of the WCW playbook. Look at the winners in the last three matches... Booker, Jarrett, and Sting. Throw in Nash and Foley as "winners" and you can see where this company is stuck in life 10 years ago. (***1/2)

Fine...

<high fives DA...>

Sounds like the PPV was above normal for TNA standards. Now we'll probably see a Jarrett/Sting fued for the title since Jeff had some not-to-nice things to say to Stinger and his whole 'today's wrestlers don't have any respect for the ones that paved the way' mentality.

AAA Verano de Escandalo (Part 1)

speaking of basically shitty wrestling companies, although still not as bad as TNA:

By: Xavier Hernandez
Show aired on: 10/11/2008

The announcers welcome us to the show from Guadalajara, and this is the first supercard since TripleMania. They have another nice stage for the supercard, just like WWE does for their PPVs. Video Package that hypes every match taking place during this show. This part will be the championship part, since four titles are on the line, including the most important title in the company: the AAA Heavyweight title.

*In-Ring Segment: After the fireworks (another WWE idea), Konnan arrives to the ring to complain. He says he's back to Red-Neck land, and people should be ashamed of carrying Mexican flags, since they only won three medals in the Olympics (ouch!). Konnan tells Roldan that he didn't book him again, and it was a waste, because Konnan is money guarranted. Konnan says Antonio Pena was great, not like Roldan. Konnan, Pena and Octagon made AAA, which the company that others disrespect. When he was in AAA, there were great guys in the company like Perro Aguayo Sr., Cien Caras, Blue Panther, Love Machine, Eddie Guerrero, among others. Nobody danced nor acted like a clown during that time. Konnan says there's no stars in AAA, only dancers and clowns. Konnan also claims he didn't steal Roldan's car. Joaquin Roldan arrives, to tell Konnan he didn't book him, because he didn't feel like it. Roldan tells Konnan that he always makes fun of his wrestlers, and shows Konnan a video from nay years ago. Roldan shows a video of Konnan dancing and rapping (double ouch!). The crowd wants Konnan to dance, and Konnan says that was outside the ring, and not inside. Roldan claims any dancer can tear Konnan apart. Konnan tries to attack Roldan, but he's kicked out by the bodyguards. Roldan thanks the crowd and leaves. (Very long segments, but Konnan made some good points).

1) AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship
El Apache & Mari Apache (c) vs. El Oriental & Cinthia Moreno
Seconds: Fabi Apache & La Diabolica

-First Fall: Oriental and Apache open up with basic submission holds. Oriental uses aerial moves to take both Apaches down. Oriental kisses her Mari, and hits a Moonsault on Apache. Spinning Heel Kick by Mari on Cinthia for a two. Cinthia does a Diving Silla to take Mari out. Both men return to technical moves. The Morenos try simultaneous Casitas, but the champions kick out. The Apaches start the comeback, but the Morenos hit Frankensteiners on both Apaches. Apache tries a Powerbomb, but Cinthia counters into La Rueca, and Mari makes the save. Diabolica hits Mari with a chair, and Fabi goes after her. Both teams apply many double team maneuvers on each other. Cinthia hits a Diving Crossbody on Mari to the outside. Apache tries another Powerbomb, but Diabolica kicks him. Fabi interferes, but she accidentally hits Apache with a chair. Oriental makes the cover, and we have new champs.

Winners and NEW Mixed Tag Team Champions: El Oriental & Cinthia Moreno

-Aftermath: The Morenos celebrate, and use the belts to attack the Apaches. Backstage, Apache tells Fabi not to worry. They only lost a battle, but not the war. Fabi feels bad, because she wanted to take revenge on what Oriental did to her last week. Apache says they are still the best, despite the title loss.

*Noti AAA:
-They actually showed the winner of the AAA website trivia, and he earned tickets for VdE.
-The Antonio Pena Memorial show will take place during October. The show will include the matches that Pena "supposedly" created.
-AAA thanks the fans for the sucess of VdE

2) AAA World Mini Championship (Tournament Finals)
Octagoncito vs. Mini Abismo Negro vs. Mini Charlie Manson
Seconds: Mascarita Sagrada, Mini Histeria & Mini Chessman

-First Fall: Manson and Octagoncito double team Abismo. Manson hits a Srpingboard Plancha on Abismo, but Octagoncito breaks the pin. Octaggoncito tosses Manson out of the ring, but Abismo superkicks him. Manson returns to attack Abismo. German Suplex by Manson on Abismo, but Octagoncito breaks again. Sick spot, when Octagoncito tries a Superplex on Abismo, but Manson powerbombs him, for a double impact. Abismo lands outisde, and Manson hits a Springboard Plancha on him. Octagoncito also hits a top rope Moonsailt on Manson. Abismo actaully did a double German Suplex on both Octagoncito and Manson. The referee is distracted by Sagrada. Histeria takes advantage to kick Octagoncito in the face, and Abismo pins Octagoncito with another German Suplex. The referee orders both Sagrada and Octagoncito to leave the ring. The referee is distracted again, and Histeria joins in to help Abismo. Chessman complains, and Abismo attacks him. The tecnicos return to clean house with the heels. In the ring, Manson pins Abismo with a Small Package.

Winner and NEW Mini Champion: Mini Charlie Manson

-Aftermath: Abismo says he was defeated by the referee, and not by Manson. Abismo demands another shot at the title, and wants Manson to beat him clean.

3) AAA World Tag Team Championship (Ladder Match)
Halloween & Extreme Tiger (c) vs. Joe Lider & Nicho El Millonario vs. Teddy Hart & Jack Evans vs. Crazy Boy & Ultimo Gladiador
Seconds: Nikki (only for the Hart Foundation)

-First Fall: Four guys start the match, and they attack each other. During the first few minutes, every man uses moves from their arsenal, avoiding ladders. The dives begin, and both americans use springboard maneuvers to attack. The MPs start using ladders, when they hit Hart's ribs with one. The MPs try to climb, but the Tijuanas stop them. The Hermandad also uses the ladder to hit Halloween's ribs and face. Tiger is tossed into a ladder by the Hermandad. Hart is set on the barricade, and Tiger hits Air Tijuana to take out the american. The MPs try to climb again, but Lider stops them again. Lider sets a ladder across Crazy's ribs, and hits a dropkick on him. A ladder is placed between the apron and the barricade, to form a bridge. The Hermandad slams Halloween in the bridge, breaking the ladder. Tiger comes out of nowhere with a clean Hilo on Lider. Another bridge is made, and both Gladiador and Lider collapse in it. Nicho lands on a table, and Tiger hits a 450 Splash on Nicho, through the table. Crazy climbs the ladder, but Halloween spears him in mid-air. Lider sets a chair across Halloween's neck, and jumps off the ladder to kick Halloween. Lider climbs the ladder and retrieves both belts.

Winners and NEW Tag Team Champions: Joe Lider & Nicho El Millonario

-Aftermath: The Hermandad say it was justa matter of time before the belts landed with the true and original hardcore/extreme wrestlers. 187!

4) AAA World Heavyweight Championship
Cibernetico (c) vs. Chessman
Seconds: None

-First Fall: Both men open with basic submission holds. Ciber suplexes Chessman, for a two count. Chessman begins to pucnh Cibernetico's forehead. Chessman brings a table, and sets it in one of the ring corners. Chessman sets another table, but at ringside. Chessman continues to deliver hard punches all over Ciber's body. Ciber makes the comeback with hard strikes and a Stunner. Ciber tries another Stunner, but Chessman counters and spears Ciber through the cornered table. Chessman covers, but Ciber kicks out. Ciber starts another comeback, but Chessman targets the knee of Ciber. Chessman tries to suplex Ciber through a second table, but Ciber blocks. Ciber jumps off the top and hits another Stunner on Chessman, which makes him land on the outside table. Chessman returns before the count of the referee. Chessman delivers another Superkick, and starts punching Ciber. Mesias arrives to distract Chessman, and Ciber capitalizes on the distraction to hit the CiberChokeslam on Chessman. Three count, and it's over.

Winner and STILL AAA Heavyweight champion: Cibernetico

-Aftermath: Mesias gets in the ring, and simply stares at Cibernetico. Mesias takes the title away from Ciber to look at it, and gives it back at Ciber.

FINAL COMMNETS: Overall, a good show. Not great, but it was somewhat entertaining. The mixed match was a decent opener, but the match that stole the show was the Minis match. It was just phenomenal, and hopefully AAA continues to book these kinf od matches. The ladder match was OK, because we had the usal teams, doing the same botched spots,a dn there's nothing else to it. The Harts should be champions, and not the Hermandad, but that's my opinion. The main event was also OK, and Mesias' intervention adds more to the feud.

What really bothered me was the announcers. They basically put AAA over big time for "delivering dynamic, unique and entertainig matches". They also said that "other companies are boring, and they try to copy AAA". They did this throughout the entire show. Well as a lucha fan, I believe that AAA is not a Lucha Libre company, but a wrestling company. Just look at the segment of Konnan, I felt like I was watching Monday Night RAW but in spanish. That's why I always support the traditional style of lucha, which can only be seen in one company (CMLL). It's just my opinion, and everyone may have different views.

Next week, it's part two of VdE, which will include Mesias and Vampiro inside a Steel Cage, and the return of another wrestler.

Feedback is always welcomed at elcidphoenix88_spainful@hotmail.com

Thanks!!!

TemJin's Comments: even tho i don't have the channel to watch CMLL, i still have to agree that AAA has booking that leaves alot to be desired and put themselves over like TNA, meaning they think they are the end all to be all when it comes to wrestling programs. WWE does this too, but at least they actually put together an great show and come off more professional. i know i'm preaching to the choir, but i just hate when wrestling promotions get all arrogant as such.

WWE RAW Results: 10-13-08

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- ECW champion MATT HARDY & REY MYSTERIO vs. MARK HENRY & KANE

Hardy and Henry started things off, with Hardy losing control early on. The heels worked over Hardy for a few minutes before Rey accepted a hot tag at 4:00. He knocked Henry off the ring apron, then kicked Kane in the face before snapping off a head scissors. Rey then dialed up the 619 and connected. On the floor, they repeated the spot from ECW where Henry caught Hardy in mid-air. But, this time, Rey came flying off the apron and sat on Hardy to push him down onto Henry. After a big collision, Hardy beat Henry up the entrance ramp to the back. Back in the ring, Rey tried a top rope splash, but Kane straight punted him in the gut to knock the wind out of Rey and the fans. Kane then made the cover for the win.

Afterward, Kane wanted to inflict more punishment, but Rey slipped out of a chokeslam and dropkicked Kane through the ropes to the floor. Kane and Rey then had a staredown to end the segment.

WINNERS: Kane & Henry in 6:00. Fine match playing off the recent ECW TV match. Kane continues to show he has smarts to go with being an overpowering big man. (*)

2 -- JBL vs. HAAS HOGAN

Bell sounded after Haas ripped off his t-shirt, then JBL started working him over. Haas suddenly Haased up and did the "you!" point before blocking right hands and nailing a big boot. Haas tried the leg drop, but JBL moved and smashed Haas with the Clothesline from Hell. Lawler said he might have broken his hip. JBL with the cover for the easy win.

WINNER: JBL in 2:00. Eh. The joke worked slightly in So Cal, but JBL is going nowhere right now and Haas's bit is on the verge of getting old. (n/a)

3 -- SHAWN MICHAELS vs. BATISTA -- heel lumberjack match

They returned with the action in progress as the heels looked on. Batista teased a powerbomb at 1:00, but Michaels slipped to the floor and accepted a blow from a lumberjack. Michaels then slipped back into the ring and dropped Batista on the mat to slap on a figure four. They showed Jericho standing in his locker room watching as Batista powered out of the figure four. Both men slowly recovered, then Michaels nailed a swinging neckbreaker. Batista came back with a powerslam at 3:00, then he grounded Michaels on the mat with a rear naked choke.

They rolled to the top of the second hour with Michaels struggling out of the choke. Batista then gave him a high back body drop before settling into another mathold. Cole took us back to a few months ago when the Michaels vs. Jericho feud was born out of the Michaels vs. Batista feud that came out of WrestleMania. Good acknowledgement of history from Cole tonight. Batista then took Michaels to his feet and nailed a series of clean blows to the lower back. They blew a corner spot, then Michaels got a boot up on a corner whip and rolled up Batista for a two count. Just noticed Randy Orton is ringside for this. Michaels was then tossed over the top rope, but he skinned the cat back into the ring where Batista nailed the Black Hole Slam on the injured back for a nearfall.

At 10:00, Batista stalked his prey and clotheslined him hard over the top rope. Bam Neely wanted a piece of Michaels, but Henry shoved Bam aside and put Michaels in a vicious bear hug. He then rolled Michaels back into the ring where Batista made a cover for a nearfall. Things have been just a bit off thus far. Let's get a break.

They returned with Batista clutching Michaels in a bear hug. Michaels escaped, then he side-stepped Batista to fling him to the outside. Orton desperately wanted to punt Batista in the head, but Batista moved just in time and he fought off Atlas to get back into the ring. Michaels wanted to nail a top rope move on Batista, but JBL attacked Michaels with the ref distracted by another jack. Batista and Michaels recovered on the mat, then Batista nailed a spinebuster at 15:00. he wanted to end it with the Bomb, but Michaels punched out and flipped Batista to the floor. The jacks pounced on both men to assault them, but both men fought them off. Suddenly, they entered the ring and the ref called for the bell.

Batista and Michaels fended off the heels, then JBL snuck up behind Batista. But, Michaels went right past Batista and superkicked JBL in the corner. Henry tried to sneak up on Michaels, but Batista went right past Michaels to spear Henry hard in the corner. Michaels and Batista then recovered in neutral corners while Jericho was shown frustrated in his locker room. After highlights aired on the match, Batista locked eyes with Michaels and Michaels questioned whether the spear was for him. Batista then extended his hand and Michaels hesitated before shaking. Michaels winced, then dipped out of the ring while Batista mulled his options on who he would pick to face Jericho tonight.

WINNER: No Contest in 15:00. Hard to be upset with the non-finish when it was 100 percent clear this was ending without a clean finish. Nice tension between Michaels and Batista, but there was just something off with this entire thing. Crowd couldn't really get into the action with the cast of thousand generic heels ringside blocking the action. (**)

4 -- KELLY KELLY & CRYME TYME (SHAD GASPAR & J.T.G.) vs. JILLIAN HALL & THE MIZ & JOHN MORRISON

Kelly started things off working on Jillian, then Jillian tagged out to Miz, meaning Kelly had to tag out. JTG came in, but Jillian screamed in his ear, causing a distraction. Miz and Morrison then went to work on JTG in their corner. Shad took a hot tag at 4:00, then the action broke down. In the interim, JTG picked up the Ducks mask and cracked it over Morrison's back. Shad then made the cover for the pin and the win.

WINNERS: Cryme Tyme & Kelly in 5:00. The sad reality of this is that most of the demo in WWE Universe has no idea what JTG was referring to with the Mighty Ducks series of classic movies that inspired a generation of youths to overcome all odds, rise to greatness, and play for a coach with a police record. (1/2*)

5 -- World Hvt. champion CHRIS JERICHO vs. C.M. PUNK -- non-title match -- Batista special referee

After Jericho argued with Batista, Punk tried to roll him up, but Jericho kicked out. See, with a babyface referee, it makes sense for him not to just call a three count because he wants to see the heel take a beating. And he is a man of virtue and dignity. Jericho tried to escape, but Batista dragged Jericho back into the ring and fed him to Punk. Jericho was locked up in the ropes for a good while as Batista let Punk get away with more than a five count.

Jericho came back with a leg trip as Punk stood on the top rope, then Jericho went on the offensive while trading verbal jabs with Batista, who simply smiled at him. Punk then side-stepped Jericho in the corner and nailed a series of kicks to build momentum. He nailed the high knee and bulldog combo, then wanted the G2S, but Jericho elbowed out and nailed the codebreaker in center ring. Jericho then made the cover, but Batista suddenly had something in his eye. He stopped his count, then Jericho argued and took a Batistabomb for good measure. Punk then took advantage and rolled on top of Jericho for the easiest pinfall of his career.

Afterward, Batista raised Punk's hand in victory, then he moved to the stage for a big laugh at Jericho's expense. They replayed the ending, then Cole signed off as Jericho tried to collect himself in the ring.

WINNER: Punk in 6:00. Eh. Sent the (unenthusiastic) crowd home happy, but it fed into that sucks-to-be-you babyface booking that is far too pervasive in wrestling these days. Punk didn't gain much here other than a TV main event slot. Jericho was taken down a notch and that doesn't help selling an "off-brand" PPV in eight days. (*1/2)
