It was expected though not so soon. Also it was planned to stop having him make appearances well before his contract expired so that he wouldn't appear elsewhere the following night after his last night, as Christian did when he went to TNA. IIRC RVD didn't have a standard no-compete clause once his contract was to expire, hence the decision to pull him early.

I'm kind of pleased with this mainly because all RVD would've done is to job to everyone and that wouldn't be right. I think it's time to pull the plug on WWECW once and for all.

-- An additional note on Sabu's WWE contract to add to yesterday's report. After being released on Tuesday, he has a 90-day no-compete clause that will run through the middle of August and prevent him from working for other promotions while WWE pays him out.

TNA Impact! Results: 5-17-07

1 -- MOTOR CITY MACHINE GUNS (X division champion CHRIS SABIN & ALEX SHELLEY) vs. JERRY LYNN & TIGER MASK IV

Sabin came to the ring with Shelley sporting Backlund's back, which contains crazy things or stuff like that, according to West. Sabin started things off by slamming Lynn into the corner turnbuckles. Lynn came back with a huracanrana and snapmare into an arm bar. Tiger Mask took a tag and Sabin went running to Shelley's crotch for comfort. Shelley then knocked Lynn to the outside at 3:00 and worked on Tiger's face. Out of nowhere, Sabin came running in with an Ace crusher, but Tiger recovered and went up top, but he missed with a splash. Sabin and Shelley then combined on a dual enziguri before Shelley hit a swinging STO (Shellsock) for the win.

After the match, MCMG jumped Lynn from behind, but he moved out of the way of a combo move and knocked Sabin into Shelley. He went for the cradle piledriver on Shelley, but Sabin kicked him in the face. Bob Backlund then made the save and tried to clear the MCMGs, but they got the best of him. Jay Lethal then hit the ring and double headbutted Sabin and Shelley. They bailed to the outside as Lethal did his Machoisms.

WINNERS: Shelley & Sabin in 4:00. Fast-paced, yet forgettable match. Sabin & Shelley are a great team that TNA could cultivate into a legitimate TNA tag title team down the road. As usual, the post-match activity took precedence over the wrestling. (*)

They cut a James Mitchell promo. Very dark setting. Mitchell said the wrestling business is an uncaring shark tank. Winners follow the laws of the jungle, while losers have characteristics of compassion, love, and guilt. He said Abyss didn't follow his advice and now he's dead and buried. Mitchell said he's going to resurrect a cold, reptilian-brained killing machine. He said it's time to revisit his original plan to carpet bomb TNA like never seen before.

[Commercial Break]

Jeremy Borash caught up with Kevin Nash backstage. Nash said he came to give a receipt, not to talk. Sonjay Dutt interrupted and said what he did was wrong and he's sorry. Dutt said the emotions got the best of him and he's sorry. He said Nash has been like a father to him, and he shouldn't have done what he did. Dutt extended a hand and they did a super-secret handshake. Nash then pulled Dutt in and said he wouldn't be so forgiving next time.

2 -- CHRISTOPHER DANIELS vs. RAVEN (w/Serotonin) -- First blood match

Tenay said we shouldn't be surprised that someone as demented as Raven would accept the first blood challenge. Look at the gut on Raven. Geez. The bell sounded and they exchanged kendo stick blows, then Raven missed with a screwedriver blow to the face. Raven missed with several chair shot attempts before Daniels hit an STO. If all weapons are legal, why not bring a gun to the ring and shoot the opponent in the face to draw blood? They showed a close-up of the screwdriver being lodged in the top turnbuckle. Raven then ducked a clothesline and slammed Daniels into the back of the chair. Raven ripped apart a stick and tried to drive the jagged edges into Daniels's face, but Daniels low blowed him. Daniels then picked up Raven and ripped into Raven's forehead with the edge of the stick, drawing blood.

After the match, Daniels took off his bandage from the PPV and headbutted Raven to draw more blood from Raven and open up his own forehead again. Daniels left the ring when Serotonin stepped in. Kaz told Raven to drop to his knees for the stick beating after losing. Raven went down, and Kaz wound up, but Havoc and Martyr stepped in the way. Raven, sensing this was going to happen, stepped up and got in Kaz's face. He pointed a finger at him, then Kaz realized what was going on, so he backed away and mocked Raven's extended arms pose.

WINNER: Daniels in 3:00. A lot more interesting storyline development from Daniels with the First Blood Invitational after he was pounded into the ground three weeks ago. At least he has some direction now. As usual, post-match overshadowed the match. (1/2*)

Backstage, Borash found Sting, who said he's been around the block and he doesn't mind having to qualify for a title match. Christopher Daniels interrupted and thanked Sting for giving him direction. Sting, flustered and frustrated, said he didn't give him any guidance, since every time he says go left, Daniels goes right. Daniels stopped and pointed a finger at Sting before accusing him of being lost.

[Commercial Break. Need male enhancement for upgraded performance? Try Maxoderm for sustained performance! Hey, a leading physician recommends it.]

They aired a video package on Robert Roode pinning Jeff Jarrett at the PPV. We saw the post-match angle where Eric Young made the save for Roode.

Back live, Eric Young led the planted TNA office workers and some tourist fans around ringside. Young then entered the ring and said his good friend, Jeff Jarrett, taught him that he needs to believe in what he feels is right. Young, doing his best Matt Foley impersonation, told the fans to believe in themselves. Young said he's free at least. Robert Roode then interrupted with Ms. Brooks, who was sporting a new bustier and neck brace this week. Roode said Young physically placed his hands on him, so he could very well take away the one thing Young loves in his life - pro wrestling - or tell him he's fired. Roode got in Young's face and said the rules have changed because he's still under contract to Roode, Inc., which means he still owns him. Roode said Cornette could threaten to sue him, but that ship has sailed. He said he's going to give Young some advice to get a good attorney because he's going to sue Young for everything he owns. Young then took the contract and wiped his ass with the paperwork. Roode thought about Young's action for a second before smashing him with a right hand blow. Young then fired back with a Thesz Press. Brooks pulled Young off Roode, then Roode jumped Young from behind. Suddenly, Stomper was on the apron pointing at Roode. Stomper turned and shook his rear end in Roode's face. Roode tried to jump him, but Stomper showed his agility and hopped off the apron. A "fan" handed Young a chair, but Roode ducked out of the ring when Young approached him with the chair. Completely bizarre segment that fits the Jarrett vision of hee-haw wrestling on national TV.

Kurt Angle came to the ring for the first KOTM qualifying match.

[Commercial Break]

3 -- KURT ANGLE vs. RHINO -- King of the Mountain qualifying match

They slowly paced around the ring to start things off. Tenay plugged the on-sale date for Slammiversary tickets this Saturday. Good crowd heat early on, with Rhino showing he would't back down from Angle's ground-based attacks. Angle landed European uppercuts, then ducked a clothesline, but walked into the TKO for a nearfall. Angle suddenly countered into an anklelock attempt, but Rhino slipped out and hit a powerslam. He measured Angle for the Gore, but Angle shoved Rhino aside and hit a release German suplex. That's a hot three minutes.

[Commercial Break]

Angle had Rhino on the mat with a side headlock out of the break. Rhino fired back with right hands before clotheslining Angle to the mat. Suddenly, Rhino hit a spinebuster for a nearfall. He took Angle up top and superplexed him for a nearfall. Rhino was gassed, though, so Angle came back and went for an Olympic Slam, but Rhino countered with a belly-to-belly suplex. He went for the Gore, but Angle blocked and hit the Olympic Slam for the win.

WINNER: Angle in 8:00 to advance to KOTM. Solid TV match for the 10-minutes-and-under category. Good energy in the ring, non-stop action to fit the slogan on the marquee, and good crowd energy. Rhino benefited from getting in considerable offense despite the loss. (**1/4)

Backstage, Leticia found Jim Cornette, who announced Samoa Joe vs. Sting for next week's KOTM qualifying match. There was a knock on the door, then Rick Steiner barged in with Scott Steiner. Scott said they want Team 3D in the ring next week. Cornette says he smells money, and agreed to it. Rick then placed the office door on the ground and told Cornette he's sorry. Good advertisement for next week.

WWE Smackdown Results: 5-18-07

Passing Judgment
By Lennie DiFino
May 18, 2007
BALTIMORE – Two days away from Judgment Day, SmackDown was the final stop before the event Sunday on pay-per-view.

The new World Heavyweight Champion Edge delivered his inaugural address to the world, only to have the former champion Batista get the last word. When these two collide Sunday at Judgment Day for the richest prize in the game, only one can walk out with the gold around his waist. Read the whole story…

Also up for grabs this Sunday is the United States Championship currently held by Chris Benoit. The Rabid Wolverine will defend his title in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match against MVP. On SmackDown, Porter received a huge boost to his title hopes when he and Finlay attacked Benoit’s injured knee. Read the whole story…

SmackDown Diva Ashley made her first appearance on SmackDown in weeks when she introduced rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, who performed the official theme song of Judgment Day – “I Don’t Wanna Stop” – live for our fans. (WATCH) Ozzy will also be part of the next installment of Superstar to Superstar, exclusively on WWE.com. Osbourne narrowly escaped an encounter with the wannabe pop princess Jillian, who tried to sing her way into Ozzy’s good graces, but to no avail.

After returning to SmackDown last week and destroying Undertaker, Mark Henry is living up to his words of creating a path of destruction. Funaki was the unfortunate soul who drew the task of facing the World’s Strongest Man, as the self-proclaimed silverback once again demolished a Superstar to prove he may be the king of the SmackDown jungle.

One SmackDown Superstar who is also no stranger to destruction is Kane, who continued his rivalry with William Regal when they went one-on-one. The Big Red Monster was able to get the victory with a little help from Boogeyman and Little Boogeyman, who were once again in the corner of Kane.

From the corner to the Other Side of the Tracks, the WWE Tag Team Champions Deuce & Domino teamed with the Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero to take on Paul London, Brian Kendrick & Jimmy Wang Yang in a Six-Man Tag Team Match. The team of London, Kendrick & Yang were victorious when SmackDown’s resident redneck pinned the Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero.

Finally, General Manager Theodore Long welcomed Vickie Guerrero into his office for an interview to be his assistant after a little push from his girlfriend Kristal. Vickie claims she has changed her ways and is living positive, but will that put her in the good graces of SmackDown’s GM?

Matches
MVP def. Matt Hardy
Paul London, Brian Kendrick & Jimmy Wang Yang def. WWE Tag Team Champions Deuce & Domino & Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero
Mark Henry def. Funaki
United States Champion Chris Benoit def. Finlay (DQ)
Kane def. William Regal

maybe this is the reason...

Stephanie McMahon was promoted to the role where she decides who gets hired and who gets fired last week. Johnny Ace answers to her now, or she can overrule him on a decision if she wants. She's really making use of her title now, as she fired four people within mere days after there weren't any cuts since before WrestleMania.

Stephanie's first victims ended up being Rob Conway and 2 Cold Scorpio, who were released on 5/11. Scorpio had spent months and months sitting at home doing nothing, so this was no surprise. Conway was a surprise because he's a good worker and always had a good attitude. Stephanie felt Conway was a "jobber for life" and would never draw any money, and wanted to make room for more developmental talents to be called up.

Johnny Ace had to be the "bad cop" (which is his new role, as if he didn't have enough heat already), and made things worse for himself by lying, saying creative couldn't come up with anything for Conway to do. The problem was that creative had come up with something for him, a reunited La Resistance on ECW. Conway had just recently received his new gear when Ace told him there were no ideas. Many people in the company were very unhappy with the call since they felt he could have made a great teacher in Louisville.

Stephanie's taking her new role very seriously and she really wants to make her mark. Expect to see some more cuts within the next few weeks. Had Stephanie not been promoted, the individuals recently released would probably still be around, or at least a little while longer.

Other DVD release dates include WCCW on the 18th September and Steve Austin on the 20th November. Michael Hayes, Jimmy Garvin and Buddy Roberts all went to a bar after shooting footage for the WCCW DVD in Stamford and, according to the Wrestling Observer, it was a wild scene. Somebody pissed in Roberts' drink and, without knowing, he drank it. It used to be a Freebird tradition to piss on the people they liked. Before things got too out of hand they released it was not 1983 anymore and went home.

Can it get any worse?

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Shawn Micheals is said to have blown out his knees. This injury has been described as "serious". Micheals missed a Raw event last night, but is still scheduled to "work through the pain" tomorrow night at Judgment Day. Of course, if plans change we will keep you posted.

Gregory Helms has two cracked vertebrae in his neck and will be going under neck fusion surgery, done by Dr. Lloyd Youngblood (the same Dr. whoworked on angle and a few others in the past) on May 21. It's expected that he'll be out for about a year.

Real-time results courtesy of PWTorch.com

1 -- RIC FLAIR vs. CARLITO

Carlito walked into the ring and threw his apple in Flair's face. Flair answered with a round of chops before Carlito cut him off and went to work on Flair's left arm/shoulder. Slow, methodical match with Carlito isolating that shoulder for five minutes. The crowd came to life when it appeared that Flair was making his comeback with chops, but Carlito cut him off with a left-arm clothesline and went back to work on the left arm. Carlito continued to cut off Flair's comebacks before Flair snapped off five or six chops at 11:00. Carlito then caught Flair out of the corner with a back body drop for a nearfall. He went back to work on Flair's arm and the camera got in close to hear the referee giving Carlito instructions. Flair built up a slow comeback before taking out the back of Carlito's knee with a chop block. Carlito landed a thumb to the eye, then went for the back cracker, but Flair grabbed the ropes to block the hold. He then went to work on the legs and slapped on the figure four leglock. The fans roared as Carlito tried to fight the hold, but he eventually tapped out.

WINNER: Flair via submission in 16:00. A very basic, standard pro wrestling match. I had no problem with that for an opener featuring Ric Flair, although it was borderline boring with Carlito on offensive at times. Carlito tried to put in an extra effort, as if he were trying to keep his job. (**)

WWE Judgment Day PPV Results: 5-20-07

2 -- ECW champion VINCE MCMAHON & SHANE MCMAHON & UMAGA vs. BOBBY LASHLEY -- ECW Title match

The bell sounded and Lashley fought off the heels after ripping off Vince's doo-rag to expose his half-bald head. Huge pop. Umaga then went for a splash on Lashley, but Lashley moved and Umaga crunched Shane. Huge pop. Lashley then dropped Shane with a powerslam and scored the win. Huge pop. Lashley was announced as the ECW champion and he celebrated in the ring.

After the match, Lashley and Vince had a staredown, then Umaga jumped Lashley from behind and dropped him with the Samoan spike. Vince then grabbed the ECW Title and brought it back into the ring. He said he's still ECW champion because Lashley had to pin him to win the belt. Vince announced himself as still ECW champion.

WINNER: Lashley in 1:00 to win the match, but not the ECW Title. Quick squash that got over Lashley as a monster, and the crowd was more responsive than usual to Lashley. Finish sets up the Vince vs. Lashley match at One Night Stand, but if you ordered the PPV strictly based off the ECW TV shows leading to tonight, then you're walking away very disappointed. (n/a)

Backstage, Dr. Rios checked on Michaels with a flashlight and told him he can't go out to the ring tonight. Michaels appeared to be in an altered state.

C.M. Punk came to the ring with tape around the ribs. Great. 10-15 minutes of Burke working on the ribs. Tazz pointed out how big of a target Punk's ribs are for Burke tonight.

3 -- C.M. PUNK vs. ELIJAH BURKE

Burke didn't waste any time focusing on the ribs with kicks, punches, and forearm blows. Tazz questioned the thinking behind presenting a huge target by taping up the ribs. Punk came back with a high vertical suplex and scored a nearfall. He went for a high knee strike in the corner, but Burke awkwardly dumped him over the top rope into the ring steps. "That was ugly," Tazz muttered. Back in the ring, Punk went for a sunset flip for a close nearfall. They battled up top and Punk nailed a top rope superplex, but it took energy out of both men. The ref applied a ten count and both men reached their feet at nine. After a standing exchange, Punk landed an enziguri kick, then made a cover foe a nearfall. Punk went for the bulldog out of the corner, but Burke blocked. Punk then went for the GTS, but Burke escaped. Burke then hit the Elijah Experience, but Punk kicked out. Burke recovered and hung up Punk in the corner. He nailed the Elijah Express double knee smash to the back, then made a cover, but Punk was in the ropes. At 16:00, Punk escaped the Elijah Experience and hit the Go To Sleep for the win.

WINNER: Punk in 17:00. Physical match, but the crowd was quiet throughout. Nothing flashy, but it gives them somewhere to go on TV leading to One Night Stand. (**)

Backstage, Krystal interviewed Edge, who showed off his World Hvt. Title. Edge interrupted Krystal and said he's had the greatest two weeks ever. He said the Rated R era has begun on Smackdown.

Randy Orton came to the ring for his advertised match against Shawn Michaels. He demanded that Josh Roberts announce him as the winner due to Michaels's condition. Before Roberts could announce Orton as the winner by forfeit, Shawn Michaels's music hit. Michaels didn't appear, though. After a few moments, Michaels walked out looking to be in a far, far away place. The referee told him that he didn't have to do this tonight. Michaels refused to leave, so the ref called for the bell.

4 -- RANDY ORTON vs. SHAWN MICHAELS

Orton kicked Michaels in the head, then hit a Spike DDT for a quick nearfall when it appeared that Michaels was KO'ed. Orton then dragged Michaels to his feet and went for the RKO, but Michaels slumped to the mat. Orton then picked up Michaels and placed him on the top turnbuckle. Michaels fought off Orton with a shove, then he tried to balance himself before hitting a staggered top rope elbow smash. Ross said maybe the ref needs to end this match because of Michaels's condition. Michaels then went to the corner and tried to warm up the band, but he slumped to the mat. The ref checked on him, then Michaels pulled himself up. The ref looked in Michaels's eyes and decided to call for the bell.

After the match, Michaels tried to recover to his feet, but he kept collapsing. Ross called it a sad moment in the history of WWE. Orton stood and watched as Michaels came to his feet with the ref's help, then he quietly dropped him with the RKO like a silent assassin. He left, then Michaels's wife slid into the ring and checked on Michaels. She began crying as medics and agents filled the ring. Michaels was put on a backboard and taken off on a stretcher. The announcers laid out as the cameras followed the stretcher from ringside to backstage.

WINNER: Orton via ref's decision in 4:00. An uncomfortable situation because the reality of head injuries and concussions in pro wrestling and pro sports is such an important issue to be taken seriously. That said, they needed to write him off TV, and the easiest decision was to play off the recent concussion angle on TV. (n/a)

5 -- MATT & JEFF HARDY vs. CADE & MURDOCH -- World Tag Title match

Matt and Cade started things off with chain wrestling. Cade played up the sportsmanship angle, then asked for a clean break when he ran to the ropes with Matt in control of an arm bar. They reset with Jeff vs. Murdoch, then Jeff ripped off a series of arm drags before tagging out to Matt. Jeff then ran off Matt's back with a flying leg smash in the corner. Jeff tagged back in and nearly overshot the Whisper in the Wind, but caught Murdoch on the way down. The Hardys then double clotheslined their opponents over the top rope. Cade and Murdoch regrouped on the outside and talked strategy while the ref applied a ten count. Murdoch rolled back in at seven, then clapped it up for the Hardys, showing good sportsmanship. Jeff then knocked Murdoch to the floor and set up for a somersault dive, but Murdoch moved and Jeff ate the floor. Major ouch. Matt checked on Jeff, who showed pain. Apparently, some fans were escorted out of the building, as the ringside fans did the "na na na, goodbye" chant.

Back in the ring, Murdoch worked on Jeff at 10:00. He blocked a jawbreaker with a big boot to the face, then made a cover for a nearfall. Murdoch took a while setting up the Canadian Destroyer on Jeff, then executed it without breaking Jeff's neck in half. Cade took a tag, then Jeff avoided an elbow drop and made the hot tag to Matt. The action broke down at 14:00 and Matt dumped Murdoch to the floor. Cade then hit a combination Rock Bottom and spinebuster for a nearfall. Matt came back with a side effect, then Jeff went up top and hit the Swanton Bomb on Cade for the pin and the win. After the match, the Hardys celebrated the victory while Cade and Murdoch recovered in the ring. Matt extended a hand to Cade, then Jeff extended a hand to Murdoch. Everyone had a good shake, then Cade caught his breath in the ring. JBL said it's time to go buy everyone a beer after a hard-fought match.

WINNERS: Hardys in 16:00 to retain the World Tag Titles. Solid tag match. The sportsmanship angle gave the match a new flavor, but it wasn't a major addition. Hardys continue to just do what they're expected to do - have good matches and generate crowd reactions. (**1/4)

Yeah I heard a story that Shawn blew out his knees or something and was gonna gut through the pain. He'll be off TV for a while. Who knows when Taker's coming back, either. Sad to see two of the all-time greats go on the shelf like this. It wasn't too long ago that they were the last 2 men left in the 2007 Royal Rumble. (I ordered that PPV, the first one since, well, 2006's RR)

6 -- EDGE vs. BATISTA -- World Hvt. Title match

Referee Mickie Henson gave the wrestlers their instructions as Batista was getting ancy to start the match. They started the match with Edge trying to avoid a lock-up. Batista drove Edge to the corner, then Edge showed a look of fear. Batista then dumped Edge over the top rope to the floor and followed out. Edge reversed a whip to the ring steps, but Batista recovered and sent Edge into the ring. Back in the ring, Edge drop kicked Batista's bad leg and followed with a chop block. He then side stepped Batista, who went crashing into the ringpost shoulder-first. Edge went for a double axehandle smash off the top rope, but Batista blocked with a clothesline to the face. Batista followed with a swinging slam to avoid a spear, and scored a nearfall. Edge came back with a spear attempt at 10:00, but Batista answered with a spear for a close nearfall. At 10:00, they picked up the pace after a slow first ten minutes. Batista hit a spinebuster, then called for the end, but Edge escaped a Batistabomb. Batista hit another spear, but he grabbed his leg in pain and Edge rolled him up with a hook of the tights for the win.

WINNER: Edge in 12:00 to retain the World Hvt. Title. Slow developing match. Just when they picked up the pace, they went to the finish. The story of this feud is going to be Edge escaping by the skin of his teeth while Batista dominates for the most part. Doesn't exactly create a great deal of confidence in the champion from a viewer perspective, but it's how they're going to try to get some more PPV matches out of the feud. (*3/4)

7 -- CHRIS BENOIT vs. MVP -- U.S. Title match -- 2 out of 3 falls

WWE's sign guy is back and he's not a fan of MVP. They had a collar and elbow tie-up, then rolled to the floor with the lock-up maintained. Back in the ring, they exchanged slaps to the face. Benoit went for the crossface in the opening minute, but MVP reached the bottom rope. MVP went to work on the left leg that Finlay took out on Smackdown with a shillelagh blow. Benoit came back with a trio of German suplexes, then he applied the Crossface at 5:00, but MVP reached the bottom rope again. MVP went back to the leg, but missed with a Yakuza kick in the corner. Benoit went for a Sharpshooter, but MVP escaped. Benoit answered with an enziguri kick, then he caught MVP in the electric chair. MVP escaped, though, and hit the Playmaker in one fluid motion for the first fall.

MVP 1, BENOIT 0 in 8:00.

After a 60 second rest period, Benoit went to work on MVP with chops. He came up lame, though, and MVP went to work on the leg again. MVP hung Benoit upside down in the corner, then he gave Benoit a running kick to the knee. Benoit went for the Crossface after ducking a clothesline, but MVP countered with a half-crab with Benoit's leg over MVP's neck. Benoit fought off the pain, then MVP released the hold. MVP went for the Playmaker, but Benoit blocked and crawled across MVP's body to apply the Crossface. MVP escaped, though, and rolled into a small package for a nearfall. He then struggled to roll up Benoit again for the pin and the win. Anti-climatic finish.

WINNER: MVP 2-0 in 14:00 to capture the U.S. Title. Disappointing match. The crowd was dead silent. The second fall was logical, but there was no big feeling of MVP accomplishing something special. The wrestling, in and of itself, was fine, but the crowd wasn't reacting to anything. (**)

WWE Judgment Day PPV Results: 5-20-07

8 -- JOHN CENA vs. GREAT KHALI -- WWE Title match

Justin Roberts handled the formal ring intros. As part of the theme of the night, Khali's been tanning. He's also been hitting the weights. The bell sounded and Cena went face to nipple with Khali. Cena tried to land right hand blows, but Khali was unshaken and he ran over Cena with a stiff clothesline. On the outside, Khali chucked Cena into the ring steps. Khali worked on Cena for a few minutes before Cena hit a low-level Blockbuster. He made a cover, but Khali bench press slammed Cena away. Khali then kicked Cena out of the ring to the floor. Back in the ring, Khali applied a nerve hold, then Cena powered out and landed a shoulder tackle to knock Khali in the ropes. Khali was tied up, then Cena landed right hand after right hand. Khali then untied himself and landed a big boot to the face. He went for the big chop, but Cena blocked it. Khali then knocked Cena to the floor at 7:00. On the outside, Cena drop kicked the ring steps into Khali's left knee. Khali rolled into the ring, then Cena hit a top rope guillotine leg drop. He slapped on the STFU as the crowd went wild. Khali fought the hold for a good 30 seconds before the ref called for the bell and Khali tapped out. Khali rolled out of the ring favoring his knee, then Cena caught his breath, retrieved the WWE Title, and held it high in the air.

WINNER: Cena via submission in 8:00 to retain the WWE Title. A good main event based solely on the dramatics. They kept it short and sweet; got in and got out with Cena getting the giant-conquering victory ala Hulk Hogan as a babyface champion. Cena fans get a satisfying conclusion to a so-so PPV. Final thought: Cena is unbelievably valuable to this company. (**1/4)

WWE RAW Results: 5-21-07

Gauntlets galore
By Louie Dee
May 21, 2007
MOLINE, Ill. - Gauntlets were run, thrown and explained as Raw invaded the Quad Cities just 24 hours after Judgment Day.

After being screwed out of the ECW World Title at Judgment Day, Bobby Lashley had the opportunity to earn his rematch on Raw. To get the chance to face Mr. McMahon in a Street Fight at One Night Stand, all Lashley had to do was run the gauntlet and defeat four men in one night. Despite the odds, Lashley did just that, defeating Chris Masters, Viscera, Umaga and then Shane McMahon to earn another crack at the WWE Chairman on June 3.

The Great Khali also felt he was screwed at Judgment Day, explaining through his interpreter that his foot was under the ropes when he tapped out to John Cena’s STFU. The Champ, who never backs down from a fight, accepted Khali’s challenge for another WWE Title Match at One Night Stand…but for the fourth time in four weeks on Raw, Cena found himself beat down by the massive challenger.

Randy Orton, who may have ended Shawn Michaels’ career at Judgment Day, came to the Raw ring to explain exactly why he did so: “An injury is a bullseye, and I did what any professional would do…I exploited it,” said the cocky Legend Killer.

Raw also saw a Judgment Day rematch, as Carlito got another crack at Ric Flair. While the teacher took the student to school at Judgment Day, the result was much different one night later. After the match ended in a double count-out when both men spilled to the floor, the Southpaw from San Juan viciously attacked his former mentor. Showing a total lack of respect, Carlito dropped Flair with a pair of brutal Backstabbers on the arena floor, sadistically targeting the back that has been Flair’s Achilles’ heel since being broken in a plane crash early in his career, before further disrespecting Flair by spitting apple in his face. Later this week, Carlito will hopefully explain his disrespectful and downright diabolical actions in an exclusive WWE.com interview.

Speaking of different results, The Hardys received some help from an unexpected source. With The World’s Greatest Tag Team sitting in on commentary, Matt & Jeff defeated Johnny Nitro & Kenny Dykstra, but when Nitro, Dykstra, Benjamin & Haas attacked the World Tag Team Champions, Cade & Murdoch came out to help the team they had just challenged for the gold one night earlier. Once the scavengers were sent packing, Cade & Murdoch applauded The Hardys and raised their hands in victory, once again continuing to prove they have turned over a new leaf. Cade & Murdoch will shed some more light on their new attitude later this week in an exclusive WWE.com interview.

The Divas were also in high demand on Raw this week. Candice Michelle scored an impressive win, pinning Women’s Champion Melina in a non-title match. Candice motioned that she wants the gold after defeating Victoria weeks ago, and that goal may be within closer reach after this win. Also, Ashley and company heated things up as she introduced the world premiere of Timbaland’s new video “Throw it on Me,” which features a half-dozen delicious Divas including Raw’s own Torrie Wilson.

Matches
Ric Flair vs. Carlito (double count-out)
Candice Michelle def. Women's Champion Melina (non-title match)
Bobby Lashley def. Chris Masters (Gauntlet Match, first leg)
World Tag Team Champions The Hardys def. Johnny Nitro & Kenny Dykstra
Bobby Lashley def. Viscera (Gauntlet Match, second leg)
Bobby Lashley def. Umaga (DQ; Gauntlet Match, third leg)
Bobby Lashley def. Shane McMahon (Gauntlet Match, fourth and final leg)

ECW on Sci-Fi Results: 5-22-07

Experiencing painful revenge
By Bryan Robinson
May 22, 2007

DES MOINES, Iowa – With One Night Stand less than two weeks away, the Land of the Extreme was awaiting the eagerly anticipated one-on-one Street Fight between Mr. McMahon and Bobby Lashley for the ECW World Title. Lashley won the right to challenge the Chairman by running the gauntlet and defeating four competitors – Chris Masters, Viscera, Umaga and Shane McMahon – on Raw.

While all of ECW was wondering whether Lashley will finally get his ultimate revenge on Mr. McMahon at One Night Stand, New Breed leader Elijah Burke focused on avenging his loss to CM Punk at Judgment Day. The so-called "Paragon of Virtue" had promised his New Breed that he would lead by example and teach Punk a lesson for infiltrating and trying to break apart the group from within.

But Burke fell short in a hard-fought battle at Judgment Day. Tonight, with the help of fellow New Breeder Marcus Cor Von, Burke got a measure of revenge against Punk in a tag team war. They didn't get the victory, but they left a painful mark on the Straightedge Superstar & Rob Van Dam.

RVD had vengeance on his mind after Snitsky whacked him on the head with a steel chair last week on ECW on Sci Fi. This week, the yellow-toothed deranged monster made Tommy Dreamer his latest victim in the trail of bodies he has left since entering ECW. However, when Snitsky tried to demolish Dreamer the same way he did to RVD, the one-of-a-kind Superstar saved his fellow ECW Original, and sent the bully slinking back to the locker room.

Snitsky has an impressive win-loss record in ECW, but one Superstar who has had problems getting victories lately is Matt Striker. After getting pinned in New Breed losses to the Major Brothers and Lashley, Striker had lost the confidence of Burke and the rest of the group. Tonight, Burke told Striker he would feel his wrath if he lost his singles match with Brett Major.

This motivated Striker as the Extreme Educator defeated the Major Brother. "See, I belong here," a relieved Striker said to himself and the crowd as he walked back to the locker room.

One former New Breed member who is seeking new blood after leaving the group is Kevin Thorn. ECW's fanged freak continued the new chapter in his career by bulldozing another hapless foe on ECW on Sci Fi.

Matches
Snitsky def. Tommy Dreamer
Kevin Thorn def. some poor schmuck
Brett Major def. Matt Striker
CM Punk & Rob Van Dam def. Elijah Burke & Marcus Cor Von (disqualification)

Shawn Michaels was scheduled to have knee surgery this afternoon. He won't be able to put weight on his knee for a month or two after the surgery, and then he'll be able to begin rehabbing full-fledged from there, so a return date of late summer appears most likely.

He's been wrestling in pain for a while, and nine days ago on Raw he landed awkwardly at ringside during the commercial break. He was sore all week and attempted to wrestle over the weekend, and at that point knew he had to have surgery immediately to fix the damage to his cartilage. The good news for him is that the surgery he has should lead him returning stronger and in less pain than he's been in for more than a year.

Jeff Jarrett's wife passes away

Jill Jarret, wife of TNA Superstar Jeff Jarett, passed away last night. She had been battling with cancer for the last few years, and her health declined these past two months. For the past few weeks, Jeff has been by her side nearly 24/7.

When Jeff needed to do a TV spot, he would stay with Jill for as long as he could, then fly from Nashville to Orlando, do the taping early then fly back to Nashville to be by her side.

From Everyone at the PWHeadlines.com staff, we send our deepest regrets to Jeff Jarrett and his children.
