even the hardest of hardcore SNK fans would not be able to tell the difference between the emu and the real thing

Really?

with almost zero lag

Oh I see.

Im so bored of all the times people have claimed perfect emulation over the years. There is no such thing. A real veteran will always find fault, and not because he is a hater, simply for the fact that nothing beats the real thing.:)

Edit- Sorry OrochiEddie, you beat me to it, I posted this before I had even read up to your post.:)

What type of PC controller do you use for fighting games? Is there any input lag?

Well there was your problem....you played neo rage on an lcd monitor :) Yes, playing FBA on an actual CRT monitor would definitely make it look IDENTICAL to the arcade machine. It's all about which monitor you connect your PC to. Try it and you will be amazed :)
So a regular old standard resolution arcade monitor, which has pixels that line up with the game because the game was meant to be played on it looks the same as the same game emulated and running on a high resolution PC monitor? Right... I'm not saying the PC screen looks bad, it's just not "IDENTICAL."

What is the point of using the real thing when you can't connect it to others around the world and play against them with it?

There is absolutely nothing about the way Final Burn emulates NeoGeo games that is NOT 100% authentic! It emulates them to a tee! If my pc was mounted in an arcade neo-geo old school cab, even the hardest of hardcore SNK fans would not be able to tell the difference between the emu and the real thing, unless I Alt+Entered out of full screen.

Sometimes I often gaze in amazement at my PC monitor, and just sit there bewildered at how ridiculously awesome emulation is.
WTF?

I've been playing 2df since I found out about it on Friday. It looks pretty awesome on my 36" CRT. Looks better than my Neo Geo.

As for SNKP, fuckem, or whatever you wanna say, but at least they're doing SOMETHING. Calling for their downfall is probably not the best way to "market" 2df.

Personally, I'm all for SNKP's efforts. Anything they can do to ruin the collector value of carts is good with me.

It's all about the love.

He did kinda sound like Robert Hamburger there. Like he even felt it in his peepee.

Oh FYI, I'm playing 2df via TV-Out, with the PS2 Neo Geo stick, with a Trio-Linker (from EMS) to connect it to the PC. There's no input lag whatsoever.

I have FIOS and I was playing Samurai Shodown 2 with a guy from Brazil whose ping was so high it didn't even register, and it was like he was sitting on the couch next to me.

No Bullshit

Two Things; One, I want a 36" CRT damn it! I have a 27" Wega and 2D games in it never looked better! I will eventually get one of them fancy lcd magigs for the living room, but for now a good old CRT is where is at. I think I can get a hold of one 36" CRT sony wega, the guy wants like 400 bucks, I dunno I think is high for a pretty much obsolete model these days.

Two: What's highlited is a testament to be held over mount sinai! Burn the damn scriptures! I play for the fun and I don't see it as an investment.

Because your comment was fucking stupid -- I thought that was pretty obvious from my post.

Stating that there's nothing better then playing games with another person in real life is stupid? Your arguments are full proof. Touche.:spock:

So let's review:

Me = stupid
You = Trolling flaming dimwit

I can deal with that.

Ok, then. Your tone was fucking stupid. Or at very least, dismissive. :p

As stated, not everybody has friends that are into Neo Geo.

No, dickshit. You made an obvious statement that was akin to saying that $1000 is better than $100. Yeah, that's fuckin obvious. But if you see $100 on the street you're not going to say "fuck that, I'll wait for the $1000."

No wait, I take that back. You probably would.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program...

Edit: I was just thinking, if any of you do get on 2df, it would be nice if your username was the same as it is here, so it's easier for us to find each other.

I was also just thinking, "I bet the school system in Southtown sucks".

Maybe even set up some kind of voice chat dealie. What do people use these days? Teamspeak? Roger Wilco?

I heard Duke Nukem likes to voice chat, so it's gotta be good enough for us.

Edit: Oh noes. Chat would give people more reasons to complain about how it's laggy and not as good as a cab.

I have to tell you, I feel very special. Not only have you trolled my ass from a previous thread to this one, but you seem so enamored by my persona, you troll behind another troll.

Since you're a swell guy, I'll let you down easy. I've been where you're at. Yea, trolling and e-stalking someone is fun, but it only ends up hurting you. Oh how I remember those days of trolling DashK. Sure, it was amazing the first few times, but then I got hooked. I mean I couldn't stop. Every comment he made was only followed by more drivel until I became even more grotesque then the person I trolled. I had turned into what I most hated.

I see you going down that same twisted path, and I don't want you to go through what I did. You're a good kid with a lot going for you, don't throw it all away. I'm not sure why my nutsack attracts your attention constantly, but you can't go through life swinging from my balls. You have to make yourself. Only then will you know the true you that you can be when you are what you want to be...with yourself.

To sum it all up, quick being a dick. Maybe the self righteous bullshit act gets the WoW crowd all hot and bothered, but it just doesn't do it for me. Sorry sweetheart. :emb:

All my friends that I use to hang with playing 2D fighters when in high school and JR College are gone or don't play these games anymore. So, I am left with nobody to play Neo Geo games or even SF2 for fuck sakes. I have just gotten used to playing the CPU and turning the difficulty up.

I can't even find people that will play Tekken 5 or DOA4, which doesn't bother me that much since I am burned out on those series playing other people. Everyone wants to play FPS games online now. I give up.

Yeah, it rocks doesn't it? :) I have cable at home and the performance is simply buttery and milky smooth 95% of the time. But even at work on my laptop, where I've got a shitty Sprint Wireless Broadband connection, I can *STILL* get a few smooth games here and there sometimes. It's fucking amazing.

2df is your answer answer my friend....seriously.

Two Things; One, I want a 36" CRT damn it! I have a 27" Wega and 2D games in it never looked better!

Regarding the image authenticity debate, I am going to tell you guys something. What I am about to say is no bullshit:

I have been playing 2D games in the arcade starting from 1989(I still suck at most of them unfortunately). I have stared and gazed at CRT arcade monitors for years, and know what images look like on them like the back of my hand.

Now....I have also been playing mame for years, and although I've owned FBA for years, I've never really enjoyed it as much as mame, due to mame's vastly enormous library. If you would have asked me JUST a couple days ago if I thought 2D games running through either mame or FBA could look like a CRT image running on either an LCD or DLP screen, I would have laughed at you, slapped you silly, and told you to stay off the drugs!

But today....I have discovered something insanely awesome. I have discovered how to make 2D games look VERY VERY CRT-like on my 110" DLP front projection screen!

You see, there are these blitters in FBA that were made by a guy named Jan Klassaaan. Among these blitters, are a couple in particular...."scanlines" and "3D projection", that turns the 2D image into a look that resembles the effects you would see on a true CRT screen almost TO A TEE!

Now, I know that mame has scanlines as well, but FBA does them in an authentic way that I have NEVER seen done before! They are PERFECT!

Then you have the 3D projection blitter, which slightly warps the shape of the image, where the top and side corners are slightly bent, resembling what it would be on a CRT tube set.

Then, what I do is run the emu in its naitive standard rez, 320X200 or whatever the figure is, and enter full screen. Once in full screen the image becomes small, but my projector has an anamorphic and "wide" button that doubles its size. Then the image, for some reason gets this look that is STRIKINGLY close to what I'm used to seeing on an arcade crt monitor.

Coupled with a few tweaks to color, contrast, gamma and brightness in the nVidia color profile menu, and I have an image that's running on a DLP projector, that you would literally mistake for running on a giant 110" CRT monitor, connected via RPG SCART(My PC's actually connected via HDMI).

Seriously...anyone who doubts FBA can make 2D games, NeoGeo games in particular, look CRT-ish on any monitor needs to experiment with the scanlines, phospher and 3D projection blitters. They are absolutely PHENOMENAL!!!!!!:buttrock::multi_co:

Well this thread certainly went to hell. Good job folks.

No, there is nothing as good as playing offline with a friend. No lag, playful trash talk, all that stuff. The online experience can never truly match that of playing in an arcade, or on a home system with friends. And yes, though emulators are great, there's nothing quite like playing on the real thing. Not going to argue with that.

That said, online play has made remarkable strides in the last year through GGPO and now nFBA / 2DF. If you haven't played a fighting game on either of these services, you don't know what you're missing. Yes there is always going to be a teeny tiny bit of lag (unless you play on GGPO with the 0 frame smoothing option, but that only works on the best of the best connections), but you'd be surprised how great they play now. I've had lots of connections where I don't even think about the fact that I'm playing online - it feels just like offline play to me. Yes, that's not going to happen every time, you might run into a connection with someone halfway around the world and have a choppy game. But hell, I played Fatal Fury Special with a guy from Japan and the connection was smooth as butter.

Besides, where else are you going to find people to play the more obscure SNK fighters, and more importantly, play them WELL? Us Neo fans are scattered everywhere, so online play is an important thing. That is, if you actually want human competition. I'm sure some people are just content to play the CPU on fighting games........

Also, none of you can whup my ass in Fighter's History Dynamite. If you think you can, please see me on 2DF. ;)

Well said! :multi_co: (especially the Fighter's History part....I suck at that game)

....stuff....

I don't know the history between you two, but you do realize that I basically said the same thing to you, right?

BBH! You're on man! Karnov's is one of my favorite Neo fighters up there with Fatal Fury Special. I wish I could play Karnov's better though, so far I can only half decent play with Ray and Sashi, ok maybe mizogouchi too, but I defenately need to get better, so this will be a great opportunity to get some serious gaming going.

Forget the drama these fucking queens are pestering the thread with, "we" the ones that count are listening, so, hell yeah! Let's fucking do this!

Just to sum up; Nothing beats playing the real thing! Emulators are cool as an alternative, online play can be very enjoyable, and we hate drama. Done! Now I'm gonna findout what I need to do to get this going...
