Better be an HBK hater. Who knows what'll happen at WM23? Hell, they might have a 5 or 6-man gauntlet-style match just to satisfy all who're involved.
Whoever wins it better not be Cena, because he's held that title too long. I'm thinking a Triple Threat match, with Michaels, Taker, and Cena. Probably Taker will win because I don't think it's going to kill Taker's winning streak. If that does happen, I will stop watching WWE altogether.

The "secret" Friday premiere of WSX on MTV drew a 0.43 rating, more than four times the usual 0.10 rating for that timeslot on Friday nights. The average rating for MTV that day was 0.40, so it beat even the earlier prime time numbers.

The official premiere of the WSX program is tonight at 10:30 pm EST.

Kip James rips on X Division, says he'd leave TNA for WWE in a heartbeat

PWTorch.com (link to article)

Kip James commented on John Cena using the Fame-Asser on the Rumble PPV. Kip said Cena steals a lot of stuff, but it is okay since Cena "is limited."

Most of the VKM material is from B.G. James and Kip themselves. Vince Russo, who is writing at TNA basically lets VKM do their own thing without getting too involved.

The hosts reminded Kip that their airwaves are Internet-only (every Sunday night live at 11 p.m. EST. on Showdown.net) and he was free to curse. This was when Kip seemed to really get comfortable.

Kip made some bold statements. Kip said "When you've seen one X Division match you have seen them all."

Kip says he is a huge General Hospital fan and that [WWE] wrestling has gotten away from the cliffhangers that make people want to watch week to week. The hosts take WWE's side and say TNA drags their angles out too long. Kip says TNA has a much smaller fan base so it takes longer for the mass of fans to grasp the storyline. Because of this, it is important for TNA not to move their angles as fast as WWE.

Kip says Vince McMahon's ego will not allow himself to comment on VKM on WWE TV. Kip says Vince probably "loves" the angle since it was Vince's own original ideas being reversed on him.

Kip puts over LAX.

Kip says TNA gives the fans too much in one hour and they are not leaving the fans wanting more the following week.

Kip says TNA is wasting Bobby Roode. Kip says Roode is going to be a HUGE star and it WON'T be from TNA because "they don't know how" [to push a guy]. Kip jokes that he is probably going to get fired tomorrow at the TNA tapings for what he says in this interview. (Note to TNA officials: Kip's attitude towards TNA was much more friendly than how Kid Kash was in that "other interview" I recapped two years ago that seemed to cause a lot of trouble in your office.)

Kip says he has heat with Rico (former WWE wrestler).

Kip says he would "leave TNA in a heartbeat" if WWE offers him enough money. Kip says he actually left WWE on good terms and was just victim of WWE wanting to refresh the locker room. Kip said he was in WWE for 13 years.

Kip said he won a lot of things in WWE, but it didn't mean sh--. Kip talks about his feud with The Rock and jokes about being mad at him because he didn't get his copy of "Gridiron Games" in the mail yet.

Kip says women have no place in the wrestling ring. Kip said Miss Texas and Luna are the only two that could wrestle like guys. Kip said he didn't like Lita after the hosts put her over. Kip says adding the "ugly ass" girls of TNA to a new women's division would be a big waste of TNA's already limited time.

Kip says the addition of Kurt Angle to TNA is a good thing for TNA. The hosts mention the upcoming "all WWE main event" of the TNA PPV and Kip said he really doesn't want to see it and that he will probably drive home before the match even starts. Kip said he doesn't even remember when the next TNA PPV is taking place.

Kip talked about an encounter earlier that day with the local cheerleaders from the Arena Football League and a funny road story about an auto accident involving him and B.G. James that Ken Shamrock and Vince McMahon got involved in. The interview ended and Kip jetted out of the studio for his flight to Florida for the TNA tapings the next day.

I missed the last 10 minutes of RAW last night. So we have new tag champions, huh? Not too happy about that. I mean Team RKO actually started to grow on me. Hope they get the tag belts back soon.

Kind of surprised that the Great Kali didn't finish Jeff Hardy to obtain the IC title. He could have easily won the match if he didn't let Hardy count himself out.

I agree also that Cena has had the belt a little too long. I know he lost it a couple of months ago but was given it right back. It's time to lay down for someone John.

Finally, the girl that Vince brought into the ring for fan appreciation night was mighty fine. I'm sure she was paid for the segment. I'll probably try to find the clip on youtube.

McMahon Blows Up Backstage, ECW's Future In Jeopardy

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Vince McMahon was furious at the 1/16 ECW tapings and went nuts backstage after it was all over. He hated the show and was screaming that there wasn’t one guy in ECW who knew how to work.

McMahon was particularly upset with the main event and how bad it made Lashley look.

Vince is said to be mad all the time since that taping. Stephanie, Vince and Dave Lagana had a meeting about the future of ECW with Vince strongly hinting that ECW was on it’s last legs.

Taker comes out on ecw....for what??

Dead ringer
By Craig Tello
January 30, 2007

On the first extreme stop of the Road to WrestleMania, ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley was victorious over Test for the third time in two weeks, but the champion’s celebration was curtailed by the menacing gong that signaled the grim appearance of The Phenom.

Moments after Lashley exploded through Test, Undertaker arrived and buried the Impact Player’s bruised body into the ECW mat with a chokeslam. The 2007 Royal Rumble winner then stood eye-to-eye with ECW’s fighting champion, who stood unwavering in the haunting face of the Deadman. (WATCH)

The final image ECW fans were left with on Tuesday night was Lashley peering deep into the ominous eyes of the individual who might be the next challenger for his ECW World Title. Monday night on Raw, Undertaker appeared to have possibly targeted WWE Champion John Cena as his opponent at WrestleMania 23. Could Undertaker have the intentions of facing Lashley for ECW gold on April 1? Or could it even be SmackDown’s own World Heavyweight Champion Batista?

If the live sold-out crowd in Houston couldn’t appreciate the unexpected arrival of The Phenom, they may have enjoyed Mr. McMahon’s heralded first-ever appearance on ECW on Sci Fi. The WWE Chairman made his way to the Land of the Extreme to continue his brand of fan appreciation, but he certainly didn’t seem to appreciate the backbone of ECW: its Originals. In fact, he said they – and anything having to do with the original ECW – “suck.”

As he prepared to make a few changes in ECW, Mr. McMahon’s disparaging interaction with Sandman, Sabu and others didn’t seem to leave a delightful taste in the mouth of the Extremists. Later, when the Chairman exposed ECW fans to the man he called “the future of ECW” – Elijah Burke – a slighted throng of Originals took extreme exception.

After Burke and McMahon posed for a photo opportunity, Tommy Dreamer, Sabu, Balls Mahoney and Sandman all swarmed the ring and leveled the McMahon-endorsed, brash Burke. Though it was arguably the biggest night in Burke’s young career thus far, ultimately, Burke learned a very valuable (and painful) lesson in the roots of ECW. (WATCH)

Also, coming off an arduous fight in the 30-man Royal Rumble Match, Rob Van Dam collided with Hardcore Holly. The Alabaman Extremist endured every kick RVD could muster and after slamming Van Dam shoulder first into the steel ring post, Holly executed the Alabama Slam for the victory – just as he did weeks ago against CM Punk.

Speaking of the straightedge Extremist, Punk suffered the ill fate of injustice on ECW on Sci Fi as Matt Striker used the ring ropes to earn a tainted victory over Punk.

Finally, the Sexiest Women on TV heated things up on Tuesday night as ECW Die Hards were teased by the hot steps of Kelly Kelly, Layla and Brooke: Extreme Exposé.

Want to see all the action of ECW on Sci Fi? Check back with ECW.com's Hardcore Hangover throughout the week for all these matches and more.

Matches

* Matt Striker def. CM Punk
* Hardcore Holly def. Rob Van Dam
* ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley def. Test

Maury V. and Carlito? Now that's COOL!

Yesterday, Carlito came by my hometown and I had the opportunity to be able to talk to him. He didn't say much because he was VERY tired that day. I thanked him for all that he does for us and I think he appriciated it (couldn't tell cause he was damn near dead).

my prediction: since being stripped of their tag team title orton and edge are going to try and get it back, but how. since he wants a title of his own shawn michaels is gonna want to fight for a spot at srestlemania. mr. kennedy is in that boat too, as is test, and uimaga. so i think vince is gonna run a gauntlet match. tables, chairs, ladders, and a briefcase above the ring and inside the case a ticket to wrestlemania... and the hardcore title!

Finally watched RAW and thought it was a decent show. The ending was well done when Cena and HBK won the tag team titles, HBK was trying to sneak behind Cena and superkick him. Too many times you see the two smiling and hugging one another but the storyline outcome made sense for a change. Also like how the wedge is being put in between Edge and Orton.

Now, here's an idea. RAW has a excellent chance of pushing their tag team division. The last pair of title holders were wrestlers forced together. During the night when Edge was confiding with Cade and Murdock, he said that he and Orton were an unbeatable pair, much to the dismay of the two. Now if Edge and Orton use their rematch clause and win the tag team titles back and then proclaim themselves the best, this could get the other tag teams gunning after them big time, thus setting up tag team competition, something that's been sorely missed in WWE and TNA both.

you know see that's the thing. when they work properly together edge and orton make an incredible duo. they have a ton of skill and talent and when they're working as they should they're damn good. i mean fuck edge has beaten the snot out of john cena time and again. and orton has three generations of wrestling in his veins. they're very exceptional fighters. and i think if they can quit being pushed as these narcissistic jackasses and alter their personas a tad i think the fans would be able to see that. i think they're great fighters, and have a ton of talent and that's why i like them so much. where shawn michaels has always come off as an opportunistic, dirty fighting, jackass, little guy. whereas his partner tripleH has always seemed to me to be an awesome powerhouse of a fighter with a ton of skill and talent. they were always an unbalanced team. and now that michaels is with cena it'll be just like when he was with hogan. an unbalanced debaccle.

i'd like to see kenny dykstra and chris masters be the self absorbed jackass team on raw, and i'd like to see orton and edge pushed as a bit more well behaved duo. i'd like to see them work together properly again, and take back the title because they make a really good team and when they can apply themselves they can win and win. i'd also like to see teams like cryme tyme get pushed more. they have skill, they have a lot of marketability. but i dunno i can talk and talk all i want about what needs to be done, but it's not up to me to do it.

Chances are that Randy Orton and Edge are going to feud soon. Since DX is no around anymore, there really have no one to feud.

TNA Impact! Results: 2-1-07

PWTorch.com (direct link to results)

TNA Impact on Spike TV
February 1, 2007
Taped January 15 in Orlando, Florida
Report by James Caldwell, Torch columnist

We open with footage from last week with Sting revealing Abyss's secret and being taken to the hospital. Don West then narrated footage from after last week's show where Abyss and James Mitchell tried to attack Sting in the ambulance, but only found his baseball bat.

Tenay and West talked about Joe vs. Styles in tonight's main event.

Jeremy Borash stood outside of Jim Cornette's office where various wrestlers were lined up looking for a word with Cornette. Chris Sabin hobbled over to Borash on a walker while sporting a bath robe and old-man glasses. In his best old man voice, Sabin asked Borash what's with the crazy kids and their Pac-Man and stickers and shiny objects. Borash recognized that Sabin was impersonating Jerry Lynn. Sabin said that when he wrestled, they had a two-sided ring made out of sheepskin and cow testicles. Sabin spit to the floor, then Borash said Lynn lives in the future of wrestling. Sabin was simply awesome there.

1 -- AUSTIN STARR vs. JERRY LYNN vs. SONJAY DUTT vs. ALEX SHELLEY vs. JAY LETHAL. Shelley brought a DVD with him to the ring and handed it to Tenay and West. Sabin hobbled down to the ring on his walker and screamed at the camera. Starr dropped a pendulum elbow to Lethal early on. Lethal then made his comeback before Lynn tagged in and dropped Starr with a dropkick. Dutt then took out Lynn on the floor with a big splash. Shelley spit on Starr and Lynn, then Lethal hit a suicide dive on everyone. Sabin then jumped on the apron wearing Depends from the Oops I Crapped My Pants catalogue. Lynn went for a cradle piledriver on Starr, but Sabin tripped Lynn, Starr fell on top of Lynn, and Starr scored the pin for the win. WINNER: STARR IN 4:00. Good, exciting action for four minutes, but still rushed and too short to mean much to the overall show.

After the match, Sabin and Starr choked out Lynn. Shelley then grabbed a camera and filmed the beating. Starr and Shelley have apparently solved their differences. Senshi then ran into the ring and saved Lynn. Sabin vs. Lynn is the X Division Title match at the next PPV.

Christian Cage, Tomko, and Tomko's goatee were walking backstage. Christian told Tomko that he has to cater to "him". Tomko didn't want to, but Christian convinced Tomko to call "him".

[Commercial Break]

The TV truck rolled footage that Shelley handed to the announcers in the opening segment. They showed LAX walking inside a restaurant. Homicide and Hernandez went into the kitchen and looked for "Nick". Homicide took a plate and smashed it on the floor. Hernandez then choked out a chef. Homicide smashed him with a cookie sheet before Hernandez put the guy's head in an oven. Homicide told Shelley to cut the camera off. That was completely random with no back story or context.

[Q2]

Tenay and West said it's become personal with LAX going after a Team 3D family member. Again, TNA trying to get us to care about a situation where a completely random, unknown person is at the center of a storyline. Tenay and West discussed the Monday night special, then Samoa Joe's music interrupted. He talked about Kurt Angle. Christian Cage then interrupted on the video screen and talked about his consultant. He walked away, then Joe decided that was it for him. Completely pointless segment.

Borash was backstage outside of Cornette's office again. Bob Backlund stood up and quoted the dictionary. Borash plugged TNA's text messaging deal where people can vote for who Christian's consultant is. Borash told viewers to vote for Goldberg, Brock Lesnar, Joe, or None of the above. James Storm and Miss Tennessee interrupted. Miss T. told Gail Kim that she's kicking her ass at the PPV. Eric Young interrupted and asked Storm if anyone heard about his shopping trip last week. Storm told him to brand Miss Brook's ass. Christy Hemme then stormed past VKM into Cornette's office. Kip James went after Christy and B.G. followed in. And nothing sunk in with that segment.

[Commercial Break]

James Mitchell led Abyss on a walking trip around the building. He told Abyss to step up the violence and drive a stake through Sting's heart. Mitchell sent him looking Sting as Leticia stood silent holding the mic.

They recapped Eric Young's predicament with Miss Brooks.

2 -- ROBERT ROODE (w/Miss Brooks) vs. PETEY WILLIAMS (w/Gail Kim). As Petey walked to the ring, the camera focused on Gail, who's obviously more important to the show. Petey hit a huricanrana in the first 20 seconds before missing with a clothesline on the floor. Roode then slammed him into the guardrail and went to work back in the ring. Petey came back with a spin kick into the Russian legsweep. Brooks tried to interfere, but Gail pulled her down and slammed her into the apron. With the referee distracted by the women, James Storm ran into the ring and superkicked Petey. Roode then made the cover for the win. WINNER: ROODE IN 3:00. Match was inconsequential with the post-match happenings...

After the match, Miss Tennessee hit the ring and helped Brooks double team Gail. Roode and Storm double teamed Petey until Eric Young made the save. Tennessee then jumped on Young's back, but he flipped her to the mat and scored with a dropkick. Young grabbed Brooks and threatened to hit her, but Roode pulled Brooks out of the ring. Young then shoved Roode down to defend Brooks's honor. Young extended his arm to Brooks and escorted her away from ringside. Roode screamed in disgust, then he cracked a smile thinking Brooks had worked her charm as the vulnerable damsel in distress to hook Young. Intriguing.

[Q3]

Back in Cornette's office, Christy and Kip were screaming at each other. Cornette told them to calm down. Christy demanded an apology from Kip, who told her that her apology could be found where "x" marks the spot at his crotch. Christy said that's the crap she's talking about. Cornette told Christy that she could get even with Kip by marrying him or wrestling at the PPV. Cornette, being indecisive, said her opponent is To Be Determined. Kip made of Christy as B.G. tried to calm him down.

[Commercial Break]

Ron Killings did a promo for A Few Good Black Men in front of a green screen with a red, white, and blue flag floating in the wind. Killings quoted from his ebonics dictionary.

Tenay and West plugged the April Lockdown PPV in St. Louis.

James Mitchell interrupted and walked out alone. Tenay said it's not normal to see Mitchell without Abyss. Mitchell said Sting played with fire and got burned. He said he couldn't imagine it happening to a more deserving person. Mitchell said Sting caused Abyss to lose his focus and the NWA Title, leading to him opening Pandora's Box about Abyss shooting his father. Mitchell said Abyss is worse off now than when he first met him. He said that Abyss is just another slab of meat that he could replace when he's done with him and find another person to do his bidding. Hm... quite analogous to the mentality of some wrestling promoters. A black box was slowly lowered to the ring behind Mitchell and he unveiled a mini prison cell. Mitchell challenged Sting to a prison yard match against Abyss at the PPV, then Sting's music hit. Standing atop the rafters, Sting was sporting a leather mask over his face. Tenay said it might have been a mask similar to Abyss's. Well, that answers the question of whether he would wear an eye patch to sell being burned last week.

They aired a video package on Christopher Daniels, focusing on Daniels being injured by Samoa Joe last year. He said he hasn't figured out the meaning of winning the X Division title. Daniels said he feels like he's only treading water and completely stagnant. "There has to be more," he said. "There has to be."

Tenay and West quickly plugged Joe vs. Styles in the main event.

[Commercial Break]

[Q4]

Lance Hoyt did a pre-tape promo about A.J. Pierzynski and Dale Torborg. He said he respects their business of baseball, but he won't stand for them stepping over the line and ruining his business. Tenay said it would be Torborg vs. Hoyt at the PPV. They showed Johnny Damon sitting ringside.

Backstage, Borash brought in Brother Devon for a promo. Devon said his partner does most of the talking, but it's his time for him to talk. He said Ray is with his family after LAX attacked Ray's family. Devon said there would be hell to pay next week when Ray comes back. He said it's not about the NWA tag titles anymore; it's about respect. That was a breath of fresh air from Devon, despite them turning this into more of a personal feud than about the belts. Oh, that's right, they're just props anyways.

3 -- A.J. STYLES vs. SAMOA JOE. Tenay called this a PPV-worthy match. Styles hopped around the ring to avoid a lock up early on. He did a shuffle before Joe dropped him with a hard right hand. Joe followed with a standing enziguri, clearing Styles to the floor. Back in the ring, Styles used the referee to distract Joe. He then went on the offensive for a few minutes. Joe turned a leap frog into a quick slam, followed by a power slam off the ropes. Joe then tossed Styles to the floor and Styles grabbed his left knee in pain. Rhino came to ringside and attacked Styles from behind. The referee initially didn't call for a DQ, but Rhino attacked Styles in the ring and the ref threw the match out. So much for being a PPV-worthy match. WINNER: NO DECISION in 3:00. The first match between Joe and Styles after their amazing series in 2005 should have meant so much more than a three-minute throwaway match. A wasted opportunity.

Samoa Joe grabbed a chair and sat down in the ring. He said he wasn't going anywhere until Christian Cage came to the ring. They cut backstage where Angle walked past Silent Leticia on the way to the ring.

[Commercial Break]

Joe was still sitting in the chair with Kurt Angle standing over his shoulder. Angle asked Joe why they don't finish their business at the PPV. He called him a bold-faced liar and Joe stood up. He landed a series of right hand blows. Christian then came into the ring with a chair and aimed for Joe, but Joe ducked and Angle took the chair to the face. Christian smiled and went for a handshake, but Joe flipped him the double bird and landed a right hand blow to a big cheer. Styles then held Joe's feet from the outside allowing Christian to make a comeback. Christian slammed a chair over Joe's back, then he gave him the Unprettier. Christian took Angle's ring jacket and choked him. Styles and Christian shook hands as they closed the show without enough time to let things sink in. That said, Styles and Christian needed a credibility boost standing tall at the end of the show.

Tomorrow and Sunday, the WWE Superstars will be in town (Tempe, AZ at Arizona Mills Mall) promoting Wrestlemania. I transfer buses at that mall on the way home from work and may pay it a visit :)

WWE Smackdown Results: 2-2-07

Chairman's Bombshell
By Lennie Difino
February 2, 2007

The fallout from the Royal Rumble continued on SmackDown as its Superstars embarked on the Road to WrestleMania. Only one question remained: Who will Undertaker face at WrestleMania 23?

The action was live from the sold-out Toyota Center in Houston. This was the third WWE show in the state of Texas this week, all three sellout crowds of WWE fans. Several celebrities were in attendance, including Tracy McGrady of the NBA’s Houston Rockets, DeMeco Ryans of the NFL’s Houston Texans, and rock ‘n’ roll legend Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top.

World Heavyweight Champion Batista demanded an answer from the Deadman about his intentions for WrestleMania 23, welcoming the challenge.

“The World Heavyweight Championship up against the [Undertaker’s] 14-0 undefeated streak. It doesn’t get any bigger than that.”

Just when fans believed Undertaker would appear, WWE Champion John Cena came out and demanded an answer — an answer he believes he rightfully deserves.

Batista and Cena stood side-by-side, both with their gold over their shoulders as the Phenom made his way out. Undertaker stared them both down, seemingly ready to make a choice — until Shawn Michaels interrupted.

“You two aren’t the only ones who want an answer,” HBK said. “Undertaker, put your title match on the line against me.”

Although all four men had questions for each other, only one man ultimately decides the fate of Superstars: Mr. McMahon. The Chairman made his way to Texas having answers.

“I don’t give a damn what any of you want,” said The Chairman. “On Feb. 18 there will be no way out for you four men.”

Mr. McMahon then announced a blockbuster match involving all four men. In less than three weeks at WWE’s No Way Out on pay-per-view, WWE Champion John Cena and his tag team partner, fellow World Tag Team Champion Shawn Michaels, will face World Heavyweight Champion Batista and Undertaker.

In other action, a focused Mr. Kennedy defeated Vito, and unleashed an assault on the dress-wearing Superstar. After leaving Vito unconscious, Kennedy sought out General Manager Theodore Long.

“I should be the World Heavyweight Champion,” Kennedy explained to Long.

After listening to Kennedy’s gripes, the General Manager decided that next week on SmackDown, it will be Mr. Kennedy taking on Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship.

United States Champion Chris Benoit retained his gold when he pinned Finlay. This tough, physical match was interrupted when Little Bastard attempted to emerge from under the ring.

After numerous tries by Little Bastard to emerge, Boogeyman was revealed to be below the ring, preventing him from going anywhere. This caused Finlay to lose the focus he had on Benoit’s knee. The Rabid Wolverine capitalized and retained his United States Championship.

King Booker returned to his hometown of Houston and was greeted with a ceremony giving him the key to the city, from the Ancient Order of Royal Houstonians. The coronation quickly turned sour when Kane arrived and cleared the ring. Kane was still seething about the Royal Rumble, when he eliminated King Booker, only to have Booker re-enter the ring and eliminate him. Booker ran off and the Big Red Monster stood tall.

In just their third week of action, the new additions to SmackDown’s roster, Deuce and Domino were able to win a non-title match against the WWE Tag Team Champions, Paul London and Brian Kendrick. Deuce and Domino have been dominant since debuting, and they continued to make a name for themselves at the expense of the champions.

The Miz defeated Matt Hardy when Joey Mercury interfered and nailed Hardy with his protective faceguard. Matt Hardy claimed to be finished with Mercury after the Royal Rumble, but Mercury is still hell-bent on revenge.

SmackDown Diva Ashley was declared by WWE fans to be the winner of the Diva Bikini Contest. Jillian refused to participate, deciding to sing to the crowd, much to the disgust of Ashley, Kristal and anyone within an earshot. After winning the approval of the crowd, Ashley stripped Jillian down to her bra and panties, giving WWE fans something they really wanted.

Finally, Vickie Guerrero told Kristal, “I will be returning to SmackDown soon.”

Matches
United States Champion Chris Benoit def. Finlay
Deuce and Domino def. WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London and Brian Kendrick
Mr. Kenney def. Vito
Miz def. Matt Hardy

WSX reports 4 million viewers watched the premiere show. That number includes the original and 4 repeat broadcasts.

In the fast national ratings, Smackdown on the CW from last night averaged a 3.1 overall rating, which is the highest overall rating since Smackdown moved to the CW in fall '06. The show averaged a 2.9 first hour and 3.3 second hour, but finished behind FOX for last place on the night.

- The Undertaker will be in the opening segment of Raw this Monday to make a decision on his WrestleMania opponent, reports WWE.com.
