I played some of it at EB, and it seems so far to be an amazing shooter. So those of you who haven't imported, go steal this game for $29.99. Tons of unlockables and customizable ships give this thing a lot of replay value, and the notorious R-Type difficulty is there. Just ignore the Fresh Games yellow border if you can.
I went to local EB today at around 1 pm, got the last copy in store, this will be bound to be one of the rarest and most expensive PS2 in the next few years.
A couple of months ago, I passed by the IREM head office while I was riding the train.
It was just this dingy little building... I was really let down.
They had a big IREM sign on the roof though.
It's kind of sad, really. No more R-Type games. It's not like there were many in recent years, mostly only ports. The possibility of no more R-Type games is depressing. At least they went out with a bang though.

Thanks for the heads up. I really hope it's on a DVD disk. Anyway, looks like something I better check out before it disappears. I'm always getting stuff that are potential gems that may get low sales but end up being high demanded software in the future.
Well, I do miss a few things, here and there. But I try not to. It's a shooter, and if it kicks butt, I'm there.

About the game- I got it. I chugged down to the Santa Anita Racetrack mall and traded some games for it.

Just got my copy today. Sad that I was the only preorder at Gamestop.
Love it so far. Made it to stage 2 midboss, fucking hard as all hell. But I wouldn't have it any other way. The ships so far seem unique and have their own style to them which I like. Weapons are cool, I've always liked how R Type is a thinking man's shooter, giving you so many different ways to use your guns.
AI mode is not what I expected, but its still cool. Kinda reminds me of Carnage heart, although I'm not sure why.
Anyway, go buy it now. This is the best shooter to come along in a while, at least since Ikaruga. Can't wait to see what Gradius V has in store as well.

It'll proberbly be 60Hz, a hell of alot of Pal PS2 games are now. Out of the last 5 PS2 games i have bought only 1 has'nt had a 60hz option. Even Capcom are getting there asses into gear aswell!Quote:

Edit btw my PS2 is my only Pal system & there are'nt enough good Jap/US only games on it to warrant me getting it chipped. And games like Contra, Breath Of Fire and GGXX are all 60Hz. Buying NTSC only is'nt an elitest thing anymore the DC proved this with all its games being 60Hz.

Just snagged a copy at EB. The local gamestop said they weren't even going to carry it because it would be wasted shelf space :oh_no:

Fresh games is a US videogame licencee company that buys the right to publish Japanese games on the American market , just like Working Designs does . I got the import, might have to pick up the US version too for such a low price.
A little birdy told me that there will only be approximatly 60 ships available (as opposed to the origional 100) for the US version due to some kind of IP thing. Untill I have confirmed that this is false I will wait and possibly pick up the import instead. But I really want to support this in the US.
Well, Ive played this game for 9 hours straight so far, have beaten it 5 times over and must say it is amazing and you better go get it right now.
There are 99 ships to be unlocked for sure, There are 99 open spots in the R ship museum. As well as it saying on the case "Over 100 ships" So that means theres prolly 101 ships in total, 2 being super secret (the Image fight and X multiply ships)
There are also 165 different weapon combinations.
This game truly is the best shooter Ive played to date and supplies an ample need of history to the r type series, as well as many of the other unheard of IREM classics.
I've heard the music in the US version is changed from the japanese version. Can anyone confirm that?

Hells yeah. Apparently Irem really pulled out all the stops in ensuring this game ends the series with a massive bang, and I think every gamer worth his/her slat should go out and grab it. I'm currently lacking a PS2 but I'll pick this sucker up anyway and play it at friends' homes 'til I manage to buy everything else I need right now (bed, TV, furniture, etc.)

I'm picking up my r-type today. Too bad it's one of the last of a dying breed.:crying: I doubt gradius will be much better, but I'm still looking forward to it. Gradius 4 is one of the hardest shooters ever, r-type 3 is ridiculous too. :mad:
