WWE RAW Results: 3-19-07

Reversals and razors
By Noah Starr
March 19, 2007

With less than two weeks left before the biggest night in sports-entertainment, WWE fans witnessed an exciting WrestleMania Reversal Match, Mr. McMahon making a huge announcement and Eugene getting an unwanted haircut, all live from Indianapolis.

Although both World Tag Team Champions had scheduled WrestleMania Reversal Matches (where they would face one of their partner’s past WrestleMania foes), only WWE Champion John Cena’s opponent was ready to step in the ring. Shawn Michaels arrived prepared to face SmackDown color commentator JBL, who two years ago faced John Cena at WrestleMania 21. But JBL backed out of the competition, claiming: “If I come out of retirement it will be my choosing, my rules and in my town, New York City.” The Armani-clad Layfield continued, “Deep down you can’t beat John Cena… you make me sick!” HBK responded, delivering some devastating Sweet Chin Music that laid JBL out cold.

WWE Champion John Cena squared off against HBK’s WrestleMania XX opponent, United States Champion Chris Benoit. In an incredible match that stretched Cena’s sheer power and Benoit’s extraordinary technical skills to the limits, the WWE Champion got the upper hand and forced the Rabid Wolverine to tap out to the STFU. Moments after Cena’s victory, guest commentator HBK entered the ring and tuned up the band to prep a kick that seemed to send his partner a clear message: I can take you down anytime I want. Never one to be outdone, The Champ hoisted Michaels up on his shoulders but released him before delivering his trademark FU. These two competitors seem to have each other’s number, and their match at WrestleMania is sure to be nothing short of legendary.

Mr. McMahon’s night got off to a rough start when Eugene bumped into him, dousing The Chairman with a cold drink. In retaliation, The Chairman scheduled a match pitting Eugene against the Samoan Bulldozer, Umaga. After a thunderous Samoan Spike helped Umaga pick up the three-count, Mr. McMahon had Eugene strapped to a barber’s chair where he proceeded to shave the poor guy’s head while screaming, “This is going to happen to you Donald Trump!”

Mr. McMahon seemed to be on a roll, and in a shocking announcement, The Chairman set up a match up for next week on Raw: ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley will face none other than Mr. McMahon himself!

Mr. McMahon was angered when Lashley became the first man to officially break Chris Masters’ powerful Master Lock. After defeating every challenger for over two years, Masters seemed to be in a state of shock after Lashley muscled his way out of the Master Lock. Mr. McMahon rewarded Trump’s WrestleMania representative with a trip out of the arena courtesy of the WWE security staff.

The tensions between former World Tag Team Champions Edge & Randy Orton rose to new heights this week. After Edge hung Orton out to dry last week in a match against Bobby Lashley on ECW, Orton arranged for Edge to defend his spot in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania in a 10-man Battle Royal.

At the beginning of the match, Edge seemed to injure his knee and had to be removed from the contest. In an ironic turn of events, the final two Superstars in the ring ended up being Carlito and Ric Flair. Although Flair has served as almost a mentor to the Southpaw from San Juan, the “Dirtiest Player” in the Game had no problem eliminating the younger man. While Flair celebrated, Edge stepped back into the ring to eliminate him and reclaim his spot in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Edge celebrated with a victory dance, leading many to speculate that his “injury” was just a trick to help him win the match. Was Edge simply feigning injury?

Also on Raw, Jeff Hardy defeated fellow Money in the Bank Ladder Match competitor Randy Orton by disqualification. Edge slid a ladder into the ring, and Orton slammed it into Hardy’s midsection drawing the disqualification. Edge backed away leaving Orton at the mercy of a vicious leg drop from Hardy off of the top of the ladder.

Plus, Women’s Champion Melina defeated Candice Michelle in a Bra and Panties Match, but was quickly disrobed by her WrestleMania opponent, Ashley. After a surprise attack by Melina left Ashley sprawled out in the ring, The Great Khali entered and would have Chokeslammed the Diva if Jerry “The King” Lawler hadn’t come to her aid. Unfortunately for Lawler, he received the brunt of Khali’s attack and had to receive medical attention. Khali’s rage of late has been directed at Kane who he will meet at WrestleMania 23.

Matches
ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley def. Chris Masters (Master Lock Challenge)
Edge wins a Battle Royal for a Money in the Bank WrestleMania spot
Intercontinental Champion Umaga def. Eugene (Non-Title)
Women's Champion Melina def. Candice Michelle (Bra and Panties Match)
Jeff Hardy def. Randy Orton (DQ)
WWE Champion John Cena def. Chris Benoit (Non-Title)

Report: VKM Members Ask For TNA Release

Kip James and B.G. James both asked to be released from their TNA contracts several weeks back so they could return to WWE.

Management, however, refused to let them out of their contract.

WrestleZone.com has more on this story at their site.

I just watched the tape of last night's RAW and I was thinking exactly the same thing. The whole thing was to try and boost the Michaels/Cena match at WM23.

As far as WM23, I'm looking forward to the MitB match and the Batista/Undertaker match the most ;)

i loved how shawn michaels was supposed to be a commentator during that match and all he did was plug himself beating up john cena. and then everytime he'd talk jim ross would almost always cut him off and get back to talking about the match. fucking shawn michaels, what a loser. and for me it's all about the battle of the billionaires. i hate umaga, and love stone cold.

Masterpiece theater, Lashley-style
By Bryan Robinson
March 21, 2007

An enraged Chris Masters vowed to break Bobby Lashley after the ECW World Champion shocked The Masterpiece this past Monday on Raw and became the first man to ever break the Master Lock, a feat no one had been able to accomplish for more than two years. But not even a motivated Masterpiece could stop the man who will represent Donald Trump against Mr. McMahon’s Umaga in the Battle of the Billionaires Hair vs. Hair Match at WrestleMania 23.

Masters is one of the few WWE Superstars whose power rivals Lashley’s. Their contest was a back-and-forth battle of wills and strength. But in the end, Lashley humbled the arrogant Masters by making him feel what it’s like to be in the Master Lock. Lashley wrecked The Masterpiece by placing him in his own signature hold before ultimately finishing him off with the Dominator. (WATCH)

Lashley’s victory only continued to fuel his momentum en route to WrestleMania and his showdown with Mr. McMahon on next week’s Raw. He has been unstoppable in his march to WrestleMania, showing no fear of the Samoan Bulldozer and decimating everyone McMahon has thrown at him.

But The Chairman has “guaran-dam-teed” that he will defeat the ECW World Champion. The evil egomaniacal billionaire never goes into an encounter without a plan. Tune into Raw next Monday and see what he has in store for Lashley.

While McMahon has been trying to gain an advantage over Lashley in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, the New Breed and the ECW Originals have been trading victories in their ongoing war. Last week, the Originals gained momentum when Tommy Dreamer emerged victorious against all odds in an ECW Originals-New Breed Battle Royal.

This week, Dreamer, Sandman, Rob Van Dam and Sabu weren’t so fortunate, losing twice to the young upstarts. RVD & Sabu were inspired by the news that their mentor – and Sabu’s uncle – The Original Sheik would be inducted into WWE’s Hall of the Fame the night before WrestleMania. But the New Breed team of Kevin Thorn & Marcus Cor Von eked out a victory over “The Whole F’n Show” and Sabu after "The Alpha Male" delivered a thunderous spear to the Homicidal, Suicidal, Genocidal, Death-Defying Maniac. (WATCH)

Dreamer hoped to avenge the loss against Elijah Burke in a battle of the two factions’ apparent leaders. But Burke defeated Dreamer with double knees to the upper back, a manuever he calls "The Elijah Express."

So, it seems the tide has shifted slightly in favor of the New Breed as their pivotal Eight-Man Tag Team Match with the ECW Originals at the sports-entertainment’s grandest stage looms. They have looked for any edge and have sought it in the straightedge Superstar CM Punk.

Punk, the only ECW Superstar to qualify for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania, is the New Breed’s most coveted potential recruit. Smooth-talking Elijah Burke has tried to seduce Punk by telling him the New Breed can give him backing that he can enable him to win Money in the Bank and achieve his dream – a world championship.

Tonight, the New Breed tried to further persuade Punk by giving him a little bit of help in his match with Hardcore Holly. With Burke at ringside, Punk watched as Thorn interfered and helped him get a victory over the super-tough veteran.

Backstage, Punk told Burke that he did not need the New Breed's help. But Burke told the young star that that was only a sample of what the New Breed could do for him.

“Punk, I know you didn’t ask for our help. But that was just a little example of what the New Breed can do for you, especially at WrestleMania and Money in the Bank,” he said.

Punk still has not given an answer to the New Breed. But it appears that he is open to accepting a victory by any means necessary. He has a lot to think about with the biggest match of his career less than two weeks away.

So many Superstars covet an opportunity to compete at WrestleMania, but few in the Land of the Extreme have coveted the chance to get in the ring with Snitsky. The deranged ECW monster continued his path of rage on ECW on Sci Fi, dismantling another unfortunate foe.

Matches

* Marcus Cor Von & Kevin Thorn def. Rob Van Dam & Sabu
* Snitsky def. Local
* CM Punk def. Hardcore Holly
* Elijah Burke def. Tommy Dreamer
* ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley def. Chris Masters

Wrestlemania 24 location announced!

PWTorch.com (link to article)

WWE announced today that WrestleMania 24 will take place at the Florida Citrus Bowl, not Amway Arena, next March, where attendance is expected to exceed 70,000 people.

The Central Florida Sports Commission said the show is expected to bring in $25+ million to the economy.

It's a rare outdoor event for the company. All previous WWE shows and pay-per-views in Orlando have been held at the Amway Arena.

Rob Kamphausen: Sports and Wrestling (direct link to post) citing PWInsider.com a source of the following article:

Adam "Edge" Copeland responded to the SI.com report of his receiving Human Growth Hormone today on his MySpace.com page (www.myspace.com/therealratedrsuperstar):

Dear Blogees (did I just create a word?)

If you are reading this blog and it sees the light of day, than that means that an article has been written by a Sports Illustrated writer that states I received HGH from a pharmacy in 2003. So, I'll cut right to the chase like I always do. It's true. However, it's not exactly breaking, earth shattering news. It's actually old news. I admitted to this on national television in Canada in 2004 on Off The Record. When host Michael Lansberg asked me if I'd ever taken steroids, without consulting me before the show, I was perturbed, but answered without hesitation, "Yes, I have."

In hindsight, I'm glad he asked the question. It got it out in the open and anyone who follows my career or supports me already knows this information about me. I won't try to defend my actions. I took them when coming back from my spinal fusion neck surgery when I was told by doctors that it would help the bones grow back around the screws and plate that were now inserted in my neck. I'm not glorifying. I'm not condoning. Just telling you why I decided to take them. I took blood tests, consulted doctors, read up, studied them, got prescriptions, and decided to do it. That's pretty much it folks, but I wanted you to get my response straight from me and not through the words of another write. Now as I'm sure most you can tell, I don't take steroids and haven't in a very long time, long before the WWE drug testing wellness policy was implemented. Hell, I barely see the inside of a gym anymore, let alone take performance enhancing substances!

So, in closing, to the columnist (not the Sports Illustrated columnist, but actually another one) who said a "roided up thing called Edge" was at the NHL ALL Star Game a few weeks ago, in 2003, this may have been true. Now, not in the least, as my random urine tests, which have always been negative will attest. I guess I'll take the fact that he thought I was as somewhat of a compliment. To the fact that I've been lucky enough to have been gifted with a 6 foot 5, 240lb body naturally. And finally made it to the top of my industry last year on my own, clean as a whistle. To those, like that columnist and any other naysayers that will hold my past against me? I've made mistakes. Will do so again in the future I'm sure. But I won't hide from them. If you're reading this, you know that's not my style.

Until next time, from everybody's favorite, clean urine,
Edgemiester!

TNA Impact! Results: 3-22-07

PWTorch.com (direct link to results)

TNA Impact on Spike TV
March 22, 2007
Taped March 12 in Orlando, Florida
Report by James Caldwell, Torch columnist

We open with a recap of last week's show, focusing on Lethal Lockdown.

Backstage, Kurt Angle, Rhino, and Samoa Joe were joined by Jeremy Borash for a promo. Angle said they're made up of three huge egos and they take pride in being the very best. He told Christian Cage to imagine what happens when three huge egos unite to become a machine that will run over Team Cage at Lockdown. Angle was cut off mid-promo for the usual Impact intro.

1 -- THREE HUGE EGOS (KURT ANGLE & SAMOA JOE & RHINO) vs. SEROTONIN (KAZ & HAVOC & MARTYR)

Ego #1, Rhino, came out first. Samoa Joe then walked out, followed by Kurt Angle. So much for "the machine" uniting when they can't even come out together as a team. Ego #2, Angle, gave Kaz a German suplex early on, then he landed repeated right hand blows. Joe then tagged in and Serotonin showed fear for Ego #3. Joe ran over Havoc (Johnny Devine) with hard blows, then Havoc (Matt Bentley) tagged in and took a snap suplex. Rhino then landed a Gore before Joe gave Martyr the Musclebuster for the win.

WINNERS: THE in 3:00. Good showing from Team Angle to get in signature moves and prove dominance. Serotonin's supposed psychological advantage didn't seem to work. (1/2*)

Backstage, Leticia held the mic as A.J. Styles and Christian Cage argued. Styles said THE looked like a well-oiled machine and in far better shape than Team Cage right now. He said he doesn't know what Christian got him into. Styles brought up the NWA Title shot that Christian guaranteed, and Christian snapped on him for bringing that up again. Christian threatened to rescind his offer, which Styles didn't appreciate. Christian then told him to trust him. He walked off and Styles gave chase like a confused dog looking for his master.

[Commercial Break complete with a disturbing, disgusting, and downright annoying trailer for The Hills Have Eyes 2.]

[Q2]

The cameras caught up to Raven with Serotonin backstage. Raven told his group members that to become transcendent like him, they have to suffer. He poured wax from a candle onto Martyr's back as Kaz looked on while chained up.

Backstage, Borash found Steve Borden and Abyss. Borden said he's tried to point Abyss in the right direction for months, which means he no longer needs his cage. Borden said Abyss would overcome tonight. He said everything he's done has been for his own good. Borden took off his dark sunglasses and revealed a severely bruised and cut right eye. He said the pain he suffered was for Abyss's own good. Borden said they would take out Styles and Christian tonight.

In the ring, Team 3D stood in front of a couple of boxes. Ray then called out LAX. Ray gave LAX their props for beating them the majority of the time, which the fans clapped for. Ray said they did whatever it took to retain the belts, even pissing them off to the nth degree. He said they understand LAX because they're just like them. Ray brought up Konnan's promo from last week when he said LAX wants to take Ray's legacy. Team 3D then opened up their boxes and pulled out old WWE, WCW, and ECW Tag Title belts. Ray pulled out the ECW belts and the fans chanted, "E-C-W." So, basically what Ray is saying is that to be considered a legit wrestler with any credibility, you have to come from a WWE background. Also, completely absurd for TNA wrestlers to encourage a chant for the competition. Right now, it's every man for himself with no one in this company dedicated to making this company seem like a legit promotion. It's about self-preservation and getting yourself over. LAX's music hit again, then Konnan was wheeled to ringside. He then walked into the ring on crutches and circled around Team 3D before standing next to Homicide and Hernandez. Konnan took the mic and said they don't shake hands with nasty gringos. He said Ray's belts don't mean anything because they're already TNA tag team champions. Konnan then suggested they have an electrified cage match just like the borders on the U.S.-Mexico border. Ray then finished Konnan's promo with a middle finger. Backstage, Jim Cornette crumbled up a piece of paper and threw it at the monitor while Leticia stood there holding a mic. Why is she even there? Completely absurd. They cut back to the ring where both sides had a stand off. A lot to like and a lot to hate about this segment.

[Commercial Break]

Backstage, Bob Backlund begged Jim Cornette for a wrestling match at Lockdown. Leticia stood there holding the mic as usual. Backlund then pulled out a urine sample and said he's clean and has never snorted whatever those people snort. Cornette said Backlund can't wrestle at the PPV, but he could referee Starr vs. Senshi. He then said that if Backlund interferes in Starr's match tonight, he wouldn't be able to referee at Lockdown. Backlund stood there with his finger extended for several seconds before leaving.

Eric Young walked out for a match and covered his ears to avoid hearing the pyro. He then started walking down the ramp and the pyro went off to scare him. Starr came into the tunnel and Robert Roode pulled him aside momentarily to discuss something before Starr walked out to the ring.

2 -- ERIC YOUNG vs. THE AUSTIN STARR

Starr landed a corner dropkick early on, then he raked Young's back. Roode and Ms. Brooks then came to ringside for a closer look at the match. Starr went for the pendulum elbow, but Young moved. Young fired up, then landed a back body drop. He went up top and landed an elbow, but Ms. Brooks got on the apron to distract the referee. Roode then entered the ring and gave him a Northern Lariat from behind. Starr followed with a brainbuster suplex for the win.

After the match, Roode and Brooks gave Young a brow-beating, then Petey Williams entered the ring and traded blows with Roode. Brooks then jumped on Petey's back, but Petey flipped her to the mat. Petey and Young shared a moment before Roode pulled Young to the outside. West speculated whether Petey was Young's "friend".

WINNER: Starr in 3:00. Basic match with the focus nowhere near Starr's PPV match against Senshi. Let's hope Petey as Young's "friend" is a red herring, otherwise we're looking at yet another Jackie Gayda blackmail tape storyline with no pay-off. (1/2*)

[Q3]

Backstage, Borash interviewed Jerry Lynn about his upcoming match with James Storm. Lynn said that if Storm brings his beer into the match, he's going to drink his beer and smash the bottle over his head. Lynn told Christopher Daniels to come find him face-to-face and not sneak attack him. The lights suddenly went down, then we heard loud noises. The lights came back on and Daniels was standing over Lynn's fallen body. Daniels then choked out Lynn before security intervened. Don West questioned what the connection is between Daniels and Sting.

[Commercial Break]

Backstage, The Pirate Chris Harris screamed at Jim Cornette while Leticia held the mic. Cornette said TNA cannot take responsibility for Harris possibly being blinded for good. Harris screamed at Cornette that he doesn't know how he feels. Cornette answered that he has to do what's best for the company and when a doctor hands him a note that says Harris has 100 percent vision, then Harris would get his match against Storm. Harris paused then said Cornette's best isn't good enough. He stormed off.

James Storm and Miss Jackie came to the ring, then another referee entered the ring and said Jerry Lynn is injured and can't wrestle. Storm grabbed the mic and said there are only two things he likes to do. 1) Drink beer. 2) Beat people up. Storm said he's out of beer, so he wants to fight someone from either side of the tunnel. Chris Harris then came to ringside to answer the challenge before Gail Kim cut him off. Jackie set off Gail by calling her a slut, then Gail jumped Jackie in the ring. Harris followed suit and chased Storm around the ring like Tom and Jerry. They left through the entrance tunnel while Gail and Jackie continued to fight until referees intervened. West gave us some insight that Gail and Jackie don't punch like girls; they really hit hard. He then suggested they lock up the women in a cage at Lockdown.

[Commercial Break]

[Q4]

We saw a preview for A.J. Styles Volume 2. Styles spent time in jail during high school and he had a horrible mid-90s haircut to boot.

Backstage, Gail Kim stormed into Cornette's office and demanded a match with Jackie. Cornette couldn't get a word in before Jackie jumped Gail from behind. They tore up Cornette's office before the security guards intervened again.

We saw a video package on Sting revealing Abyss's secret about shooting his dad in the back.

3 -- NWA champion CHRISTIAN CAGE & A.J. STYLES vs. STING & ABYSS

The wrestlers paired off to start the match. Abyss and Sting landed dual Stinger Splashes in opposite corners before Sting pounded on Christian with right hand blows in the corner. Styles then jumped Sting from the apron allowing Christian to hit a dropkick from the second rope. Styles scored with a nearfall before they cut to a break.

[Commercial Break]

The fans were clapping for something right out of the break. Christian then caught Sting with knees to the gut before going up top and missing with a terribly awkward diving headbutt attempt. Sting then tagged to Abyss, who ran over Styles and Christian. He then caught Styles with a big boot to the face before dropping him with the Shock Treatment. He made a cover, but Christian broke it up with a weak right hand jab. Abyss went for the Shock Treatment on Christian, but Styles cut him off. Abyss came back with a double clothesline before Sting hit a top rope cross body block on both opponents. James Mitchell then brought a woman out on stage. Abyss grabbed his haris and walked up the entrance ramp as Sting watched from inside the ring. Some seriously bad acting from the woman before Mitchell led her back up the ramp. Abyss followed up the tunnel like a zombie. Tenay said the woman had some sort of power over Abyss. Unless that woman was packing some heat, the only power she might have had was a powerball lottery ticket in her purse. Styles and Christian then jumped Sting from behind. Sting did his Superman comeback, though, and put Styles in the Scorpion Deathlock. But, Christian had the ref distracted, which allowed Scott Steiner to enter the ring with a gimmick and nail Sting in the back with it. Sting dropped to the mat, then Styles made the cover for the win.

WINNERS: Christian & Styles in 10:00. Abyss gave us a completely unnatural response to re-discovering a woman who we presume to be his mom. Considering the fundamentals of Abyss's character, then it worked. Good match until the bizarre acting took over. For Styles and Christian to work as a serious main event tag team, they can't take these beatings on a weekly basis. They need their hired big men to take the poundings while they stand back and direct traffic and talk themselves up in their promos. Steiner should be taking the pounding because he has built-in credibility as a badass heel, not making the save for his two smaller buddies. (*3/4)

WWE Smackdown Results: 3-23-07

Untamed fury
By Lennie DiFino
March 23, 2007

Only nine days remain until WrestleMania 23 in Detroit, and the Superstars of SmackDown continue to build their own momentum heading into the biggest event of the year.

World Heavyweight Champion Batista told Kristal, “Undertaker and I can co-exist tonight during the match, but after the match it’s a different story,” he said. “I will walk out of WrestleMania still the World Heavyweight Champion.”

The Animal was scheduled to team with his WrestleMania opponent Undertaker to take on King Booker and Finlay, but was attacked from behind, leaving Undertaker to face the former United States Champion Finlay and former World Heavyweight Champion King Booker alone.

Undertaker seemed to be firmly in control, but Finlay used the shillelagh, causing the disqualification and allowing the Irishman and King Booker to double team the Phenom. The Animal rushed to the ring to aid Undertaker, and they looked to be working together to dismantle Finlay and Booker. However, moments later Batista launched King Booker into Undertaker, undoubtedly payback for last week when Undertaker tossed Finlay into the World Heavyweight Champion.

As Michael Cole noted when SmackDown went off the air, “the animosity between Undertaker and Batista is heating up.” He then questioned, “will the action be even hotter in the tag match this Monday on Raw and will it reach a boiling point next week on SmackDown?”

Next week, WrestleMania 23 will be just two days away, and WWE fans are in for a treat. General Manager Theodore Long has granted JBL his request to host the biggest interview in sports-entertainment history – Undertaker and Batista face-to-face.

Mr. McMahon began SmackDown gloating about the “vivid message” he sent to Donald Trump when he shaved Eugene’s head on Raw. Mr. McMahon then went on to guarantee a victory Monday night when he faces ECW World Champion Lashley.

The Chairman then made a match for SmackDown that pitted Lashley in a Handicap Tables Match against Mr. Kennedy and Randy Orton, the first Tables Match of any kind on WWE television in two years.

With the odds stacked highly against him, Lashley was able to overpower his opponents to get the victory by putting Kennedy and Orton through tables, much to the disgust of Mr. McMahon. Lashley is on a roll. Monday he became the first man to break the Masterlock, Tuesday he defeated Chris Masters on ECW on Sci Fi, and on SmackDown he prevailed in the Handicap Tables Match. What will happen Monday night when he faces the Chairman?

WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London & Brian Kendrick defeated MNM after Ashley prevented Melina from interfering. London & Kendrick have held the titles for 307 days, and they continued to show why they are champions.

Playboy cover girl Ashley and Women’s Champion Melina continued their personal rivalry, one that has included a brutal war of words on WWE.com. The two Divas are on a crash course for Melina’s Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 23, and each looks to establish themselves as the top Diva in WWE.

MVP was victorious in his match against the Lichtenstein Champion – Cedrick Von Haussen. The cocky and confident Superstar then claimed that United States Champion Chris Benoit would make history as the first man to lose a title to Montel Vontavious Porter. MVP may be looking to win the title, but if he overlooks the Rabid Wolverine, he might be left holding fool’s gold.

Kane told Kristal, “all the way,” is how far he is willing to go in his match versus Khali at WrestleMania. Can Ford Field contain these two behemoths?

Jimmy Wang Yang defeated Cruiserweight Champion of the World Chavo Guerrero in non-title action. Guerrero looked dominant for most of the match, but Yang was able to bounce back to get the hard-earned victory.

The Wild Samoans were announced as the next inductees into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2007, joining an impressive list of former greats being honored at this years ceremony.

Matches
WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London & Brian Kendrick def. MNM
MVP def. Lichtenstein Champion Cedrick Von Haussen
Lashley def. Mr. Kennedy and Randy Orton in Handicap Tables Match
Jimmy Wang Yang def. Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero (Non-title)
United States Champion Chris Benoit def. Gregory Helms
Undertaker & World Heavyweight Champion Batista def. Finlay & King Booker (Disqualification)

Last night's Smackdown averaged a 2.9 rating in the Fast Nationals, up from last week's 2.7 rating. The first hour averaged a 2.7 followed by a 3.3 second hour. The show finished last for the night, as FOX had a strong Friday night line-up to separate itself from Smackdown. The second hour of Smackdown beat ABC for fourth place in overall viewers. In the adult 18-49 demographic, Smackdown jumped to a 1.7 rating after averaging 1.5 last week.

Backstage Heat On Cena, Chavo Leaving WWE?

--Cruiserweight champion Chavo Guerrero’s contract is set to expire this April. No word yet on if he plans to resign; however WWE normally tries to persuade talent to resign several weeks before their contracts expire. This helps prevent talent from working a WWE show one night and TNA the next.

--Talent backstage in the RAW locker room is said to be somewhat agitated at WWE champion John Cena. The word is that he is viewed as Vince McMahon’s “pet” and that they both spend a lot of time together.

Don't know if Chavo will leave, especially since he's currently holding the WWE Cruiserweight belt. If he loses it quick, then that may be a sign of things to come...

WWE McMahon's 'Poor Taste' Comment Slammed

ORLANDO, Fla. -- An off-camera comment from WWE Chairman Vince McMahon saying questions concerning performance-enhancing drugs in wrestling were in "poor taste" during an Orlando event prompted a stinging reply from Local 6 sports director Todd Lewis during a newscast.

On Wednesday, McMahon and city officials announced Orlando's Citrus Bowl will host the premiere event of the WWE, WrestleMania 24.

Lewis said the announcement came with controversy after a report stated 11 current or former WWE wrestlers used illegal performance-enhancing drugs.

"Despite the large, young audience, McMahon made no apologies," Lewis said.

"I don't think it sends a negative message," McMahon said. "It would be one thing if that were brought out and promoted in our events and things of that nature. We are talking about a minority of individuals that do things like this and you are going to find it everywhere."

After the interview, McMahon said bringing up the subject of performance-enhancing drugs at the event was in poor taste, Lewis reported.

Lewis responded to McMahon's comment during Local 6's 6 p.m news show.

"Vince, you have your employees dying prematurely due to health problems from steroid use, you send women out to wrestle in dental floss with more silicon in their body than a Tupperware convention and you are going to lecture people about poor taste?" Lewis said. "Make sure you Windex that glass house you live in before throwing those stones, my friend."

The WrestleMania event is expected to pump more than $25 million into the local economy.

WWE has real faith in its ECW brand...

From wrestlezone.com

Officials Fear Protest At ECW One Night Stand

One of the main reasons for WWE moving this year’s ECW One Night Stand pay-per-view out of the Hammerstein Ballroom is due to the fact that the brand flopped and this year’s event will be ECW/RAW/SmackDown One night Stand. WWE officials feared that they could potentially face massive embarrassment due to “old school” ECW fans using the event as a protest vehicle. Stephanie McMahon argued in meetings that if Paul Heyman was still with the company, he would find ways to get fans in New York to sabotage the show.

I guess the ECW fans meant what they said about if Cena Wins, We Riot. :buttrock:
