Who blew up Mr. McMahon?!!

WWE sent the following press release to PWTorch.com with hype for the storyline mystery of who blew up Mr. McMahon...

Who Blew Up WWE® Chairman Mr. McMahon?

While some might say “The Sopranos” went out with a whimper, last night on USA Network, WWE's "Monday Night RAW" went out with a bang. At the end of his self-anointed "Mr. McMahon Appreciation Night," WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon entered his limousine when it suddenly exploded. The shocking ending raised a myriad of questions: How could Mr. McMahon have survived the fiery explosion? And who could've committed such a heinous act?

Although full details have not been disclosed, initial reports indicate that Mr. McMahon is presumed dead. An official investigation into Monday night's events is currently underway with no one being ruled out as a suspect. Throughout the night, people from Mr. McMahon's past - from Donald Trump to Snoop Dogg to Bob Costas to Stone Cold Steve Austin - had less than flattering things to say about the WWE Chairman, but would any go so far as to actually blow him up? The question of "whodunit," as well as the fate of Mr. McMahon, will be on everyone's minds as the WWE saga continues on "Monday Night Raw" on USA (9 p.m. ET/8C).

ECW on Sci-Fi Results: 6-12-07

Extreme tribute
By Bryan Robinson
June 12, 2007

PHILADELPHIA – Many critics will debate the legacy of Mr. McMahon for years to come. To some, he was a sports-entertainment visionary who rightfully did anything he had to do to win. To others, he was a ruthless tyrant who crushed opponents both weak and small. But everyone would have to agree that he was the consummate showman – and that he would have wanted his vision to continue even after his presumed death.

And the show did go on Tuesday night, with a very solemn ECW on Sci Fi, the first program following the Chairman’s demise when his limousine exploded on Raw. ECW on Sci Fi was dedicated to the memory of Mr. McMahon, a former ECW World Champion.

The tribute to Mr. McMahon took place in Philadelphia, the birthplace of ECW, and our fans got a dose of both the old and the new – and a little bit of the in-between – in the Land of the Extreme. Our fans got a first look at the two newest additions to ECW since Monday’s WWE Draft – Chris Benoit and Boogeyman.

Benoit, an Original from the first incarnation of ECW, was greeted with a rousing ovation as he teamed with CM Punk – considered by some a future World Champion – against the New Breed’s Elijah Burke & Marcus Cor Von in his return to his roots. Burke & Cor Von desperately wanted to play spoiler and show the Rabid Wolverine that he would not bully them on their turf.

Unfortunately for the New Breed, Benoit had other plans. Benoit & Punk won by disqualification, but Benoit nearly crippled Burke with the Sharpshooter. He showed the New Breed - and all of ECW - why he is one of the greatest technicians in sports-entertainment history.

Meanwhile, Boogeyman repulsed both onlookers and his hapless foe Matt Striker in his ECW debut. The New Breed’s Extreme Educator usually has an answer for everything and is never at a loss for words. There’s no doubt that he wanted to teach the man from the Bottomless Pit a lesson in his introduction to the Land of the Extreme. But Boogeyman befuddled Striker as he slurped down night crawlers and gyrated around the ring. Like so many foes before him, Striker could not find an answer to Boogeyman, who flashed a foam-filled toothless grin after his victory.

And in a dose of an oldie – but a goodie – our fans gasped and roared as Dreamer and Mahoney waged war in an Extreme Rules Match reminiscent of the original-Philadelphia-based ECW. Both showed the guts and innovative use of every weapon imaginable in their battle – which is just one reason why they have been so beloved in their careers. Ultimately, Dreamer, a longtime critic of Mr. McMahon and considered the heart and soul of the original ECW, prevailed. He gave his all as he always does, even if it was during a show in tribute to a man he despised.

Matches
Tommy Dreamer def. Balls Mahoney (Extreme Rules)
Boogeyman def. Matt Striker
Chris Benoit & CM Punk def. Elijah Burke & Marcus Cor Von (Disqualification)

Remember this proud moment in WWE history: December 20, 2005, courtesy of Rob Kamphausen's Forum.

In what might blow away any past awards for sheer absurdity within wrestling; the aftermath of the sketch on Sunday night's Armageddon PPV, in which a "despondent" Tim White was depicted at his Friendly Tap bar outside of Providence, RI, downing shots and beers (dealing with the pain of his legitimate injuries suffered at a previous Hell In The Cell match) then taking a rifle and off screen, firing the gun, with an implied suicide, resulted in the following...in real-life.

According to the webmaster of the FriendlyTap.com website for Tim White's bar, this skit blew up to the extent that:

1) Local Cumberland, CT police got an estimated 1,000 phone calls about the "suicide" depicted on the PPV.

2) The door of White's Friendly Tap bar was pried off the hinges by local police and fire, causing $3,000 in damages.

3) White himself has to give a deposition regarding the incident to local police, who were upset about not having been clued in ahead of time to the sketch.

4) The e-mail address of the bar recived 4,000 e-mails of condolence and comment.

This reaction may rank up there with the classic September 1, 1990 angle in which Jerry Lawler was run over by an automobile driven by Eddie Gilbert on the live WMC Memphis TV show; causing Memphis police to storm the studio looking for Gilbert.

TNA Impact! Results: 6-14-07

1 -- DAMAJA & BASHAM (w/Christy Hemme) & STEINER BROTHERS (RICK & SCOTT) vs. VKM (KIP & B.G. JAMES) & TEAM 3D (BROTHER RAY & BROTHER DEVON)

The bell sounded and Devon started against Basham. The fans didn't waste any time chanting for tables. Ray then tagged in and ran over Basham with a shoulder block. Scott Steiner managed a tag, then he went face-to-face with Ray, but B.G. blind tagged in to square off with Scott. B.G. ducked a clothesline, then landed rock-n-roll right hands, but Scott punched him in the face and tagged out to Rick, who caught B.G. in the air and slammed him to the mat. In the middle of the match, Tenay and West plugged a contest to win a date with Christy Hemme and one week free of TNA Mobile. Back to the action, Scott gave B.G. a turnaround belly-to-belly suplex before the heels started tagging in and out to work on B.G. The Bashams lost control, and Kip took a hot tag. He cleaned house before catching Damaja with the Fameasser, but Basham caught him with the flying leg whip. The action broke down at 4:00, then Scott put B.G. in position for a top rope bulldog by Rick Steiner. It came down to Steiners vs. Dudleys in the ring. They paused before exchanging right hand blows. Their fight spilled to the outside, while Kip had a pin on Basham, but Christy used a referee distraction to spray something in Kip's eyes. Basham then rolled up Kip for the win. As usual, Lance Hoyt hit the ring too late, trying to make a save.

WINNERS: Bashams & Steiners in 5:00. Decent action to give everyone some time in the ring. They set the stage for the feuds going into the PPV, but there were too many men in too short a period of time for everything to sink in. (*1/2)

They cut to footage from the Slammiversary press conference when James Storm interrupted Frank Wychek's comments and sprayed water on him. They showed Jerry Lynn coming to Wychek's aid, setting up Lynn and Wychek teaming together at the PPV. West asked if Wychek's training will be enough to overcome Storm.

[Commercial Break]

[Q2]

Backstage, Jim Cornette told security to buzz off, while Leticia held the mic and Cornette addressed Angle, Joe, and Styles. Joe and Angle nearly came to blows until Cornette calmed them down. He said Joe and Angle hate each other, and have held the program hostage for six months, which he's sick of. Cornette then ripped Styles a new one, saying he's tired of watching Styles acting like a fool and playing Christian's sock puppet. He then booked Styles, Joe, and Angle in a six-man tag match against the three men they beat for the KOTM spot. He said if one of the opponents pins one member of Team Angle, the person who gets pinned loses his spot in KOTM. Team Angle was furious. "All I want is ratings," Cornette said. "That's my job." Yikes. Cornette told them not to work together like a well-oiled machine, but tear each other apart. "Why? Because it's good for ratings and fans want to see it." Geez.

They went to a video package on the King of the Mountain match, explaining all of the rules.

[Commercial Break]

They aired a video package on the LAX vs. Hector Guerrero feud.

Backstage, Jeremy Borash plugged TNA's text service and asked us to answer a question on where TNA's first PPV was held to possibly win $500. Chris Harris and Hector Guerrero then entered the camera shot and Harris said he's going to have Hector's back when they go to war against LAX. Hector then cut a promo in Spanish about facing Konnan at Slammiversary. It definitely was not clear what exactly the match is at the PPV.

Back live, Tomko's music hit, but he didn't emerge. Rhino's music then hit and he stormed the ring. Sting then came out like any ordinary wrestler. Joe led out Team Angle, then A.J. Styles came out second. Angle did his big entrance to round out the two-on-three match. With everyone in the ring, they cut backstage where Tomko was asleep...er...flat on his back with a giant electrical cable neatly and meticulously wrapped around his neck. Tenay wondered who took out Tomko.

[Q3]

2 -- RHINO & STING vs. SAMOA JOE & KURT ANGLE & A.J. STYLES

Joe and Rhino took center stage early on, then Joe slapped Angle hard on the chest to make a tag. Angle slowly entered the ring, then walked into a clothesline from Rhino. Angle came back with a release German suplex in center ring for a nearfall.

[Commercial Break]

Back live, Sting worked on Angle, who couldn't make a tag to his unwilling partners. Sting caught Angle with a dropkick, then Joe exploded on Sting with right hand blows after Sting knocked him off the apron. Joe and Angle exchanged words in the ring, then ran over Sting with a double elbow smash. Suddenly, Christopher Daniels hit the ring and stood on the apron looking for a tag. Sting then ran over to Daniels and tagged him in. What the? Daniels then entered the ring, smiled at how easy this was, and dropped Sting with Last Rites. Goodness, they made Sting look even more dumb, and that's quite a feat. Angle and Joe fought over who would pin Sting, then Angle got the pin on Sting for the win. Joe chased Angle from the ring, then Angle posed on the entrance ramp.

WINNERS: Angle & Joe & Styles in 8:00; Team Angle retains spots in KOTM. Unbelievable how little Sting means on this show these days. He's treated like a regular guy, and they book him like a gullible face every chance they get. Match meant nothing, really. Disappointing use of TNA's top stars. (3/4*)

[Commercial Break]

We join Eye Spy with Sonjay Dutt, Kevin Nash, and Jay Lethal having a passive discussion about the X Division Title while in the middle of a loving circle. Dutt spoke quietly and sincerely to Lethal. Nash went for the homoerotic overtone that no one knows what another man wants more than another man. Dutt started humming, while Nash went high-pitched. Pointless. Certainly doesn't seem like there's an X Title match at the PPV.

Christian Cage came to the ring motioning around his waist that he wants the TNA Title. Abyss's music then hit, and Christian freaked. This felt like a missed opportunity, though, as I don't feel they did a good job of building up the "mystery" aspect of the opponent - posing relevant questions along the way to get viewers thinking and anticipating who the opponent could be. As a result, Abyss came out and the crowd politely reacted like they would for any other wrestler, not the guy who's been off TV for months and finally has a chance to get his revenge on Christian. Abyss's return should have meant something and generated a huge pop, but they didn't plant any seeds the last few weeks to hint at Abyss's return. He was just a forgotten man with an "oh yeah, that guy" reaction from the crowd.

3 -- CHRISTIAN CAGE vs. ABYSS -- King of the Mountain qualifying match

Abyss hit the ring and jumped Christina. He splashed him in the corner, then knocked Christian to the floor. Abyss stalked Christian around ringside and threw him head-first into the entrance ramp. They brawled to the base of the stands, then the show cut to a break.

[Q4]

[Commercial Break]

Back in the Impact zone, Christian sent Abyss to the ropes and caught him with a double boot to the face. Christian then kicked Abyss in the legs and Abyss went flying into the air before crashing to the mat. Tenay told us Sting vs. Daniels has been added to the PPV and the fifth person in the KOTM match won't be announced until the PPV. He said the fifth person might not even be on the TNA roster. Back to live action, Abyss and Christian countered each other's finishers before Abyss caught him with a chokeslam for a nearfall. Behind the ref's back, Christian low blowed Abyss. Tomko made a miraculous recovery from falling asleep backstage and nailed Abyss with a big boot while Christian had the ref distracted. Christian then hit a top rope frog splash, but Abyss kicked out. Christian, upset, chased the ref out of the ring Tom & Jerry style. Christian was blown up from running, then he ran into the Black Hole Slam back in the ring. Of course, the ref was distracted by Tomko, so Abyss got his visual three count. A.J. Styles then slipped a chair into the ring and Abyss punched it into Christian's face before press slamming Styles to the floor on top of Tomko. Abyss picked up the chair and pointed it at Christian, but the ref got in the way. Abyss thought about it for a second, then nailed Christian with a chair shot, earning a DQ. The ref took a chair shot to the head for good measure, popping the crowd.

WINNER: Christian via DQ in 9:00 to earn the fourth KOTM spot. Exciting final few minutes, and in the Impact tradition of a non-finish in the final TV match before a PPV, Christian won without really winning while flat on his back. (**)

After the match, Abyss went under the ring and got the bag of thumbtacks. Security hit the ring and bumped for Abyss. Terry Taylor and Simon Diamond, wearing jeans and a t-shirt, then entered the ring looking like security guards and took blows from Abyss. Abyss then dumped broken glass in center ring instead of tacks. He set up Christian for a chokeslam, but Tomko and Styles made the save. They set up Abyss for a chokeslam onto the glass, but Christian told them to hold on while he retrieved his barbed wire baseball bat. Christian went for a bat shot, but Abyss landed a big boot and cleared Styles and Tomko to the floor. Christian bailed, then Abyss picked up the baseball bat and held it in the air to close the show. Wait, is there a PPV on Sunday? Sure doesn't seem like it when the main event isn't finalized and the post-main event angle had nothing to do with setting up a PPV match since Abyss isn't even on the card.

They closed with a video package hyping the Slammiversary PPV.

Former WWE Star Done Forever, Event Sells Out, More

- WWE remains atop of Yahoo's Buzz Index Top Overall Searches. Vince McMahon dropped from #3 to #18.

- The June 24th, Vengeance PPV in Houston, TX officially sold out a month ago, without a match being announced. The event will be held at the Toyota Center.

- It was reported previously that Paul “The Big Show” Wight was asked by WWE to make a return and he turned them down. I guess he is also telling independent promotions not to contact him at all because he has no interest in wrestling at all anymore.

Sensational Sherri has died.

Sensational Sherri

WWE is saddened to learn of the death of WWE Hall of Famer “Sensational” Sherri. She was 49.

She passed away at her mother’s home in Birmingham, Ala. Friday morning, according to her husband of 10 years, Robert Schrull.

“It’s a great loss to the wrestling world,” he told WWE.com. The couple resided in St. Petersburg, Fla.

In the early 1980s, Sherri began her career in the AWA. In 1985, she defeated Candi Devine to become the AWA Women’s Champion. Their rivalry lasted more than a year, with the championship trading hands on several occasions.

It was during this time that she began perfecting her skills as a manager, leading “Playboy” Buddy Rose and “Pretty Boy” Doug Somers to the AWA Tag Team Championship. On June 28, 1986, Martel would win the AWA Women’s Championship for a third and final time from Candi Devine.

On July 24, 1987, “Sensational” Sherri debuted in WWE, pinning her trainer and mentor the Fabulous Moolah to become Women’s Champion. Sherri defended the gold against Debbie Combs, Velvet McIntyre, and Desiree Peterson.

She quickly earned the reputation as someone who would do anything to win, even if it meant using unsavory tactics. Her rivalry with Moolah continued as they became the captains for the first-ever female Survivor Series teams in 1989. Sherri held the championship for 15 months before losing to Rockin’ Robin.

In the early ‘90s WWE phased out the Women’s Division, leaving Sherri to focus on managing the male wrestlers. Her first client was “Macho Man” Randy Savage. It was during this time that she became “Sensation Queen.”

The couple had rivals with Miss Elizabeth, Hulk Hogan, Dusty Rhodes and Sapphire. In 1991, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase enlisted her services. After that relationship dissolved, she took on the managerial duties of Shawn Michaels.

In 1994, Sherri appeared in WCW as “Sensuous” Sherri managing Ric Flair during his rivalries with Sting and Hulk Hogan. After separating from Flair, she became “Sister” Sherri guiding Harlem Heat to seven WCW Tag Team Championships.

Sherri was enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006. “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase was her presenter.

WWE Smackdown Results: 6-15-07

Backdraft
By Lennie DiFino
June 15, 2007

PHILADELPHIA – After the devastation of Monday’s Raw, the Superstars of SmackDown and the new draftees paid tribute to Mr. McMahon throughout the night. As questions swirl around the tragic events that befell the Chairman, SmackDown carried on the show, hoping to relieve some of the emotional stress that haunts them in the wake of the horrendous limo explosion.

One of the bright spots coming out of Monday night was the drafting of four new Superstars to Friday nights, and new draftee Ric Flair arrived and went straight to the top for his first fight – a non-title contest against World Heavyweight Champion Edge. Earlier in the night, Flair’s former Evolution teammate and protégé Batista was in non-title action against United States Champion MVP. As The Animal’s pursuit of the Rated-R Superstar and his gold will continue at Vengeance: Night of Champions in a Last Chance Match, their paths crossed once more on SmackDown.

In other action, the WWE Tag Team Champions Deuce & Domino defeated Paul London & Brian Kendrick. The boys from the Other Side of the Tracks used their powerful, in-your-face style to pick up the win in what could be their last appearance on SmackDown together. With the Supplemental Draft scheduled for Sunday at noon ET exclusively on WWE.com, Deuce & Domino, as well as every other SmackDown Superstar, are still in danger of moving from Friday nights.

One Superstar who thrives on danger is Matt Hardy, who took on William Regal in one-on-one action. Hardy has been one of the hottest Superstars in all of WWE lately, on a winning streak unmatched in recent memory before catching the ire of the presumed dead Chairman. Regal, however, began the night with a heartfelt address over the events involving Mr. McMahon, and he couldn’t find a way to overcome both Hardy and his emotions. Matt Hardy can certainly feel on track after the win on SmackDown.

Finally, Jimmy Wang Yang became the No. 1 contender to Cruiserweight Champion of the World Chavo Guerrero and his title. Yang was able to defeat Shannon Moore, Jamie Noble and Daivari in a Fatal Four Way match to decide who would take on Guerrero at Vengeance: Night of Champions. Yang has had major success in non-title matches against the champion, but Guerrero is a veteran who always shines brightest in the big moment. Can SmackDown’s resident redneck find the key to success once more at Vengeance: Night of Champions?

Matches
WWE Tag Team Champions Deuce & Domino def. Paul London & Brian Kendrick
Matt Hardy def. William Regal
Batista def. United States Champion MVP (Non-title)
Jimmy Wang Yang def. Jamie Noble, Shannon Moore and Daivari (Fatal Four Way)
Ric Flair def. World Heavyweight Champion Edge (Disqualification, Non-title)

I have a very bad feeling no good will come of this 'Death of Vince McMahon' angle.

I can envision down the road when there's a wrestling event going on, a shadow lurking in the heights of the arena looking down on everyone.

Nah...been there...done that :oh_no:

That will happen not even 60 seconds into the show as they will continue to replay McMahon's limo exploding to the point where we'll be seeing it in our sleep, whether we want to or not.

Didn't watch Smackdown last night but I'm watching the tape of it in a moment. Like the little warning at the start of the show:

WARNING. "Tonight's special edition of Smackdown contains content depicting Mr. McMahon's fatality, and may be considered inappropriate." PARENTAL DISCRESTION IS ADVISED.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that due to the recent death of "Sensational" Sherri Martel, World Wrestling Entertainment officials are discussing possibly ending the "Death of Mr McMahon" as quickly as possible. It is being reported some officials feel it is disrespectful and had bad timing. On the other hand, other WWE officials are pushing for the angle to move forward. We will bring you more information as it becomes available.

you know i was just thinking about that. i mean sherri is actually dead, she deserves a piece on monday night raw, ECW, and smackdown this week. and mister mcmahon needs to show back up. because this death angle needs to go. it's really in bad taste to keep it up. then again they kept over the edge going in 1999 after owen hart died.

Of course they're gonna keep going with it, respect for someone else who isn't named McMahon does not exsist to them or else the Eddie storyline wouldn't have came about and last so long.

Remember, the last time something similar happened, the WWE was doing the terrorist angle with Divari on Smackdown when the London bombings occurred, thus having to ditch the storyline and have him taken off the TV shows until it was safe for him to reappear with a different angle.

McMahon wants to cash in on terrorism so bad he can taste it! I have to admit that angle with divari and the other wrastler praying to Mecca was pretty hair raising<interesting> to state the least. I have a strong suspicion that they, the WWE, were trying to portray The Great Khali as some Iraqi 'badguy' facing off against the 'wanna be' marine ,Cena.

As embarrassing as this Death of Mr McMahon angle may be it would be even worse if they ended it prematurely. The stupidity has already been unleashed,a limo was ruined, extras were paid to lie, etc.

Anybody else believe that the WWE roster is not big enough to accomodate three shows? I believe it's time to put ECW to bed once and for all.
