You make a very interesting point about how the atomic bomb ending the war saved at least a million people. I've heard many WWII veterans say the exact same thing. This isn't a conservative vs. liberal issue, though...just a matter of opinion.

The arrival of FDR is something interesting. Before his time, it was the Republicans pushing for more government involvement. However, after FDR, you see a complete reversal in roles. I find this very interesting and, it would not surprise me if such a thing happened again.

I do like Truman, thouugh, and I commonly agree with my far left History teacher on modern day politics. ill also state the all media is spun, and I admit, I was being kind of general when I say liberals dont listen... Had the bomb not been dropped and an allied invasion of Japan occured it was estimated there would be some 250,000+ US dead. US forces alone would have numbered at least one millions over the course of the assault, and thats just the combat troops.

Japanese casualties for the assault were estimated to be 1 million+.

Seeing that this is a messageboard, I don't see how that is poor grammar. My style on here is often meant to more closely imitate a conversation than an essay would. There is no problem in understanding my meaning. Using the wrong "there" on an online forum is completely different. It changes the meaning of the sentences in ways not intended. I am sorry if you don't see the difference, but in that case it's just a matter of opinion, not a matter of me being wrong. My opinion is that using the wrong word over and over is a lot worse than omitting punctuation here and there and making a few typos.

Oh, and yes, I can't read galfordo's posts. But once again, just because I think he tries to read up on and argue for his sides from a more educated standpoint doesn't mean I think he's right or that he ALWAYS comes up with good points...

No matter how conversational you try to be, written language relies on spelling to convey meaning most of the time. The only reason I understood what he meant was because I'm capable of seeing that what he wrote only makes sense if you say it to yourself and change the words in your head. You do not have to do the same thing to understand what I said. I can't jump into your brain and see how you read things, but for me it takes a little longer to read it when someone uses the wrong word. I have to read it and go back and read it again and say it to myself, etc.

It would be different, though, if in his fragments and run-ons and such there were all kinds of words that didn't fit and if in his CD lyric books he mispelled words and used the wrong "there" and "your" all over the place.

In Canada we have 3 parties. Conservative, Liberal and NDP. I'm a socialist so I vote NDP. Fucking Liberals and Conservatives are all the same.

Moose...republicans are very quiet about their relationship with lincoln. You seem to be forgetting (or in reality you didn't know) that Lincoln was a Federalist who fought to strengthen the central government and exerted an immense amount of power as commander in chief. By unifying the US, he all but removed any remaining independence the states had from the fed...how is that conservative? Also, abolishing slavery was (at the time) NOT in any way shape or form conservative.

Also, until recently, Democrats have fought nearly ALL of the major wars this country has waged in the past 100 years. Wilson (Democrat, but not liberal) ww1, FDR ww2 , Truman ww2 and Korea, Kennedy (with a lot of help from Ike, who was also quite liberal at the time) bay of pigs and vietnam, and Johnson vietnam. Clinton bombed Iraq, Bosnia, and gave the CIA the task of assassinating Usama bin Laden.

Do your homework instead of making stupid bait claims on internet forums. Go back to watching spongebob.

You're making an emotional appeal, but that doesn't really help your case from a logical standpoint. In terms of loss of life, I think that dropping the bomb(s) was clearly the better choice. In terms of misery caused, however, you could certainly make a strong case that it was the less humane choice.
