In front of a raucous Oklahoma City crowd (which included University of Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops and country musician Toby Keith), John Cena’s night went from bad to worse in a hurry.

Cena easily came out on top of his No Holds Barred Match with Lita – even with one hand tied behind his back. Unfortunately for The Champ, by the time he left Ford Arena, he was severely beaten and embarrassed by World Heavyweight Champion King Booker, Sir William Regal and Finlay -- the same three Superstars Cena will face on SmackDown this Friday in a Six Man Tag Team Match.

Cena’s match with Lita came about when former WWE Champion Edge accepted the match for Lita after Cena made a comment regarding how easily he’d be able to defeat her in that situation. Lita wasn’t too pleased with her boyfriend making that decision for her, but she went along with it regardless of her gut instinct.

Perhaps Edge had something in mind to help protect Lita in the match, but Mr. McMahon’s Executive Assistant Jonathan Coachman informed the Rated-R Superstar that in Mr. McMahon’s absence, he’d be taking over. Edge smiled at the announcement, but he wasn’t happy much longer. Coachman said that going along with the Chairman’s philosophy to avoid predictability, if Edge interfered in the match he’d lose his rematch clause and would forfeit his opportunity to take on Cena for the WWE Championship.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Lita stood little chance against the champion, and after a quick FU, Cena was able to get the three-count. But afterwards, the beating the WWE Champion suffered at the hands of the SmackDown thugs seemed to last forever. With Cena’s arm still tied behind his back, he was virtually helpless to defend himself. His vulnerable arm was the target of Regal, who also eye gouged and dropped hard punches to Cena’s mouth. Finlay used his shillelagh to blast Cena in the face and in the back of his head, but it was King Booker who made it all worse. He demanded his loyal SmackDown subjects to bring a nearly unconscious Cena to kiss his royal feet. After Finlay and Regal shoved the champion’s face into the World Heavyweight Champion’s gnarled feet, the humiliation Cena must have felt is unthinkable. To the WWE Champion’s credit, he never gave up trying to resist their demands… but his resistance only caused him to be beaten worse by Regal and Finlay.

When the three SmackDown vagrants left the ring, Edge couldn’t hold back his laughs. Never mind that his girlfriend was smashed into the mat by an FU from Cena, the Rated-R Superstar saw an opportunity to cash in his rematch clause.

“Well John, it looks like you just got your ass kicked and it looks like you’re going to get your ass kicked on Friday on SmackDown. More importantly, you’re going to get your ass kicked next week because I’m going to invoke my rematch clause. Next week on RAW, [it’s going to be] you and me, one-on-one, in a 15-foot high steel cage. Now, can you see that?” mocked the former WWE Champion.

After the beating he suffered on RAW, can Cena recover in time to compete on SmackDown? Will he be healthy enough to battle Edge in a Steel Cage Match in his first championship defense since winning it at Unforgiven? Will Lita have any animosity for her boyfriend’s disregard for her well being?

Prior to the main event match, Coachman threw a curve ball at everyone when he introduced his former mentor and former boss, Eric Bischoff. Bischoff answered the question that WWE.com raised when he was spotted wandering around Ford Arena – “What is he doing here?”

The answer wasn’t to verbally abuse Mr. McMahon for “unceremoniously and unjustly” firing him. It was to inform the WWE fans that prior to being fired, he signed a book deal with WWE and that book, Controversy Creates Cash, was now complete.

“I tell the truth about a lot of things, most of which will piss off Vincent Kennedy McMahon,” said Bischoff.

He claimed his tenure in sports-entertainment changed the entire landscape of the business.

“RAW in its current form wouldn’t exist without me. There would be no DX without the nWo (referring to a faction in WCW),” he said.

Once Bischoff got into the details of his book that “told the truth about Mr. McMahon,” that was all Coachmen needed to hear before rudely cutting him off. That wasn’t exactly the interview Coachman was hoping for from his former boss.

At Unforgiven, Trish Stratus won the Women’s Championship and then retired, causing the Women’s Championship to be vacated. To determine who will be succeeding Trish, a tournament was set up to crown a new Women’s Champion. Before facing Cena, Lita had a match with Candice Michelle…sort of. Coachman gave Lita the opportunity to choose her own referee for the match. She chose her boyfriend Edge, who smashed Candice with a spear almost immediately after signaling for the bell. That allowed Lita to get the easy cover and advance in the tournament.

Even with Mr. McMahon convalescing, DX didn’t catch a break from Coachman either, as he informed them that they’d be competing in a gauntlet involving three separate teams. Coachman obviously hasn’t forgotten what D-Generation X has done to Mr. McMahon; the worst came at Unforgiven when Shawn Michaels and Triple H beat the WWE Chairman – and his son Shane – into a bloody pulp and embarrassed him so severely by shoving his face into Big Show’s bulbous (and naked) backside that it caused both McMahons to require time way from RAW to recover.

In the Gauntlet Match, DX made quick work of their first opponents, the Highlanders. The two Scotland natives seemed taken aback by The Game and HBK, but DX knew their goal was to win. After a surprise dose of Sweet Chin Music to Rory McAllister’s face, Triple H and HBK welcomed their next opponents, Viscera and Charlie Haas.

Again, DX was victorious but it took more work than the first match. Dealing with the 500-pound Viscera alone would cause any Superstar to have to exert a massive amount of energy, but The Game and Shawn Michaels were able to discard them after a Pedigree to Haas and Sweet Chin Music to Viscera.

Their next opponents were a different story. Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch were fresh and primed for a fight as they charged the ring. The southern duo looked meaner and nastier than the other two teams, and were obviously willing to do anything it would take to win—including using a steel chair When the referee saw DX try to counter with a chair of their own he signaled for the bell and ended the match with a double disqualification. Cade & Murdoch have shown DX that they’re hungry to brawl, and have consistently been a thorn in Triple H and HBK’s side over the past few weeks. Do Cade & Murdoch have it in for DX, or are they simply trying to make their presence on RAW known by targeting two of the most accomplished Superstars in WWE?

Coachman didn’t just use his authority to give DX a Gauntlet Match or to keep Edge from interfering in the Cena’s match with Lita. He also used his newfound authority to stop Shelton Benjamin from complaining about his lack of championship opportunities because of his skin color.

Benjamin whined to Coachman that he is the most athletic Superstar in WWE but he is being held back because he is black. So, to give Benjamin a chance to prove he’s as talented as he claims, Coachman set up a match with Jeff Hardy. In the match, Benjamin showed his athleticism, but also proved he’s certainly not the most experienced. Benjamin took his time after a winded Hardy attempted a move and missed. The nonchalant attitude of Benjamin cost him the match, as Hardy was able to surprise his opponent with an inside cradle for the win.

Not all of Coachman’s orders were followed, though. In an open act of defiance, the undefeated Umaga disobeyed his warning to stay out of Kane’s Intercontinental Championship match with Johnny Nitro. When Kane went to drop Nitro with a Tombstone, Umaga rushed into the ring to attack the Big Red Monster. The victory was awarded to Kane for the Samoan Bulldozer’s interference, which was done in retaliation for Kane’s abduction of Armando Alejandro Estrada last week on RAW. The Big Red Monster is known for his vengeful side, which leaves one question: what will he do to retaliate? And what about Coachman? Will he make an example of Umaga and his manager Estrada? Does he even have the authority to do so?

Plus, Super Crazy and Carlito defeated Chris Masters and Randy Orton in a tag team match. Carlito was able to land a Back Cracker on Masters for the pinfall. After the match Orton pretended to leave the ring but was actually stalking Carlito, waiting for the right opportunity to land a blindside attack on him. When the time came, the Legend Killer delivered a painful RKO to Carlito.

Also, Ric Flair defeated Mikey of the Spirit Squad. Last week on RAW, Flair was able to defeat Johnny while the remaining four members of the Squad weren’t at ringside. This week, he proved he can win while they are all surrounding the ring. Now that Flair has defeated two members of the Squad, what will they have to say about their performance (or lack thereof) against the “Nature Boy?” Is Flair’s experience simply too much for the young World Tag Team Champions to handle?

1)There'll be no need to watch wrestling on Monday nights anymore unless they step up their product by talent and great matches.

2)I figured Angle would go to TNA and all they need now is RVD to hop on the train, get rid of Tenay(sp?) and that other guy, bring in Styles by himself, and God only knows how far they'd go if this happened.

3)I actually want Team Canada to get back. I miss the hosers. :(

A grisly night on Sci Fi
By Craig Tello
September 26, 2006

After dominating in an abominable Hell in a Cell encounter at Unforgiven, Big Show successfully defended his ECW World Title against Sandman on ECW on Sci Fi. Contending with his intrusive adversary, Matt Striker, who stole Sandman’s equalizer – the Singapore cane – Sandman was unable to overcome the Extreme Giant on Tuesday night.

Before Sandman collided with Big Show, the lethal ECW Original got his hands dirty early on in the night. As the show kicked off in Tulsa, Okla., RAW’s Oklahoma native Jim Ross made a surprising appearance in extreme territory and told the ECW fans that he himself was an ECW fan. Good Ol’ J.R. was then rudely interrupted by the pompous Matt Striker who claimed to be in the ring at the behest of the benevolent Paul Heyman to educate Ross. Striker continued by mocking Ross and his cowboy hat until Sandman appeared in the ring behind the smug teacher. As Striker turned around to see Sandman, he futilely sought help from J.R. and met a Singapore Cane blast to the midsection.

After Striker attempted to bully and humiliate J.R., the RAW commentator was given the cane and laid into the teacher who slithered off towards the locker room area. Ross then shared a cold brew with Sandman and toasted to the man he believed would be the new ECW World Champion later in the night. (WATCH the video)

Though Paul Heyman attempted to warn Big Show of Sandman’s Singapore cane, the champion affirmed that Sandman’s weapon would be legal in the match. Not only that, but Big Show promised to turn the challenger into a popsicle. Moments later, the giant Extremist went to war with Sandman with the ECW World Title at stake.

In a match where the Singapore cane was legal, Sandman repeatedly chopped away at the champion, drawing blood from the 7-foot monster. The mangled Big Show fought back using his girth and giant paws to overwhelm his opponent. The ECW Champion then gripped Sandman’s throat and looked for the chokeslam until the challenger reversed it into a thunderous DDT. The ECW Original continued his assault, striking Big Show several times, then scaling the ropes and dropping one colossal shot to the head of the Extreme Giant.

It looked as if Sandman might become champion on Sci Fi until the conniving Striker reappeared and took the Singapore cane. With Sandman distracted by ECW’s teacher, the 500-pound champion was able to get the advantage, lock in his agonizing submission hold and finish the job with a Showstopper legdrop to Sandman for the pin. Though Sandman was arguably cheated by his foe, Striker, Big Show’s victory over yet another ECW Original proved that the World’s Largest Athelete is the supreme force in the land of hardcore. (WATCH the video)

In other action, Rob Van Dam faced Hardcore Holly in a grueling Extreme Rules Match on Tuesday night. For weeks, RVD was targeted by Holly – most notably, last week when Holly battered Van Dam, costing RVD his match against the visiting King Booker. In a contest that was nothing short of vile, Van Dam gained a bit of redemption against Holly.

RVD assailed Holly with numerous kicks and high-flying tactics, suppressing his opponent for much of the match. The momentum shifted as Holly suplexed Van Dam from the ring to the outside, driving both men through a table to the unforgiving arena floor. Seemingly motivated by the sight of his own blood, Hardcore Holly continued his aggression by dropping RVD across the throat atop a steel chair and legdropping RVD from the second rope, slamming a chair to Van Dam’s face. The resilient RVD would fight back, utilizing the same chair to skateboard into Holly’s skull. Holly gained the advantage by reversing a huge monkey flip from RVD into a massive powerbomb onto the cold steel of the dented chair.

RVD would ultimately muster the strength to hit his Van Daminator, sending the chair into Holly’s cranium; RVD then ascended the turnbuckle and delivered a Five-Star Frog Splash to Holly. As the wounded Holly riled in agony from the impact of the splash onto his lacerated, bloody back, Van Dam covered his opponent for the unbelievable victory.

ECW on Sci Fi this week was also host to an Extreme Cat Fight between the sultry Vixens, Francine and Ariel. Following their altercation the week before, both fiery women were ready for extreme action on Tuesday night, but before they battled, Ariel gave Francine an impromptu tarot card reading.

“You’ll be fat, ugly, pregnant and dreaming of being with someone as masculine as Kevin Thorn,” the seductive succubus told Francine, causing the ECW Original to lunge at her Cat Fight opponent.

In a preview of Extreme Strip Poker on Oct. 10, Francine disrobed Ariel and mounted the vampiress until Thorn entered the ring to end the melee. Storming the ring to help his fellow ECW Original, Balls Mahoney came in to break up the double-team and rescue Francine. Before the bloodlusting couple could retreat, Balls blasted Thorn with a chair, full-swing and ECW Originals stood tall.

Though not in action on Tuesday night, CM Punk also made his presence felt on ECW on Sci Fi as he explained his addiction to competition and stated that he wanted to “compete with the biggest and the best” in ECW – naming RVD, Sandman and ECW World Champion Big Show.

Punk’s monologue was unexpectedly interrupted by one of Punk’s biggest fans, Kelly Kelly. The gorgeous exhibitionist adored Punk’s tattoos and mildly flirted with the straightedge Extremist, then asked Punk if he could help her prepare for Extreme Strip Poker in less than two weeks. Before CM Punk could respond, Mike Knox stepped in and grabbed his girlfriend to end their conversation. The overprotective Knox then questioned Punk and his motives with Kelly. (WATCH the video)

“That fence you seem to build around [Kelly] isn’t high enough…she’s trying to get into my yard,” Punk told Knox, resulting in an intense staredown between the two. Knox then said after he was done straightening out Kelly, he’ll be looking for Punk, who welcomed Knox’s challenge. This unique issue between these three is clearly far from over; will this explode next week on ECW on Sci Fi?

Finally, the self-proclaimed “most Extreme athlete” in ECW, Rene Dupree, addressed the ECW audience. In a most provocative fashion, the brash Extremist then gestured towards his lower extremity.

RAW's Revenge Strikes SmackDown
By Steven A. Schiff
September 29, 2006

King Booker may hail himself as a benevolent ruler, but when he and his court deplorably attacked WWE Champion John Cena Monday night on RAW, the King of SmackDown revealed his sadistic side. He wasn’t laughing long, though, as The Champ struck back on Friday night, daring The King and his Court to defend the SmackDown Kingdom. Yet despite the fact that a historic WWE battle was being waged before the spirited WWE fans in Tulsa, Okla., a surprise ambush would provide arguably the most shocking moment of all. Also, with Oct. 8 fast approaching, No Mercy continued to take shape, and we learned that King Booker and Bobby Lashley will attempt to make each other’s lives miserable next week without even squaring off in the ring together. In just its second week on the CW, SmackDown made it clear why last week’s season premiere was the second-highest rated show among adults on Friday nights. The fireworks will surely be ablaze next week on the final SmackDown before No Mercy, but the action this week was equally explosive.

Cena opened up the show as promised, relishing the sensation of returning to SmackDown, where he made his first splash in WWE. Sporting a heavily bandaged left arm as a result of the brutal ambush he endured on Monday Night RAW, when Finlay and Sir William Regal forced him to kiss King Booker’s feet. His right arm had been tied behind his back as part of a stipulation for his match against Lita, leaving Cena defenseless and his left arm isolated for a vicious beating. On SmackDown, Cena declared it was now his turn to bring along some backup.

“Tonight, the odds are even,” the WWE Champion proclaimed, “because in my corner tonight will be Bobby Lashley. In my corner tonight, I go to war with Batista. Tonight from The Champ there will be no kissing feet because tonight on SmackDown, we will simply kick [King Booker’s] ass.”

No one could blame Cena for his ornery mood following Monday night’s attack, but the sight of his bandaged left arm was a stark reminder of his condition, and begged the question, would he be physically disadvantaged during the historic main event?

Cena put the issue to rest by taking the fight to King Booker and his Court, interrupting the Royal processional along with his partners, Batista and Lashley. As the action finally made its way to the ring, the SmackDown fans (and even commentator Michael Cole) were brought to their feet by the raw strength of perhaps the most powerful team ever assembled in WWE history. However, Cole and the fans would soon witness a familiar sight, as Finlay’s Little Bastard handed him the shillelagh from under the ring. Soon the King’s Royal Knights Extraordinaire were isolating the beaten arm of Cena, and it was clear that even if he escaped SmackDown victorious, he would be at less than 100 percent strength for his Steel Cage Match against Edge for the WWE Championship on RAW Monday. Once Cena was finally able to escape the clutches of Finlay and Regal, his powerhouse partners went to work, culminating with a crushing spear from Lashley into the heart of King Booker for the pin. After plowing his way through The King’s Court in recent weeks, Lashley fittingly pinned King Booker, making it clear that with just nine days until No Mercy he is focused and coming for the World Heavyweight Championship. Will a charging Bobby Lashley be the last thing King Booker sees as Champion? Will there be a new King of SmackDown after No Mercy?

Speaking of potential new champions, Cena’s victory celebration was cut short when, as if out of the shadows, Edge appeared and speared the WWE Champion. The message was clear: Prepare to say goodbye to the WWE Championship in the Steel Cage on RAW. Cena honorably made good on his promise to SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long, but between the beating he took on Monday night and the attack by Edge on SmackDown, will Cena be physically ready to survive the 15-foot steel structure? Will it be the end of a brief championship reign Monday night in Topeka, Kan.?

As long as we’re looking ahead, the fireworks will continue on the CW network as next week in Wichita, Kan., WWE fans will witness the first ever SmackDown Pick Your Poison. World Heavyweight Champion King Booker will choose Bobby Lashley’s opponent, while the No. 1 Contender will decide who The King will meet. The only place to find out the match-ups is WWE.com, where Long will reveal King Booker’s and Lashley’s opponents on Saturday.

As No Mercy approaches, the SmackDown Superstars were busy preparing and sending messages. Mr. Kennedy had his own message for the SmackDown fans as he offered what he called a “tribute” to Undertaker, his opponent at the Oct. 8 pay-per-view. Kennedy declared that Undertaker has nothing left to prove, and that it would therefore be rude of him to “intrude upon his legacy” and “put a black mark on his career” by defeating The Deadman at No Mercy. Kennedy then shocked the audience by announcing that, out of reverence, he could not wrestle Undertaker at No Mercy.

As the incensed crowd reacted in shock to the announcement, The Phenom made his way to the ring. With Kennedy still clinging to the microphone in fear, Undertaker wrapped a paw around Kennedy’s hand and brought the mic to his lips to remind his opponent, “I show no mercy, and you will rest in peace.” As Kennedy then reared back to strike The Deadman with his trusty microphone, Undertaker had more supernatural tricks in store as the microphone literally exploded in Kennedy’s hand. Will the terror-struck young Superstar have any answer for the legendary Undertaker?

Rey Mysterio was back in action, looking fresh and revived for his match against Sylvester Terkay. While Chavo and Vickie Guerrero watched backstage, Terkay sized up Mysterio, looking as though he was wondering where the rest of Rey was. Unimpressed, Terkay stepped aside and offered the match to his manager, Elijah Burke. During the match, Terkay attempted to trip Rey, but ended up getting kicked in the face before Burke came face to face with the 6-1-9 and lost the match. Terkay continued his bullying ways after the match ended, ambushing Rey from behind. After Rey had appeared to overcome weeks of mind games from Chavo and Vickie, the Guerrero business partnership must have been delighted to see the post-match beating Rey suffered. Any extra damage inflicted on either Rey or Chavo will surely influence the outcome of their No Mercy match-up, which will be fought under the stipulation of Falls Count Anywhere.

Later in the night, Chavo was dealing out some damage of his own against Matt Hardy. Hardy will face Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms at No Mercy, where the two will return to their native North Carolina to settle a personal score that has been played out over the last few weeks on SmackDown. Helms made his way through the crowd to ringside and was quickly dispatched by Hardy, but as Hardy attempted to set up the Twist of Fate, Vickie Guerrero landed a low blow, turning the tide for Chavo to connect on a frog splash and pick up the victory. For the first time since forging their business partnership, Vickie physically assisted Chavo during a match, establishing herself as a potential difference-maker in Chavo’s future matches. Will Vickie make her impact felt at No Mercy when Chavo faces Rey Mysterio? Hardy certainly felt an impact when Helms attacked him after the match, sending his pre-No Mercy message as well. Who will come out on top in the battle of old friends and training mates?

The Tag Team Champions Brian Kendrick and Paul London weren’t in action, but they were definitely watching intently as KC James & Idol Stevens grappled with the Pitbulls to decide who would meet the champions at No Mercy, where the gold will be on the line. Thanks to Michelle McCool, James & Stevens were able to steal a victory, but it will be difficult to pry the championship away from London & Kendrick, who have brilliantly fought their way through every possible tag team challenge since winning the gold at Judgment Day. Can James & Stevens finally end the reign of what has become one of the most exciting young combinations in WWE?

The southern mainstay of Tulsa was the perfect venue for the debut of SmackDown’s newest resident redneck, Jimmy Wang Yang, who saluted his fans with some country line dance moves and a rebel “Yee-Haw!” Yang battled tenaciously against Sylvan and showed WWE fans what they have to look forward to, displaying loads of talent and ability. Unfortunately, his coming out party was spoiled by the opportunistic Sylvan, who used the ropes as leverage to steal a victory.

Speaking of debuts, Montel Vontavious Porter – or, as he prefers to be known, MVP – will finally make his at No Mercy. As announced on WWE.com earlier this week, MVP ended his holdout and signed a contract with SmackDown. On Oct. 8 in Raleigh, N.C., it’s put up or shut up time for the outspoken free agent signee.

Finally, The Miz was back and louder than ever, trumpeting his unblemished record and generally everything about himself. In his match against Tatanka, he made good on his guarantee of victory, improving his still-undefeated record to 5-0.

TNA is pathetic. I don't like the direction it's headed. They are trying to out "WWE" the WWE. Also, the wrestler should stop with the anti-WWE promos. It's getting ridculous now.

Checkmate
By Brett Hoffman
October 2, 2006

On one incredible night in Topeka, John Cena and D-Generation X provided the RAW highlights of one of the most memorable Mondays in sports-entertainment history. DX had a great night, removing Jonathon Coachman from the building and seizing control of RAW. But John Cena had a better night, as he once again defied the odds by successfully defending the WWE Championship against his bitter rival, Edge.

It’s a rivalry that has dominated the RAW landscape for the better part of ten months. The hatred began on one cold night in January at New Year’s Revolution when Edge cashed in his Money in the Bank contract for the right to finish off an already exhausted John Cena and capture his first WWE Championship. Since that night, the two have been at each other’s throats in a constant battle for RAW’s richest prize.

On Monday night, the rivalry reached its boiling point as the two met in the only structure that could contain their animosity: a 15-foot high Steel Cage. The rules of the Steel Cage are simple: pin your opponent, make him submit, or escape the confines of the unforgiving steel before your opponent.

Cena was once again facing seemingly insurmountable odds. The champ’s arm was bandaged heavily due to a beating suffered at the hands of SmackDown’s King Booker, Finlay and Sir William Regal just days ago, but as usual, Cena was offering no excuses.

The match was every bit as competitive as the first 10 months of the rivalry, a back and forth chess match with each man utilizing their strengths and capitalizing on their opponent’s weaknesses in the struggle to gain the advantage.

The momentum changed hands on numerous occasions and each man made several attempts to climb out of the imposing structure. At one point, Edge attempted to climb out of the cage, but was stopped by Cena, who promptly suplexed him back first off the top rope to the mat below. The Chain Gang leader followed up with the signature Five-Knuckle Shuffle, and attempted to put Edge away with the F-U. However, after ten months of battle, Edge had the move scouted and countered with a modified backbreaker.

The change in momentum inspired Lita to get involved, but the fiery Diva never made it into the ring. Instead, ringside Referee Marty Rubalcaba blocked her entry and ejected the former Women’s Champion from the building, all as a dejected Edge looked on from the ring. During the commotion, a steel chair made its way into the ring, and that very chair would lead to Edge’s eventual downfall.

As the combatants battled for the chair, referee Jack Doan found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, and took an inadvertent blow which rendered him temporarily unconscious.

Edge seized control of the chair and swung for the fences, but Cena ducked and grabbed the chair to deliver a knockout blow not seen since the days of Mike Tyson’s prime. Cena immediately locked in the STFU, but with the referee disabled, there was nobody left to ring the bell. Seconds later, Edge received temporary aid in the form of tag-team specialists Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch. The cowboys hit the ring and took out Cena with the Sweet and Sour and proceeded to try and pull Edge out of the ring to victory… but D-Generation X had other plans.

Triple H and Shawn Michaels succeeded in evening the score. Michaels put the finishing touches on DX’s evening when he leveled Trevor Murdoch with Sweet Chin Music, propelling him towards the cage door, which in turn slammed right into Edge’s escaping cranium.

The jolt sent Edge back into the ring, where Cena was waiting for him with an explosive F-U and a three-count. Once again, Cena survived unbelievable odds to score an unlikely victory, all in proving himself to be the consummate fighting champion. RAW has seen its share of breath-taking matches in the past, but few have had as much emotion, or as much on the line as the battle endured by John Cena and Edge.

Nearly two hours earlier, the show opened with D-Generation X in the ring, reminding fans of the plight of the McMahons. Those McMahons, who have still yet to show their face since the beating they experienced at Unforgiven, were again away from RAW to recover from their injuries. Instead, the McMahons sent Jonathan Coachman, who interrupted DX’s rant to try and restore order to Monday nights.

Coachman told DX that he was running the show, and ordered them into an immediate four-team Tag Team Texas Tornado Match. The opposing teams, Charlie Haas & Viscera, Cade & Murdoch, and The Highlanders, quickly headed towards the ring, each hoping to make their name with a single victory over the McMahon’s hated rivals.

The rules of the Texas Tornado match are as follows: the first team to score a pinfall or submission wins. DX made quick work of an overwhelming six-on-two disadvantage, delivering their signature Sweet Chin Music/Pedigree combination to score the pin on Charlie Haas. After the match, Coachman attempted to regain control.

“It’s not over yet,” said a beleaguered Coachman. “You may have won the battle, but you haven’t won the war. I still run this show…”

Coachman’s words fell on deaf ears as DX proceeded to threaten him, and follow through with their plans to run the Executive Assistant out of the building. For the next hour, DX stalked Coachman through the building, sending him on a wild race through the Divas locker room, to an eventual encounter with the corpulent Big Dick Johnson. Eventually, time ran out on Coachman as he was shown the door and the bottom of a dumpster on his way out of the Landon Arena.

DX and John Cena weren’t the only ones to have a great Monday night. Jeff Hardy got a third chance at Johnny Nitro’s Intercontinental Championship after his first two were ruined by outside interference. On this night however, Hardy proved that sometimes, the third times the charm.

In their first two encounters, the risk-taking Hardy came within seconds of capturing the coveted gold, but both times, Melina’s interference on behalf of Nitro saved the day. On this night, Hardy again had his A-Game, and once again, Melina tried to interfere on behalf of her charge. This time however, Melina appeared to injure herself in the process, taking herself out of equation and allowing Hardy to capitalize and put Nitro away with Swanton Bomb for the victory. The win capped an emotional rollercoaster ride for Jeff, who went from sitting at home just a few months ago, recovering from trying events in his personal life, to the newest holder of the prestigious Intercontinental Championship.

In other championship news, the second opening round match of the tournament for the vacant WWE Women’s Championship was held on Monday night. The gold was vacated following Trish Stratus’ dramatic victory in her final WWE match. Last week, Lita advanced to the second round with a victory over Candice Michelle. This week, she was joined in the second round by Mickie James, who countered Victoria’s attempt to steal a victory into a sunset flip for the win. Prior to the match, DX spiced things up by ordering the Divas to compete in lingerie.

The Divas weren’t the only ones to wear lingerie on Monday night. The Spirit Squad were informed by DX of a new “dress code” on RAW, which was to be put into effect immediately for Nicky’s match with WWE Hall-of-Famer Sgt. Slaughter. The dress code turned The Spirit Squad’s already controversial male cheerleading uniforms into female cheerleading uniforms, leaving little more than a piece of fabric to cover the enthusiastic grapplers… “pom-poms.”

The new dress-code, combined with further embarrassment and ridicule from DX, provided all the distraction that the Sarge needed to surprise Nicky with a roll-up and pick up a stunning win over the World Tag-Team Champion.

Also, in a return match from Unforgiven, Randy Orton proved himself to be RAW’s coolest Superstar when he reversed a cross body attempt by Carlito into a pinning combination, grabbing the tights to score another impressive victory.

And, in a warm up for his huge “Loser Leaves RAW” match on next week’s RAW Family Reunion, Umaga made quick work of Snistky. The Samoan Bulldozer dominated the foot-loving big man to send a message to the Big Red Machine.

Next week, RAW will celebrate its family reunion in grand fashion with a special three-hour program starting at 8 p.m. ET, and only on USA.

Watch videos from this week's RAW.

ECW on Sci-Fi Results: 10-3-06

Extreme supremacy
By Craig Tello
October 3, 2006

Standing tall at the very beginning and extreme end of this week’s ECW on Sci Fi, both Test and the dominant ECW World Champion Big Show had a huge night at the expense of several ECW Originals. Following a successful ECW World Title defense last week against Sandman, the monstrous champion Big Show continued to demonstrate his supremacy this week by not only gaining a tag team victory over two ECW Originals but also shifting the outcome of the grueling main event match between Rob Van Dam and Test.

Despite Van Dam sustaining one of the most arduous encounters of his career – fending off not just his opponent, but also Paul Heyman and the Private Security Force – RVD’s near victory was squashed by the Extreme Giant who cost RVD the contest. This night marked the mauling of the very roots of the extreme, culminating with Paul Heyman raising the hands of the new blood Extremists.

In a match that revisited the damage and wreckage of the week before, Test battled RVD in an exhausting, fierce Extreme Rules Match on Tuesday night. A hardcore veteran, RVD used his agility and high risk arsenal in an attempt to nullify Test’s size and strength advantage. Test countered a lot of RVD’s assault, even moving out of the way of RVD’s corkscrew legdrop from the ring apron.

Moments into the match, RVD took the extreme game to Test by hitting an unbelievable Rolling Thunder onto his opponent as his body lay atop the steps. The new blood Extremist fought back and prepared to suplex RVD into a table on the outside – the same fate that befell Hardcore Holly one week before. Van Dam blocked the suplex and sunset flipped over Test, sending both men tumbling through the table to the outside.

To add to the chaos, the tide truly turned for RVD as Paul Heyman made his way to the ring with his Private Security Force to further interfere in Van Dam’s matters. It took only a few moments for the black-clad security force to physically pick RVD apart with their nightsticks – all perfectly legal under Extreme Rules. Nonetheless, Van Dam still continued to fight back after this attack and even endured flying elbow drop with a chair from Test.

Van Dam somehow regained the advantage on Test then eliminated the security force with a flying dropkick to the pair on the outside. In control, RVD prepared to deliver his Five-Star Frog Splash to Test’s exhausted body as his body lay strewn across a table inside the ring.

Suddenly, the Extreme Giant appeared to curb RVD’s momentum, launching him off the top rope and through the table. Test capitalized by hitting his signature fireman’s carry into a swinging neckbreaker for the pinfall and as Test stood triumphant over his opponent’s fallen body alongside the ECW World Champion, it was clear that Heyman’s quest to ruin Van Dam’s life took a giant step forward. What is the relationship between Test and Big Show? How are both men and Paul Heyman aligned? What could this collusion mean for the ECW roster?

Earlier in the evening, the messianic Heyman stood backstage with a wounded and stitched Hardcore Holly. Following an inhumanly brutal Extreme Rules Match with RVD last week, Holly received 24 stitches and was ordered out of action for 10 days by doctors. This week, the resilient Holly was rabid for competition despite his injury, but Heyman refused to allow him to compete against RVD. As a result, Holly got physical with the man who brought him to ECW and shoved Heyman into the wall. Suddenly, Holly was thwarted by a steel chair blast to the back from Test who stepped in to protect Heyman. This shot from Test not only rocked Holly but also opened up his wound, causing it to bleed and Hardcore to writhe in pain. Will Holly return the favor to Test and Heyman? Will this prolong Holly's recovery time?

Like Test, Big Show also saw his share of action before the main event in an Extremist tag team encounter. Just one week after Matt Striker stole Sandman’s equalizer – the Singapore cane – to cost the ECW Original his match with Big Show, the insufferable teacher teamed with the Extreme Giant to battle Sandman and Sabu.

The brash, cocky Striker came to the ring confident as he stood flanked by the massive ECW World Champion and from the start of the match, the unlikely tandem mounted a strong offense on Sabu within the ring, keeping Sandman uninvolved. The Suicidal, Homicidal, Genocidal, Death-Defying Maniac would drop his argyle-fashioned opponent and make the tag to Sandman who finally got some retribution on Striker with a torrent of haymakers and a Heineken-rana from the top rope.

Ultimately, the dominating ECW World Champion joined the action and used his uncanny girth and might to overpower the ECW Original pair. Utilizing their advantage, Striker and Show double-teamed Sandman and the former school teacher was able to pin the Singapore cane swinger. Thus, with the support of the Extreme Giant on ECW on Sci Fi, Striker succeeded in trumping Sandman for the second week in a row.

In other action, the peculiar Kevin Thorn faced Tommy Dreamer in a highly physical blow-for-blow contest. Overcoming a ghastly gutbuster, Dreamer was able to synch Thorn and deliver a DDT. Ariel again interfered and slipped Thorn’s foot on the rope to break Dreamer’s pinfall attempt. An instance later, with the referee distracted, Thorn used his walking stick to bash Dreamer’s skull and earn another substantial victory.

Another new blood Extremist who gained another victory on ECW on Sci Fi was CM Punk who maintained his extreme undefeated streak with a win over Danny Doring. Punk upheld his streak and afterwards, was called to from the stage by the stunning Kelly Kelly who applauded Punk on his victory. As the CM Punk fan prepared for a very special exposé, Kelly’s boyfriend Mike Knox rushed to the stage and quickly curtailed the corporeal exhibition.

Still in the ring, the straightedge Extremist addressed Knox, saying that the problem isn’t Punk staying away from Knox’s girlfriend, but the problem is Knox’s girl staying away from Punk. Instantly, Knox headed to the ring to confront Punk, but just as he made his way up the steps, Knox had a change of heart and backed away. Will this issue ever explode between these competitors? Where will Kelly Kelly stand if it comes to blows between these men?

Knox may have been able to cover up his girlfriend on ECW on Sci Fi this week, but he may not be able to step in on Oct. 10 when Kelly competes in the first-ever Extreme Strip Poker on Sci Fi. In preparation for the sexiest card game ever, Vixens Kelly and Trinity talked about their upcoming competition. Adorned only in two Ace cards, the revealing Kelly stood by as Trinity pumped and perked two of her most extreme assets.

TNA Impact! Results: 10-5-06

TNA Impact on Spike TV
October 5, 2006
Taped September 25 in Orlando, Florida
Report by James Caldwell, Torch columnist

- We start with a video package from last week recapping Christian and Rhino fighting during the X match and Jarrett chasing his belt. They also included clips of Sting and Angle's recent video packages.

- Borash was backstage to introduce controversial footage of what happened in Mexico between LAX and Styles. He went into Jim Cornette's office where he was in the middle of a conference with Eric Young, Shark Boy, Eric Young, Norman Smiley, and Elix Skipper. He said the loser of the match loses his job. He told the mute men to leave his office and get ready for this Loser Leaves TNA match. Abyss and James Mitchell walked in. Mitchell said he wanted a guaranteed title match for Abyss after Bound for Glory. "Mitchell, you're the sleaziest man I've ever known, but you've got a deal," Cornette said. Based on what credentials did Cornette agree to give Abyss a title match? I hope that TNA has a plan in place for creating some storyline twists with this sudden #1 Contender decision, but you have to make some money with Contender matches instead of handing out title shots.

1 -- KAZARIAN & MAVERICK MATT vs. TEAM 3D (BROTHER RAY & BROTHER DEVON)

Shane Douglas and The Naturals joined Tenay and West ringside. Douglas talked about them winning their match at No Surrender to become #1 Contender's to the tag titles. After the heels came out, Team 3D came to the ring. Douglas talked up his charges for not quitting at the PPV. Devon hit a flying back elbow smash on Bentley early on. AMW and Gail Kim walked out on stage to watch the action. West said TNA's tag division has the most depth in wrestling. They showed the James Gang walking out to the opposite entrance ramp.

[Commercial Break]

Bentley dropped Ray with a drop kick off the ropes. Kazarian, sporting some ripped jeans, tagged in and choked Ray on the ropes. Ray came back with a hard clothesline. He made a lazy cover and Kazarian just kicked his legs in the air without actually kicking out, but everyone paused. Devon and Bentley tagged in for their teams. The action broke down then Team 3D hit a double team hangman's neck breaker on Bentley. They followed with the 3D on Kazarian for the win.

WINNERS: Team 3D in 10:00.

- Afterwards, Ray took the mic as the other two teams stared into the ring from opposite ring entrances. He said they were going to start at the bottom and work their way up. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of Kazarian and Bentley. Ray said Team 3D does not have an opponent at Bound for Glory. He said he doesn't care whether it's AMW, Naturals, James Gang, or a tag team from the past, present, or future, they will finally become NWA tag champs.

- They aired a video package on Rhino. They focused on him in his old stomping grounds. He talked about making it in the world when people in his neighborhood don't make it. They interviewed people from the hood about Rhino's influence. They played an acoustic version of Eminem's Eight Mile track.

- James Mitchell was in the ring with Abyss. That was quick. Mitchell said Cornette has made a deal with the devil regarding the NWA Title. He addressed Samoa Joe and told him to come to the ring and hand over the title belt or he would send Abyss backstage to pry the belt from Joe's dead fingers. Joe's music hit then Joe walked to the ring with the title belt. Abyss chokeslammed him then grabbed the belt. Jeff Jarrett came to the ring and grabbed the belt from Abyss. They argued then Abyss punched Jarrett. Joe and Abyss traded punches on Jarrett then Joe cleared Jarrett with a running kick to the head. Joe tried to leave with the belt, but Abyss pulled him back into the ring. Joe came back with a powerslam off the ropes. He grabbed the belt and left the ring.

- Tenay and West then discussed Sting's feelings on the title situation. West said Sting is too busy in conditioning to worry about who has possession of the belt. Where's the footage? That should be an integral part of the match build up and it needs to air weeks in advance of the match.

[Commercial Break]

- They aired a video on the Sting DVD, available on Tuesday.

- Tenay and West talked about Bound for Glory. They discussed Styles/Daniels vs. LAX in six sides of steel. West said there's a reason why Styles can't be here tonight. He introduced footage from Mexico. They showed Styles holding a trophy and cutting a promo. LAX approached Styles in the middle of his promo. Konnan then landed a hard right hand. This led to several Lucha wrestlers jumping Styles and kicking him while he was down on the ground. Not exactly the brutal beat down that was advertised. It was pretty tame by 2006 pro wrestling standards.

2 -- LAX (HERNANDEZ & HOMICIDE w/Konnan) vs. TYLER BLACK & JEFF BLUXON

Moody Jack introduced LAX. They came to the ring and attacked the designated jobbers. Top rope Ace Crusher by Homicide followed by Border Toss by Hernandez for the easy win.

WINNERS: LAX in 1:00.

- LAX walked to the Spanish announce table. Konnan took the mic and spoke behind a cage wall. He said that it's no coincidence Cornette booked LAX in an Ultimate X match right after they won the tag titles when they had no prior experience in Ultimate X. Konnan said that won't matter when they face Styles and Daniels in a cage match at the PPV. He said they would experience a level of violence never seen before. Konnan said they're going to make 5151 even more visible. Homicide did his machine gun noise as Hernandez just glared and smirked into the camera. Hernandez is the coolest looking badass on TV. You just want to have a beer with him then watch him beat the crap out of someone at the bar.

[Commercial Break]

- Buff Bagwell is back on the show in a video package to talk about Sting-Jarrett. Luger chimed in with thoughts on this being the pinnacle of Jarrett's career if he were to end Sting's career. Bagwell said Sting would be a winner when this is over.

2 -- ERIC YOUNG vs. NORMAN SMILEY vs. ELIX SKIPPER vs. SHARK BOY vs. ERIC YOUNG -- Loser Gets Fired

Tenay promised we would hear from Angle on next week's broadcast. Larry Zbyszko walked to ringside and threw Eric Young into the ring. Young then grabbed Z's hairpiece. Z took off running for the back. Action spilled to the outside and the referee occupied himself with everyone except for Shark Boy and Young, who were in the ring. Z then came back to ringside with a golf club and lightly tapped Young in the gut. Shark Boy then rolled up Young and the referee instantly turned back and counted a three count. The other wrestlers celebrated in the ring while Young sat on his knees trying to make sense of what happened. Tenay said he doesn't know what this means for Young after Zbyszko cost him his job. Young stared at the ground as he left the ring.

WINNER: Shark Boy in 2:00. They have two storylines coming together at once with Young fired and Zbyszko being the person who was determined to be in cahoots with Jeff Jarrett during the lie detector business.

[Commercial Break]

- They aired another "of Biblical proportions" video package on Sting. It sounded like a chapter out of Revelations with imagery of death following the great beast. They showed Sting with red streaks of paint to go with the green from last week.

- Borash was backstage with Jarrett and Christian before their tag match. He asked them about teaming up in the main event. Jarrett said the last thing he wants to talk about is this tag match. He said he just wants his belt back. He said he would publicly execute Sting's career at Bound for Glory after gathering the townspeople on Planet Jarrett. Christian cut off Jarrett and told him to shut up. He said he wants the interview time. Christian said that since he's the biggest star in TNA, he should have the last interview time. He told Jarrett you're welcome for helping score the earlier prime time TV deal. Christian told Jarrett not to worry about Joe, but to worry about following his lead in their tag match. Nice exchange to create tension between the heels. Too bad they gave no focus on who Jarrett and Christian are even facing.

3 -- JEFF JARRETT & CHRISTIAN CAGE vs. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS & RON KILLINGS

Don West made up for TNA not establishing any reason for Daniels and Killings teaming together other than they're babyfaces by talking about Daniels picking a former two-time NWA champion to replace Styles as his partner. They came out to separate ring entrances, as did Christian then Jarrett, who brought his guitar with him. West talked up TNA as the alternative wrestlers want to be part of. The babyfaces worked on Christian early on. They did a dance number before stomping on Christian. Jarrett ran into the ring and Killings cleared him with a right hand. Killings then charged Christian, who side stepped him and tossed him over the top rope to the floor.

[Commercial Break]

Christian worked on Killings out of the break. Jarrett slap-tagged himself into the match and Christian didn't appreciate that. Jarrett then did the Strut after knocking down Killings. Both men crashed to the mat after an awkward suplex reversal. Daniels then tagged in and cleared the heels. He dropped Christian with the STO then hit a turn out slam on Jarrett for a nearfall when Christian broke up the pin. As Jarrett distracted the referee, Homicide came to ringside and smacked Daniels in the gut with the slapjack. Daniels crashed to the mat then Christian set up for a top rope frog splash. Jarrett had other ideas and he quickly covered Daniels as Christian stared in disbelief that Jarrett stole the spotlight for the pin.

WINNERS: Jarrett & Christian in 10:00. Not enough of the match aired to get wrapped up in the action.

- Christian shoved Jarrett then asked for the mic. Jarrett stole the mic and said he wanted his title belt back from Joe. Christian wasn't happy. Joe then walked out with the title belt and battled Jarrett. Jarrett ducked a corner kick and Joe crashed to the outside. Jarrett grabbed his title belt then Christian dropped Jarrett with the Unprettier. Christian held up the title belt then Rhino hit the ring and jumped Christian. The belt flew to the outside and Joe retrieved the belt. Joe walked up the ramp with the belt while Christian and Rhino battled up the opposite ramp. Joe didn't do anything and needed luck to still have possession of the belt.

Nash Signs New TNA Deal, Angle's Debut, Sting's Look, More
Written by Ryan Clark

It looks like we haven't seen the last of Kevin Nash in TNA as he will be appearing on Impact next week to make a statement regarding the 10/22 Bound For Glory PPV. We've been told he's signed a new deal with the company. That ends the nWo vs. D-X in WWE rumors for the time being.

Kurt Angle's first TNA broadcast appearance will be in the form of a sitdown interview on next week's edition of Impact. He will give the "inside story" on his arrival to TNA, what his immediate future holds, his role as the "enforcer" during the Jarrett vs. Sting PPV match, and he'll also speak out on WWE in the interview.

Bobby Roode has narrowed down his choices for a manager. Although, it doesn't look like he'll actually announce as to who it is on next week's edition of Impact as he'll simply be announcing the finalists. His manager will probably be announced at the PPV.

Another special Sting video will air on next week's edition of Impact as he attempts to "send a message" to Jeff Jarrett. Perhaps he'll show off a new paint color as he was shown wearing two streaks of red paint across his face on last night's Impact. The week before, he debuted a green painted look. We've got exclusive photos below.

For more great exclusive TNA coverage like what you just read above including a new blue Sting facepaint, visit TNAWrestlingNews.com

WWE Smackdown Results: 10-6-06

From Poison to Pandemonium
By Steven A. Schiff
October 6, 2006

The World Heavyweight Champion and the No. 1 Contender picked each other’s poison, but by the end of the night, they and their opponents were victimized by their own venom. The quest for SmackDown’s Holy Grail seems to have finally reached its boiling point, and four of the Kingdom’s most fearsome warriors were involved in a night of surprises, betrayals and shocking announcements, one of which offered an unprecedented shake-up of the Championship chase just days before King Booker puts his gold on the line at No Mercy.

SmackDown opened with King Booker and Bobby Lashley each announcing who they had chosen for each other in the night’s “Pick Your Poison” format. As reported on WWE.com last week, it would be King Booker against his Royal Knight Extraordinaire, Finlay and Lashley versus his friend, Batista. Looking to maintain a sense of order in his Royal Court, King Booker reached out to his Irish ally, asking him to “Be a good Knight and lie down.” Finlay has proven time and time again that he never lies down for anyone, and he turned The King’s request back on fellow Knight Sir William Regal.

“What would you do?” he snarled. “Would you lie down for The King?” As Regal attempted to answer, he became flustered and quickly left. Finlay would soon do the same, but not before reminding King Booker of whom he is, and what he loves to do. Judging by the disconcerted look on The King’s face, he knew that hope was grim before he even asked the question. Finlay’s curt response and abrupt exit merely reasserted that The King was in for a heap of trouble.

When it finally came time for the two to square off, Finlay’s Little Bastard once again entered the fray and tilted the tide in the Irishman’s favor. He crept out from under the apron and chased Queen Sharmell around the ring with a mouse. The sight of the terrified Queen distracted both King Booker and the referee, and with the two of them distracted, Finlay was able to grab his trusty shillelagh and crack The King in the back of the knee. Finlay picked up the victory, and The King was perfectly snake-bitten by Lashley’s poison. Has Finlay’s loyalty to King Booker officially run its course?

The No. 1 Contender must have enjoyed the result of King Booker’s match, but he couldn’t smile for long as he was slated to take on Batista. As two of the most powerful men on SmackDown went blow for blow, Finlay stormed into the ring and attacked Batista, looking to deliver a message to the man he will face in just two days at No Mercy. Not more than a second later, King Booker came flying in as well. However, instead of attacking Lashley – a man The King would like to see weakened, given the dominance Lashley has shown over him in recent weeks – The King of SmackDown came out swinging for Finlay, undoubtedly still steamed over being pinned. Before long it was a free-for-all that required the assistance of SmackDown’s entire referee crew to break up. It was then when SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long finally appeared, ready to restore order to his show and offer a simply unimaginable announcement.

“It seems to me that all four of y’all want to go at it real bad. So this Sunday at No Mercy, we’re gonna have ourselves a World Championship Match, but it will not be a one-on-one match. It will be a Fatal Four Way Match!”

As the crowd roared in appreciation, the four men in the ring absorbed the monumental announcement. Never before in SmackDown history has the main event of a pay-per-view been changed with only days to go before the event was set to take place. Now, just two days before No Mercy, two new contenders learned they will have a chance to walk out of Raleigh, NC as World Heavyweight Champion. Plus, with the Fatal Four Way format, now King Booker won’t even have to be involved in the decision to lose the title. Imagine Finlay’s excitement when he realized that if he can find a way to pin Batista or Lashley (as he has managed to do before very recently), he can steal The King’s gold without laying a hand on him. In fact, it was such a scenario that cost Finlay his U.S. Championship in a Triple Threat Match. Batista’s smile reflected his relief and excitement to finally be back in the position to reclaim the championship he held before a triceps injury forced him out of action for months. The King, meanwhile, looked as though he had just been punched in the gut. As if it were not bad enough for him to have to face a genetic powerhouse in Bobby Lashley, now he will have to face the one man on SmackDown who may be more destructive and physically imposing than Lashley, and the one member of his Court who has shown that he has no allegiances to anyone but himself. Is King Booker’s reign all but over?

As if all of this chaos wasn’t enough, the SmackDown fans in Wichita, KS got yet another treat from Long. As all four of the No Mercy main event competitors crowded the GM’s office, Long declared that they would have to coexist for one more night, as SmackDown’s main event would be a tag team match pitting King Booker and Finlay against Lashley and Batista. The King was left to shout that he could not possibly trust any of his three competitors, and with just two days between this match and their Fatal Four Way at No Mercy, who could expect any of them to trust each other? How would they possibly coexist in a tag team scenario less than an hour after the momentous announcement?

As it turned out, they wouldn’t have to cooperate for long. There was clear dissention between King Booker and Finlay, as neither man appeared interested in tagging in for the other. After a spear by Lashley to King Booker, The King’s last loyal Knight, Sir William Regal, interrupted the match, resulting in a no contest. However, Batista took the opportunity to assert himself before No Mercy, delivering a string of spine-busters to King Booker, Regal, Lashley and – after a low blow from Finlay’s Little Bastard – Finlay. Prior to SmackDown, Batista didn’t even have a championship opportunity in sight. However, following Friday night’s incredible events, could The Animal be the favorite to walk out of No Mercy the World Heavyweight Champion? Why did Regal enter the fray – has The King’s Court crumbled? How must Bobby Lashley be feeling after that spine-buster from his friend, Batista? How will Little Bastard impact the match at No Mercy? What about Queen Sharmell? The decision may have come abruptly and unexpectedly, but WWE fans everywhere should be simply delighted by the boundless array of possibilities for No Mercy.

Of course, No Mercy already had WWE fans salivating for plenty of other reasons, and the audience in Wichita got a taste of things to come with only two days until the pay-per-view. In a battle of No Mercy foes, Rey Mysterio and Matt Hardy teamed up to take on Chavo Guerrero and Gregory Helms. In the weeks since being betrayed by Chavo and Vickie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio has turned heartbreak into anger, and he will be looking to put his rivalry with Chavo to rest after he faces his former friend in a Falls Count Anywhere Match at No Mercy. As for Hardy and Helms, this personal rivalry will head back to where things began for both of them. As kids, they competed in everything they could in order to declare, “Anything you can do, I can do better.” Now, under the brightest lights in sports-entertainment, the childhood friends will put personal pride and bragging rights on the line. In the match, Hardy delivered the Twist of Fate to Helms, followed by Rey Dropping the Dime for the pin. If Hardy can connect again on Sunday, hometown bragging rights will surely be his. As for Rey, the pin can only help his momentum heading into No Mercy, even though Chavo was pulled out of harms way by Vickie, who has shown in the last two weeks that she has the ringside savvy to pay huge dividends as a business partner.

The other can’t-miss match at No Mercy will be Mr. Kennedy’s contest with the legendary Undertaker, who last week spooked Mr. Kennedy as the outspoken Superstar attempted to bow out of the contest. This week, Mr. Kennedy had a new message for The Deadman.

“On Sunday, you will find out that the decade and a half of destruction is over. The future has arrived, the future is here and the future is Mr. Kennedy,” said a seemingly refocused and deadly serious Mr. Kennedy (Watch). The man from Green Bay vowed to pin The Phenom at No Mercy, but is the future more grim than he hopes?

MVP would like the world to think that he, too, is a phenom, and he delivered that message in his first public appearance since signing on as a member of the SmackDown roster. In his statement, he boasted, “MVP is the greatest athlete in history, and history will be made this Sunday at No Mercy. Nobody is ready for the debut of MVP.” (Watch) A lofty statement from a man who has yet to step into a WWE ring, especially considering nobody has any idea who he will face in his match. Who will it be, and will MVP deliver on his bold prediction?
