Yes,it is truely sad,at 92,he died of Altziemers(sorry spelling). He was a great US president,we should have more like him :crying: .He was a good guy
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY :buttrock:
Thank God that I don't get Air America radio in my area, because I'm certain that Al Franken and Janine Garafolao (sp?) would dance on his graves. I hope they burn in hell with Nesagwa. :very_ang: :very_ang: :very_ang: :blow_top: :blow_top: :blow_top:Quote:

ronald reagan really didn't do much good for this country. he was a good man, but a not so good president.
I don't wish for anyone's death but it's hard to get upset when a 92 year-old dies. Even before the Altziemers (I can't spell it, either) he had a full, long life. I hate to break it to you, but we're all going to die. Many of us won't make it to 92.
Dude, it's not sad. What's sad is the fact that he spent the last part of his life not remembering things he had done, and towards the end he couldn't even remember his own fucking wife. Personally, if it were me I would have wanted to die long before that heppened. I mean, seriously, what's the point of living if you die not even remembering what you've done? At least he is someone that will be remembered by others for something.
92 years... that's one HELL of a long ride for people. He had to go sometime.
What are you talking about? Not to get intu a huge debate, but what about the Regan Era? It grew to be one of the biggest peace time expansions in us history. The Reagan Era was a time in which every income quintile saw gains in overall wealth and income, a time in which the middle class gained the most and our economy grew by a third. He also was part of us winning the Cold War. :oh_no:
This is in response to Nsh's post, sorry the other 2 guys posted before i got to say something.
so true. i think he was the last honest republican president....Quote:

In rare cases some people gets Alzheimers as early as in their 40s. Anyway, he probably forgot about his wife *long* ago. Its not uncommon to loose your language in the last stages.Quote:

As for Reagan, sure it was the largest economic growth seen during peacetime, but it was in exhange for the largest deficits in US history. His administration single-handedly created a national debt that tripled what existed before he took office. You, me, and all other taxpaying citizens are now left with the burden of paying it off...which is going to last until long after any of us dies.
I'm not going to celebrate his death, but I do think that a great number of people greatly overestimate how good a president he was.
Actually a small correction...he was 93...the oldest living president in history though I wouldn't really call the last 10 years of his life 'living' :crying:
My condolences to the Reagan Family :(
i was going to bring this up. in summarize, the cold war didn't really end because of reagan. it just ended while reagan was in office.Quote:

A sad day indeed. He will be missed. My prayers go out to his family. He was the last of a dying breed of honorable and respectable men. He will be sorely missed.
If anybody is keeping score there are four living ex-presidents: George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and the one that has a book coming out later this month, forgot his name... oh, Clinton! Bubba! :)
Just saw a clip of the speech Regan did after the Challenger blew up, man that was moving...
My money's on Ford.
Let teh betting begin!
If anybody's going to put a death pool on the remaning ex-presidents, Ford and/or Carter have to be in their eighties, Bush 41 is in his late seventies and Clinton is in his late fifties. In all honesty, I can't say who will die first: they all look healthy to me. :)Quote:

I remember this. It was a few years ago.Quote:

Geez something just clicked
Anyone remember that video "Land of Confusion"?
Nothing but super ugly puppets
Made to poke fun at Reagan.

A bunch of yellow flowers next to an American flag are pictured across from the entrance to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California after the death of former United States president Ronald Reagan, June 5, 2004.
President Reagan, thank you for your service to our great nation and the world. God rest your soul.

Whoa, where'd that emoticon come from?? :buttrock:
I saw the pop-up video on that video. It was Genesis, right? (not the Sega system, Phil Collins...)Quote:

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing. I only get this. :crying:Quote:

The only thing funny about it was when SD Reagan was running around in a Superman costume.
Now when Carter dies, that will be a sad day for me. He was a pretty crap President, but he's accomplished more good since he's become an ex-President than just about any President has managed to do while in office.Quote:

I hope Reagan gets a good sendoff as the American hero he is.

Sad times, and I was just talking to someone yesterday about going to visit the Presidential Library.
RIP the best president this country has ever seen.
Nixon died again!?Quote:

I was pretty suprised to hear Reagan dying all of the sudden. I honestly thought he might be around a little bit longer.
It affects me a bit more (IMO) than you guys, I guess. My dad used to be stationed at Andrew AFB, about 30 minutes from DC. We used to go out to see the President get on Air Force One. Every time, right before he went all the way in, he would turn around and wave to us. Also, the same day George HW Bush was getting inaugurated, I was at Ronald Reagan's send off at the airport. Remember waiting there for at least two hours before he showed up but, despite this, I remember him giving a short but memorable speech.
Now that he's gone, it's just like one small part of my childhood is now gone, as well. Things like Reagan remind me of a simpler time in my life where the only thing I cared about was playing Gameboy and going to the arcade to play TMNT and Neo Geo. That arcade at the base kicked ass! I hope one day I go back to see it again...
But, anyway, very sad to see Reagan go...and, in such a horrible, painful way. He definitely was the best president during my lifetime. I think many of you will agree with me there.
Jon
Good man, a funny person (which I consider a high compliment), though I have very little agreement in his politics.
I found out a few days ago while on vacation, I felt relieved for his family. No one deserves to go out that way. Feel the same way about Chalton Heston (who I believe also has Alzheimer's).
I'm relieved he's able to finally go. Like major newspapers, the History Channel had already put together an obituary piece which they showed on Saturday night -very saddening, especially when they covered of his last appearences with friends. Even though they hadn't seen him in the years his affliction was at its worst, you could sense what it must have been like. I still remember one of the last quotes by a family friend [it helps to know that Pres. Reagan loved horseback riding a lot]:
"I went into [Reagan's] study and he didn't look up at me. He was reading a book, big type, and he was following the sentence very closely -it ended with a picture of a horse. I asked him, 'Ronald, what are you reading?' He paused, then he said, 'A horse.'"
I was one of the most touching/sad things I've ever heard. Considering that was apparently five years ago, I feel better for him.
All major news sources "prep" obits for famous people that are in their later, usually less productive years.Quote:

I don't like Reagan's politics a lot either, but I think some of you aren't giving him enough credit for his foreign policy. Of course he didn't single-handedly bring the cold war to a close. But read about what he did do and tell me it wasn't admirable. Tell me it didn't put the US on good terms with Russia...
I don't think a thread mourning someone's death is the proper place to debate a man's politics, but some of the things they credit him with aren't quite the way things looked when he was doing them. I will say this, though: although I didn't agree with much of his politics, it was hard to question his sincerity, unlike a lot of other Presidents. Now whether this was due to Ronnie the actor or Ronnie the man, is impossible to say. But once he left office, I ceased to have anything against him, and am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.Quote:
