Mike Awesome passes away
wwe.com

WWE is saddened by news of the passing of Mike Alfonso, better known to wrestling fans as Mike Awesome. He was 42.

Mike Awesome's first major exposure came overseas, where he became one of the Japan's top stars. Awesome would eventually become a star and champion in America while wrestling for Extreme Championship Wrestling. Following his successful run in ECW, Awesome spent time working in WCW and later WWE before retiring to his native Tampa, Florida.

While in ECW, Awesome was a two-time World Champion and Tag Team Champion. His matches with Masato Tanaka, including a show-stealer at One Night Stand in 2005 were among the most memorable in ECW history.

Kind of sad, considering I'm almost the same age as Mike. R.I.P. Mike :(

Follow-up on Mike Awesome's death...

The cause of death is believed to be suicide, as the Wrestling Observer reports that his family found him hanging in his home.

He had retired from pro wrestling and was working as a realtor since his last appearance with WWE.

First time i saw Mike Alfonso(Awesome) was on the original ECW. Boy, did he make a first impression with that tone of voice and mullet. I thought, who the heck is this bulky dude with the Billy Ray Cyrus hairdo? He sounds horrible on the mic.

A couple years later, I saw some dude named that 70's guy, Mike Awesome. The Fat Chick Thrilla. That was a good laugh.

He was paired up with Chuck Polumbo for a while too. I thought that was decent.

Never was a real fan of his but the man could deliever a match with Masahiro Tanaka. Those were great. R.I.P Mike.

WWE RAW Results: 2-19-07

Results:
Chairman's Choice
By Brett Hoffman
February 19, 2007

On a hectic night of Raw action, Umaga stole the spotlight when he was named by Mr. McMahon as his representative in the Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania 23 and later went on to decimate Jeff Hardy en route to capturing the Intercontinental Championship. Also, HBK lived up to his promise to watch John Cena’s back, Melina became the new WWE Women’s Champion and Edge punched his ticket to Detroit, all as the Road to WrestleMania blazed a trail through Bakersfield, Calif.

Surrounded by a barber chair and the respective tools of the trade, Mr. McMahon opened Raw by showing the WWE fans a blueprint of his plans for Trump’s treasured head of hair. The Chairman unveiled a series of photos, each depicting a different hairstyle which McMahon was considering for The Donald’s dome should his representative win in WrestleMania’s Battle of the Billionaires. After promising to “beat the hell out of” Trump, Mr. McMahon revealed the man who will fight on his behalf at WrestleMania to be none other than Samoan Bulldozer, Umaga. Next week, Donald Trump will reveal his selection, but can anyone stop Umaga and protect The Donald’s golden locks?

Seconds after he was revealed to be the Chairman’s choice, Umaga was given an opportunity to face Jeff Hardy for the Intercontinental Championship. Perhaps in a display of what he has in store for Trump's representative at Detroit’s Ford Field, Umaga manhandled the popular Superstar. The Bulldozer finished off Hardy with a devastating Samoan Spike, and made the pin to capture his first taste of WWE gold.

"Everybody saw it Amigo," said Armando following Umaga's big night. "The Samoan Bulldozer destroyed Jeff Hardy and became the new champ. Now, he will go to WrestleMania and destroy Donald Trump's representative."

Recently, Shawn Michaels promised John Cena that he would watch his back on the Road to WrestleMania. On Monday night, HBK lived up to his word on two occasions. Early on in the evening, Cena was accosted by everyone’s favorite corpulent male stripper, Big Dick Johnson. It appeared for a few seconds as if the champ was going to vomit, until HBK saved the day by giving the chunky dancer a dose of Sweet Chin Music.

Later, HBK came to Cena’s rescue again during the Raw main event. The champ faced off with Randy Orton in non-title action. At one point, Cena had Orton up for the F-U, and appeared to be seconds away from another victory when Edge stormed the ring and assaulted the champ, causing the ref to call for a disqualification. For a few moments, Rated-RKO stood over their fallen prey like a pair of starving wolves, salivating at the thought of the damage they could do the prone WWE Champion. The duo set Cena up for the con-chair-to, but before they could pull the trigger, HBK ran to the ring and took out Rated-RKO with a chair. For another week, Michaels lived up to his promise. Next week, he will be put to the test again when HBK and Cena defend their tag titles against Rated-RKO on Raw.

The Money in the Bank Ladder Match will again be a part of WrestleMania this year. The first man to qualify for this year’s edition is former Money in the Bank winner, Edge. The Rated-R Superstar took advantage of an assist from Randy Orton to defeat last year’s Money in the Bank winner Rob Van Dam and confirm his ticket to WrestleMania. Edge has proven how valuable the opportunity can be. Will he provide a repeat performance?

A new Women’s Champion was crowned on Raw. With the paparazzi surrounding the ring, Melina shocked the Bakersfield fans when she rolled up Mickie for the win to claim her first WWE title. In a post-match interview with Todd Grisham, Melina seemed more interested in complaining about all the recent attention SmackDown Diva Ashley has received over her appearance on the cover of Playboy.

Two weeks ago on Raw, an angry Ric Flair confronted and scolded Carlito for his apparent carefree attitude following a loss on Raw. A week ago, the Nature Boy faced Carlito in singles action, and the 16-time World Champion prevailed. Out of respect for Flair, Carlito requested the opportunity to tag with the Nature Boy this week on Raw. The new duo worked together to dispose of the veteran combination of Cade & Murdoch. Is Carlito finally back on track after a lesson from the Nature Boy?

In other Raw action, The Great Khali demolished the Highlanders in a Handicap Match and later told Jonathan Coachman that he wanted some tougher competition.

Matches
Umaga def. Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy
Ric Flair & Carlito def. Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch
Edge def. Rob Van Dam in a Money in the Bank qualifying match
Melina def. Women's Champion Mickie James
The Great Khali def. The Highlanders
WWE Champion John Cena def. Randy Orton (DQ)

I haven't watched WWE/F constantly for 3 years now, though I do catch it from time to time. Ugh, big men can't wrestle.

I figured RVD would job to Edge what w/the contract dispute, the arrest that led to the suspension, and the backstage politics and whatnot.

ECW on Sci-Fi Results: 2-20-07

Results:
Dominant gene
By Craig Tello
February 20, 2007

With the Land of the Extreme flooded by irreverent New Breeders and Superstars from both Raw and SmackDown, Extremists who proudly carry the flag of the extreme brand proved to be dominant on ECW on Sci Fi.

The foremost impressive display of dominance took place in the main event on Tuesday night as ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley held his own against two gold-hungry competitors – Mr. Kennedy and Hardcore Holly – in a Triple Threat Match.

In this type of contest, Lashley’s title was in serious jeopardy as the champion could lose the gold without even being pinned. The ECW World Champion was also facing the man who beat him by disqualification days before at No Way Out in Kennedy, as well as the wily, rugged veteran Holly.

With the help of a steel chair, the Alabaman Extremist was within inches of beating Lashley until Kennedy interrupted the referee’s pinfall count. The SmackDown star then tried to use the same chair on the champion who foresaw the attack and ducked, causing Kennedy to blast Holly. Lashley then capitalized, taking the fight to Kennedy and driving him to the mat with a running powerslam. Days after he nearly crippled Kennedy with a steel chair, the fighting champion pinned Kennedy in front of a sold-out crowd to silence the loudmouth from Green Bay and retain his title.

In yet another inter-promotional contest on ECW territory, CM Punk became the first Extremist to secure his position at WrestleMania 23 by defeating Johnny Nitro in a Money in the Bank qualifying match. Joining Raw qualifier Edge, the straightedge Extremist who craves competition will find just that on April 1 in the 6-man Ladder Match. With an open contract for a World Championship match suspended above the ring, Money in the Bank could be just the opportunity CM Punk needs to reach the pinnacle of ECW. (WATCH)

Another proud Extremist, Rob Van Dam, also gained some much-needed momentum for the ECW Originals by besting Kevin Thorn in singles action. This week, Thorn made his way to the ring with more than just Ariel by his side. The macabre Extremist and his fellow New Breed members came to the ring where they proclaimed their unity and selected Thorn to represent them in action tonight. This drew out the ECW Originals who chose RVD to engage the morbid New Breed representative.

With both camps looking on from either side of the ring, the match turned to bedlam as the New Breed attacked RVD, forcing the Originals to defend their ally. After ECW officials finally managed to clear the ringside area and send all non-competing Originals and New Breeders to the locker room area, Van Dam went head-to-head with his unorthodox opponent and slayed the vampire with an incredible Five-Star Frog Splash.

Finally, the Land of the Extreme enhanced its foreign relations policy with the arrival of former World Tag Team Champions La Resistance. Claiming to be the “greatest tag team of all time,” the pair showcased their talents in action on ECW on Sci Fi by making extremely quick work of their opponents.

Just moments after Sylvan and Rene Dupree earned their first ECW victory, the unstable Snitsky made his way to the ring. Picking the bones of La Resistance’s defeated opponents, the deranged monster left not one, but two men incapacitated on Tuesday night.

Matches
Rob Van Dam def. Kevin Thorn
CM Punk def. Johnny Nitro in a Money in the Bank qualifying match
La Resistance def. Los Luchas
ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley def. Hardcore Holly & Mr. Kennedy (Triple Threat Match)

Here's more on it courtesy of my friends over at ComicBloc:

It was shown on E! covering a photoshoot that Trumps representative will be Lashley, so it'll be Lashley with Trump vs. Umaga with McMahon.

they also showed that there's a special guest referee, Stone Cold Steve Austin

Lashley vs. Umaga....EWWWWW what the hell kind of hair brained, half assed, poorly thought out, squash match are they trying to make us watch? This doesnt even sound entertaining. On one side you have Umaga, one of the most boring, and underserving of a push guys on the Raw roster and then on the other you have Lashley who, while an interesting character he ISNT championship material, cant carry a match, and SHOULDNT be carrying an entire brand on his shoulders. Vince is driving ECW right into the ground with this crap.

Is TNA In Jeopardy Of Being Cancelled?, Major News

The Pro Wrestling Torch is reporting that there has been lots of talk regarding TNA's programming last week with the "This is TNA!" special airing on February 12 (which drew a 1.2 rating) and a new episode of TNA iMPACT! that aired on February 15 (which only drew a 0.6 rating going head-to-head with WWE Raw). Given the number TNA drew on Monday night going unopposed with WWE Monday Night Raw being preempted in the United States until Thursday due to the Westminster Dog Show, many were left scratching their heads as to why TNA chose to do a "Best Of" show instead of a new live show building off current storylines in the company and especially the day after the Against All Odds PPV.

According to reports, one reason why TNA didn't make this move was the company's issue with having to "learn on the fly" so to speak on how to insert commercials into a live broadcast. While that may sound like a strange reason seeing as TNA produces live three-hour PPV events every month, the company does not have live TV experience. So doing live TV with commercial feeds requires another level of production that TNA isn't currently equipped for right now. It should also be noted that TNA President Dixie Carter wanted to change the name of the special from "This is TNA!" to "This is TNA Wrestling!" a week before it aired so viewers looking through a guide would see "wrestling" in the title. However, Carter was told that it was too late to make the change.

As for the new episode of iMPACT! last Thursday, TNA officials obviously weren't thrilled about the lower rating iMPACT! garnered on Thursday, but also weren't expecting a strong number at the same time. Says one TNA source, "Last week, we knew we'd be spanked by WWE on Thursday. The real test is this week, without competition from RAW on Thursday." So while the company had a hard time drawing viewers going up against WWE Raw, if they are able to improve on the 1.2 record rating from two weeks ago (which drew a record 1.6 million viewers), it could likely be attributed to earning new viewers thanks to the Monday night special last week.

While many in the wrestling media were quick to bury TNA following its subpar numbers last week, especially going head-to-head with WWE on last Thursday night, one TV industry source claims the whole situation regarding TNA is a wash, but that the company isn't in bad shape right now. This TV source added quote, "Anyone who knows anything about the TV industry knows that you put a check mark in the success column next to TNA's name. It's one of Spike's top three programs each week in its timeslot in the male 18-34 demo. TNA is more likely to leave Spike because of a better offer from another cable station down the line than Spike is to cancel TNA."

When one TNA source was asked if TNA has any plans of presenting a live TV show on Spike TV anytime soon, the source added quote, "The internal attitude is we'll go live when we're ready. We just don't feel ready yet."

TNA Impact! Results: 2-22-07

TNA Impact on Spike TV
February 22, 2007
Taped January 12 in Orlando, Florida
Report by James Caldwell, Torch columnist

We open with a look at the five-man ladder match to determine Chris Sabin's X Division Title match opponent at Destination X. We then saw a recap of last week's show.

A.J. Styles opened the show by walking to the ringside area. He then climbed the Elevation X structure and stood in the center to cut a promo. Styles claimed to have invented Elevation X and perfected the X Division. Tenay and West continued to talk, and talk, and talk, and talk when Styles paused. Styles said he's going to give someone the opportunity to become famous since no one can be phenomenal. Rhino's music hit, then he walked out. Tenay said he never expected Rhino to answer Styles's challenge. Well, considering they're booked in a PPV match in two-and-a-half weeks, it's not a surprise. Rhino chased Styles up the structure, then Styles left down the side exit. Rhino stood on top of the structure and accepted Styles's challenge for an Elevation X match that was already advertised.

Borash interviewed Team 3D and Steve Schirripa backstage. Ray said they're looking forward to the first-ever Belting Pot match. He said they can count on their big cousin Steve, but then asked if LAX can count on their invalid manager, Konnan. Steve talked about sticking together because they're family. Devon said his one line.

LAX and the Latino Nation then came to ringside before they cut to a break.

[Commercial Break]

[Q2]

1 -- LAX (HOMICIDE & HERNANDEZ w/Konnan and Latino Nation) vs. TEAM 3D (BROTHER RAY & BROTHER DEVON w/Steve Schirripa and The Family) -- Belting Pot match -- non-title match

Devon scored with a Thesz Press on Homicide to start things off. Devon then dumped Homicide to the floor and "The Family" of lumberjacks clubbed Homicide while Ray stomped on his head. There was a brief "3D...sucks" chant before Devon was dumped to the outside and "The Gangsters" whipped Devon. Ray took a hot tag and gave LAX dual hip tosses. Ray then gave Hernandez a lift-up slam for a nearfall after throwing Homicide to the floor. Ray and Devon teamed up for a hangman's neckbreaker, then Homicide broke up a pin attempt. After Devon and Hernandez were dumped to the outside, an ethnic fight broke out on the outside. Steve then entered the ring and held Homicide's legs apart for Devon to hit a diving headbutt between the legs. I don't even know why TNA has referees. Team 3D then hooked up on a 3D on Hernandez for the win. Afterward, The Family celebrated in the ring.

WINNERS: Team 3D in 6:00. A very rushed match with too much focus on non-wrestlers. TNA did set records for most ethnic stereotypes exploited in six minutes, but I don't think that's what they wanted viewers to take away from the match. (1/2*)

We saw footage on the Sting vs. Abyss feud. The voice-over man promised that we would hear from Sting on his death bed.

[Commercial Break]

They cut to Sting flat on his back on a mesh casket in a pre-tape video package. He said there is life after death. He then talked about yet another match with Abyss, this one at Destination X. He basically said they're having a gimmick match where he has to put Abyss on the "casket" and raise him to the heavens. Sting asked Abyss if he was going to choose life since he doesn't have the devil (James Mitchell) in his ear anymore.

Borash then found Abyss backstage pounding his head into a cage wall. He asked Abyss if he heard the comments from Sting, then asked where Mitchell is. Borash realized that Abyss wasn't going to say anything, then he tried to sign off, but Abyss grabbed him and threw him into the cage wall.

[Q3]

2 -- ROBERT ROODE (w/Ms. Brooks) & ERIC YOUNG & JAMES STORM (w/Jackie Moore) vs. B.G. JAMES & KIP JAMES & LANCE HOYT

B.G. and Young did a dance, then Storm tried to run into the ring, but he took a double clothesline from Young and B.G. Roode then entered and reprimanded Young for doing wrong. Roode gave B.G. a hard clothesline, then the heels isolated B.G. in their corner. Hoyt took a quick tag and gave Storm a pancake slam. He then went up, but Roode tripped him with Hebner distracted by someone. We don't even know who. Again, I ask why TNA even has referees. Storm then rolled up Hoyt for the win. Afterward, the Pirate Chris Harris jumped the guardrail and chased Storm around the ring as if Tom & Jerry just came to life.

WINNERS: ROODE & YOUNG & STORM in 2:00. If the opening match was rushed, this was beyond rushed. Completely pointless. (n/a)

Christopher Daniels did a pre-tape video on his soul-searching. He said the important thing is that he has to be willing to sacrifice who he is to become who he wants to be.

Suddenly, Don West was in the ring with Andre Rison. West asked Rison how it felt to be back in shoulder pads on Pros vs. Joes. They edited this heavily, then Abyss's music hit. West asked Abyss if he had something to say. Rison extended a hand, then Abyss took it and gave Rison a Black Hole Slam.

[Commercial Break]

We saw a quick movie poster for "Rambuck Killings" starring Ron Killings.

We saw a recap of Rison taking the Black Hole Slam in the previous segment. Tenay and West then talked about the #1 Contender ladder match.

Eye Spy this week was back with Paparazzi Idol. Jay Lethal did another Randy Savage impersonation. Nash then pulled Lethal in close and told him to play the race card. Lethal then put on a black cowboy hat and thanked Nash for the hat.

Tenay was now joined by Jim Cornette in the ring with a contract table over a red carpet. Cornette broke down the Destination X card. He said both Christian Cage and Samoa Joe are in training this week before their NWA Title match. Maybe we could get some of that footage instead of a repeat Paparazzi Idol segment? Cornette then introduced Scott Steiner and Kurt Angle for the contract signing. This was the longest pro wrestling contract table in history. Not good, not bad, just different. Everyone sat down, then Cornette talked about the official execution of the instrument. Steiner guaranteed he'd beat Steiner, then he said he would melt down the Olympic gold medal, then see how much money he could get for it. Angle took the mic and said his reasons for coming to TNA weren't for the money, but to make the company bigger and better. What does this have to do with a wrestling match? Angle said Steiner came to TNA to rape it for every cent that it's worth worth. He said he was going to make an example out of Steiner, then told him to make as much as he can with the match because he was going to end his career. West continued to yap during pauses without letting the moment tell its own story. Steiner and Angle turned over the table, then Steiner gave Angle a headbutt. Tomko then jumped Angle, who was bleeding from the forehead. Suddenly, Christian jumped into the ring to show up Cornette for being a sucker believing that Christian was in training. They beat down Angle, then Steiner shoved the contract in Angle's mouth and posed over him.

[Q4]

[Commercial Break]

Samoa Joe cut a promo about Christian Cage. He said he learned about his limitations facing Kurt Angle, while being denied of his title shot for 20 months. Joe said Christian would learn why he is Samoa Joe and the Samoan submission machine at Destination X.

3 -- AUSTIN STARR vs. SENSHI vs. JERRY LYNN vs. SONJAY DUTT vs. JAY LETHAL -- #1 Contender ladder match

Starr and Senshi brawled to the floor to start things off. Lethal and Dutt then double-teamed Lynn, but Lynn came back with a back breaker on both men. Lynn slid a ladder into the ring, then Dutt grabbed it and ran off the ladder for a dropkick onto Lynn. They kicked a second ladder into Starr and Senshi on the outside. We then saw Bob Backlund step out on the entrance stage.

[Commercial Break]

Senshi caught Lynn with a double foot stomp to the chest out of the break. Starr then gave him a dropkick before catching Lethal with a dropkick sending the ladder into his face. Lynn quickly recovered, then three ladders were set up in the middle of the ring. Everyone except for Lynn battled on the ladders before Lynn powerbombed Lethal and Dutt to the mat. Senshi tried to grab the "X" hanging above the ring. With the action reaching its climax, Tenay and West decided it was the best time to discuss Kurt Angle's health. Lynn then fought of the whippersnappers and retrieved the "X" to win the match.

Backlund then entered the ring and shook Lynn's hand. Starr wasn't happy with Backlund, so he wiped his sweat in Backlund's face. Backlund then put him in the Crossface Chicken wing and threw him around the ringside area. End DVR.

WINNER: Lynn in 6:00. Another rushed match where it didn't feel like anything was on the line despite the #1 Contender stipulation. TNA continues to bury the younger stars by having Lynn beat them in matches that should be won by a more athletic wrestler. Imagine if the NBA decided to put Michael Jordan in the Slam Dunk Contest last weekend. Sure, he could probably still out-dunk the younger guys, but why make the future NBA stars look bad by putting them in a position to be shown up by a 44-year-old retired player in an athletic contest? The Feb. 19 edition of Raw drew a 4.0 rating (4.02 first hour, 4.03 second hour) with 5.2 million viewers. That's in line with what it's been drawing lately.

It drew a 3.4 in the M18-49 demographic and a 3.85 in the M18-34 demographic.

Catching up with Kevin Sullivan

WWE.com (link to story)

For more than thirty years, “The Taskmaster” Kevin Sullivan terrorized opponents all over the world with his methodical, aggressive and hardcore in-ring (and often outside the ring) tactics. From matchmaking to main-eventing, the New England native with the pronounced Boston accent has seen it all in sports-entertainment.

Sullivan’s accomplished career began nearly four decades ago when he made a name for himself competing in Florida. In the years that followed, Sullivan’s career would weave its way all over the country and he would gain fame as the leader of the “Varsity Club,” with fellow amateur wrestling specialists Rick Steiner, Mike Rotunda and Steve Williams.

While working in the Sunshine State in the early 70’s, Kevin crossed paths with a certain golden-haired individual who would later go to be a household name.

“I knew Hulk Hogan before he ever thought of becoming a wrestler,” recalls Sullivan. “He was playing bass guitar in a lounge in Tampa, Fla., and we never talked about wrestling.”

Sullivan was also there for one of Hogan’s first matches in Mobile, Ala. The Taskmaster remembers there was something special about the man who was then competing as “Sterling Golden.”

“He had a special presence in the ring,” says Sullivan. “I could tell he was going to make it, and that he was going to become a major star.”

Little did Sullivan know that more than two decades later, he would become a major player in WCW as “The Taskmaster,” and lead his Dungeon of Doom on a bitter quest to end the phenomenon known as Hulkamania. A few years later, perhaps fueled by his inability to conquer Hulkamania, Kevin Sullivan hung up the boots for good.

“Wrestling is a young man’s sport,” says Sullivan. “I knew my time had passed, and that it was time to move on.”

Moving on for Sullivan meant returning to his home in the Florida Keys. There, he owns and operates “Froggy’s Fitness” in Tavernier, Florida, the largest gym in the Keys. While Sullivan likes to stay active in the gym, there are other activities that now consume his time as well, including a business he started with a friend.

“I’m in the lobster business,” said Sullivan. “Me and a friend have 5,000 lobster traps between us, and we sell them commercially. We have a staff that helps us out, but I like to head out there on the boat myself from time to time and pull some lobsters.”

Sullivan also keeps busy with a number of other hobbies. The former Taskmaster makes use of his aquatic surroundings, taking the occasional dive into the surrounding ocean and competing in local shellfish tournaments. Kevin is also involved in an upcoming film project about independent wrestling entitled “Card Subject to Change.” In addition, the self-professed sports fan was recently spotted in Miami as a spectator at Super Bowl XLI.

When he’s not in Florida, Sullivan can be found at his home on Whidbey Island, eighty miles northwest of Seattle. The retired Superstar tries to spend time every month at his west coast retreat.

“I’m in the 8th and the 49th parallel,” said Sullivan. ‘I have a place up there that’s right on the beach. It’s a nice place to kick back and relax.”

With his successful career firmly behind him, Sullivan told WWE.com that he doesn’t miss climbing into the ring. The veteran bruiser is proud of his career, but even prouder that he was able to move on from the business that he dedicated most of his adult life to.

“I don’t miss it anymore,” said Sullivan. “I had a lot of great experiences and worked with some great people. It was a wonderful time in my life, and I have nothing but fond memories.”

EDIT: Here's the link to WWE: Where are they now?. They add a new wrestler and story every week.

WWE Smackdown Results: 2-23-07

Checks and balances
By Lennie DiFino
February 23, 2007

The World Heavyweight Champion Batista has made it clear that he is ready heading into his match with Undertaker at WrestleMania 23.

On SmackDown this week, The Animal explained to WWE fans the reasons for his actions at No Way Out, when he Spinebustered Undertaker, causing the duo to lose their tag team match versus John Cena & Shawn Michaels.

“I cannot apologize for what I did at No Way Out,” said Batista. “Undertaker, we are even. Now we can go on to WrestleMania and give WWE fans a match they’ll never forget.” He continued, “I respect you Undertaker, but I am not intimidated by anyone.”

Batista’s strong message for Undertaker is sure to be answered next week, when the Phenom is scheduled to appear on SmackDown to offer his reply.

Rey Mysterio’s special appearance in his hometown of San Diego and a WWE ring was supposed to be a special moment for the former World Champion. The hometown crowd showered Mysterio with thunderous applause, to which Rey replied, “it feels so good to be in a WWE ring again, but it feels better to be back in my hometown – the 619.”

Rey’s ambitious spirit was evident when he exclaimed to WWE fans, “I wish I could wrestle right here, right now.” Rey continued, “I’ll be back soon, better than ever before.”

Hell-bent on the Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania 23, Mr. McMahon chose this opportunity to steal the spotlight as he entered the arena. He then questioned Rey as to who he thought would win the match in Detroit April 1.

Mysterio responded, “You are a loser Vince,” which sent both the crowd, and the Chairman, into separate frenzies. To the shock of the SmackDown fans at the sold out ipayOne Center, Mr. McMahon introduced Umaga, who entered the ring. Following the direction of the Chairman, Umaga unleashed a horrific attack on Rey, leaving the hometown hero lifeless in the center of the ring. WWE.com will have an update on Rey’s condition tomorrow.

Mr. McMahon sent Donald Trump, and whoever Mr. Trump chooses as his representative, a loud message heading into Monday Night Raw, when Trump will reveal his choice.

In a brutal, personal match stemming from the incidents of Royal Rumble, (where Kane was eliminated by an already eliminated King Booker) Kane looked to have the advantage. However, out of nowhere, Raw Superstar Great Khali appeared.

Khali decimated Kane, throwing The Big Red Monster through the ringside barrier. King Booker took advantage, and walked away with a victory. This victory gives him a spot in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania 23. As Michael Cole pointed out tonight, “on Raw, Khali had told Executive Assistant Jonathan Coachman he was looking for some competition, and he may get more than he asked for with The Big Red Monster.”

In other action, Matt Hardy teamed with WWE Tag Team Champion Paul London & Brian Kendrick to take on Joey Mercury with Deuce & Domino.

Still angry over what many consider to be an upset at the hands of London & Kendrick, Deuce & Domino controlled much of the action in this match, looking to make a statement. When Matt Hardy finally entered the ring, the momentum turned, and Hardy was able to pick up the victory by pinning rival Joey Mercury.

Finlay & Little Bastard teamed up again to take on Boogeyman & Little Boogeyman in a No Way Out Rematch. Little Boogeyman delivered a low blow to Finlay during the course of the match, but in the end, after a shillelagh to the Boogeyman’s knee, Boogeyman was Little DDT’d by Little Bastard, who covered Boogeyman for the victory.

The new Cruiserweight Champion – Chavo Guerrero, not a fan favorite in San Diego for putting Rey Mysterio out of action, defeated Scotty 2 Hotty in his first title defense since dethroning Gregory Helms. Chavo stole the victory from Scotty, using the ropes for leverage.

Finally, Vickie Guerrero told her friend Kristal that the “little thing that needed to be taken care of, I took care of earlier tonight.” What do Vickie’s words mean for SmackDown?
