[Breaking News] Booker T Quits WWE
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that Robert Huffman (King Booker; Booker T) quit WWE when he was told that he was to be suspended for 60 days, as a punishment to the Signature Pharmacy bust. He was believed to have failed a Wellness Program test before, hence the 60 days suspension instead of 30.

While WWE is still trying to negotiate Huffman's staying with them, they're going on under the impression that he's done. The two sides had been having troubles recently, with a major setback being John Laurinaitis' call to go with Florida for a developmental territory - where WWE would start from scratch - instead of going with Booker's already established PWA, which WWE had been loaning wrestlers to. After they made the call to stop that, Booker went to his friends at TNA and booked them for his shows instead, which didn't sit so well with anyone backstage, but they couldn't say much having pulled WWE talent from PWA.

Booker is pretty much set financially and has wanted out of wrestling for a while. At the age of 42, he's accomplished a lot, and thanks to his hip hop store doing well in Houston, and his two wrestling schools up and running, there's really no need for him to stick around.

Took this from the LCW website. I do hope he doesnt decide to just disappear.

O.

It's now more or less official but you heard it from me first!!! :buttrock:

TNA No Surrender PPV Results: 9-9-07

For complete results, check out PWTorch (direct link to Caldwell's Report). I also apologize for not being able to post the real-time PPV results last night. I was in bed asleep at the time since I've been very ill the last few days.

1 -- STING & KURT ANGLE vs. TEAM PACMAN (RON KILLINGS & PACMAN JONES) -- TNA Tag Title match
WINNERS: Pacman & Killings in 6:00 to capture the TNA Tag Titles. Since TNA advertised Pacman knowing full well he couldn't wrestle, they went with a title change at the top of the show to make up for it with a "newsworthy" moment on the PPV. (1/2*)

2 -- RHINO vs. JAMES STORM (w/Ms. Jackie)
WINNER: Rhino in 10:00. Satisfying win for Rhino fans after months of him losing PPV matches. I understand cheering Rhino's Gore on Jackie, especially when they build up a storyline where "she has it coming to her", but violence against women on an uneven level doesn't have a place on wrestling TV - not even when Spike TV doesn't have a say over the product. (*1/2)

3 -- ROBERT ROODE (w/Ms. Brooks) vs. KAZ
WINNER: Roode in 14:00. Nice match that was given plenty of time and featured solid in-ring action. Brooks was much better in this role than yelling and screaming like a child. (**1/2)

4 -- KURT ANGLE vs. JAY LETHAL -- X Division Title match
WINNER: Lethal in 13:00 to capture the X Division Title. Sweet goodness, that's a wrestling match. Surprise win for Lethal after a very good title match. Bonus points for TNA having a 50th chance to re-start the X Division with some momentum in the form of Lethal pulling off a win against Angle. (***1/2)

5 -- CHRIS HARRIS vs. BLACK REIGN DUSTIN RHODES (w/Misty the Rat) -- No DQ match
WINNER: Harris in 5:00. Anticlimactic for Harris to get his revenge on Rhodes with a small package to end the match. Like a good TNA TV match, the post-match activity took precedence over the wrestling match... I wrote those two sentences before Rhodes put his rat on Harris's crotch and face. After that, I don't know what to say about this company anymore. (1/2*)

TNA No Surrender PPV Results: 9-9-07

Continued from previous post...

6 -- TAG TEAM GAUNTLET MATCH -- #1 Contender match

A.J. Styles and Christopher Daniels started things off representing his respective tag team. They're doing one-minute intervals on wrestlers entering the gauntlet. Tenay said Eric Young drew number 20 for the match. Homicide came out third, representing LAX. Chris Sabin came out as the fourth participant. Havok out fifth. Petey came out sixth. Meanwhile, Homicide was the first elimination. Styles then countered a tornado DDT from Sabin into a toss over the top rope, eliminating Sabin second. Devon came out seventh. Naturally, he knocked down all of the smaller X Division wrestlers. Jimmy Rave came out eighth, with Christy Hemme accompanying him. Brother Ray came out ninth and just started running over the smaller wrestlers. Havok was eliminated third, then Raven came out as the tenth wrestler. He pulled out the snot rag and wiped Daniels's face with the rag. Devon had enough of that and eliminated Raven for the fourth elimination. Stick a fork in Serotonin, said Tenay.

Entry no. 11 was Shark Boy. Ray wasn't feeling the outfit, so he eliminated Shark Boy for the fifth elimination. Guru Sonjay Dutt then came out 12. 3D had enough of the smaller wrestlers and eliminated Rave sixth, then Petey seventh. B.G. James came out as no. 13 and he went right after 3D. Hernandez then entered as no. 14 and he ran over everyone in sight. Tomko came out as no. 15 and both members of Team 3D were quickly eliminated for nos. 8 and 9 when Ray accidentally eliminated Devon and Tomko eliminated Ray. Out as no. 16 was Elix Skipper. No eliminations, then Alex Shelley came out as no. 17 to delayed entrance music. Shelley suddenly tossed B.G. James for elimination ten. Out next as no. 18 was Lance Hoyt with Christy Hemme. He picked up Skipper for a chokeslam and nearly broke his neck trying to chokeslam him over the top rope to the floor. Unbelievably terrible move. Skipper was elimination no. 11, then Kip James came out as no. 19. Dutt drew Kip's ire with his peace, so Kip tossed him as elimination no. 12. Eric Young then came out as the final participant.

Elimination no. 13 was Hernandez when Tomko tossed him over the top rope when Hernandez charged Tomko. Young then surprised Tomko from behind and knocked him out as no. 14. Hoyt was out next as 15. Daniels and Kip eliminated each other as nos. 16 and 17. It came down to Styles, Young, and Shelley. Shelley and Styles tried to kiss up to Young to earn his services, but Young wasn't buying it. They ended up eliminating Young as no. 18 after a few tense moments. So, now it's a tag match to determine the winners.

6a -- A.J. STYLES & TOMKO vs. ALEX SHELLEY & CHRIS SABIN
WINNERS: Styles & Tomko in 26:00 to become #1 contenders. Five really good minutes of tag team action after the gauntlet stuff. If they cut it down to five teams, then booked 15 minutes of tag team action, this would have been a very good round of tag team wrestling. As it was, most of the gauntlet portion felt like a waste of time. (**)

7 -- CHRISTIAN CAGE vs. SAMOA JOE (w/Dancers)
WINNER: Christian Cage via DQ in 15:00. One of Christian's better non-gimmick singles matches since joining TNA. There was a non-finish, but it wasn't a non-finish for the sake of not having anyone do a job. It made sense for the storyline and feud. Whether they're able to turn Joe into a badass babyface remains to be seen, as they've failed for several months. Fortunately, the fans are quite forgiving of Joe and buy into his in-ring toughness, but his character still screams heel. (**3/4)

8 -- KURT ANGLE vs. ABYSS -- TNA Hvy. Title match
WINNER: Angle apparently via submission in 20:00. Slow, methodical match that stayed in first gear with Abyss unable to move well in the final half of the match. A breath of fresh air with no interference, no referee incompetency, no gimmicks, and no bag of tricks. Just a gutsy effort from Abyss and Angle. A good story fit for a World Title match. (***1/4)

WWE RAW Results: 9-10-07

Khali’s chaos spills over onto Raw
By Corey Clayton
September 10, 2007
GREEN BAY, Wisc. – The Great Khali normally has a firm hold on SmackDown. But on the road to Unforgiven, the World Heavyweight Champion’s Vise Grip reached across the airwaves and took hold of Raw. After Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy celebrated the fact he wasn’t Mr. McMahon’s bastard son, the Chairman placed him in a match against The Great Khali. The Punjabi Giant was visiting Raw claiming to be McMahon’s child. In their match, Khali caught “The Rainbow-haired Warrior” in his crushing Vise Grip. Hardy tried to fight free, but passed out from the pressure. Khali nonchalantly covered him with a foot for the pinfall victory. However, as Khali celebrated, Batista rushed the ring and speared the colossus, who then rolled out of the ring. The Animal stood on the turnbuckle pointing and yelling at the champion, motioning around his waist. The two will square off for the first time ever on broadcast TV on SmackDown this Friday night before their Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship at Unforgiven.

A little shocking…
While many male Superstars prayed they were Mr. McMahon’s illegitimate child in Green Bay (and some prayed they weren’t), word finally came down from Mr. Johnson, the attorney for the mother of McMahon’s bastard son.

After a lengthy process of elimination, the privileged son of the son-of-a-gun Chairman was revealed to be … Hornswoggle!

Cena’s blood boils over
Despite being banned from the Resch Arena by Acting General Manager Jonathan Coachman, WWE Champion John Cena found a way inside the building and attacked his Unforgiven opponent Randy Orton, who attacked Cena’s father two weeks prior. Consumed with rage over the attack on his family, Cena tried to chase Orton, but security intervened to keep the rivals apart.

As Cena was escorted from the arena, he told Mr. McMahon that Orton's blood “will run with fear” and the Legend Killer would feel pain and vengeance in his bones.

Gaining momentum
After a whirlwind tour in South Africa that saw the World Tag Team Titles change hands twice this past week, Paul London was able to defeat one-half of the current champions, Lance Cade, in singles action. While the referee was distracted by Cade’s partner Trevor Murdoch, London’s partner Brian Kendrick surprised Cade with a top-rope reverse bulldog. London landed a somersault splash onto Cade and scored the pinfall, enraging the sportsmanship-touting, blue-collar duo. The two rival teams will face off for the World Tag Team Championship at Unforgiven in just six days.

Game breaker?
Acting GM Coachman gave Carlito the choice of Triple H’s Raw opponent, and the crafty Caribbean chose former Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin. But The Game was still able to defeat Benjamin with a Pedigree. Carlito tried to hit Triple H with a chair after the win, but the 10-time World Champion dodged it, sending Carlito scurrying for safer ground.

Coachman announced that Mr. McMahon had decided to change the pair’s Unforgiven matchup into a No Disqualification Match for Carlito only, which means any weapon is legal for the islander, but not for The Game.

Dark Phoenix rising
What started as a Mickie James victory over Jillian Hall turned ugly as the No. 1 contender for the Women’s Championship, Beth Phoenix, leveled both Hall and James after their match. Women’s Champion Candice Michelle courageously left the announcers’ table to confront her Unforgiven opponent, but received a powerful slam for her trouble. Can Candice find a way to counter Phoenix’s strength advantage in six days, or will we see a new champion on Sunday, Sept. 16, at Unforgiven?

Italian icing
Santino Marella lost via disqualification against Sandman, who caned him a week earlier. After the match, as Ron Simmons and Maria talked about Santino’s change of attitude, Marella attacked Simmons from behind, then walked off with a very disturbed and shocked Diva.

Matches
Mickie James def. Jillian Hall
Sandman def. Santino Marella (disqualification)
Triple H def. Shelton Benjamin
Paul London def. Lance Cade
World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali def. Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy (non-title)

Vat a tweest!

Last night's RAW was a tweest indeed! I didn't expect that, not one bit. My brother bet money that it was HHH and we all thought it was. Hell, they had me fooled! Good ending. John Cena trying to sound all tough was pure sh-crap though. If he was his thuggish self, then yeah I would have believed it. Some of the crowd didn't even buy into it; listen for the boos when he talked to Vince.

World Wrestling Entertainment has officially released former ECW Champion The Sandman today. Internally within the company, the release was expected over the last 24 hours.

Sandman was hired by WWE in June 2006 when they re-launched the ECW Brand. After being on the top of the ECW brand as a babyface, he was then drafted to the Raw brand. There are no details on why he was released as of yet, but stay tuned for further updates.

More WWE News...

- Nick Dinsmore (a/k/a Eugene) tested positive for painkillers and apparently his prescription had expired, or he came up with no medical justification for the test result. This made the second time he had failed a test, as he was sent to rehab after failing a test just days after the death of Eddy Guerrero.

- During an interview with The Houston Chronicle talking about his new Disney film "The Game Plan", Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson reiterated that he is completely done with professional wrestling. When asked about the business, he said, "....The reason people still ask if I'm coming back is because I never made a big production of my retirement like a lot of guys do. I just wanted to quietly get out. I quietly walked away."

- The Wrestling Observer is reporting the confirmed list of WWE suspensions include Edge, Gregory Helms, Charlie Haas, John Morrison, Kennedy, William Regal, Funaki, Umaga, Chavo Guerrero and Chris Masters.

I'm glad Orton isn't gone either. He surprised the hell out of me @ Summerslam. Hopefully this Sunday he'll do MUCH better and suprise me again. I still want Cena to keep the belt so that HHH can stomp the crap outta Cena and Orton can go after HHH for the title. I say let Cena go for the IC title so he can be a triple-crowner (I don't think the U.S. title counts).

ECW on Sci-Fi Results: 9-11-07

No apologies
By Andrew Rote
September 11, 2007
MINNEAPOLIS – CM Punk may forgive Elijah Burke for interrupting his discussion with General Manager Armando Estrada to kick off ECW on Sci Fi, but you can be sure he will not forgive the Experience for three disrespectful shoves when it comes time for the two to face at Sunday’s pay-per-view. The ECW Champion responded with a Enzuiguri that sent Burke out of the ring via airmail.

Punk continued his sneak preview of Unforgiven in Tuesday night’s main event when he and Stevie Richards took on Burke and Kevin Thorn. ECW’s self-proclaimed Guiding Light could only look on as his tag team partner fell victim to the Straightedge Superstar’s G.T.S. – sending him snoring toward the nearest coffin. We can only imagine what CM Punk has in store for Burke when he puts his ECW Championship on the line for the first time.

Earlier in the night, The Miz earned a dominant win against Tommy Dreamer. Kelly Kelly, though, was the party pooper during his celebration. Extreme Exposé ushered Kelly against her will to and from the ring for his contest. Moments later, Balls Mahoney turned her frown upside down when he gave her a Balls teddy bear. She wished him luck, but unfortunately for the ECW Original, it didn’t come through. Mahoney was pitted against Kelly’s ex-boyfriend Mike Knox, making his return to ECW on Sci Fi and determined to have a big night. The Miz walked out to observe Mahoney’s match and just as Balls caught him, Knox capitalized on his opponent with a devastating kick and a pin.

In other ECW on Sci Fi action, Matt Striker shined in one of the quickest matches in recent ECW history. After rolling up Nunzio for the win, Striker was joined in the ring by his "heavy," Big Daddy V, who was craving some scraps. As he punished Nunzio, Boogeyman appeared on the screen with a rendition of Humpty Dumpty that would leave a grown man scared of the dark. The two monsters will face to settle their rivalry next Tuesday.

Matches
The Miz def. Tommy Dreamer
Matt Striker def. Nunzio
Mike Knox def. Balls Mahoney
CM Punk & Stevie Richards def. Elijah Burke & Kevin Thorn

i say give orton the belt. remember the pedigree on orton is what fucked up HHH's knee in the first place. gibe orton the belt, then have a huge rivalry between the two that lasts until shawn michaels comes back and kicks orton's ass for the belt.

Ah so that's how HHH went out on injury. I had no clue... Oh well, if that's the case, then by all means let Orton win the belt! It'll be an awesome retaliation and they can finish what the started! Oh yeah, i'm ready for Orton to win the belt, I just hope they don't let him talk much and let his ass beatings and boot to the head do all the talking.

Here's the full story behind recent Ric Flair rumors, according to the September 10 Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Ric Flair was brought to the Smackdown tapings in Columbia, South Carolina, on the 21 August but then told he wasn't going to be used, despite the fact that he would have been immensely over with the local fans. This upset him, as had many things in recent months.

- He lost clean to an Indian deathlock in a match with Finlay on the 02 July, despite Flair being promised a big push after he was switched from Raw to Smackdown in the draft lottery.

- He wanted to turn heel because he feels he can work better that way, yet WWE wouldn't allow it because the fans love him to much to boo him.

- He and Carlito were told they would have a WrestleMania match together, only for it to be shunted to the pre-show. That one upset him so much that he threatened to no-show the Hall of Fame ceremony, yet he did attend and numerous inductees made sure they put him over in their speeches.

Steve Austin wanted him on the Mania card and so pitched an idea to Vince McMahon for a long program geared towards a huge Flair match at WrestleMania 24. Basically, Flair would lose a bunch of matches and then reach the end of his tether, promising to retire for good if he lost one more match. He would go on a winning streak and appear on all three brands, with it culminating in a Hall of Fame induction and his big final match at WrestleMania. Vince loved the idea and presented it, giving full credit to Austin, to the creative team, telling them they should start it as soon as possible. Brian Gerwitz, never a fan of Flair in his prime, had reservations about putting Flair, at his age, over so many people. He, Vince, Stephanie and Triple H kept discussing the plan and it kept getting delayed and eventually scrapped.

In the meantime, Flair has been working hard at launching his financial company. Also, supported by his new wife Tiffany, he is said to finally be in the frame of mind to realise that his wrestling career is over. Once all of this came to a head in Columbia, he quit. A number of people in WWE were very surprised by this, especially as Vince McMahon had lent him a significant sum of money for legal bills and assistance with his IRS trouble.

At this point in time, it remains to be seen if Flair would even attend next year's Hall of Fame ceremony.

The Sandman had been nothing but a model employee for the majority of his WWE run. He's been known to turn up early, suggest ways he can help put other guys over and do everything that is asked of him. This being said it was a shock to see the ECW original fired.

Early sources indicate that The Sandman may have shown up less than 100% to work during a recent international tour.

PWInsider.com also notes that on the plane ride home he might have exchanged words with road agent Ricky Steamboat.

The general Sandman character is also considered to be distasteful with the pending Congressional hearings.

the sandman character might be distasteful with congress, but fuck man... the audience loves him. the audience thinks he's amazing. when he comes out in the middle of the crowd and walked down swilling beer everyone is clapping and cheering and patting him on the back. i really see no reason to can him, fuck i see reason to get him on smackdown and have him take that cruiserweight title, and let no one take it from him. but that's just me.

The Sandman posted the following on his MySpace. He also has posted rates for booking him for shows and says on October 12th he will reveal plans on where he will be next. Sandman is unable to appear until 10/12 due to his former WWE contract.

Hey people, this is The Sandman. I think now that all of you have heard about World Wrestling Entertainment releasing me from my contract. Please, I have recieved emails and comments with hurtful things to the WWE such as not watching their programs and doing stuff to them where they lose a fan base...PLEASE DO NOT DO ANYTHING HARMFUL TO THE WWE. I am VERY upset about my release but I am even more upset if you guys take it out on them. I have a great attitude towards WWE, Vince McMahon, Stephanie, HHH, and Johnny Ace...I will make damn sure I am back in the WWE one day. WWE treated me well, I had a great time on WWE Raw and on ECW on SciFi...I loved every moment of it and the wrestling business is and has always been one big family combined with entertainment purposes. I appreciate all of your messages and all and I can not thank you guys enough! I will be back in WWE one day again...count on it.

TNA Impact! Results: 9-13-07

Results courtesy of PWTorch (direct link to Caldwell's report)

1 -- BLACK REIGN DUSTIN RHODES vs. SHARK BOY

Dustin went right after the cult favorite of the Impact zone before he could enter the ring. Tenay and West talked about the two-hour debut next month. West said it's what everyone has been working for. Let's see, we heard that after the move to Spike, then Thursday nights, and then prime time Thursday night. Dustin quickly finished Sharkie off with a turnout suplex. Tenay said it's the Schizophrenic.

After the match, Dustin drove the spike thing to Shark Boy's head. He then took of Sharkie's mask (with Shark face-down so we couldn't see his face) and stuffed Misty inside the mask. He tried to shove the mask back on Shark's head, but Eric Young made the save and covered Shark's head with a towel. Dustin smirked and held Misty's cute face to the camera.

WINNER: Dustin in 1:00. Just a match to get Dustin on TV for whatever purpose this gimmick is serving. (n/a)

Backstage, Crystal interviewed the new tag champions Team Pacman. Ron Killings sang about being on the road again to Bound for Glory. He said he really wants to dance a jig right now, but they have some business to take care of with A.J. Styles and Tomko. Pacman gave a shout-out to the Titans and he's looking forward to coming back to playing football. He cut a brief promo on Styles and Tomko. Something about chewing them up and Killings spitting them out. Sounds like an SNL skit gone wrong.

[Commercial Break]

2 -- CHRISTOPHER DANIELS (w/Senshi and Elix Skipper) vs. X Division champion JAY LETHAL (w/Sonjay Dutt) -- non-title match

Lethal came to the ring and they showed footage of Lethal pinning Kurt Angle for the X Division Title at the PPV. The bell sounded and Lethal knocked Daniel to the outside before hitting a suicide dive. Tenay and West planted seeds for excusing Lethal losing by saying a wrestler or team will usually have a letdown match or game right after a big upset win. West, never short on hyperbole, called Lethal vs. Angle one of the best matches in TNA PPV history. After making a comeback, Lethal nailed Daniels with a superkick at 3:00 for a nearfall. Daniels then blocked the Lethal Combination and hit the Best Moonsault Ever for a nearfall. Daniels blocked the Lethal Combination again, then hit a reverse DDT into a face plant for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Daniels in 5:00 to earn an X Division Title shot. Unless they're going to spend the next month before the PPV building up a real, significant, credible feud between Daniels and Lethal, it's just another step back for the X Division with Lethal being tossed out like a jobber at the PPV and losing his first match as new champion. Decent TV action, but not memorable. (*)

[Q3]

No time to let the match sink in. They cut backstage where Borash interviewed Jim Cornette about some Bound for Glory gimmick matches. They're booking another 15-man reverse battle royale. Unbelievable. He said there will be a ten-person women's gauntlet with five knockouts we know and five we've never seen before. He told Matt Morgan to be careful out there with Christian's group. Morgan took off his sunglasses and said he would. They showed Styles, Christian, and Tomko walking to the ring.

[Commercial Break]

In the ring, Christian made threats to Matt Morgan to hurry up and get to the ring. Christian held Tomko and Styles back as Morgan walked to the ring. Christian said he just wants to chit-chat. He claimed Samoa Joe realized during their match that he had no shot of beating Christian, so he got himself intentionally DQ'ed. Christian talked about Joe hanging him over the top rope, which brings him to Morgan. He said he runs the show, so when the marquee attraction is being hung and his life is on the line, you don't wait five minutes to show up. You make sure it never happens. Christian wanted to fight, so they cornered Morgan before Samoa Joe ran into the ring sporting a t-shirt and cargo shorts. He helped Morgan clear the heels from the ring, then Morgan took the mic and booked himself as special enforcer for Christian vs. Joe at the PPV. Christian screamed that Morgan can't just make that decision. Jim Cornette then came out and reinforced Morgan's statement. He then brought out Junior Fatu (Rikishi) as Christian's opponent next week. He came out to a basic remix of his old WWE dance music. Fatu flashed his gut and Christian backed up the entrance ramp with his cronies.

They aired a quick video package on TNA's six sides of steel cage match. Suddenly, there was a cage surrounding the ring. My goodness, that was the fastest cage ever built. Abyss then came out first for the cage match and went looking for weapons. Kurt Angle then came out for the main event.

[Commercial Break]

[Q4]

3 -- KURT ANGLE vs. ABYSS -- Steel Cage match -- Submissions match -- Abyss doen in TNA if he taps out

Angle quickly went after the injured leg from the PPV. At least they're following up on physical damage done at a PPV. Abyss quickly went on the offensive and threw Angle head-first into the cage wall. Angle came up bleeding and Abyss went to work with a spinebuster and clubbing forearm blows. They cut to break with Abyss in control and Angle flat on his back.

[Commercial Break]

They came back with Angle suddenly hitting a moonsault from the middle rope. Angle tried to use a chair, but the ref reprimanded him. Abyss took advantage of the distraction to punch the chair into Angle's face. Abyss started an offensive attack with right hand blows before catching Angle with a lift-up slam. Abyss went for the Shock Treatment, but Angle slipped out and slapped on the anklelock, which Abyss countered into an anklelock of his own. Suddenly, a blade emerged from behind Abyss to cut a hole in the ring. Judas Mesias emerged from underneath the ring spitting a red substance. Dude is pretty jacked. He pulled out a barbed wire cable of some sort and wrapped it around Abyss's throat. Angle didn't need any more reason to slip out of the cage. Judas laid into Abyss with chair shots before dumping glass on the mat. He picked up some glass and rubbed it across Abyss's arm before tasting Abyss's blood. Crowd was pretty much silent here. Suddenly, the lights went down and blue smoke filled the building. Undertaker is coming! Nevermind, Judas is done this week.

WINNER: Oh yeah, there was a match going on. No Decision was announced. Crowd reaction should tell the story of the level of interest in the new character. They already have Dustin Rhodes, so is it really necessary for another creepy character on the show? And now the cage match is taken down a notch after not being protected as a gimmick match to prevent wrestlers from entering and leaving the ring. (*1/4)

They closed with a recap video of the show.

WWE Smackdown Results: 9-14-07

Forgive and forget?
By Lennie DiFino
September 14, 2007

MINNEAPOLIS – On SmackDown, Batista squared off against World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali, just two days before they — and hopefully Rey Mysterio – square off in a Triple Threat Match at Unforgiven. The Animal was still on the prowl even after he speared Khali on Raw, seeking retribution for his friend, and former WWE Tag Team Co-Champion, whom Khali brutalized last week. The Khali Vise Grip that left Rey demolished and bloodied a week ago was applied on Batista Friday night, but the Punjabi Giant was disqualified when he refused to break the hold. The brutal nature of Batista and Khali’s encounters has grown well past the boiling point, and threatens to explode this Sunday.

With just one week until the happiest day of their lives, both General Manager Theodore Long and his fiancée, Kristal, put the finishing touches on their pre-wedding arrangements. While Kristal and her bridesmaids continued their behind-the-scenes planning -- with a bachelorette party -- the men of SmackDown threw a bachelor party for the General Manager. Best man Ron Simmons asked SmackDown’s newest team Jesse & Festus to supply the “entertainment,” and the Superstars did not disappoint. The Major Brothers, Sgt. Slaughter, "The Natural" Butch Reed and others joined in the party to help Long celebrate his final days as a single man.

Before they defend their WWE Tag Team Titles this Sunday against former champions Deuce & Domino, Matt Hardy & MVP tried to one-up each other on SmackDown in a chess match. After MVP “sneezed” and prematurely ended their latest one-on-one contest, Hardy informed the Ballin’ Superstar that he would be in action that night against Domino. Matt assured that he would indeed be in his unwilling partner’s corner -- much like MVP had been when he helped Hardy to victory over Deuce last week – and he was vocally true to his word. Fashioning himself as the U.S. Champion’s biggest fan for most of the contest, Hardy lead the Minneapolis crowd in “M-V-P,” chants while the brazen Superstar – still wearing most of a rather expensive suit – engaged in a slugfest with Domino. When Deuce tried to interfere, Matt knocked him to the ground – but in the process also angered his own partner. As MVP scolded Hardy, Domino rolled him up in a small package to steal the win. Can the bomber-jacketed duo carry that momentum into Unforgiven as they attempt to regain the WWE Tag Team Championship, or will Matt Hardy & MVP figure out how to work together and keep the gold?

Before his encounter with Undertaker at Sunday’s Unforgiven, Mark Henry came to SmackDown dressed as a druid and telling our fans, “Undertaker’s powers pale in comparison to mine.” But as Henry showed a video of his vicious attack on The Deadman back in May, another Undertaker video suddenly aired on the TitanTron. Afterward, a bolt of lightning flashed in the arena, hitting the stage and setting aflame a huge Undertaker symbol. Then came a final warning for the self-proclaimed Silverback: “Mark Henry…. Unforgiven…. You will rest in peace.” Are Mark Henry’s days of domination coming to an end at the hands of The Phenom?

One Superstar who knows Undertaker well is his brother Kane, who was in action against Finlay in WWE’s first-ever Belfast Brawl. The brutal rivalry between these two Superstars reached a whole new level Friday night, as the Big Red Monster and the Irishman, quite frankly, beat the living hell out of each other. Late in the grueling contest, Kane seemed to gain the advantage and readied himself to use the steel steps as a weapon. But Finlay would neutralize the threat with a steel chair to the monster’s ribs, then picked up the victory with a devastating Celtic Cross.

In other SmackDown action, Chuck Palumbo and Kenny Dykstra both became involved in Michelle McCool’s match against Victoria, causing a double disqualification. But then General Manager Theodore Long ordered that a Mixed Tag Team Match take place, and the budding rivalries between all four individuals heated up once more. Palumbo’s dominant streak continued to roll forward as he nearly decapitated Dykstra with a clothesline that sent him flying over the top rope. It also gave Michelle the opening she needed to nail the deranged Victoria with a kick to the head for the victory.

Also, Shannon Moore defeated Jamie Noble after outsmarting his fellow cruiserweight. As the match progressed, Moore screamed that the little bastard son of Mr. McMahon, Hornswoggle, was under the ring. As an incensed Noble went looking for the Cruiserweight Champion of the World, Moore rolled him up for the pin instead, once again giving Noble the short end of the stick.

Matches
Michelle McCool vs. Victoria (Double Disqualification)
Michelle McCool & Chuck Palumbo def. Victoria & Kenny Dykstra
Shannon Moore def. Jamie Noble
Domino def. United States Champion MVP (Non-title)
Finlay def. Kane (Belfast Brawl)
Batista def. The Great Khali (Non-title, disqualification)

WWE Unforgiven PPV Results: 9-16-07

Real-time results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's coverage)

They started with an Undertaker-related Unforgiven video package. Classic Buried Alive footage and Misty the Rat made a cross-promotional appearance. The usual Jesus-like imagery of Taker rising again. Except, Taker has risen like 58 times by now.

Joey Styles handled the show introductions with Tazz. No around-the-horn intros with the Raw and Smackdown announce teams. Instead, they're going right to the ECW Title match to start the show. Styles and Tazz have great seats to watch the rest of the show after this match. Instead of going right to the action, they aired a long video package on Punk's journey to the title. Elijah Burke was already in the ring following the video.

1 -- C.M. PUNK vs. ELIJAH BURKE -- ECW Title match

They went through the feeling out process as the fans were getting settled in, then Punk blasted Burke in the back with a swift kick to wake everyone up. And if they weren't awake after that strike, Punk smashed Burke in the face with a knee in the corner. He then nailed a springboard clothesline at 5:00 for a nearfall. Burke decided to recuperate on the outside and he lured Punk into a hard slam off the apron directly onto the floor mat. Back in the ring, Burke then went into a sustained attack on the lower back. He slapped on a Boston Crab and Punk screamed out in pain before finally reaching the bottom rope to break the hold. After that hold, Burke went for a modified Texas cloverleaf, but with an unnatural contort by standing over Punk's head. When Punk wouldn't give up, Burke screamed at him in frustration because he wouldn't quit. Suddenly, and out of nowhere, Punk rolled up Burke with a forward roll to score a three count for the win.

WINNER: Punk in 12:00 to retain the ECW Title. Not a bad way to start the show with solid competition in the ring, but the match stayed in first gear with Burke focusing his attack on Punk's back for several minutes. (**)

Michael Cole and JBL introduced themselves from ringside. JBL opted to fix his hair after appearing on Smackdown with bright highlights. Cole and JBL then broke down the program between Matt Hardy and MVP.

2 -- MATT HARDY & MVP vs. DEUCE & DOMINO (w/Cherry) -- WWE Tag Title match

Matt and MVP couldn't agree on who should start the match, so MVP insisted that Hardy start the match off. MVP then slapped himself into the match to face the Greasers, who are sporting black t-shirts and dark blue jeans for a different look. MVP went to the second rope and started using Matt's trademark scream and hand signal, which Hardy took offense to. Hardy then tagged himself in and did his combo scream and signal before nailing a double axe handle smash. Hardy went for tit-for-tat by doing MVP's dance move and ballin' fade-away shot before dropping an elbow. MVP jumped in the ring in disgust, which distracted the ref, allowing the Greasers to take control with a double team. Hardy tried to make a tag after escaping the beat down, but MVP walked away from the ring in disgust. Hardy kicked out of a double team move, then MVP reluctantly ran back to the ring to stand on the apron. Hardy then ducked a clothesline from Deuce and slapped in MVP, who paused before coming in to clean house. MVP then bounced off the ropes for the ballin' elbow drop, but Hardy blind tagged himself in. Hardy then shoved MVP head-first into Domino to knock him off the apron and he nailed the Twist of Fate on Deuce for the pin and the win. Afterward, Hardy kept the tag title belts to himself before throwing down the U.S. Title to MVP.

WINNERS: Hardy & MVP in 10:00 to retain the WWE Tag Titles. Standard tag match with no one in the arena believing The Greasers had any chance of winning the match. The storyline with Hardy and MVP continues to be one of the more intriguing programs in the company. (*1/2)

3 -- TRIPLE H vs. CARLITO -- No DQ for Carlito only

Carlito tried to jumpstart the match with right hand blows, but Hunter quickly responded with right hands of his own. Carlito slipped out of the ring in search of weaponry, but Hunter pulled him back into the ring and went on the offensive attack. Back on the outside, Carlito swung and missed with a chair shot before Hunter rammed him back-first into the ringpost and rolled him back into the ring to start working on Carlito's back. Hunter played with the referee on an abdominal stretch before Carlito rolled to the outside and surprised Hunter with a ring bell shot to the face. Carlito then choked Hunter with a TV cable chord and hung him over the bottom rope with the chord. So much for WWE never referencing Chris Benoit again. Carlito tried to spit apple in Hunter's face, but Hunter punched Carlito square in the gut to release the apple into the air. Carlito recovered and smashed Hunter in the face with a trashcan repeatedly. He then slammed Hunter back-first across a second trashcan for a nearfall. Hunter then ducked a clothesline and hit a Harley Race knee-smash before hitting a facebuster for a nearfall. Hunter landed repeated fist shots before the ref reprimanded him. Carlito then threw powder in the eyes to subdue Hunter. He tried a chair shot on Hunter, but Hunter ducked and nailed a spinebuster before picking up the chair. The ref took the chair away, which allowed Hunter to low blow Carlito behind the ref's back. He then nailed the Pedigree on Carlito for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Hunter in 10:00. Serviceable gimmick match with enough tricks in the bag to keep the match interesting. No one in the building expected Carlito to win, but there were enough dicey moments for Hunter to create the slightest bit of doubt during the match. Hunter overcomes the slightly stacked deck to continue the rebuilding process. (**1/4)

4 -- CANDICE MICHELLE vs. BETH PHOENIX -- Women's Title match

Candice tried to figure out how to work around Beth's size advantage in the opening minutes. Beth then went to work on Candice's lower back. There was an old Adam Sandler tape where he went around asking people on the street whether someone is lifting weights in the gym or having sex. That's rather appropriate for this match. Beth put Candice up in a back breaker hold and pounded her firsts down on Candice's stomach to try to force a submission, but Candice fought out and hit a neckbreaker to start her comeback. It was short-lived, though, as Beth rammed Candice hard into the corner turnbuckle before landing forearm smashes to the face. Beth then landed a military press and rolled Candice over to make a lackadaisical cover for a nearfall. Beth got lazy on an overhead toss attempt and Candice quickly countered with a crucifix pin for the three count. Afterward, Beth was beside herself in shock.

WINNER: Candice in 8:00 to retain the Women's Title. We have the makings of the female version of John Cena with the booking, just without the hot crowd element. (*)

They aired a video package on the No Mercy PPV in three weeks. Quite a turnaround that WWE is far from prepared for.
