Repairing WG Monitors: Horizontal problems specifically

Hey guys, here's the situation. I have a Blitz cabinet, which plays fine and everything, but the monitor definitely needs to be repaired. The image only spans about 50% of the screen, and it wont stretch any further. Here's a small ascii description:

|<-Monitor->|<-Picture->|<-Monitor->|

Where it should be:

|<------Picture------>|

Now the first thing that came to mind is the Horizontal Width coil. However I'm lead to believe that's not the problem, as when I adjust the horizontal position pot it fails to move in either direction having foldover upon reaching the 50% mark. Here's another description:

Actual:

|<-Monitor->|<-Picture->|<-Monitor->|

Horizontally Adjusted to the Left:

|<-Monitor->|<-Picture|<---Monitor->|

It folds over when being adjusted in either direction as opposed to moving the image in that direction. This leads me to believe it's some sort of cap or resistor that's on it's way out. Something to note about the monitor, sometimes it takes absolutely FOREVER to focus. Talking 30 minutes+ depending on how many hours it's been off. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, however.

So what do you guys think it is? Am I right in assuming it's the caps? Or is this a much larger problem? The reason I'm asking is because I'm most likely going to end up going to radioshack and replacing each cap and resistor one by one, and depending on how bad the board is I may just take it to my local guy and pay him to do it. Or buy a whole damn new monitor if he requests a fortune for it.

Just an update -

I took a look at the monitor this morning and it had the following written on the part that holds the chassis in place

"Warning - Replace with K7500 chassis only!"

So the monitor *appears* to be a K7500. This picture is not mine, but exactly what it mine looks like. Also, messing around with it I'm 90% certain the horizontal coil is shot:

...as while it works, it's completely unravelled to the point where the entire coil it loose (you can literally wiggle it around like a string were holding it in place). I've seen one at happ with a K7000 series cap kit, but I'm not sure if it comes with the plastic hex tool for adjusting it or not. (I need one)

Is there anything to replacing a width coil? I've never replaced one before but as always better safe than sorry.

Ping Ken Layton over on the KLOV forums or the newlifegames.net forums. He'll know what parts are swappable.

I think all of the major 7xxx monitor parts are interchangeable (flyback, Horiz width coil) and the caps slightly different on the kits but he'll know. I also think that warning sticker is because of a slightly diferent yoke. If you swap out the chassis you'll need to swap the yoke too.

OK I tried getting in contact with ken via newlifegames forums but the admin hasnt approved/declined my request to be a member, and the klov forums never send me a confirmation email. But I wanted to ask you a quick question before I order a cap kit for this-

I also have a Daytona cab that has a WG in it. The model is WGM2575-U4GS27J. I was just curious if you knew whether or not this was a 7500 as well? If so I'll order a cap kit and replacement coil for both (even though the daytona doesn't need it, hey you never know)

No, 2575 is different.

Your account has been approved on the newlifegames.net forum. (I'm a moderator there) ;)

OK so I replaced the width coil, with no success. The image is still limited to the center of the screen, and adjusting the H-Pos only moves the image around within those barriers. I can't for the life of me figure out what would cause this, unless, a resistor?

Edit- FIXED! :D

Turns out it wasn't even hooked up to the HOT, as seen here connected by a 3 prong molex connector (left):

I saw the cable and wondered what it was for, then I realized I saw that piece of metal lying at the bottom of the cab! Now if only I could find a place to put it.

The only other problem I have with this monitor is the focus. Ken said it might be a dying flyback, but it's very strange. The focus on the center of the screen is crystal clear, but the edges of the monitors are out of focus. It also takes a few minutes to come into focus, but after that it's fine. :conf:

My monitor has the same thing with focus except its only slighty out of focus on the very edges of the screeen. Centre is beautiful though.

Looking at the cross hatch it looks as if it's displaying the original image, and then it's displaying a second image slightly rotated, thus causing what appears to be a focus problem. Now this makes me wonder if I just move the convergence tabs all the same amount in the same direction, if it'll fix it.

DO NOT mess with those until after the monitor warms up 10 minutes...

Also, make sure you degauss the monitor manually BEFORE you attempt to mess with those.

The thing that has me so confused is that it's not one color thats off, or two colors, it's all three - so there's literally double cross hatches. Like this:

I always thought convergence was just if the red, blue, and/or green guns were slightly off. For it to be double like this took me by surprise. It's going to be a pain in the ass to get this hot glue off :(
