The circles on the select screen piss me off and the in-game art looks iffy, but I love the roster shake-ups. Terry and Duck King on the same team!!! That makes up for every other shortcoming in my mind.

I just realized this, but I think Hiroaki's character artwork seems to have been thought of as being a team illustration rather than a single character illustration. The Ikari Team, for example, has Ralf and Clark back to back in similar poses, both the Fatal Fury Team and the Benimaru/Duolon/Elizabeth team have a central character and one character leaning towards each side, the Psycho Soldier team has Athena in the middle and Momoko and Kensou to the sides in similar poses, etc, etc.

I don't think it's ever been handled like that before. Hiroaki is the man. :buttrock:

Apart from Hiroaki's GREAT art, this game looks like totally bland and ass to me. Character selection is poor to say the least and begin with. Select screen and general in-game mask is horrible. I'd rather play any other real NeoGeo chapter instead of this freaking frankestein monster. So sad.

I check the picture in the official site, and i guess your right. Actually all teams has a leading character storyline wise. I think i get the picture about upcoming team stories. Malin invites/tricks/convince eiji and kasumi to join her. Vanessa ask for help from blue mary to investigate.
Terry loses joe and b. jenet gets tizoc, so he ask kim and duck king to join. Elizabeth helps (or tricks?) them for finding ron, and forms a team with benimaru and duo lon ( i guess they want duo lon as a good guy) [And i have a crazy idea... Can elizabeth be the girl who is in the kof 03 hero team story? Ash was talking with a girl who seems to know ash.]
Kyo, Ash and K' are the main guys of course. Ryo, Ralf And Athena are the team leaders no wonder but its a surprise for me that b.jenet finds gato and tizoc and convinces them.

These are my pure opinion i am not insisting these thoughts to be true.

What's with those BG's??

NO character whatsoever, just look like random village shots from somewhere as boring as Germany.

I'ts been handled like that a lot. Shinkiro's character artworks from KOF '94, '95, '96, '97, '98 are all like that, with the teammate characters relating to each other.

Looks acceptable, I suppose, but they could've made the bgs more lively.

Duo is in there... ugh...

Ah well, the roster seems okay to me, haven't made up my mind about the backs/general artwork yet, the pics simply are too small to comment on.

At least the charas don't look as sick and twisted as in 2k1 or NW.

So, if KoF NW is the AW adaption of KoF2k2, is XI going to be the AW version of 2k3?

I hope not... liked 2k3 a lot at first, but compared to 2k2 or NW, it feels a bit unresponsive... can't put my finger on it...

No it's the true sequel to 2003 though. This is the actual next installment.

I know, I'm referring to gameplay/engines in this case. NW runs on a drastically enhanced/modified 2k2 engine, and given that Ash, Duo and a few other 2k3 faces will be in XI, I guess they'll re-use some elements of 2k3's engine.

Ah well, let's see.

From personal experience I'd say that KOF2K3 doesn't feel as tight as previous KOFs. Having played that one the other day and then playing KOf2K1 straigh after it's highly noticable that KOF2K1 comes of as the tighter game overall where as although 2K3 isn't bad the tightness in the combos is not as high as that of 2K1, etc. I think this is what you are concerned about, Takumaji?

I don't really remember much info about it from the loke tests threads, but I think beelze said it plays like a different engine.

I love the clarity of the selection screen, but don't care much for the art stile. same with 2k3. plus I have to admit that the blur effect on the graphics - atleast from the images - is horrid.

I like the circle motif, but there's something missing on the lower half of the screen to tie all the character portaits together. They look like they're just thrown down there.
