ECW on Sci-Fi Results: 9-2-08

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- SUPER CRAZY vs. GAVIN SPEARS

They took it slow allowing plenty of time for Striker to enhance the match. Crazy escaped Gavin's heel mat work and landed a flying kick to the face that wobbled Spears. Crazy mounted his attack, then came off the middle rope with a springboard moonsault for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Crazy in 4:00 over the disillusioned crown jewel. Just fine for Crazy. Apparently Gavin's gimmick is that he sucks, but he thinks he's hot stuff. (1/2*)

2 -- RICKY ORTIZ vs. BRIAN BRADDOCK

Grisham self-deprecated early on here, saying Braddock brushed him aside earlier in the day when Grisham was looking for info for the broadcast. Striker said he got a word with Braddock, who said he's looking to impress any GM in WWE. The deal slowed down into bowling-shoe ugly, which is how Braddock likes it. A few fans started waving the rally towels to inspire Ricky's comeback and he snapped off a swinging powerslam for a nearfall. Ortiz then asked for the towels and he landed the Big O splash off the ropes for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Ortiz in 5:00 long minutes. Ortiz is a perfect 5-0 now. Not exactly impressive, though. Still learning in the ring and trying to get the towel gimmick going. (3/4*)

3 -- ECW champion MARK HENRY (w/Tony Atlas) & THE MIZ & JOHN MORRISON & CHAVO GUERRERO (w/Bam Neely) vs. MATT HARDY & EVAN BOURNE & TOMMY DREAMER & FINLAY (w/Hornswoggle)

Action broke down on the outside with Bam getting his from Finlay and Hornswoggle. Apparently that's all Bam is good for these days. They cut to break.

Bourne showed off out of the break, but Henry took a tag and decided to make dinner out of Bourne. The heels then took turns working over Bourne in their corner. Bourne took a nice, long beating before finally landing a head scissors on Chavo to make the tag to Dreamer, who cleaned house. After Henry smashed Dreamer to build another round of heel isolation, Hardy took a hot tag to work on Chavo, who countered with a Northern's Light Suplex to set up Henry for work on Hardy.

Henry missed with a big splash, though, and Bourne came off the top rope with a sick Shooting Star Press on Henry. And I mean sick. He then smashed Miz with the Shining Wizard. Dreamer then tagged in and splashed Henry from the top rope. Goodness, it's broken down. Finlay with a running rear-end splash on Henry's chest, then Hardy got the final hot tag, knocked Atlas off the ring apron, and gave Henry the Twist of Fate. Hardy covered Henry for the win as the crowd went crazy. The babyfaces got their shine in the ring as they replayed Bourne's SSP, then Henry was showing trying to recover with Atlas to close the show.

WINNERS: Team Hardy in 14:00. Excellent conclusion to get the viewers excited for Unforgiven on Sunday. Bourne's Shooting Star Press was just sick and the easy highlight of the night. Nice match. (**)

god, it's so weird that i now look forward to ECW every week. it's all Matt Sydal...errr i mean Evan Bourne's fault. add in Miz-Morrison and Matt Hardy, and you've finally got a good wrestling program. :buttrock:

Mick Foley talks about life after WWE

Mick Foley called in to the "Opie and Anthony" XM radio show on Friday to wish show personality "Prime Time" Sam Roberts a happy birthday. He ended up discussing his departure from WWE and confirmed that getting yelled at by Vince McMahon through the headsets during the Smackdown tapings got to him.

Mick said the tension had been building for weeks and added that the final straw came during the Edge and Vickie Guerrero wedding. Foley said the wedding singers had been going on for nearly three minutes when he decided to say, "What a special moment." VInce got upset and yelled, "Layout damn it!" Foley said he wanted to walk out of the building at that moment.

Foley said he spoke to JBL, who told him that the job doesn't get any easier. Mick said he was actually told by several people that Vince was nicer to him than anyone else who had the job. Foley also acknowledged that he was informed that his bio had been removed from the alumni section at WWE.com, and said he's been pulled from the "Legends of WrestleMania" video game.

The move to TNA was discussed and that hosts gave him a hard time about working for a company that nobody watches. He told them he could show up anytime. When they pushed for a date, he said he'd debut in three weeks. He may have misspoke when he said, "I'm gonna be in Long Island..." and then corrected himself and said TNA would be in Long Island this weekend. He also claimed they haven't figured out what he's going to do for his debut appearance.

TNA Impact! Results: 9-4-08

Results courtesy of ProWrestling.net (direct link to Twilling's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1. Consequences Creed defeated Sheik Abdul Bashir in a number one contender's match for the X-Division championship in 3:35. The crowd was hot for this match; they cheered loudly for Creed and booed just as loudly for Bashir. Creed missed a splash in the corner and Bashir rolled him up using the ropes for the win. The referee restarted the match and Creed quickly won the match...

After the match, Bashir attacked the referee and he came back to kick the shit out of Bashir. Shane Sewell looks better throwing punches than counting falls...

Twill's Two Cents: I hate restarts. They seem to be going down the road of the establishment screwing over Bashir.

2. Beer Money Inc. (with Jacqueline) defeated Shark Boy and Super Eric in a non-title match in 2:18. Curry Man was supposed to come out, but he was being distracted by Christy Hemme backstage. During the match, they cut back to Christy and Curry, where the Rock 'N Rave Infection attacked Curry Man. Storm and Roode scored the win after the Last Call and Payoff...

LAX's music hit and Hernandez cleared Beer Money from the ring. Homicide, with an eye patch, threw Beer Money into the ring. Both members of LAX laid out Beer Money before celebrating with Hector Guerrero and Salinas...

3. Abyss vs. Johnny Devine ended in a no contest in 2:00. Abyss was easily distracted by Team 3D and Devine tried to take advantage. Abyss hit a chokeslam and picked up a chair. He was going to use it but decided against it. Team 3D hit the ring and beat on Abyss. Matt Morgan hit the ring to run off Team 3D...

4. ODB defeated Raisha Saeed in 3:53. Both women fought on the floor before finally entering the ring. Saeed dropkicked ODB back to the floor. Saeed missed a moonsault and ODB followed up with a fallaway slam. She took a drink and hit a powerslam for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: I am not a huge fan of ODB but both women looked good here.

5. Christian Cage defeated A.J. Styles in a Four Ways to Glory qualifier in 12:33. Things started slowly but picked up at the ninety second mark. In a sick spot, Styles tried a springboard but Cage pushed Styles' leg away, causing him to fall awkwardly on the top rope. Cage then missed a move to the floor. Styles followed with a hurricarana...

Cage hit a reverse neckbreaker for a nearfall coming back from commercial. Styles hit the moonsault inverted DDT for a very close nearfall. Both men exchanged right hands before Styles hit a huge dropkick following an Irish whip sequence. Cage hit a closeline and missed a frogsplash.

Styles went for the Styles Clash but Cage countered into an Unprettier attempt. Styles hit the Pele kick. Both men fought to the top rope. Cage pushed Styles off and immediately followed in with a frogsplash, almost literally in one motion, for a two count.

Cage went to the top again and Styles backdropped him to the mat. He tried and missed the Spiral Tap. Cage went for the Unprettier again but Styles pushed Cage into the referee. Frank Trigg hit the ring and nailed Styles with a kendo stick. Cage hit the Unprettier for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Great match but that was expected. I do not love the finish but given the setup, someone had to lose.

WWE Smackdown Results: 9-5-08

Results courtesy of ProWrestling.net (direct link to Powell's complete report). Condensed to in-ring results only.

1. R-Truth beat Bam Neely (w/Chavo Guerrero) in 2:15. Killings hollered, "What's Up?" early in the match and got a loud "What's Up?" response from the crowd. Neely mocked him moments later and the live crowd booed. Killings finished off Neely with the scissors kick for the win.

Powell's POV: Either this match wasn't included in the match listing sent by our correspondent or I simply missed it when I put together the preview for today's show, so this was a nice surprise.

2. Shelton Benjamin pinned MVP in a non-title match in 3:45. Before the match, a brief Shelton promo aired on the big screen. In the end, Shelton hit Paydirt out of nowhere and scored the clean pin...

Powell's POV: Nothing memorable about this match, not that they were given much time. They're really going above and beyond to get Shelton over.

3. Maryse pinned Maria in 2:55. Back and forth action during the opening minute, but Maryse is getting the title shot on Sunday so she dominated down the stretch and finished off Maria with a DDT. Afterward, Michelle McCool walked out and stood face-to-face with Maryse on the stage...

Powell's POV: The match wasn't pretty, but Maryse didn't seem so phony with her mannerisms this week. She came across like the unlikable bitch they want her to. Big improvement from the going through the motions looks she flashed last week.

4. The Brian Kendrick (w/Ezekiel Jackson) defeated Jeff Hardy in 4:55. Ross spent some time trying to establish Zeke as the X factor that could help Kendrick win the title on Sunday. Kendrick got some offense in and bumped all over for Hardy. At one point, Hardy hit him with a reverse powerbomb-like move. Hardy was in control of the match when the action spilled to ringside and Zeke grabbed Hardy from behind and slammed him into the guardrail. Moments later, Kendrick hit The Kendrick for the win...

Powell's POV: Very nice job of building up Kendrick heading into Sunday's pay-per-view.

5. Super Crazy pinned Ryan Braddock in 1:20. Back and forth action until Crazy hit a quick moonsault and scored the pin.

Powell's POV: I'm always happy to see Crazy win a match because he's been underutilized in WWE for too long. However, I think Braddock has a good look and could be a player in WWE in the future, so I'm surprised they're treating him like a glorified jobber.

6. Brie Bella beat Victoria in 2:45. Same gimmick as last week. Victoria was in control of the match when Brie crawled under the ring. When she out from underneath the ring, she came back "invigorated" and rolled up Victoria for the win...

7. Triple H pinned Great Khali (w/Runjin Singh) in a lumberjack match in 9:55. Hardy, MVP, Shelton, Kendrick, and Ezekiel served as the lumberjacks. Hunter was tossed to ringside about a minute into the match. The heels at ringside laid the boots to him while Hardy stood and watched. [C] Khali continued to dominate with help from the heels at ringside. He hit a Khali Bomb for a nearfall.

Later, the heels were putting the boots to Hunter at ringside again when Hardy flipped over the top rope onto them. Hunter made a brief comeback, but was eventually locked in the Khali Vice. The announcers noted that everyone who has taken the move had fallen victim to it in the past. Hunter broke free. Moments later, he hit the Pedigree and scored the clean pin.

After the match, Hardy entered the ring and applauded Hunter, who patted him on the shoulder and thanked him. As Hunter was walking away, Hardy spun him around, kicked him in the gut, and hit the Twist of Fate. Hardy stood over Hunter to close the show...

Powell's POV: Good finish that established Hunter and Hardy won't be working as a bayface team against all the heels on Sunday.

Mick Foley appears at a TNA event

Mick Foley made his first appearance at a TNA event at tonight's house show in Long Island, N.Y. at the Capital One Bank Theater. Newsday reports tonight that just before the main event, Jeremy Borash teased a Foley appearance. The crowd cheered for Foley, who walked out dressed in black with a leather vest and slapped hands with the fans.

He said this was the second time his entire family has attended a wrestling event. He asked the fans to cheer their names. Then he said: "Thank you so much. I would not be here if I didn't believe in this company, I love the show and I'm looking to hopefully make a huge impact on TNA."

A reminder that the WWE Unforgiven PPV starts at 8 pm EDT / 5 PM PDT. Because of the uniqueness of the Championship Scramble matches, real-time reports may not be posted by me in the usual manner as the typical PPV reports I do. I'll play it by ear and decide whether to try and report them as they happen or wait until the show's over. In any event, those who want to post what happened and who won, please feel free to do such. Thank You.

WWE Unforgiven PPV Results: 9-7-08

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's real-time report).

1 -- ECW TITLE SCRAMBLE MATCH -- 20-minute time limit

Striker let us know that Pat Patterson came up with the Championship Scramble concept match, which he claimed we will enjoy for some time. In the first five minutes, Hardy and Miz exchanged control, then Miz hit the Reality Check, but Hardy rolled to the floor to avoid a pin.

At 5:00, Chavo Guerrero entered the ring and quickly dumped Miz to the floor. He then went up top and nailed the frog splash on Hardy to become the current ECW champion. Hardy then went on a tear and nailed the Twist of Fate on Miz to score a pinfall to become the current ECW champion. Chavo was knocked to the outside, then Hardy went to work on Miz.

At 10:00, the ECW champion entering the match, Mark Henry, came out ready to take out the trash. Henry quickly gave Chavo a big front slam and made the quick cover to re-capture his ECW Title. Miz wanted a piece, but Henry lifted him up into the air for a big slam. Henry then worked over Hardy leading up to the final five minutes.

At 15:00, Finlay sprinted to the ring with Hornswoggle, who quickly slid underneath the ring. Finlay worked over Henry with a flurry of offense and scored a few nearfalls. Henry wrapped him up in the bear hug, though, until Hornswoggle ran into the ring to run distraction. Finlay then landed a shillelagh shot to the head on Henry. Finlay and Hardy then dumped Henry over the top rope. Finlay turned on Hardy, though, and picked up the Celtic Cross for a pin to capture the ECW Title. Suddenly, Hardy came to life and nailed a Twist of Fate on Miz to score a pin to become ECW champion.

With 3:00 on the clock, Hardy waited for Henry to get into the ring. The action broke down with Hardy trying to play "fireman" of breaking up pinfalls as the current champion. Of note, Miz was bleeding profusely from the left eye at this point. Hardy continued to break up pins with 35 seconds left, then he dumped folks out of the ring. And time finally expired with the men in desperation mode to score a pin, giving the ECW Title to Matt Hardy.

WINNER: Hardy in 20:00 to capture the ECW Title. Well, it had its moments, but it came across like a pretty cheap way for Hardy to capture the belt. At least it will set up the Henry vs. Hardy return match where Atlas can't interfere or else he'll cost Henry the title. (*1/2)

2 -- World tag team champions CODY RHODES & TED DIBIASE, JR. vs. CRYME TYME (SHAD GASPAR & J.T.G.) -- World Tag Title match

Oh my, Michael Cole said pro wrestling on a WWE broadcast. Deal is that Cody Rhodes has "Prince of pro wrestling" on his new black trunks. Cryme Tyme quickly started the match with a double-team maneuver of Shad chucking JTG over the top rope onto the champs, who were regrouping on the floor. After the champs worked over CT for 10 minutes, Shad took a hot tag and the action broke down. Cody surprised Shad with a DDT behind the ref's back, then DiBiase rolled on top of Shad for a pin, but Shad managed to get a foot on the bottom rope.

Cody demanded a tag, then he lined up Shad for a boot to the head, but Shad popped to his feet and nailed a clothesline. JTG then took a tag and the action broke down again. JTG had Cody rolled up, but DiBiase wisely reversed the leverage to push Cody on top of JTG for the pin and the win to retain the tag titles. Cody and Ted then pulled an A.J. Styles and couldn't take their win without having to brag in front of Cryme Tyme. A brawl broke out, then a new Wild Samoan stormed the ring to back up Cody and Teddy. They cleared Cryme Tyme to stand tall. Looks like another second-generation wrestler joining the stable.

WINNERS: Rhodes & DiBiase in 12:00. Slow-paced match that was heavy on Rhodes and DiBiase working on JTG, as expected. Just fine, but not memorable other than the post-match debut. (*1/2)

3 -- CHRIS JERICHO vs. SHAWN MICHAELS -- Unsanctioned match

Lillian Garcia announced ahead of time that both Jericho and Michaels have signed a Hold Harmless agreement with neither man nor WWE held responsible for anything that occurs tonight. As Michaels came to the ring after Jericho, Cole said that Michaels told him to look up Joshua 6:20 from the Bible, which says the Walls of Jericho are coming down. Michaels charged the ring to start things off and he quickly used his boot as a weapon while wincing in pain from his arm injury. They spilled to the outside and into the front row with Jericho coming up bleeding from the nose. Michaels then went for a chair shot to the head, but Jericho ducked and started his offensive attack. Jericho landed a DDT on the floor, then he took Michaels into the ring for a chair shot to the back.

Michaels then made his comeback at 9:00 with a big flying elbow smash from the top rope from a pretty good distance. Michaels tuned up the band at 10:00, but he stopped short and said that's not good enough. Michaels then punched away at Jericho's head before landing successive elbow smashes to the back of the head. He slapped on a Crossface, but Jericho lifted him in the air to fling Michaels into a chair wedged in the turnbuckles. Jericho began his attack, focusing on the previously injured eye. Jericho nailed successive right hand blows to the face, then slapped on the Walls of Jericho. Michaels wanted a rope break, but there is no break in an Unsanctioned match. Suddenly, Michaels found a fire extinguisher while in the hold and sprayed Jericho in the eyes to break the hold.

Michaels then used the extinguisher as a weapon to knock Jericho to the floor where he rammed him into the guardrail on the entrance ramp. Suddenly, Lance Cade came running down the ramp and Michaels blasted him with right hand blows. Michaels then blasted Jericho with a running fist smash near the ring. Cade wasn't done, though, and he came back with a jab to the injured triceps before clotheslining Michaels on the entrance ramp. Jericho and Cade then tried to inflict direct punishment on the injured part. Michaels was great selling the injury and drawing sympathy here. Jericho and Cade then set up Michaels's triceps inside a chair, but Michaels kicked Cade away, causing Jericho to be crotched. Cade tried to charge Michaels, but Michaels smashed him with Sweet Chin Music at 20:00.

Michaels picked up the chair, then he smashed Jericho in the face and Jericho fell off the top turnbuckle through the table on the floor below. Fortunately, Jericho got his hands up to absorb the blow of a chair to the head. His wrists are going to be hurting, though. Michaels went to the floor and used his one good arm to swing the chair repeatedly into Jericho's body. Michaels, enraged, then placed Jericho and Cade on top of the Raw announce table. Michaels went back into the ring, then climbed up top. He measured both men, then came flying off the top with an elbow smash onto both men through the table. Michaels came up with fire pounding his chest, then he sat down against the ring starting to cry as Cole called the intense moment.

Back in the ring at 25:00, Michaels took off his belt and circled around Jericho after dragging him back into the ring. Michaels whipped Jericho across the back several times as Lawler made a point of Michaels trying to think of what else he could do to inflict more punishment on Jericho. Michaels then walked over and knelt down by Jericho. It was almost a compassionate hug, but then he wrapped Jericho's arms in a way where he couldn't defend himself and smashed Jericho with repeated right hand blows to the head. Michaels paused, then he went back for more landing more left hand blows to the point of the ref calling for the bell with Jericho completely out cold.

After Lillian Garcia announced Michaels as the winner, Michaels stepped back to look at Jericho's lifeless body. Nearly in tears, Michaels went back for more blows to Jericho's head. Ref pulled him away, but Michaels remained in the ring. He then gave ref Marty the Sweet Chin Music. Michaels convulsed, then several refs stormed the ring to separate Michaels from Jericho, who remained out cold. Michaels then dropped down to his knees and stared at the scene before him with a bewildered look of passion mixed with remorse. Michaels's music hit as medics checked on Jericho, who wasn't moving. More tight camera shots of Michaels's torn soul appearing on his countenance. After they replayed the finish, Michaels was shown leaving the ring while looking back to his work in the ring.

WINNER: Michaels via ref stoppage in 28:00. What a story. Just right in line with TV, as the story didn't follow a traditional pro wrestling storyline, but it was at a higher level in terms of psychology and intensity. Tough to rate this one based on traditional wrestling standards, but the story was so advanced that it will be remembered at the end of the year. (****1/2)

4 -- WWE TITLE SCRAMBLE MATCH

Jeff Hardy and U.S. champion Shelton Benjamin started off Smackdown's scramble match for the WWE Title. Plenty of leverage pin attempts early on, but no pinfall for either man. The Brian Kendrick, along with Ezekiel, came out as the third man in the match. TBK took his sweet time entering the fray, which showed his higher level of intelligence. Hardy and TBK had a battle once Kendrick entered the ring, and Hardy busted out a sick reverse-flip powerbomb on Kendrick to score a pin to become current WWE champion.

Just before 10:00, TBK returned the favor by nailing Sliced Bread #2 on Jeff Hardy to become current WWE champion. Kendrick celebrated, then MVP came out as the fourth man in the ring. TBK and Hardy were quickly dumped to the floor, setting up MVP and Shelton to battle in the ring. MVP wanted the drive-by on Shelton, but TBK came out of nowhere with a sick high-kick on MVP that popped the crowd. Hardy then stacked up MVP and Shelton in the corner for the double-foot thrust kick on both men.

And at 15:00, it was time to play The Game against The Brian Kendrick as the current WWE champion. Hunter cleaned house, then he dropped TBK with a big Double A spinebuster in center ring. After dumping MVP to the floor, Hunter measured Kendrick for the Pedigree and connected. He quickly rolled over Kendrick and picked up the pin with 4 minutes remaining. Hunter and Shelton ended up on the outside, allowing Jeff to nail the Twist of Fate on MVP at 2:50 to pick up the pin and become current WWE champion.

Hardy then went up top, but Hunter crotched Hardy on the top turnbuckle. Hunter then quickly picked up TBK and gave him the Pedigree a second time for another pin to become WWE champion at 2:00. Meanwhile, Hardy with the Swanton on TBK to pick up the pin behind Hunter's back. Hunter wanted a Pedigree on Hardy, but Hardy dumped Hunter to the floor. Hardy splashed Hunter on the floor with 1:15 left.

Back in the ring with 1:00 left, MVP and Kendrick battled. Suddenly, oh my, Shelton did a cat leap over MVP onto Kendrick for a big Tower of Doom spot. Hardy then slipped into the ring and gave MVP the Whisper in the Wind. He then nailed Shelton with the Swanton with 20 seconds left. Hunter re-emerged with 15 seconds left and nailed the Pedigree on MVP, but he couldn't make a cover. He then made the cover while Hardy stared at him. Instead of breaking up the pin, Hardy tried to cover Shelton and Hunter picked up the pin on MVP with one second left to retain the WWE Title.

Afterward, Hunter called Jeff's name and brought him to center ring. Hardy said he was right there, then Hunter told him he was that close. Hardy wanted a handshake and Hunter quickly shook his hand before leaving the ring. Ross and Tazz narrated a replay of the finish with the announcers trying to cover for Jeff that he was hurt after the Swanton Bomb and couldn't break up Hunter's pin. They showed Hardy kneeling in the ring in thought about how close he was to the win.

WINNER: Hunter in 20:00 to retain the WWE Title. Very nice concept match. Kendrick has a star-making performance despite the near-comedic double Pedigrees from Hunter, while the focus on Hardy created a nice moment for Hardy to continue his journey toward the WWE Title. Really nicely done with a good dose of athleticism, fresh faces, and close action. (***1/2)

5 -- Divas champion MICHELLE MCCOOL vs. MARYSE -- Smackdown divas match

Match moved to the floor early on, then Maryse dumped Michelle over the guardrail to the floor. She made one guy's day - or possibly life - by touching the guy's leg to help herself back to her feet. Back in the ring, Maryse went after the left knee with a chopblock before showing off her healthy hair in a heelish way. Maryse continued her attack until Michelle landed a foot to the face for a nearfall. Michelle tried a suplex, but her knee buckled. Maryse couldn't capitalize, so Michelle landed a pancake suplex on her second attempt to score a pin for the win.

WINNER: Michelle in 6:00 to retain the Divas Title. Crowd was a little tough on the divas, who put together a nice match. Wasn't great or memorable, but they held their own in the ring. (*1/4)

Big Show came to the ring dressed to wrestle. Show made a suggestion that if Adamle needs a suitable replacement, he should look no further than himself. After bashing Vickie Guerrero's management of Smackdown, Show gave a Smackdownyourvote pitch in relation to the Mobile Text voting. He polled the live audience, which applauded. He thanked them, then his music hit. Vickie Guerrero then walked out before Show could leave. Show smiled, then Vickie asked Show if he has trouble understanding English. Vickie called him a big, dumb giant who can't understand instructions, which drew Show's ire. Vickie told him to go back where he belongs, but the druid entrance music hit causing a big laugh from Show.

Druids wheeled a casket down the entrance ramp to the ringside area while Show just couldn't help but crack up with laughter. Show told Vickie that she's going right inside the casket. Undertaker then appeared on the video screen and told Vickie that he's coming for her and that coffin will be her final resting place. Taker asked Vickie if she will go voluntarily or if he has to come to ringside and kill her. Wonderful. Show joked around with Vickie, then Taker's entrance started to play. As Taker walked to the ring, Vickie tried to leave, but Show subdued her and took her back into the ring. Taker then opened the casket and walked into the ring.

Taker slowly stalked Vickie, who was being held by Taker, then Show suddenly turned on Taker with a right hand smash. Vickie retreated to a corner in the ring while Show continued to smash Taker with hard right hand blows to Taker's body. Show rammed Taker hard into the ringpost, then he put a dent in the casket with Taker's body. Show tipped over the casket before continuing his assault on Taker on the outside. Back in the ring, Show landed one clean blow to the jaw that knocked Taker over on his back. Show called Vickie over, then Vickie slapped Taker in the face before spitting at him. Taker slumped to the mat, then Vickie and Show slowly left the ring together. Crowd was stunned in silence. Nice segment for Show's heel turn that's been needed for a while.

6 -- RAW CHAMPIONSHIP SCRAMBLE MATCH

JBL and Batista are starting things off, with the PPV set to end about five minutes before the top of the hour, which would be one of WWE's longest PPVs in a while. They went about four minutes before Kane came out as the third man in the mix. The big men had a typical big-man battle that dulled the crowd's senses. Kane teased the chokeslam at 6:00, but Batista blocked and teased the Batistabomb, only to have JBL kick him in the head. Kane then ducked a Clothesline from Hell and nailed a chokeslam on JBL to become World Hvt. champion.

At 8:00, Rey Mysterio came out as the fourth man in the match. Rey had a crazy Mohawk going on underneath his mask. He quickly dropkicked Kane over the top rope to the floor, then he gave JBL a spinning head scissors. Kane hopped on the apron and avoided the 619 before blasting Rey with a clothesline. Rey covered, though, and Batista launched him off his shoulders with a big splash on Kane. Batista and Rey set up the shoulder-splash one more time, but Rey suddenly turned it into a spinning victory roll on Batista for a nearfall. Batista and Ray talked out their differences, but JBL attacked Rey and Batista.

At 12:00, Chris Jericho's music hit. Eh? Jericho limped out to the ring clutching his body in pain while the wrestlers in the ring looked shocked. And the 5:00 clockdown clock started. Jericho sold the injuries to the point where he couldn't make it to the ring as he held his body in pain. Batista unleashed spears on Rey, then Jericho, before measuring Kane for a powerslam. Rey then played a pesk by breaking up Batista's pin attempts on various opponents. Batista had enough and wanted a Batistabomb, but Rey slipped out and gave JBL the 619. Kane still champ right now. Suddenly, Rey wanted a springboard move, but Batista smashed him to the floor.

With 1:30 left in the deal, Kane went up top and nailed a clothesline on Batista. He made a cover for some reason, but it was only good for a two count. Kane wanted a chokeslam, but Batista speared Kane out of nowhere. He called for the end, then Batista gave him a spinebuster for a three count with 36 seconds left. Batista is the champ with no one moving except for Batista. Rey suddenly tried to attack Batista, which allowed Jericho to sneak into the ring and cover Kane's lifeless body to score the pin and become new World Hvt. champion as time expired.

Afterward, Batista could only pound his fists on the mat in frustration while Jericho sneered like an angry villain with barely any life in his body. Jericho celebrated with the title belt in hand, then Batista left the ring in frustration.

WINNER: Jericho in 18:00 to become World Hvt. champion. Well, that sets up some amazing TV between Jericho and Michaels, who thought he got the best of Jericho tonight. Sucks for Punk, who wasn't even a factor in the conclusion of his first World Title reign, but the Orton vs. Punk feud could be a strong part of TV going forward this fall. Match wasn't that good with a lot of sluggish moments, but Jericho's surprise win made up for it. (**)

Wow, I didn't see Jericho winning this at all, esp. since he wasn't booked and lost badly to HBK in the unsanctioned match. I doubt anyone in the world predicted before Unforgiven aired that Jericho would be the man by the end of the night.

I can't wait as hell to see Raw

WWE RAW Results: 9-8-08

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Except for the opening report, condensed to in-ring results only.

Start of show:
The show started with Lillian Garcia in center ring. She introduced the...new World Heavyweight champion Chris Jericho to a chorus of boos. Jericho then slowly made his way to the ring all-smiles with the World Title slung over his suit-clad shoulder. Announcers went silent during the intro, then Jericho's music stopped and Jericho began to gloat about his good fortune. Jericho recapped Unforgiven for people confused by what happened.

He said he faced the wrath of a self-righteous hypocrite last night, then he took off his jacket and dress shirt to show what this "good person" did to him last night. Jericho raised up his arm to show the welts and bruises on his side and back from Michaels last night. He asked what kind of a man would do this to another human being - a hypocrite. Jericho said Michaels whipped him like a dog and all the people savored it last night. He said when all the bravado goes away, Michaels didn't win anything. Jericho said that match was an Unsanctioned match, which means it never really occurred. He said Michaels won nothing; meanwhile, he won the World Title.

Jericho paused for dramatic gloating effect with the title belt held close to his face, then he said good things happen to good people and he is a good person. Jericho said he is a righteous, honest man who does exactly what he says he's going to do. Jericho said he was trying to recover backstage after the Unsanctioned match, then Mike Adamle asked him to replace Punk, and he won the World Title.

Jericho said everyone is now forced to recognize how great he really is. He said he's better than Shawn Michaels and he's also the new World champ. Jericho smiled it up, then Adamle appeared on stage to congratulate Jericho. He said C.M. Punk suffered a concussion last night and he wasn't medically cleared to compete. Adamle told Jericho that he answered the call, but the fact remains that Punk lost his title without having a chance to defend it. He said Punk isn't here tonight, but next week, Punk will be given a chance to regain the title with Punk vs. Jericho for the World Title. He added that the match will take place inside a 15-foot-high steel cage.

Jericho said that doesn't bother him any because he beat Punk in his hometown before and he'll beat him next week. He said he's ready to leave this place and he'll see Punk next week. Adamle told Jericho not to fast because he needs a main event tonight. Adamle booked Jericho in a match tonight against... Batista. Jericho's wounds and bruises suddenly hurt a little bit more, as Jericho paced the ring with a pained scowl on his face.

1 -- Women's champion BETH PHOENIX vs. MICKIE JAMES -- Women's Title match

Beth quickly showed off her power in the opening minutes, dragging Mickie in and out of the ring to inflict punishment. Mickie then blocked a corner move and snapped off a head scissors. Candice was shown chuckling to herself sitting in the director's chair ringside. Beth then blocked a top rope move and flung Mickie hard to the mat with a power move for the pin and the win. Rather decisive victory. Beth then stared down Candice, who stood up and giggled at Beth.

WINNER: Beth in 4:00. Rather surprising squash of Mickie, who will obviously be playing to second fiddle to Candice from now on. (1/2*)

2 -- WILLIAM REGAL vs. JAMIE NOBLE

Regal quickly went after Noble with aggressive forearms in the corner, with Lawler deciding to call Layla's facial reactions to Noble taking a beating. Noble suddenly came back with an enziguiri and cannonball splash in the corner, which Regal blocked with a knee to the back of the head. Regal then smashed Noble with a running knee to the head for the pin and the win.

Afterward, Regal took the mic and said happy endings only happen in fairy tales. Well, elsewhere, too, but we won't get into that. Regal then slipped to the outside and stared down Layla, who didn't react to Regal's presence. Regal then extended his arm and Layla slowly accepted his offer. Regal led Layla around the ring while Layla looked confused by the situation. She looked back into the ring once or twice, but ultimately left with Regal. She went for one last peek back into the ring before disappearing with Regal.

WINNER: Regal in 3:00. Short squash and intriguing post-match to continue the program. Wait and see on this one. There's just been a noticeable void of strong babyfaces without Punk or Cena on this week's show. (1/2*)

3 -- JBL vs. CHL

The bell sounded and JBL simply walked out of the ring with his head hung low. Ref started his ten count while JBL just left. Haas was then declared the winner via countout. He celebrated with a giant celebration.

WINNER: CHL via countout. Well, hopefully this leads to something new for JBL. I'm suspecting the "give me respect" storyline, but a change of pace for JBL would be refreshing. (n/a)

4 -- THE MIZ & JOHN MORRISON vs. REY MYSTERIO & EVAN BOURNE

It will be very interesting to see how this quarter-hour rates with some amazing high-flying action on display as opposed to the usual established-stars-type match for this quarter hour. Rey and Bourne busted out some sick moves, then Rey flipped Bourne over the top rope into a huracanrana on Miz on the floor. Back in the ring, Bourne wanted a top rope move on Miz, but Morrison knocked Bourne off the top behind the ref's back to set up the heels on the offensive. Rey then took a hot tag at 5:00 and went to work on Morrison with rapid-fire kicks. He set him up for the 619, but Miz tripped Rey from the floor. Back in the ring, Morrison kicked Rey in the face, but Bourne broke up a pin.

The action broke down at 6:00, then Morrison accidentally smashed Miz with a roundhouse kick. Rey took advantage by dialing up the 619 on Morrison to a huge reaction. Bourne wanted the tag, then Rey granted him his wish and Bourne went up top. Crowd rose to their feet as Bourne set up and nailed the Shooting Star Press for the pin and the win.

WINNERS: Rey & Bourne in 7:00. Nice, nice match with plenty of high-energy to pick up the pace on the show and deliver a good dose of young superstar babyface hope after an hour of babyfaces doing absolutely nothing. Well done. (**1/4)

Post-match: The arena went dark, then Kane's music hit and he appeared on the video screen. Kane said he will explain the storyline next week when he tells Rey why he chose him as a victim. Kane provided a very special hint by flashing his old red and black mask toward the camera. Kane laughed maniacally, while Rey tried to play it cool in the ring.

5 -- World tag team champions CODY RHODES & TED DIBIASE, JR. & MANU vs. CRYME TYME (SHAD & J.T.G.) & KOFI KINGSTON

Manu impressive early on working over Kofi in the heel corner. Shad took a hot tag, then the action broke down in the ring. Bodies went flying, then Manu finished off Shad with a lift-up neckbreaker for the pin and the win. Well, I thought Manu would be brought in to be the designated jobber for the team, but that certainly wasn't the case here.

WINNERS: Team 2G in 4:00. Manu looked quite impressive in his national TV debut. Quite the stable forming to bolster the undercard.

6 -- IC champion SANTINO MARELLA (w/Beth Phoenix) vs. SNITSKY -- non-title match

Snitsky missed with a big boot in the corner, then Santino kinda pushed Snitsky down on the mat and rolled him up for the quick pin. Afterward, Beth and Santino shared a moment of kissing ringside. Snitsky seemed to be turned on by this, rather than angered by the loss.

WINNER: Santino in 1:00. Well, we're apparently in line for some Snitsky loving for Beth and Santino. Joy. (n/a)

7a -- World Hvt. champion CHRIS JERICHO (w/Lance Cade) vs. BATISTA -- non-title match

Batista just beat the crap out of Jericho to start things off, then Jericho slumped to the floor to recover. Mike Adamle walked out on stage and admitted to under-estimating the health of Jericho tonight. He said he needs a main event-quality match with star power, so he's making this a handicap match. And Jericho's partner is Lance Cade...hahahaha...no, it's JBL. Adamle stepped aside, then JBL walked out on stage and locked eyes with Batista on the way to the ring.

7b -- World Hvt. champion CHRIS JERICHO (w/Lance Cade) & JBL vs. BATISTA

Jericho played the big pesk here, allowing JBL to use Jericho's distraction to nail Batista in the head with a boot. JBL and Jericho then started double-teaming Batista in their corner with Jericho suddenly showing improved health after playing dead in part A of the match.

Batista made a comeback and wanted to finish off Jericho, but Cade hopped on the apron to distract Batista. JBL then surprised Batista with a Clothesline from Hell and Jericho snuck over to make the cover on Batista for the pin and the win. Jericho collapsed to the announce table in front of an irate Cole.

WINNERS: Jericho & JBL in 10:00. Good win for the heels to set up Batista getting the final say in the post-match. (*)

After the bell, JBL and Cade took turns working over Batista in the ring. Cade got to see home action while JBL shouted at Batista that he's not so tough right now. Suddenly, Batista came flying off the ropes with a double shoulder tackle before delivering double spinebusters. Batista called for the end, then he gripped Cade and gave him a Batistabomb in center ring. Batista came up worn out while Jericho was shown standing on top of the ramp posing with the World Title. Jericho had this utterly classic evil grin on his face while cuddling up with the title belt. Cole gave the final pitch for the steel cage title match next week.
