how and why did the "mods" become mods...

i was wondering how and why bobak, ew and the others became mods.... any cool stories?

Moreover where are most of the mods, Mouse_Master shows every once in a while, NeoMike is basically gone, same with Dolphin_Lord.

Biomotor_Unitron seems to come in and out. RyoGeo seems like I haven't seen him in a while.

That leaves us with EvilWasabi and Bobak?

Then Shawn as admin.

Plus NeoGumby...not sure who that is but its an admin.

I'm pretty sure that it involved hanging upside down, killing a buffalo with your bare hands, and strapping a large weight to your penis. Other than that I'd just be shooting in the dark.

All of the original mods + Shawn were members at Dolphinlord's Yahoo club years ago when it was the most active Neo message board. I'm sure one of the mods can give you more info but I remember Shawn looking for volunteers there to help get this site going.

Skipping the details, but the original Mods were picked, as Twalden correctly noted, from the more active and reasonable people over on DolphinLord's board.

The original five mods were:
- Mouse_Master
- DolphinLord
- Geddon_jt
- nick_th_fury
- JMKurtz (tech only)

Nick decided to "retire" and then I was invited. We've had many others between and since.

Has it ever been discussed that a democratic election, by all the members of NG.com be made to elect new mods, as opposed to Shawn and the mods deciding on who should be?

To expand a little on EW's description, the eggs coloration also had to do with the individual powers of each mod. No two mods have the same powers -sort of like the Planeteers, with neojuzam as Captain Planet -only the entire thing is far less wussy.

For example:
Mouse_Master has the powers of "Webmaster"
DolphinLord has the power of the "War Room" (though, due to his tight schedule, the War Room became managed by all mods)
D-Lite has the power of "Pocket"
Neo Mike has the power of "Creative"
JM Kurtz has the power of "Technology"
Tiptonium has the power of "Flash"
FTL has the power of "Int'l"
EW has the power of "Sheer Quantity" and "The Dark Realm".
I have the power of "Editorials" which I am clearly shying away from these days
Biomotor_Unitron has the power of "Sharp Wit"
RyoGyo has the power of... um... "Dependability"
etc...

Yeah, but he wasn't an original mod, nor is he one now (which were the only ones I listed)

He was the kingpin of team "fiasco" which couldn't get the job done during the merger.

I was given temporary Mod powers one night during a spam assault. I helped clean the place up, was given co-dominion over the War Room with DolphinLord, and was later upgraded to Universal Mod. From that point onward, for the next couple of years, I was pretty much the only full time Mod, as I was able to monitor the place from work and home. I had a much lower tolerance for stupidity, and would ban people based on their very first post if they showed a staggering lack of intellect.
