Bam Bam Bigelow Passes Away

From WWE.Com

WWE.com has learned that former WWE Superstar Scott "Bam Bam" Bigelow has passed away in Florida.

Kevin Doll, the Public Information Director for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Bigelow was found dead early this morning in his home in Hudson, Fla.

"We can confirm that Scott Bigelow was found in his home this morning. At this time the cause of death is unknown," Doll told WWE.com.

Doll also confirmed that the Pasco-Pinellas Counties medical examiner has taken the body and an autopsy will be performed.

Bigelow, 45, worked for WWE, ECW and WCW extensively throughout his 20-year sports-entertainment career. A former ECW Champion, ECW Television Champion and WCW Tag Team Champion, he is perhaps best known for his rivalry with Lawrence Taylor that culminated in the main event of WrestleMania XI in 1995.

TNA Impact! Results: 1-18-07

Source: PWTorch.com (direct link)

TNA Impact on Spike TV
January 18, 2007
Taped January 15 in Orlando, Florida
Report by James Caldwell, Torch columnist

We go right to footage from 8:42 p.m. of Sting "out of character" beating the crap out of James Mitchell outside of the building. Tenay said Steve Borden is taking Mitchell somewhere. They showed him throwing Mitchell in the back of a car.

They showed footage from the PPV of the X Division Title match, Ray manhandling Homicide, the first part of B.G.'s promo without Christy, Joe-Angle III, and Christian winning the NWA Title.

Tenay and West broke down the card before handing it off to Jeremy Borash backstage. Team 3D interrupted. Brother Devon threw Brother Runt into a wall, then Ray said they've been screwed by so many guys, but never by their own family. Ray told runt to stay out of their business against LAX in a re-match. Devon threw Runt into a futon chair and told him not to move.

1 -- LAX (HOMICIDE & HERNANDEZ) vs. TEAM 3D (BROTHER RAY & BOTHER DEVON) -- NWA Tag Title match.

Team 3D stormed the ring and attacked LAX from behind. Devon threw Homicide into a guardrail, then they fought back into the ring to officially start the match. Devon no-sold a series of chops as Brother Runt came to ringside. Devon gave Homicide a reverse suplex, then Runt got on the apron. Ray grabbed him and dragged him to the back as Homicide hit a frog splash on Devon for a nearfall. West thought it was the finish and said Runt cost them the match again. Ray re-emerged as Homicide choked Devon in the LAX corner. The fans chanted "187" for Homicide as Hernandez scored a nearfall on Devon. Tenay said LAX was fortunate to leave the PPV with the tag titles because they didn't have Konnan. That statement is a perfect example of how stupid TNA's booking of LAX is. Ray took a hot tag and completely no-sold a huracanrana from Homicide before knocking him down with a clothesline. Team 3D set up for Devon's diving headbutt, but Moody Jack came to ringside and distracted them. He then handed Konnan's flapjack to Hernandez, who dropped Ray with a shot to the head. Ray tipped over like a tree in the forrest and Hernandez made the cover for the win.

WINNERS: LAX IN 4:00 TO RETAIN THE NWA TAG TITLES. Another bogus match between these two teams. LAX has no chance of being taken seriously as threatening heels when TNA castrates them every time they're on TV by flat out saying LAX can't win a match without help.

Borash was shown backstage. He found Abyss throwing objects into a wall.

[Commercial Break]

Gail Kim slapped Jacqueline in the women's restroom, leading to an all-out fight in the stall. Tenay said Jacqueline is being called Miss Tennessee. Security jumped into the restroom and separated them.

[Q2]

Don West talked about women becoming involved on the PPV. He spoke quietly about Christy Hemme confronting VKM, then they cut to clips of her promo. They cut to Borash for a sit-down interview with Christy. She cried about not being able to get ahead in "another company" because she wouldn't compromise or lay down for anyone. Kip James interrupted with a to-go box of food. He told Christy that before you can climb the ladder of success, you have go down. He did a crotch chop, then "accidentally" spilled his food on Christy's top. She slapped his knee after screaming at him, then B.G. James interrupted and told Kip to chill out.

Christian Cage walked out with the NWA Title and without Tomko. Christian was wearing a nice suit, but with some sort of hood hanging over the back of his shoulders. Christian talked about Kurt Angle before calling him the biggest asshole he's ever met. Angle pressed the button backstage for his music and stormed to the ring. Angle told Christian to shine up the NWA Title belt because it's coming right home to his mantle over the fireplace. He spit in Christian's face, then Christian said he knows how to channel his emotions unlike Angle. Christian said he has to get inside Angle's head to see what makes him tick if he's going to beat him. He said he found someone that wrestles like Angle and can't stand him. Christian said he won't reveal who his consultant is, but he'll drop a few hints. Angle asked if it was Goldberg or Brock Lesnar. The fans booed, then they chanted "R-V-D". Angle spoke over the chants, then gave Christian an overhead suplex. He went for the anklelock, but Christian escaped and bailed to the outside.

They instantly cut to video of Borden throwing Mitchell into a fence somewhere where it was cold.

[Commercial Break]

They aired a video package on Christian Cage to promote the February PPV. The voice-over man called Christian one of the most dominant wrestlers of this decade.

They cut back to Borden throwing Mitchell into a fence next to the prison where Abyss was. He wanted to know what Abyss is hiding. Mitchell said his name is Chris Marks, then asked why Sting cares about Abyss. Mitchell called Abyss a piece of s--- and said he's nothing without him. Mitchell said Abyss means nothing to him and he's his meal ticket that he's used for eighteen months. Borden told Mitchell that he doesn't see a piece of garbage, but he sees a human. Mitchell whispered as Borden continued to choke him out. Sting left after saying he was going to find Abyss back at the arena and get answers. They cut to ringside where Tenay and West talked about the puzzle pieces.

They cut to a PCS video package. Alex Shelley talked up Kevin Nash, then he handed Borash his card. Nash said it's time for the PCS wrestlers to go on their own way. Jay Lethal said Nash has been stringing them along the whole time, but Nash changed the subject and said they needed an extreme makeover. Austin Starr then jumped Senshi and threw him into a wall. They brawled on the ground as Nash just watched before PCS wrestlers separated them.

The voice-over man asked us whether the "estrogen war would continue" between Gail and Miss Tennessee after the break. That's classic.

[Q3]

[Commercial Break]

Kurt Angle was in Jim Cornette's office for his weekly counseling session with Cornete. Angle grabbed Cornette by the tie and told him to figure out what Christian is talking about with a consultant. Cornette told Angle to get a grip on himself and get ready for A.J. Styles, not buy into Christian's mind games.

2 -- LANCE HOYT vs. JAMES STORM (w/Miss Tennessee). They showed A.J. Pierzynski and Dale Torborg ringside mocking Hoyt. Storm grabbed a sign supporting Chris Harris from the same planted fan who Jeff Jarrett shoved a few months ago. Hoyt ran over Storm early on with a hard clothesline. He went to the corner for a moonsault, but Miss T. distracted him. That allowed Storm to hit a reverse DDT off the top rope. Hoyt made a comeback, but Torborg got on the apron and distracted Hoyt. A.J. then hit Hoyt in the back with a chair. Storm hit a superkick on Hoyt to make the cover for the win. WINNER: STORM IN 3:00.

Afterward, Gail Kim came to ringside. Storm chucked her into the ring, then gave her a swinging front slam. Ringside, A.J. autographed Hoyt's head after Torborg beat him down. Petey Williams ran into the ring to help Gail, but Storm gave him a superkick.

Borash was backstage again, this time outside of A.J. Styles's locker room. Eric Young interrupted. Young said his friend is off the pill, but they need to do some shopping for condos in time for next week. Borash corrected him that it's a condom. Young said whatever works. Styles stepped in and told Young to leave. He talked about Kurt Angle, and said he's been handed everything on a silver platter without having done anything. Borash whispered that he won a gold medal. Styles said, "Whooptido! I won a blue ribbon." Styles said he was all-county in the triple jump, but you don't hear him bragging. Styles said he doesn't care whether people love him or hate him, he's still phenomenal.

[Commercial Break]

They showed ootage from Moments Ago when Borden arrived back in the Impact zone. A camera crew and Leticia followed him out of the parking lot.

[Q4]

3 -- A.J. STYLES vs. KURT ANGLE. This first-encounter could have been saved for a PPV main event, but at least they gave the match the most pre-match build of any Impact main event in months to make it seem special for if they have a PPV re-match down the road. Styles dove at Angle early on, then Angle paint brushed the back of Styles's head. Styles sneered at Angle then walked into a knock down clothesline. Angle dropped Styles with an overhead suplex, then goat boy Tomko walked to ringside. Angle screamed at Tomko, then Styles kicked the ring ropes from behind to crotch Angle.

[Commercial Break]

Styles was in control out of the break. They showed Tomko with his feet propped up on the apron watching the action. Angle came back with right hand blows, but Styles dropped him with a quick kick to the head for a nearfall. Styles followed with a springboard fist smash for another nearfall. Tomko complained to the referee about the speed of his count, then Styles grabbed a steel chair. Angle ducked a chair shot, then hit an Olympic Slam on the chair for the pin and the win. WINNER: ANGLE IN 9:00. Not a good taste of what could be with Styles and Angle. Too short of a match.

Afterward, Christian came to ringside and attacked Angle. This led to a three-on-one beating. Rhino then hit the ring and nailed Styles. They fought to ringside. Samoa Joe then ran into the ring with a chair and cleared Christian and Tomko. Angle moved to his feet and stared down Joe. Christian then told Angle to get a clue. Security ran into the ring as Tenay speculated that Joe was Christian's advisor.

They aired a video wrap-up, then Steve Borden was magically in the ring with everyone cleared out. He called out Abyss, who came to the ring. Borden suggested that Abyss start talking. Borden said that if Abyss doesn't stand for something, he would fall for anything, then he handed Abyss the mic. Abyss moved the mic to his lips, but then quickly handed it back to Borden. Borden poked him in the stomach with his bat. He said he's trying to help him, but Abyss cowered to the corner. Borden said it's public record, so he would find out what happened for himself. The fans chanted, "Sting's a bully" as Borden left and Abyss screamed from his knees in the ring. TNA is doing a fine job of turning Sting heel and drawing sympathy to Abyss.

Both Tatanka & Mike Knox might also be going!
There have been several reports that WWE put up a notice on WWE.com saying they had been released, only for it to be taken down a short time later!
No confirmation on this though!

EDIT: Tatanka's release is now official.

Threat averted
By Lennie DiFino
January 19, 2007

At the Royal Rumble in just under two weeks, Mr. Kennedy will have his first opportunity at a world title when he faces Batista one-on-one for the World Heavyweight Championship.

If Mr. Kennedy is truly the young stud of SmackDown, the cocky loudmouth has a serious case of hoof-in-mouth.

Kennedy arrived to the ring bragging about his victory in the Beat the Clock Sprint and his match with Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble. The match will be Kennedy’s first opportunity at a World Championship. “It is my time,” Kennedy said. “I screwed Undertaker because I was protecting my best interests.”

General Manager Theodore Long entered the arena and agreed with Kennedy, saying, “You did beat the clock, but under controversial circumstances,” Long continued. “Tonight, you’ll have to protect more than that, as you will face [the man you screwed] Undertaker.”

Long also made the stipulation that if Kennedy defeated Undertaker, he would face Batista one-on-one at the Royal Rumble, and if Undertaker won, the World Heavyweight Championship would be contested under Triple Threat rules.

As Batista sat ringside for commentary, Kennedy saw an opening, and hit the World Heavyweight Champion with a cheap shot, angering The Animal. As Undertaker looked to add himself to one of the Royal Rumble main events, Batista entered the ring and speared Kennedy, disqualifying Undertaker in the process. Much to the disgust of The Phenom, at the Royal Rumble, it will be Mr. Kennedy facing Batista one-on-one for the World Heavyweight Championship,.

United States Champion Chris Benoit and Chavo Guerrero battled over the U.S. title, this time in a No Disqualification Match.

Benoit picked up the victory and retained his title when Chavo tapped out to the Sharpshooter. However, Chavo’s business manager Vickie Guerrero was nowhere to be found. Is there trouble in the Guerrero family?

Matt Hardy defeated Joey Mercury, but paid a heavy price for his victory.

For the past few weeks Mercury has told WWE fans about his anger towards Hardy. “Matt Hardy ruined my Hollywood good looks and destroyed my livelihood.” This all stems from the brutal injury Mercury says the Hardys caused at Armageddon in a Ladder Match for the WWE Tag team Championship. Hardy has maintained his innocence, saying, “ladders are legal weapons.”

Johnny Nitro attacked Hardy after the match and helped his friend Joey Mercury deliver the Snap Shot to the exposed concrete floor leaving him unconscious at the hands of MNM. Is Joey Mercury done with his personal vengeance toward Matt Hardy? Mercury has said, “I’m not going to stop until Matt Hardy’s face looks like mine.” Will Mercury live up to his words?

WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London and Brian Kendrick teamed with Vito in six-man tag action as they took on William Regal, Dave Taylor, and MVP.
It looked as if Kendrick and London would lead the team to victory, but as Kendrick came off the top rope, he was caught in mid-air by MVP, who then delivered the pinfall and victory for Regal, Taylor, and himself.

King Booker told General Manager Theodore Long that although he, “never received a one-on-one rematch for [my] World Heavyweight Championship, I will reclaim my gold by winning the Royal Rumble and going to WrestleMania 23.”

Long wished King Booker well, and announced a warm-up for the Royal Rumble, as next week on Friday Night SmackDown, it will be a Six-Man Over-the-Top Challenge featuring King Booker, Finlay, Miz, MVP, Benoit and Kane.

Miz boasted to SmackDown Divas Ashley and Layla, “last week I took Undertaker to the limit - and tonight, I’ll beat Kane.” However, the terrified Superstar was defeated by the Big Red Monster after receiving the Chokeslam.

In recent weeks, Maryse has made appearances on SmackDown, and the bombshell beauty once again made her presence known. Maryse has all SmackDown fans, and even JBL himself, taking lessons in her native French tongue.

Finally, Deuce and Domino debuted on Friday Night SmackDown, introducing themselves to WWE fans. Accompanied by the roller-skating, poodle skirt wearing Cherry, the duo looks to make a splash in the tag team division. Deuce is Cherry’s boyfriend, while Domino is Cherry’s older brother. Are there ‘Happy Days’ ahead for Deuce, Domino, and Cherry?

WWE RAW Results: 1-22-07

The show WILL go on
By Noah Starr
January 22, 2007

The Royal Rumble is less than a week away, but WWE fans in Lafayette, La., as well as those watching around the world, were treated to an early preview on Raw. Fresh off last week’s victory over Rated-RKO, an overtly emotional Shawn Michaels kicked off Raw with a clear message for WWE fans. Not only did Michaels claim that he will once again be the WWE Champion, but went on to state that “the Heart Break Kid, the Showstopper is back! No mere mortal man will stop me from fulfilling my destiny.”

Just then, Edge, a man who thinks of himself as anything but mortal, entered the arena. After the Rated-R Superstar’s interruption, the two brawled around the ring, into the crowd and even into the locker room area where security was finally able to tear them apart.

Mr. McMahon announced the main event of the night: a Street Fight pitting Michaels against Edge. With no disqualifications, Michaels lived up to his words from earlier in the night. Letting his emotions run wild, HBK used a belt, steel trash can, ladder, steel chair, chain and sheer brutality to bloody the Rated-R Superstar. Just as HBK was about to deliver a Con-chair-to, Randy Orton dove into the ring to aid his tag team partner and deliver an RKO to Michaels. After Edge picked up the three count, Orton surprised everyone and tossed his partner out of the ring proving that the Royal Rumble Match will be every man for himself. In the blink of an eye, Ric Flair entered the ring to deliver a series of low blows to Orton; Kenny Dykstra and Carlito soon blasted into the ring to join the chaos, but as Raw went off the air, somehow it was HBK standing tall.

Also on Raw, WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon read a letter he wrote to Donald Trump, offering to boost ratings by appearing on The Apprentice. Next, the always surprising Chairman promised a token of his appreciation for WWE fans next week on Raw. Just then, in walked The Champ. John Cena insulted the Chairman’s “manhood” and then went so far as to say that Donald Trump had more money. After Jonathan Coachman butted in, Mr. McMahon declared a match between Cena and his own Executive Assistant, Coachman.

After Mr. McMahon left the building, Coachman took the easy way out by forcing Cena to compete in an impromptu Over-the-Top-Rope Challenge. After taking on mighty challengers including Viscera and The World’s Greatest Tag Team, Cena was eliminated by The Great Khali. Next, Coachman attempted to pin Cena who mustered all his strength to kick out. With help from Armando Estrada and Coachman, Cena was splashed through a table by the number one contender for the WWE Championship, Umaga.

As doctors and trainers tried to help the badly injured Cena out of the ring, WWE fans must have been wondering if Cena would be able to compete in the Last Man Standing match against Umaga at the Royal Rumble. Later in the night, WWE Mobile Alerts released the following statement: “John Cena has refused admittance to a medical facility after being driven thru a table by Umaga on Raw. Doctors were concerned that he suffered a ruptured spleen.” Will Cena be able to defend his title in the Last Man Standing Match at the Royal Rumble?

In other Raw action, Jeff Hardy faced off against Joey Mercury, who still wears a protective face mask he has needed since Jeff’s brother Matt sent a ladder into his face at Armageddon. Even with interference by the rest of MNM, Hardy was able to pin Mercury and win the special Raw vs. SmackDown Challenge. What kind of action will erupt when the Hardys meet MNM in the ring live at the Royal Rumble?

Chris Masters faced a man who calls himself both super and crazy, the aptly named Super Crazy. Last week on Raw, the high-flying Luchador interfered in Ron Simmons’ attempt to break the Master Lock. In a surprising turn of events, Super Crazy scaled the ropes to flip over and pin Masters, even while entangled in the powerful Master Lock.

Candice Michelle teamed with Women’s Champion Mickie James to defeat Victoria and Melina. The victory was sweet for Candice as she pinned Victoria to exact revenge against the woman who broke her nose.

Plus, Kenny Dykstra told Maria that he would be the youngest Superstar to win the Royal Rumble and go on to headline WrestleMania. Dykstra went on to defeat Carlito, and seems to be able to put his money where his mouth is. Will Dykstra live up to his own hype and become the youngest Superstar to win the Royal Rumble?

Matches
Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy def. Joey Mercury
Super Crazy def. Chris Masters
The Great Khali def. WWE Champion John Cena, Viscera, The World's Greatest Tag Team and Cade & Murdoch (Over-the-Top-Rope Challenge)
WWE Champion John Cena vs. Jonathan Coachman (No Contest)
Candice Michelle & Women's Champion Mickie James def. Melina & Victoria
Kenny Dykstra def. Carlito
Edge def. Shawn Michaels (Street Fight)

Chances are that Shawn Michaels is going to win the Royal Rumble because he's getting pushed the most.

Its very much possible. There are a couple of scenarios I see for the result of the Royal Rumble.

1. The Undertaker wins for the Smackdown side which then sets up the inevitable Taker vs. Batista main event, where Taker then continues his undefeated streak at WM....or Taker loses (which I dont see happening) and then retires.

2. Michaels wins for the Raw side which would then set up Michaels vs. Cena main event, b/c Cena; hurt or not will NOT drop the belt to somebody like Umaga....I dont think Vince would put the belt on him. Which is one of the reasons its hard to be entertained right now, simply b/c there doesnt seem to be anyone who is a real THREAT to the title other than the heavy hitters who are all elsewhere. But back of topic....Michaels wins the Rumble, goes on to WM to face Cena, beats Cena, carries the belt for a little while, HHH comes back from injury as a "supposed" super-face, wanting to re-kindle DX once again, then does his normal swerve and goes after the title. Or Cena retains the title against Michaels and the HHH angle still happens.

3. Chris Jericho returns at the Rumble, proceeds to win and then the big debacle over which brand he will return to ensues.

Those are just MY theories given the current state of the company.

michaels claimed no mortal can beat him for the title. i see this going somewhere. i see michaels getting the title. and then i see hulk hogan coming out of nowhere, destroying michaels in the ring, and giving the title back to cena. i missed raw last night. but any night when randy orton delivers an RKO to shawn michaels is a good night (damn work) i can almost guarantee though, that cena will lose the title to michaels, and someone who is truly hardcore as fuck will come out and take it from him. i dunno, bret hart and mcmahon are good friends, and he's fully recovered from the stroke. hart wants to wrestle kurt anglei could see him being called up to kick the shit out of shawn and a new rivalry between them sparked.

SummerSlam main event perhaps? Could even turn out to be a triple threat with Michaels-Cena-HHH.

I don't see the 1st thing happening, because I don't think that the Undertaker needs another title for his career. Undertaker has done enough for him to a be legend in wrestling. Now, Undertaker is now helping to create younger superstars such as Kennedy and MVP. But, the 2nd one could happen.

How I think it should go down:

Umaga wins the title against Cena at Royal Rumble. Cena takes about 6 month vacation (he's gotten stale and repetitve) to freshen his wrestling and mic skills. Michaels will probably will win Royal Rumble and the world title against Umaga or whomever has the title. After that, Carlito gets a push and turns heel. (Carlito isn't getting shit, and getting stuck with repetitve storylines, and Carlito does better as a heel.) Carlito and Michaels feud, and Michaels will lose the title to Carlito, and later on regain the title. Eventually, Cena comes back as a heel and gets pissed at the crowd for turning against him. Now, Cena will be completely fresh, with fine tuned wrestling skills and changed rapper gimmick, Cena will better than ever. Then, HHH will return from his quad injury, and turn against Michaels. That will eventually buildup into a 4 way elimination match at Summerslam or Survivor Series with Cena, HHH, Carlito, and Michaels.
My 2 cents.

PRO WRESTLER DIES YOUNG!
World News
Jan 19, 2007

This week marked the passing of Scott "Bam Bam" Bigelow, a pro wrestling star who worked for WWE, WCW, and ECW over a 20 year career. He was only 45 years old.

The death has caused many pro wrestling fans to feel that the structure of the business they love might lead to a destructive lifestyle for its performers. Fans all over the country began to gather together under an umbrella organization that they are called "Reform the Pro Wrestling Industry." They vowed on their website to not spend another dime on WWE or TNA programming until they have assurances that wrestlers will be better taken care of.

Until that time, they promised to assemble in protest outside arenas where WWE and TNA run shows.

As one would expect, the mainstream sports and entertainment media piled on the Bigelow story. ESPN Sportscenter did an in-depth story on Bigelow, as did Fox Sports Net, and Sports Illustrated. E! Entertainment News and Variety covered the story as well, shedding light on the shocking loss with in-depth examinations of the pro wrestling industry.

As the leader of the industry, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon volunteered to sit down with the New York Times for a lengthy interview. Whether Mr. McMahon had been shaken up by the fan pressure or the media examination was unclear, but the Mr. McMahon the New York Times interviewed was nothing like the evil boss made famous on WWE TV.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic news," a visibly shaken Vince McMahon shared. "We at WWE are industry leaders. We have a responsibility to our employees - the pro wrestlers who perform for WWE and its fans - to make sure that time spent as a WWE Superstar doesn't compromise that WWE Superstar's long term heath and well being. WWE and its shareholders will take every step necessary to take care of our great talent.

"We announce the following measures effective immediately:

"First, WWE Superstars will no longer be considered 'independent contractors.' They risk their bodies for our company, they sacrifice time away from home, and we appreciate it. They will be WWE employees form this point on.

"Second, no WWE Superstar will be asked to wrestle 52 weeks a year. Every performer will be given a mandatory four weeks off, twice a year. This will allow them to re charge their batteries, and they will be better performers for it in the long run.

"Third, all WWE Superstars will be given health care coverage. We want our performers to be in peak physical condition, and always want them to be safe. We recognize that virtually every other sports or entertainment company with our level of TV ratings, PPV buyrates, live event revenue, merchandising and licensing revue grants some coverage to their performers, and none of them are as physically demanding as WWE.

"Forth, WWE will not discourage our talent from using agents to negotiate their contracts with us. We recognize that virtually every other sports or entertainment company with our level of TV ratings, PPV buyrates, live event revenue, merchandising and licensing revue expect their talent to be represented by agents

"Fifth, we will not discourage our performers form forming a union. We recognize that virtually every other sports or entertainment company with our level of TV ratings, PPV buyrates, live event revenue, and merchandising and licensing revenue have athletes and performers that are represented by unions.

"We challenge the rest of the industry to follow our lead."

One can only imagine the fallout if another loss like this hit pro wrestling, or - god forbid - it became routine.

ECW on Sci-Fi Results: 1-23-07

Premature rumblings
By Craig Tello
January 23, 2007

In what could very well be a preview to Sunday’s ECW World Title Match at the Royal Rumble, Lashley got the best of Test live on ECW on Sci Fi. A fiery ECW World Champion sent a brutal message to the Impact Player just days before their championship encounter at the Rumble.

Following the Impact Player’s ruthless and brain-rattling assault on Lashley with the champion’s own title, Lashley was intent on retaliation. The "Most Ruthless Competitor in ECW" attempted to use the exposed steel beneath the turnbuckle pad, as well as a steel chair to floor the champion. Lashley, however, avoided these tactics and ultimately speared Test down, creasing the ring mat. The ECW World Champion’s relentless barrage continued on the outside where he slung Test’s body into the steel steps, then followed up with a running powerslam in the ring for the pin.

The ECW World Champion demonstrated why he bears the gold on ECW on Sci Fi and if Test has any hopes of seizing the title, the Impact Plater will need to regroup and recalculate before this Sunday.

Another man who needed to recalculate tonight was Hardcore Holly. After having his opportunity to battle Lashley usurped by Test, an unhappy Holly confronted the Impact Player before the main event and the "Alabama Slamma" promised to get what he deserves – the ECW World Title – one way or another.

In preparation for the most star-studded – and extreme – Royal Rumble Match in history, five of the 30 combatants in Sunday’s battle met in an Over-the-Top-Rope Challenge. Mere days before they represent the ECW brand at the Rumble, Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Tommy Dreamer, Sandman and Kevin Thorn all honed their survival skills on Sci Fi.

The high-flier, Sabu, did just that as he flew over the top rope and to the floor, taking Dreamer out with him. After Thorn tossed Sandman, it came down to the vampiric Extremist and RVD – who succeeded in besting Thorn for the victory.

Away from the more grueling face of ECW, the more sultry side of the realm of hardcore came out in the form of Kelly Kelly’s "Extreme Exposé." Flanked by Layla and new Diva Brooke, the blonde bombshell Kelly has corralled some of the Sexiest Women on TV to forge the sexiest dance group ever.

Class was in session on Tuesday night as well as the Extreme Educator instructed his pupils from a unique forum in the commentary booth beside Tazz and Joey Styles. As Striker looked on from ringside, CM Punk had a positive "experience" with Elijah Burke by pinning the brazen Extremist in the middle of the ring.

Elsewhere in the Land of the Extreme, Marcus Cor Von punished his opponent for the second week in a row on ECW on Sci Fi with a charging body tackle and then a lethal submission hold. Before vanquishing his opposition, Cor Von exclaimed that everyone in ECW will learn that they will either step aside or get run over by "The Alpha Male."

Matches
Rob Van Dam def. Kevin Thorn, Sabu, Tommy Dreamer and Sandman in an Over the Top Rope Challenge
CM Punk def. Elijah Burke
ECW World Champion Lashley def. Test

TNA Impact! Results: 1-24-07

TNA Impact on Spike TV
January 24, 2007
Taped January 15 in Orlando, Florida
Report by James Caldwell, Torch columnist

We open with footage from "City Hall". Mike Tenay said Sting found out what Abyss has been hiding for years. After a recap of last week aired, Tenay and West talked about Christian vs. Daniels and Abyss's secret.

Samoa Joe walked to the ring with a towel draped over his shoulder. Man, I miss that blood-stained towel he carried around for months. Joe took the mic and said Kurt Angle has a lot of questions for Joe. He posed the question of why would he help Kurt Angle. Joe said he wouldn't help Angle if he were stuck on the tracks with a train bearing down on him. Tenay and West kept yapping when Joe paused. Joe then said he would be the unofficial ringside enforcer for Christian vs. Angle at the PPV so Angle could beat Christian, then Joe could beat Angle for the World Title. Angle walked out and said he doesn't have a problem with Joe wanting to fight him again, but he has a problem with how Joe is going about it. Angle said Christian has a consultant. He then recapped the entire show last week. Angle said that if Joe wants to train Christian, he doesn't have a problem with that, but if Joe gets within a foot of the ring, he would snap off his ankle. Joe cut him off and said he's not a liar. Joe said he would beat Angle's best friend at Against All Odds and the next time they fight, he would be taking the NWA Title from Angle. Christian Cage's music interrupted. Christian walked out on stage with Tomko. He said Joe isn't his consultant. Christian said Joe isn't good enough to consult him on anything. Joe sneered at Christian. Christian then said he could be a liar and he's so good at lying that he's not sure if he's even telling the truth most of the time. Christian promised a second hint about the person tonight. He warned Angle that the person is closer than he thinks. Please don't tell me Angle's wife is getting involved with this. Suddenly, Joe and Angle were fighting in the ring until security intervened. OK, now we're at over-kill. Tomko then came to ringside and stood over Tenay and West as they broke down tonight's card. Tomko took the mic and said there's going to be some wholesale changes, starting with the announcing.

Jeremy Borash was backstage with James Mitchell and Abyss. Abyss was running around like a chicken with his head cut off, while Mitchell was calm and relaxed. Great dichotomy. Mitchell suggested Sting meet them at the prison yard at Against All Odds. Mitchell said he was going to extend a courtesy of good advice to Sting about Abyss's secret and he said some things are better left buried and dead. He said it wouldn't be pretty to lance away the puss-infected boil that is his secret. Having dealt with a staph infection three months ago, that's not a pleasant memory. Mitchell then said Sting thinks he can hand Abyss a key to Heaven by revealing his secret, but Mitchell said that wouldn't be the case.

[Q2]

TNA cameras found Jim Cornette and Borash having a moment with Serotonin in his office. All four were wearing some ridiculous Mardi Gras masks. Cornette told them to start earning their money and stop promoting an S&M parol. Cornette told Raven to hit the ring and get ready for Rhino.

They cut back to the arena as Rhino ran to the ring for the match. Raven's stooges then ran into the ring and took a quick beating. Raven then slid into the ring and caned Rhino with a stick. Suddenly, "Raven" took off his mask, revealing A.J. Styles. Styles smashed the stick across Rhino's back, then retrieved a chair. He then hit a home run with Rhino's face and opened a cut. Referees came into the ring and told Styles to get lost.

Christian Cage was with Leticia in the TV truck. Someone told Christian they have nine cameras covering the show. He said he needs three and a half more cameras on him because he sparkles a little more in one eye. Leticia just stood there and rolled her eyes. They obviously didn't trust her with any speaking lines in this completely random segment that came out of nowhere.

[Commercial Break]

They aired a quick movie poster for Ron Killings in A Few Good Black Men. Tenay said

They cut to Eye Spy where Borash, Eric Young, and Alex Shelley went shopping for condoms. Young said he needs a smaller size. James Storm then led Miss Tennessee, Slick Johnson, and some other people into the convenience store where Young was buying rubbers at 4:00 in the morning. The Middle Eastern clerk asked for a price check on condoms. He could barely keep a straight face, poor guy. Young left in embarrassment and shame.

Ms. Books and Robert Roode were watching Young's exploits backstage on the monitor with Leticia. Roode said Brooks has until next week to get the contract signed. Brooks looked at Leticia and said she knows she wants her. Leticia was silent again.

1 -- X Division champion CHRIS SABIN & AUSTIN STARR vs. JERRY LYNN & SENSHI. OK, so now for something different. This is turning into Monty Python with completely random videos and in-ring segments with no sense of continuity. The only problem is that Monty did a comedy sketch show and TNA is trying to present a wrestling show. The bell rang after Sabin was the only one to get his ring entrance. Lynn dropped Sabin with the TKO and Starr broke up a pin. Starr and Senshi then brawled to the floor. In the ring, Sabin went for the Cradle Shock on Lynn, but he countered into a cradle pin for the win. WINNERS: LYNN & SENSHI in 4:00. I'm pretty sure this was a tag match, but I could be wrong. What's left to say about the X Division? The eulogy was read months ago.

Leticia was backstage with B.G. and Kip James at the interview set. Kip had tape over his mouth. B.G. extended his apologies to Christy Hemme and apologized to anyone who was offended by what Kip said to Christy. Kip took off the tape and said TNA wrestling is a man's world. He said men rule in wrestling. B.G. said that's too much and he left.

[Q3]

[Commercial Break]

They aired a replay of Team 3D's GI Joe promo a few weeks ago. They cut to home footage of Konnan standing in his living room with a walker. He said LAX broke up AMW and they'll take out Team 3D when they least expect it. It was good to see Konnan looking healthy, despite losing so much weight. Konnan said that from here on out, TNA would start respecting LAX.

Sting is back in character this week. I guess last week was personal and this week is just make-believe wrestling. He walked to the ring with his baseball bat in hand. Sting gave his sermon and said Abyss has been hiding and protecting something for ten years. He said he's going to reveal what Abyss did, but he realizes Abyss is going to go off and he's willing to sacrifice himself to get through another layer of Abyss's mess. Sting said Abyss put three bullets in the back of a man's head, put him in a coma, but he lived. Sting said it was Abyss's father and he wants to know why. Abyss then walked into the ring and clotheslined Sting to the outside. He then threw Sting into the ring steps and grabbed his head in anger. Abyss threw Sting into the wall at the base of the bleachers as Tenay and West talked about Sting sacrificing himself to get through to Abyss. Tenay droned on about Sting thinking of Abyss as a human being and doing this for him. Abyss threw Sting through the side exit to outside of the building, then they inexplicably cut to Tenay and West talking at their scripts, like they were reading lines for a play. Mitchell then appeared and threw a fire ball in Sting's face. West said Sting is on fire, but he wasn't. Sting screamed and ran into the camera as they cut to a break.

[Commercial Break]

[Q4]

They cut backstage where an ambulance was driving away with Sting. Ringside, West shuddered like he just stepped into 30 degree air outside. Tenay said Sting would never be the same physically.

Borash was backstage with Christian and Tomko. He said it's been a disturbing night. Christian said that through it all, he's still the star of the show. Christian told someone off-camera to spin back around to the building and pick up Christopher Daniels when he's done with him.

Christopher Daniels walked to the ring. They cut to a promo from two weeks ago when Daniels told Leticia it's time for him to serve his own best interests. Christian came out and Tenay and West continued to discuss the "shocking revelation" that Abyss shot his dad in the back. This is so ridiculous. They're asking us to care about a storyline when we have no idea what kind of dad Abyss had. Was he abusive? Did he do charitable works? Did he kill Abyss's sister, then Abyss killed his dad in self-defense? TNA doesn't want to take the time to introduce characters (e.g. Joe's girlfriend), but they want the viewer to care about storylines that centrally involve unknown people.

2 -- NWA champion CHRISTIAN CAGE vs. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS -- non-title match. Joe walked to ringside two minutes into the match. Tenay told Borash to come ringside to find out what Joe's intentions are.

[Commercial Break]

Christian had Daniels in a headlock out of the break. Borash then interviewed Joe ringside and he said he's proving a point to his good friend, Kurt Angle. Christian then hit a standing neckbreaker and jaw-jacked to the hard camera. Tomko then jumped on the apron to give Christian some advice. Joe got up and screamed at Christian. Meanwhile, Daniels had to keep selling a neckbreaker like he was dead. He then made a comeback with an STO and right hand jabs. He hit a Death Valley Driver for a nearfall at 8:00. Daniels then hit a springboard moonsault on Christian for another nearfall. He went for the BME, but Christian moved. Daniels landed on his feet, though, and went for corner punches. Christian countered into a roll up and tried to use the ropes for a pin, but Daniels kicked out. Christian went for the Unprettier, but Daniels countered into a front slam into the Koji Clutch. Tomko tried to interfere, but Joe jumped in the ring and cut him off. With the ref's back turned, Christian kicked Daniels between the legs and hit the Unprettier for the win. WINNER: CHRISTIAN IN 10:00. Just a match with plenty else happening simultaneously.

Joe chased Christian and Tomko after the match and Christian took Joe's towel. Angle then ran into the ring from behind and spun Joe around. Christian didn't seem to realize or mind that Joe had the NWA Title belt in his hand. Angle and Joe exchanged words while Daniels recovered on his knees in the corner.

Kurt Angle speaks out about TNA/WWE

From Wrestlescoop.com

Must Read Kurt Angle Interview: Hogan To TNA

Angle on Bubba Highlight Points:

- He makes more money with TNA than WWE.
- Dixie Carter is a better business person than Vince McMahon could ever be.
- TNA had their highest rating ever last week and that their ratings are better than Smackdown (?) and ECW.
- Hopes to have Big Show and Hogan in TNA and said Big Show was the hardest worker in WWE and Vince did not appreciate him.
- Nash cannot wrestle for a year and he would like to have him wrestle when he is ready.
- There are rumors about Jericho coming in.
- He talked to a doctor about Vince and Vince "looks like a heart-attack waiting to happen".
- WWE got their business deal with China because of him. He then clarified he passed a number onto Shane and he never received credit.
- HHH is a "slimeball" but has great ideas and great psychology and will be best for WWE after he retires.
- Again stated TNA had a 1.5 last week and beat Smackdown (?).
- Hogan, Goldberg might come in and then they will beat RAW.
- The three top free-agents for TNA are Hogan, Show and Jericho.
- Test is a multi-millionaire from real estate.
- Jericho was drunk and started a fight with Test in WWE and held his own.
- Test has nothing wrong with him and should have been pushed better.
- He brought Bobby Lashley into Pro Wrestling.
- Christian needs to change to be a true heel and that is what they (Angle and TNA) are doing with him and that he hopes Christian has a long run as champ, but needs to change his style and take direction better. Angle will have a match of the year with him soon.
- He does not know if he is a babyface or not currently in TNA, but likes his character.
- He is doing commercials for Bald Guys - a grooming company with shampoo for bald men.
- Undertaker stiffed him in the ring after Kurt told him he did not understand the "carny speak" in the ring during their first match.
- Talked briefly about his concussion and said he has no idea how the Iron Man match wound up being that good. He apologized to Samoa Joe and claimed Joe will take a month off soon because of injuries.
- He had a 5-star match with Hogan at King of the Ring and said he has a lot of respect for Hogan.
- Admitted he is an agent and writer and said if Big Show comes in, he would be undefeated and Kurt would make sure of that.
- Talked about his heat with Shawn Michaels over the fact Michaels did not go to Smackdown when asked. He claimed that McMahon lied when he said Angle was his top choice to switch brands. He then admitted that Michaels was the one that said he would put over Angle at WM. This was right after he said Michaels did not put people over.
- RVD admitted to Angle that he had no idea how to work and that he only hits highspots and points to himself and says "RVD".
- He wants Bubba as a manager in TNA.
- He wants Tito Ortiz on the phone next week live on Bubba's show to talk to him about fighting.

During the course of the conversation, Bubba claimed:
- Hulk Hogan told him Dixie had her sh** together and her backers could buy & sell Vince ten times over.
- Hogan has talked with Dixie Carter about coming in.
- Turner/WCW went with well known names to combat Vince and how TNA should do that. Angle agreed.
- He and Kurt should put the Hogan/TNA deal in motion.
- He will contact Dixie about making TNA appearances.

WWE Smackdown Results: 1-26-07

WWE.com (direct link to results)

Shooting stars
By Lennie DiFino
January 26, 2007

The Superstars of SmackDown looked to make statements before heading into the 20th annual Royal Rumble in two days on pay-per-view.

World Heavyweight Champion Batista, who will defend his title this Sunday against Mr. Kennedy, kicked off the show in a champion vs. champion match. He faced the “Longest Reigning Champion in the history of SmackDown,” Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms. The Animal looked sharp, picking up the victory as he steam rolls into the Royal Rumble showdown.

Later in the night, Kennedy told WWE fans, “this Sunday, I will defeat Batista and become World Heavyweight Champion. I am the fastest rising Superstar in the history of WWE.” Batista stormed the ring and demanded that Kennedy hit him again (as he did last week on SmackDown). As the challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship looked to deliver, Undertaker appeared in the ring behind Kennedy. When The Phenom attempted to blast him with a boot, Kennedy ducked and ran up the aisle, and Undertaker inadvertently nailed Batista.

Mr. Kennedy was able to duck and run this time, but at the Royal Rumble, there is no place to hide as he goes one-on-one with Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship.

As announced on WWE.com, the competitors in the Six-Man Over-the-Top Challenge were in single action against each other on SmackDown.

United States Champion Chris Benoit, the 2004 Royal Rumble winner faced off against The Miz, who will make his Royal Rumble debut this Sunday. In 2004, Chris Benoit entered #1 and outlasted every other Superstar en route to his victory. Miz’s Royal Rumble experience will be chronicled all day Sunday on WWE.com. On this night, the Miz put forth a valiant effort before he tapped out to the Crossface.

Showing that the Royal Rumble truly is every man for himself, King Booker and Finlay were in action against each other. These former allies will both be part of the 30-man-over-the-top match in 48 hours and both Superstars looked for momentum heading toward Sunday.

MVP tried to back out of his match with the man who burned him at Armageddon in an Inferno Match – Kane. General Manager Theodore Long told Porter, “you have no choice. You fight Kane or you lose your spot in the Royal Rumble.”

With all that is at stake at the Royal Rumble, the first-time participant MVP headed to the ring, where a grinning Kane awaited. MVP must have known SmackDown’s General Manager was going to make him wrestle, because the first chance he had, MVP grabbed a gas can from beneath the ring, looking to administer revenge on Kane.

The Big Red Monster rose up before MVP could attack, and chased off the cocky Porter. Will MVP find himself staring across the ring this Sunday at Kane, the most dominant man in Royal Rumble history?

The Six-Man Over-the-Top Challenge was supposed to be a warm-up to the Royal Rumble, but it turned out to be a prelude to darkness, as Undertaker arrived and destroyed the competition, making a statement for all of SmackDown, Raw and ECW to see.

Joey Mercury, Johnny Nitro and Melina reformed MNM and took on the WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London, Brian Kendrick and Ashley in a Mixed Tag Team Match.

MNM were the last team to hold the titles that London and Kendrick have held for over eight months. Melina caused a distraction, and MNM were victorious heading into their match with The Hardys this Sunday.

Finally, Deuce and Domino were once again impressive in victory. Since debuting last week, the tag team has consecutive wins on SmackDown, as they look to ascend the ladder of the SmackDown tag division.

Matches
World Heavyweight Champion Batista def. Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms
United States Champion Chris Benoit def. The Miz
Deuce & Domino def. Adam Evans & Wes Adams
King Booker vs. Finlay (No Contest)
MNM def. WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London & Brian Kendrick w/ Ashley in Mixed Tag Match
Kane vs. MVP (No Contest)
Six-Man-Over-the-Top Challenge - Kane vs. MVP vs. Finlay vs. King Booker vs. The Miz vs. Chris Benoit (No Contest)
