Jeez, I didn't even watch TNA last night and I had no clue about this whole boycotting detail. I wonder how well it went...

WWE Smackdown Results: 8-17-07

Hand-slotted reprisal
By Alissa Fuhrman
August 17, 2007

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Our fans at the Mohegan Sun Arena hit the jackpot when they witnessed a WrestleMania 23 rematch on Friday Night SmackDown: Kane versus the World Heavyweight Champion, The Great Khali, in non-title action. Despite having a battered rib cage, the Big Red Machine fought hard. Unfortunately, his attempt to chokeslam the 7-foot-3 colossus was stopped short as his skull was forcefully clutched in Khali’s Vise Grip. With Kane on his knees, Finlay found a golden opportunity for revenge against his attack earlier that night, and attacked the Big Red Monster’s ribs. Already irritated from the humiliation he endured at the hands of Khali last week, The Animal ran out to stop the Irishman and the giant, only to again fall to the Khali Vise Grip.

A little VIP treatment awaited Matt Hardy Friday night when he and our fans joined the flashy United States Champion in “MVP’s VIP Lounge.” Matt arrived at the Ballin’ lounge, prepared for anything that the Franchise Playa could throw at him…or so he thought. Reiterating that he couldn’t compete in their next challenge, a Boxing Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, due to his recently treated heart condition, the swaggering Superstar assured that his replacement – boxing’s only four-time Heavyweight Champion of the World, Evander Holyfield – would get the job done. MVP had an additional surprise contest in store for Hardy this night: Chris Masters and his Master Lock Challenge. Matt looked like he might have been up to the challenge and actually break Masters’ hold, until MVP repeatedly kicked Hardy’s exposed mid-section and laid him out with the Playmaker.

A week ago, Jamie Noble had cost Finlay a match against Matt Hardy when he tried to attack the fighting Irishman’s miniature comrade and Cruiserweight Champion of the World, Hornswoggle. On Friday night, Finlay made Noble pay dearly for his actions, working his knee and nearly ending the contest with a Celtic Cross -- until Kane suddenly appeared to deliver some week-old payback of his own. But while Kane attacked the Irishman, Noble unexpectedly got shoved into the Big Red Machine by Hornswoggle. In return, an incensed Kane handed Noble a hellacious chokeslam.

In other SmackDown action, a focused Chavo Guerrero made an example of what he plans to do to Rey Mysterio when he makes his big return at the Biggest Party of the Summer one week from Sunday. Aggressively manhandling and defeating Shannon Moore with a brainbuster wasn’t enough for Chavo to end his Friday night fun, however. Instead, the former Cruiserweight Champion, hoping Rey was watching at home, mocked the Master of the 619 by putting a replica mask over Moore’s head, then hitting the Frog Splash to injure his downed opponent’s knee.

Mark Henry also provided his own entertainment Friday night, by obliterating Brad Cardona and finishing him off with a catastrophic bear hug. But as the self-proclaimed Silverback once again showed video footage of his attack on Undertaker last May, disturbing footage from Death Valley suddenly aired on the TitanTron, the lights flickered and a familiar death knell sounded. The World’s Strongest Man looked increasingly uneasy as two Druids stood outside the ring, then vanished after a flash of light, leaving a mound of sand with footprints inside.

Raw’s Executive Assistant Jonathan Coachman wasn’t exactly following footprints so much as he was trying to help Mr. McMahon uncover which Superstar could be Mr. McMahon’s illegitimate child. The search brought them to Uncasville Friday night, but the Chairman’s past “indiscretions” could have been linked to anyone, from The Great Khali to Kane to Funaki to even Big Dick Johnson. Could one of the SmackDown Superstars have the Chairman in their blood? As Coachman told Mr. McMahon on Raw the other night, he may have an answer come Saturday Night’s Main Event; until then, the WWE locker rooms will remain abuzz.

A much happier conversation took place within the SmackDown General Manager’s confines, as glowing bride-to-be Kristal asked Torrie Wilson and Michelle McCool to be her bridesmaids when she and GM Theodore Long say “I do” on SmackDown Sept. 21. Victoria, accompanied by boy toy Kenny Dykstra, entered the room and expressed her disappointment that she wasn’t included in the bridal party, while Michelle countered that the best gift they could give would be if they didn’t show up at the wedding. After Victoria and Michelle furiously clawed each other, Long ordered the feisty vixens to take their frustrations out in the ring. It was apparent that the deranged Diva didn’t want Michelle loving life anymore, as she trash-talked and pounded mercilessly at the sexy Diva. Amazingly, SmackDown’s All-American Girl quickly turned things around with a authoritative kick to the head and a top-rope clothesline to score the pinfall.

In other SmackDown action, The Major Brothers faced WWE Tag Team Champions Deuce & Domino in a non-title match. The contest could have gone either way until Brian Major’s attempted crossbody for the victory missed Deuce, allowing the hot-headed Superstar to quickly take advantage with the pinfall.

Matches
Chris Masters def. Matt Hardy (Master Lock Challenge)
WWE Tag Team Champions Deuce & Domino def. The Major Brothers (Non-Title Match)
Finlay vs. Jamie Noble (No Contest)
Chavo Guerrero def. Shannon Moore
Mark Henry def. Brad Cardona
Michelle McCool def. Victoria
World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali def. Kane (Non-Title Match)

WWE Saturday Night Main Event Results: 8-18-07

Source of results: PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's report). Edited for length.

1 -- BATISTA & KANE vs. FINLAY & World Hvt. champion GREAT KHALI

Kane and Finlay started things off exchanging forearm blows. Batista quickly tagged in and worked on Finlay before they cut to a break.

They returned with Khali working on Kane's injured ribs. He then put the claw on the ribs to centralize his attack. Kane tried to mount a comeback, but Khali nailed him with a big boot to the face. Finlay tagged in and Kane quickly dropped him before tagging out to Batista, who fired up on Finlay. Suddenly, Hornswoggle slipped into the ring and Batista rammed him into Finlay. Khali then entered the ring and the babyfaces tied him up in the ropes. They then used Hornswoggle as a battering ram into Khali's gut. Khali escaped, though, and tried a double chokeslam, but the babyfaces countered into a double chokeslam of their own. Batista then measured Finlay and speared him. He set up for the Batistabomb on Finlay and connected for the pin and the win.

WINNERS: Batista & Kane in 8:00. Good TV match opener with a satisfying finish for the casual audience. They effectively focused on the Batista vs. Khali issue for Summerslam. (*1/2)

They cut to the ring where Coach and Vince McMahon were standing to discuss Vince's illegitimate offspring. Coach said attorneys have informed them that since DNA tests take so long, Coach has circumvented the process to find out himself on his own research. Coach said they are going to locate his child. Vince asked Coach to get on with it. Coach then built up Vince as a man with urges being on the road for weeks at a time. Vince screamed at Coach this time to get on with it. Coach then said this person could be his child. After a pause, Eugene's music hit and Vince looked into space with annoyance. Eugene then hit the ring and Vince said he had sex with a stranger, not a cousin. Eugene then said his Uncle Eric (Bischoff) said Vince nailed his mom and that's why he went into the wrestling business to destroy him. Eugene said he loves him, but Vince told him to buzz off. Out next as possible child was Melina. Vince said she's not his daughter. Melina looked out of one eye with her other eye being covered. Vince then whispered in Coach's ear why she couldn't be his daughter. Vince told Melina that it was just a typical July 4th celebration and the meeting that took place will be totally harmless. In other words, they had sex. Melina snapped the mic away and said that if it turns she's his daughter, she's going to take every cent he has. She stormed away, then Vince screamed that she's an ungrateful bitch.

Coach had one more person to run by Vince. After a long pause, the glass broke and Steve Austin hit the ring with Vince doing the big gulp. Austin then went to all four corners to salute the crowd. Austin then took the mic and said Vince could be his dad, good 'ole pops, his old man, or maybe he could be Vince's seed. The fruit of Vince's loins. The result of what came from Vince's grapefruits. Vince cut him off and said there's no chance in hell. Austin said that's too bad because they missed out on so many good things in life. Play catch. See a football game. Build a go-cart. Talk about the birds and the bees. Austin said Vince seems to know so much about that, obviously. He said they also missed sharing that first beer together. And numbers two through seven. Vince screamed that he doesn't care how many beers. Austin said he's making it real easy for him to come out here in MSG and stun his ass. Vince then said stunning him would be pointless. Austin said he doesn't need to stun him, just something to cure the overactive grapefruits. Austin then landed a mule kick and a hard low blow. Coach screamed that he can't do that to Vince. Austin then took the clipboard and looked it over before stunning Coach in the middle of the ring. Austin then accepted a few beers and celebrated. He doused Vince's loins with the beers, then celebrated in all four corners. Coach accepted a similar fate to Vince, who started to reach his feet. Austin then shoved a cold beer into Vince's crotch for cold relief. Austin took the mic again and said everybody probably knew that was going to happen his first night back in the Garden. He then offered Vince a cold beer to celebrate. Vince accepted and slowly took a sip before accepting a Stunner to cap it off. It never gets old. Austin then celebrated on the stage with a "TNA sucks" sign over his left shoulder in the bleachers.

2 -- WWE champion JOHN CENA vs. CARLITO -- non-title match

Cena quickly went on the offensive with forearm blows. He punted Carlito in the gut before slamming him head-first into the corner turnbuckle. Carlito then found himself on the apron and he suckered Cena in for a kick to the face. He then dumped Cena to the floor before they cut to a break.

They returned with Carlito pounding on Cena on the mat. He landed more left hand blows before Cena came back with a forearm blow. He then went up top and landed a guillotine leg drop before slapping on the STFU. Carlito quickly tapped out.

Immediately after the match, Orton stormed the ring and attacked him from behind. Orton then whipped Cena hard into the ring steps on the outside. He stalked Cena's fallen body before picking up a steel chair and setting it up ringside. Orton grappled Cena's neck and dragged him over to the chair. After teasing the RKO, Orton nailed the RKO on the seat of the chair, bending the chair in half. Brutal from the camera angle. Cena crashed to the floor as they showed crowd shots of kids in shock. There was a "Randy Orton...sucks" chant with the Cena fans filling in the "sucks". Orton continued to stare down Cena as they sold the story. Referees came to ringside and pulled Orton away as the kids continued to be in a state of shock.

WINNER: Cena via submission in 6:00. The match was rushed, but the post-match was terrific storytelling. Where has this build-up been all this time? My goodness, that was the best segment in the feud and they saved it for a SNME show that hardly anyone is going to watch. (*)

3 -- MATT HARDY vs. EVANDER HOLYFIELD (w/MVP) -- boxing match

Two minute rounds for the fight. Holyfield quickly moved Hardy to the corner and landed blows to the chest. MVP continued to talk from the ring apron after Holyfield was backed to the corner. Holyfield landed a few jabs to the face to stagger Hardy backward. MVP jumped back on the apron as the referee administered a ten count on Hardy, who reached his feet at eight. Holyfield landed more right hand blows and Hardy fell to the canvas. He reached his feet at nine and the first round ended. This didn't present Hardy in a favorable light.

MVP jawed with Holyfield's trainer in between rounds, as Hardy staggered to his corner for rest. The divas then strutted in the ring with the second round cards. The second round started with Hardy seated on his stool before staggering to his feet. Holyfield questioned fighting Hardy then MVP entered the ring and started screaming to call for the bell. MVP put his hand on Holyfield's shoulder to tell him what to do, so Holyfield KO'ed him with a quick and hard right hand blow. The ref called for the bell, then Holyfield congratulated Hardy and embraced him. Holyfield left as doctors checked on MVP. Hardy left the ring after smiling.

WINNER: Hardy via referee's decision. Well, that was random. Holyfield KO'ing MVP looked pretty good, but the boxing portion of the segment didn't get over with the crowd. (n/a)

4 -- THE BOOGEYMAN & C.M. PUNK vs. ECW champion JOHN MORRISON & BIG DADDY V (w/Matt Striker)

Punk and Morrison started things off. Punk clotheslined Morrison to the floor before they cut to a break.

Boogeyman back dropped Morrison onto his back out of the break, then Boogeyman grabbed a mouth full of worms. Matt Striker hopped on the apron to distract Boogeyman, allowing Viscera to jump in and attack Boogeyman from behind. Viscera went for a corner splash, but Boogeyman moved and tagged out to Punk, who cleaned house on Morrison. Suddenly, Punk went for a small package and scored a pin on the slowest small package count in history. Afterward, Morrison held his jaw as Punk stared him down. They quickly cut to a break.

WINNERS: Punk & Boogeyman in 7:00. Very quick and to the point. Just a match to give the babyface a victory over the champion before Summerslam. (3/4*)

As someone else said in one of my other forums and I agree, it was fun. Not epic but compared to RAW and Smackdown as of late, it was a good watch. The McMahon/ Austin segment was a little stretched out but Austin got by far the biggest pop of the night from the MSG crowd.

Royally wrong: King Booker mocks Triple H with imposter
By Corey Clayton
August 20, 2007

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – King Booker wanted a royal coronation, and he got one. And the “gracious” king that he is, he even gave our fans Triple H.

Or so it appeared. King Booker called out his SummerSlam opponent, The King of Kings, Triple H. He ordered The Game to come to the ring and crown King Booker the one, true king of WWE. And the Carolina fans got The Game.

That is, if Triple H was left in a clothes dryer way too long during his absence.

Sporting a crown, animal skins, a fake nose and long blond wig, a very undersized imposter posing as the 10-time World Champion came out to The Game’s theme music, and crowned the 2006 King of the Ring tournament winner.

The imposter then bowed at King Booker and Queen Sharmell’s feet, to the delight of the royal couple. As the crowd booed the charade, King Booker promised that Triple H’s return at the Biggest Party of the Summer would be a fruitful one for him and Sharmell.

“I, King Booker, the one true king, will make you bow down,” Booker proclaimed to the imposter.

King Booker’s attention then turned toward the announcers’ desk, and Jerry “The King” Lawler’s longtime broadcast colleague, Jim Ross. Lawler was conspicuous by his absence; he was home nursing the injuries he has received from King Booker after he refused to officially crown him king on Raw last week at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Booker demanded that Ross apologize for the negative remarks he made about the monarch after the beating. When Ross refused twice, Sharmell jumped on his back, forcing the commentator’s head into Booker’s ring.

The Oklahoman had fierce words for King Booker after the incident.

“It’s Game on, my friend … Game on at SummerSlam for you,” J.R. proclaimed.

In other Raw action, Mr. McMahon announced that his illegitimate child was a male WWE Superstar. But we still did not know the identity of the Chairman’s love child by night’s end, though we may have seen a few hints.

Mr. McMahon hopes that his illegitimate son has the characteristics of certain Superstars, but WWE Champion John Cena is not one of them. He earned The Champ’s wrath when he told Cena he may have slept with his mother. When Cena slapped Mr. McMahon to the mat, the Chairman responded by making him face the undefeated Snitsky in the night’s main event.

The deranged giant promised the Chairman that he would make Cena feel true pain, but The Champ fought valiantly. As Cena looked to deliver the FU to Snitsky, Orton ran into the ring and RKO’d Cena.

Then, as Cena staggered to his feet, Orton blasted The Champ with yet another RKO. The Legend Killer picked up the WWE Championship, and glared down at his unconscious SummerSlam foe. Was this a sign of what awaits Cena at SummerSlam?

In a match to determine the Intercontinental Champion Umaga’s opponent for SummerSlam, Carlito and Kennedy faced each other after the Green Bay gladiator interrupted “Carlito’s Cabana,” with the Samoan Bulldozer. After a superplex, both competitors’ shoulders were on the mat when the referee made the three-count, forcing him to rule the match a draw.

Raw GM William Regal immediately made the Intercontinental Championship Match at SummerSlam a Triple Threat Match. Both Kennedy and Carlito argued in the ring after the announcement.

The World Tag Team Champions Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch were upset by high-flyers Paul London & Brian Kendrick in non-title action.

As the boys from Brooklyn, N.Y., Cryme Tyme, came down to ringside and tried to auction off Murdoch’s trucker cap, the distraction caused enough confusion for the champions to allow Kendrick to snare Cade in a crucifix to earn the three-count.

Meanwhile, Murdoch needs a new cap. One lucky fan bought it for just $2.

Also, the current Women’s Champion Candice Michelle teamed with Mickie James to defeat Melina & Beth Phoenix in tag-team action. Coming off the announcement of a tri-branded Divas Battle Royal by Regal and a guaranteed title opportunity for the winner, Mickie threw Candice from the ring after the match. Then Melina attacked James and tossed her out to the ringside mat. Finally, Beth Phoenix threw Melina over the top rope to the floor, showing that there will be no friends, only foes, at SummerSlam.

Cody Rhodes continued his winning ways after he converted a Boston Crab attempt by Shelton Benjamin into a small package to gain a pinfall over the Self-Proclaimed World’s Greatest Tag Team member. After the loss, Benjamin and his partner, Charlie Haas, attacked the young Superstar.

Matches
Women’s Champion Candice Michelle and Mickie James def. Melina and Beth Phoenix
Cody Rhodes def. Shelton Benjamin
Brian Kendrick & Paul London def. World Tag Team Champions Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch (non-title)
Carlito vs. Mr. Kennedy for the No. 1 Contendership for the Intercontinental Championship (draw, double pin)
John Cena def. Snitsky (disqualification)

Yeah, it wasn't anything spectacular. Seemed to be more talk than usual.

I really hope Raw gets better because lately I'm liking Smackdown a lot more.

Undertaker will be facing a slew of large opponents when he returns to the ring this fall.

He's scheduled to make his return at the Unforgiven pay-per-view. He will be facing Mark Henry. Taker will probably be the one to put Henry out of action for good in the storylines as Henry is likely finishing up with WWE when his contract expires in a few weeks.

In a return feud from about 12 years ago, Undertaker will be facing Big Daddy V. Plans have been made to build Big Daddy V up as a monster in ECW, then move him to SmackDown sometime in the fall to feud with the top babyface talents of the brand -- including Undertaker.

Taker is also scheduled to feud with The Great Khali again.

ECW on Sci-Fi Results: 8-21-07

Strange days over?
By Andrew Rote
August 21, 2007

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Heading into ECW on Sci Fi this week, it appeared SummerSlam could be the end for ECW Champion John Morrison. Nothing had been going right for weeks, capped off with a loss to his arch-nemesis and pay-per-view opponent CM Punk in tag team action at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Morrison & The Miz, however, notched a win against the Straightedge Superstar with Boogeyman when Morrison got the three-count on Punk. The win could be a resurrection of sorts for the titleholder, who was searching for inspiration as the Biggest Party of the Summer quickly approaches. Our fans will learn Sunday if this is an awakening or if the third time is not a charm for the ECW Champion when Morrison and Punk square off once more for the gold.

While Tuesday night ended with a crash of lightning, a roll of thunder started the evening as Big Daddy V stomped into the ring to take on Tommy Dreamer in an Extreme Rules Match. Much to the ECW Original’s disappointment, Matt Striker’s protégé beat Dreamer at his own game. Absolutely nothing has slowed down the monstrous student, and despite having as much experience as any other ECW Superstar, Dreamer was another name to add to the beast’s menu.

Another ECW Original had a much better night. Balls Mahoney may have earned three wins on ECW on Sci Fi if the cards fall the way he wants them to. Mahoney got the better of Elijah Burke after having struggled against the cocky Superstar ever since the self-proclaimed Guiding Light of ECW joined Tuesday night’s roster.

Just earlier, the Chair-Swinging Freak learned he could very well be Mr. McMahon’s illegitimate son. If being in that position wasn’t enough good news for the ECW Original, an unusually nice Miz told him Kelly might go out with him if he is in fact a McMahon. Kelly didn’t answer, but they locked eyes and smiled as she parted.

Matches
Big Daddy V def. Tommy Dreamer (Extreme Rules)
Balls Mahoney def. Elijah Burke
ECW Champion John Morrison & The Miz def. CM Punk & Boogeyman

TNA News

There are of course a lot of internal talks in TNA about starting a drug testing program. The final call will be up to Dixie Carter but now that Congress is in contact with them, they recognize that something has to be put in place.

Spike TV is moving UFC from their Thursday night slot on the 20th September. The current contract for Impact expires on the 30th, so TNA's first show under a new deal would be the 4th October. They are expected to get the extra hour vacated by UFC, with tapings held every second Monday or Tuesday.

Jeff Jarrett went to a Linkin Park gig in Tampa with the Bollea family to celebrate Hulk Hogan's 54th birthday recently. Some things are just so weird they inspire unwellness.

USA Network begins its coverage of U.S. Open Tennis so it'll be on Sci-Fi this Monday only. They also bump it there every year for the dog show too.

TNA Impact! Results: 8-23-07

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's report)

1 -- ROBERT ROODE & MS. BROOKS vs. KAZ & GAIL KIM

Roode and Brooks teased tension after Brooks was feathered at the PPV while Roode only watched. Per the formula, the camera followed Gail to the ring instead of the male talent. Roode then jumped Kaz before the bell. Tenay plugged the Mobile service while Roode isolated Kaz. He talked about everything else going on in TNA, then Kaz made a comeback. Gail then came in and went after Brooks while Kaz took Roode to the outside with a clothesline. Gail scored with a small package roll up on Brooks for the win.

After the match, Brooks and Roode had a brief argument. Roode told Brooks that he owns her and he would have her fired. Kaz then re-entered the ring and shoved Roode aside. Roode piefaced him, then Kaz came back with right hand blows. Kaz landed a big martial arts kick sending Roode to the floor. Brooks had a shocked look on her face, then Kaz took the mic. He said there are two things wrong with Roode. He called him a prick. He said Roode has no idea how to treat a real lady. Oh, this is good with Kaz and Brooks. Kaz then gave Roode a kiss on the cheek. She had a smile on her face.

WINNERS: Kaz & Gail in 3:00. As usual, the match was secondary to the post-match. A nice development for Brooks's character, as she's been stale for months. Kaz was secondary to Gail until after the match, so it was nice to see him get some focus. (1/2*)

They went to a video package on Christian Cage being in a somber mood at his home last Tuesday. Styles and Tomko were there to console him in his time of mourning. Christian said he didn't think he would be able to make Impact this week. He cried about his livelihood being taken away from him by Samoa Joe. Christian gave his final request just to make him proud. Styles said revenge is coming. Tomko wasn't convinced.

[Commercial Break]

[Q2]

They aired a video package on James Storm driving around town looking for Rhino. He drove down a street looking for Rhino, who he called a liar for saying he kicked the drinking. Storm went to some bars looking for a big fat guy. He went to the sleaziest place he could find, but he didn't find him. Storm said wherever there's alcohol, Rhino will be there. He walked into a bar and the owner told him to get out. A random drunk approached him, so Storm decked him. The bar owner kicked him out. Storm said he would find Rhino. To be continued...

Backstage in Jim Cornette's office, Kurt Angle demanded some tender loving care. Cornette sent Matt Morgan away, then Angle built up Karen Angle as a nice, lovely lady without a harmful bone in her body. Cornette started to cut a promo on Karen, but Karen snapped at Cornette. Angle told her to sit down and shut up. He asked Cornette how fair a tag match against the Steiners is. Cornette said it's fair tonight, but next week, they're having a lottery to determine Angle's partner for his title defense at the PPV.

They aired a Dustin Rhodes video package. He said Chris Harris choking on his own blood wasn't enough. Black Reign is going to downpour his blood on Harris until he feels his very last breath. Disturbing, again, in a change-the-channel way.

2 -- RON KILLINGS vs. ERIC YOUNG

Young ducked a clothesline, then played cat and mouse with Killings before knocking Killings to the floor with a clothesline. He followed with a suicide dive, brought to us by Superbad. They quickly cut to a break.

[Commercial Break]

They returned after a five-minute commercial break with Killings landing a leg whip to the head. Tenay received word that Dustin Rhodes is in the Impact Zone watching the match-up and he's been cheering for Eric Young throughout the match. They cut to a shot of the top of the building where Rhodes was dressed for a NASCAR race. Killings continued to work on Young while Tenay and West talked about everything else going on in TNA. Killings then retrieved a chair and slid it into the ring. The ref tried to prevent him from using the chair, then Young kicked the chair into Killings's head. Young landed right hand blows, then he picked up the chair and teased using it, but the ref yanked it away. Young ignored the chair and went on the offensive before going up top. Killings and the ref had an exchange, then Killings caught Young with a chair shot to the head with the ref turning his back to look for something in his eye. Killings then hit an axe kick for the win.

WINNER: Killings and advertisers in 9:00. More time spent on the commercial than on the match. Typical referee incompetence for a TV match. (3/4*)

[Q3]

After the match, Killings took the mic and built up Pacman Jones before bringing out his dawg. Jones walked out with a spraycan in hand. He embraced Killings, then Jones measured Eric Young for an NWO-style spraying. Killings said this is a great SportsCenter moment. "Sportscenter?! SPORTSCENTER?!" West screamed, ala Jim Mora with the famous "Playoffs? Playoffs?!" line at a press conference back in the day. Unintentional comedy at its finest. Killings and Jones embraced after finishing the job on Young.

Tomko and Styles arrived in the building and asked Jeremy Borash where Samoa Joe is. Team 3D then interrupted and Brother Ray said reality has a way of humbling you. Ray said they've been walking around TNA the last few weeks acting like a bunch of jerks. He humbly said they would like to apologize to the Steiners and the fans. Ray said this isn't the Team 3D that fans signed up to watch. He said they're not going to be a bunch of jackoffs anymore doing stupid stuff. Devon summed it up: we're sorry.

[Commercial Break]

Styles and Tomko were standing outside of Samoa Joe's locker room, then Joe flung the door open and brought Tomko in. Styles pounded on the door, then Joe flung it open again and Styles sheepishly asked if Tomko was in there. Joe then chased after Styles.

Back to the Impact zone, Styles was chased to ringside by Joe. They brawled into the ring where Joe landed right hand blows and a clothesline on Styles. Tomko then stormed the ring and distracted Joe, allowing Christian Cage to sneak in from behind and land a chair shot on Joe. Again, Joe looks like an idiot for being gullible. Unbelievable. Christian landed a chair shot to the head on Joe for the exclamation mark.

Backstage, Karen Angle was stretching while Kurt laughed to himself on a couch. Angle asked Karen if she's a wrestler or a baton twirler with her jogging suit. Borash held the mic while Kurt convinced Karen to have some faith in him. Karen grabbed Kurt around the neck and told Kurt to stick the belts where the sun doesn't shine. She left, then Kurt told Borash not to get married.

Time for a James Mitchell dark promo. He congratulated Abyss on receiving his title shot at the PPV. Mitchell asked Abyss if he enjoyed the little surprise from under the ring a few weeks ago. He said vengeance will be his, as his son is coming. Judas Messias is about to be unleashed on the world. Mitchell pulled out the right hand of his son and held it to the camera before taking a drink from his goblet.

[Q4]

3 -- KURT ANGLE (w/Karen Angle) vs. RICK & SCOTT STEINER -- handicap match -- Steiners get five minutes with Karen if they win

Test...er...Scott started things off with Kurt. Scott landed a series of shoulder tackles to drive Angle back to a neutral corner. Angle then kicked Scott in the gut before landing a European uppercut. Scott quickly came back with an elbow-kiss drop before teasing Karen. Angle rolled out of the ring to console a concerned Karen before they cut to a break.

[Commercial Break]

They returned with the Steiners in control on Angle. Rick took a tag, then Karen grabbed Rick's leg to distract him. Tenay received a memo. Someone's winning the lottery: a four-way match to determine Angle's partner at Hard Justice and one-half of the tag champions. Christian vs. Styles vs. Sting vs. Joe next week. Tenay and West talked about next week's match while Angle worked on Rick. Angle went for the Olympic Slam, but Rick countered into a belly-to-belly suplex. Rick then crawled to his corner for a tag to Scott. Angle walked into a belly-to-belly suplex before Scott landed a series of open hand chops to the chest. The Steiners tried to set up a double team move, but Rick was distracted by Karen on the outside. Angle landed an Olympic Slam on Scott for a nearfall, then Karen ran through the ring and Rick gave chase. Angle then walked into a slam from Rick. Karen screamed as Rick came off the middle rope with a bulldog. Karen then distracted the ref allowing Team 3D to hit the ring and give Rick the 3D. Angle then made the cover on Rick for the win.

After the match, Team 3D gave Scott the 3D for good measure. Meanwhile, the Angles left with all the gold. West, who buys everything hook line and sinker, said he thought Team 3D was being so sincere backstage earlier. The Steiners brought a table into the ring and Ray landed a top rope powerbomb through the table. They stood tall over the Steiners to close the show.

WINNER: Angle in 11:00. And the crafty veteran tag team feud must continue! Match was good at times, but fell apart at the end with Karen running around wherever she pleased and the usual referee incompetence on a TV match. Post-match effectively built toward the next stage of Steiners vs. Team 3D. Meanwhile, the X Division wrestlers miss another payday. (*1/2)

WWE Smackdown Results: 8-24-07

Hell's spawn
By Lennie DiFino
August 24, 2007

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Just 48 hours before he challenges The Great Khali for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, Batista stepped into the ring to face Finlay on SmackDown Friday night. The Animal and the fighting Irishman – who will also be at SummerSlam, as Kane demanded of Mr. McMahon a one-on-one encounter with Finlay at the Biggest Party of the Summer – physically decimated each other throughout the match until the World Heavyweight Champion made his way to ringside. When Batista seemingly had the match in his favor, Khali interfered and the two behemoths collided. As Khali attempted to apply his vicious Khali Vise Grip, Batista blocked the clutches and then unleashed an assault on the champion, sending a strong message before SummerSlam.

The United States Champion, Montel Vontavious Porter, had hoped the fists of Evander Holyfield would send a clear message to Matt Hardy at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Instead, it was MVP who was left in a heap after he got in “The Real Deal’s” face. Dissatisfied with that outcome, Porter issued a new challenge to back up his claims that he is better than Hardy – a One-on-One Basketball Challenge. The contest, however, came on the heels of General Manager Theodore Long’s announcement that next week on SmackDown, MVP must team with Matt and compete against Deuce & Domino for the WWE Tag Team Titles. As a result, the champions took full advantage of the basketball challenge, and left both Hardy and the Ballin’ Superstar laid out.

While the investigation into his paternity suit continues, Mr. McMahon was on SmackDown Friday night with the hopes of finding any clues to the identity of his illegitimate son. Instead, the Chairman encountered a slew of Superstars claiming to be his offspring, including Kane. At first, he insisted that there was no way “this monster” could be his offspring, but after granting a match with Finlay for SummerSlam, it looked as if Mr. McMahon was warming to the idea. That is, until Chris Masters made his way to the ring and declared he had proof that he was the true son of the Chairman: A photo of the two from The Masterpiece’s childhood. Masters’ may have been overreaching, though, especially when he challenged Kane to take the Master Lock Challenge. Instead, he was Chokeslammed by the Big Red Monster, much to the disappointment of Mr. McMahon.

As if Masters’ night hadn’t been bad enough, then Chuck Palumbo made his way to the ring and dismantled the Masterpiece. Palumbo’s return to SmackDown has been successful as the high-octane Superstar continued his winning ways.

No stranger to victory, the impressive Mark Henry demolished Brad Allen, only to again encounter the same presence that has haunted him throughout his path of destruction over the past several weeks – Undertaker. The World’s Strongest Man keeps insisting that he’s the ruler of the SmackDown jungle… but has he stepped into the domain that has for years been known as the yard of The Phenom?

Another SmackDown Superstar laying out his own share of devastation of late is Chavo Guerrero. In further preparing himself for his SummerSlam encounter against the man he injured 10 months ago, Rey Mysterio, Chavo annihilated Funaki. But instead of simply settling for the win, Guerrero instead opted to make an example out of his prone opponent, slamming a steel chair onto Funaki’s knee. Will Chavo’s aggressive ways help him defeat the returning Rey Mysterio this Sunday at SummerSlam?

Anger and aggression also seemed to follow Jamie Noble around as he continued his pursuit of Hornswoggle and the Cruiserweight Championship of the World. And he may have found it Friday night after defeating Jimmy Wang Yang in a No. 1 Contender’s Match. Having capitalized on this great opportunity, Noble has earned himself another match with Hornswoggle for the title. Can he capitalize this time, or will he fall short once more against SmackDown’s leprechaun?

It wouldn’t be summer without the Sexiest Women on Television. Thankfully, the Divas of SmackDown know this, so they treated our fans to a Biggest Party of the Summer Bikini Contest, only 48 hours before they all take part in SummerSlam’s Divas Battle Royal, the winner of which will become the No. 1 contender against Women’s Champion Candice. Torrie, Victoria, Kristal and Michelle McCool thought they were the only Divas competing in the contest, until SmackDown announcer Michael Cole revealed a surprise for our fans at the University of South Carolina. With that, he called out South Carolina’s own Mae Young, who at 84 years young thrilled our fans in her home state and actually won the contest.

Matches
Chuck Palumbo def. Chris Masters
Chavo Guerrero def. Funaki
Jamie Noble def. Jimmy Wang Yang (No. 1 Cruiserweight Contender's Match)
WWE Tag Team Champions Deuce & Domino def. Shannon Moore & Eugene (Non-title)
Matt Hardy vs. United States Champion MVP - One-on-One Basketball Challenge (No Contest)
Mark Henry def. Brad Allen

Great bikinis until Mae Young came out. Words fail me :oh_no: Loved JBL's comment when she came out: "Could be the next Mrs. Cole." and "Before electricity, she was hot!" Then she tried to strip!!! There came the vomit!!! :eek_2:

TNA News

Source: PWHeadlines.com

-- Apparently, Samoa Joe has continued to air his frustrations out with fellow workers. He has been telling people that he would rather accept an entry level contract with WWE, which is believed to be $50,000 a year, rather than signing an extension with TNA. Joe’s contract is set to expire shortly and has no intentions of resigning once his contract is up.

-- The current plan has Kurt Angle defending all his TNA title successfully at No Surrender next month. He will then defend his titles at Bound for Glory in Atlanta. It’s rumored that he will face the returning Jeff Jarrett.

-- Several TNA wrestlers had complained about Pacman Jones getting his own Winnebago for a dressing room at TNA’s Hard Justice PPV.

Joe would work for the WWE? Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire....
The WWE is a circus, not a place for wrestlers serious about their craft imo. Perhaps Japan would be a better move.
BB
From what I'm hearing, Joe would most likely end up with Japan Pro Wrestling or one of the Japanese wrestling circuit. The statement was more a jab toward how crappy things are going in TNA than actually migrating to the WWE.

Rey Mysterio appeared on Fox News today. He said he had never taken steroids and any investigations would show that all he takes is pain medication. As many other WWE guys have done, he said today's wrestlers were a different breed from those of previous generations. Brian Kilmeade brought up Kurt Angle being four times the size he was in the Olympics being a Dr Phil Astin patient, though Mysterio didn't respond. He did say the wrestlers are there to entertain and plugged SummerSlam. Mysterio brought up his six knee operations as his reason for the pain medication from Dr Astin. He said that although Chris Benoit was a very close friend he never knew that he took steroids as they never discussed the subject. Mysterio seemed uncomfortable when the steroids subject was brought up. It should be noted that reports have already uncovered Dr David Wilbirt in Phoenix, Arizona, prescribing Stanozolol and Nandralone to Oscar Gutierrez. (Credit: WrestlingObserver.com)
