Personally, I think the fact that some of the blu ray players have gone down in price recently negates some of their conclusions about "mass market" consumers making a choice favoring Hd-dvd based on price. Maybe the study is funded by Toshiba .

I hardly call outdated, 1.0 spec, launch bluray players hitting 299 anything major.

If you actually read the article, it's the same data that made Paramount go HDDVD exclusive, 2008 will be the deciding year, and Sony will have basically maxed out their bluray userbase by next march.

While HDDVD actually sells players, bluray players do not sell, because people only buy PS3s.

And when 2008 rolls around and Paramount drops bombs like the Indy boxed set, and Universal drops bombs like Back to the Future and Jurassic Park, and Warner drops the bomb that they are going HDDVD exclusive because they don't want to release movies for a gaming console, bluray will be done.

You'll see.

Where is this proof that Sony will have maxed out the Blu-ray user base by next March? Oh thats right, just like most other statements you make there is no validity behind it.

Standalone BD players have not sold as well as HD DVD standalones no doubt. However, people buy the PS3 as a BD player because it's the best bang for the buck.

You are aware that Paramount cannot release any of the Indiana Jones movies on HD DVD right? Steven Spielberg controls what format his films show up on...a little hint: Blu-ray. Unless one format wins there is a good chance we will not see any Spielberg films any time soon on HDM. Close Encounters happened to be one which he did not have control over distribution given he directed it before he was the name he is today. But it did appear on the format he likes.

There is no indication yet as to what Warner is even doing. Anyone saying otherwise is speculating. But we've come to know that DashK does nothing more than speculate when it comes to the subject of high definition media. He doesn't really know shit about anything. However that statement is hardly news to anyone here.

I hope Warner goes Blu-ray in 2008 just because I want to see what kind of crap you post. Otherwise I could care less.

Warner has stated that what Toshiba does with hardware in Q4 is very important.

Toshiba's strategy: dump a bunch of cheap players on the market to increase sales volume.

What Toshiba didn't expect: Blu-ray software continues to outsell HD-DVD software at a ratio of up to 3:1.

Warner sells software, and they sell more of it on Blu-ray. That is what will ultimately decide where they go when they go exclusive.

I'd like to see what direction the software goes after people open up their new blu ray/ hd dvd players post Christmas and go about buying movies for them.

I bought an A-2 during the Wal-mart firesale and the guy in front of me bought 4 as gifts so Q4 may be big on players, but lets see what happens with the software in the coming months dependent on what movies get released.

My guess is that it does little, if anything, to increase HD-DVD sales.

Enthusiasts--people who buy hardware--buy software. Most of those HD-DVD players purchased as gifts will collect dust on the shelf or be used almost exclusively for DVD playback.

I bookmarked your post. In fact, I'll put it in my sig.

Anyone wanna place bets? I got 3:1 odds favoring sanity!

EDIT: Also, Paramount is HDDVD exclusive because Microsoft and Toshiba dumped a pile of cash, about 3 times the total value of the entire hi-def market, on them.

That was debunked by Microsoft, Paramount and numerous insiders on AVS, months ago.

Stop getting your highdef news from DangerousK.

Bluray movie sales will go south as soon as PS3 owners have games worth buying, which should happen 2nd quarter next year.

Seriously...I usually refrain myself from moronic posts, but your train of thought needs some serious derailing. That made no sense. Essentially, what you are saying is that as MORE games become available for the PS3 and the better the quality of the game, people will stop watching movies? Despite the FACT that better games and more exclusives will MOVE more hardware...people are just going to STOP watching movies because the PS3 has some good games? I wish I could ban stupidity...

They claimed the money was for "marketing" purposes.

The fact that you actually bought into it is sad.

Then again, considering who you are...maybe it isn't as sad as it appears.

I have to agree with Dash K on some of his points. Most people that have spent the money on a PS3 can't find five games worthwile to play on the system, so they're spending their money on blu-ray dvds to make it worth their while. I don't think people will ever stop buying movies but their discretionary spending will go towards games instead of dvds.

I know I personally try to limit my purchases to one or two items a week at most that are "fun" items for me and when I don't buy a 360 game I buy a HD-DVD that week.

I'm sure more people will purchase PS3s and that will increase blu-ray sales, but people will also still buy HD-DVD players too and when people are buying HD-DVD players they're buying it for one single purpose and will use it for just that.

However people are not buying HD DVD's as was expected when Toshiba had their fire sale on the HD-A2. I actually thought HD DVD would win last week with The Bourne Ultimatum being released, yet the preliminary numbers had HD DVD getting beat again sales wise.

Also you and Dash are assuming people are buying Blu-ray movies in place of the lack of selection on the gaming front. There's no proof that this is what is happening. You have to remember, a lot of people purchased the PS3 so they could view BD movies...I was one of them. If the PS3 had only been a game player, I would have never bought the system. I've said multiple times my primary reason for purchasing the system was to view BD movies...getting the ability to play PS1, PS2, and PS3 games is just a nice little bonus since that was not the main reason for buying the system.

I purchased a PS3 primarily for movies because I drank the Kool-Aid and believed the games weren't worth playing.

I'm currently enjoying the shit out of Oblivion GOTY, COD4, the GT5 demo, and others. I'm expecting Uncharted and Ninja Gaiden Sigma for Christmas.

Totally worth the price of admission. PS3 haters are dipshits.

Well said, since you're in PA we should meet up sometime and make fun of the PS3 haters. :tickled:
