I realize I have to active threads in the top ten topics right now, so this will be my last one for a while.
But I am just wondering how happy modded Xbox owners are with their purchase. Are the emulators available for it high quality?
I am really thinking about modding one, but I'm not quite sure.

Well i sold all my nes, snes, genesis games like 6 months ago. Im happy to get all those systems into a xbox; and yes they all run great. Space saver too.:buttrock:

i can sit in front of my tv and play cadillacs and dinosaurs, willow, cadash, etc.
cant do that with my ps2.
i can play better versions of multi platform games like metal arms (ive played both, xbox is considerably superior).

about even on that point.
i have both becoz i dont want to miss out on platform exclusives but if i was FORCED to choose my ps2 would be gone..
which is a total turn around coz i didnt play any xbox up until a month or two ago...

It's a wonderful thing, having thousands upon thousands of games all on one system. Hell, I thought it was worth it when I got the mod over a year ago, when just the NES, SNES and Mame-X emus were available. Now there's almost 20 different systems. But now that I can play Paper Mario on my Xbox, I really don't see things getting any better, emulation wise, on the Xbox.
Where's my Xbox 2 (Next, or whatever)?
I say it is really worth it, but take care you can do most of that stuf with your PC as well. But Xbox has some advantages.

i had no interest in buying a next gen console. Indeed the last console i bought was dreamcast in 1999. Than 2 weeks ago i saw a modded X Box and was blown away. I saw all the neo geo games run seemingly perfectly. I offered the guy who owned the machine $400 on the spot for it. He refused. I went home and to my pleasant suprise saw 2 modded x boxes in the local loot paper. I bought one that day for $350. It had 50 backed up games. 35 neo geo games, and 300 mame titles, and snes and gameboy advance shit.
To be able to play an arcade perfect version of operation wolf at home was astonishing. Its like one of my favourite games ever. So in answer yep the xbox modded is amazing, even my non gamer friends have been all over it
This is getting too tempting. I'd have done this a long time ago, but I wanted to get around to using Xbox Live sooner or later. If I would be able to get my Xbox modified with a switch to turn the mod off, that would be incredible.
I guess I have a few questions, then.
1.) What chips would you recommend/warn against?
2.) Does the chip interfere with anything besides Xbox Live?
3.) How much would a good modchip cost? How about installation?
4.) Where can I purchase a modchip from/ send my system to in order to get it modified (preferably the same place)?
5.) Are most chips flash-upgradable (or something like that), so I won't get burned when a new copy-protection scheme comes out?

All of these, however PSX is done by ripping .iso to the harddrive.. I'm not farmiliar with the other 2, but they have emusQuote:

The menus are completley up to you. There are many "skins" sites to change the appearence of Evolution X and MXM (media x menu) These are the more popular dashboards.Quote:

I'm really interested in getting a box now. I checked into this stuff a good while back and read around that alot of the cool MAME roms that I like weren't working well or at all, has this changed since I last checked. Do all games work now? If they do, thats great!! What would you say is the ratio of working titles? Is there a specific list that shows roms that work/don't work? TIA

Edit: BTW, how are you getting these files to your Xbox? DVD-Rs? Millions of CD-Rs? I've also heard something about FTPing. So how is it done?
xbox in any form isnt worth it. xbox games arent even good enough to be worth stealing, much less buying.
If all you want is to play old games, just buy the systems off ebay.
Playing games on the real system > crapbox emulation.

I disagree. While the Xbox may not have a ton of exclusive games, some of the ones it does have are great. And most of the multi-platform ports are much better on Xbox, take Soul Calibur 2 for example. It's the best looking version out of all three. Have you seen Prince of Persia in 480p? The Xbox version is breathtaking.Quote:

Xbox Live, plus awesome online games like PGR2, Crimson Skies, Counter Strike, Phantasy Star Online, Top Spin and Amped 2 equal hours of great play time.
On top of that, you can add emulators which allow you access to entire libraries of older games with near perfect emulation. The space one saves alone is a great benefit. Imagine having to hunt down and store an entire NES, SNES and Genesis library. Sorry, I'd rather do it this way.
That isn't to say I won't still buy games for those emulated systems, I just won't feel the pressure to do it as often. I'll only need to buy the games I truly want to have in my collection, everything else can be stored on the Box.
I think the big part of it is that psx isos have to be made very specifically or they won't run right at all. I've made 2 bum isos that played like complete ass and my friend sent me one that he downloaded that played smooth as butter, and shot me a link how how to grab them correctly.Quote:

I thought i would be more into the emulators, but i found i just didnt care for it, and searched ebay and the local used game shops for the old game carts even if i had the ROM. Playing the games on the original system is just more enjoyable to me than emulation, regardless of how perfect it may be.
I'm not bashing this whole Xbox emulation deal one way or the other, but what happened to everyone who despised roms and the people who use them? Why is it suddenly OK to go rom crazy on the Xbox? I'm just curious...
Most people despise roms of the newer games. Even then, those people are limited. This isn't a rom-hating site per se, just don't give out links to the newer stuff or Neo games in general.Quote:

Anyway, I put in a little more time into my Xbox and decided to take the PC Engine for a run with Dracula X. Needless to say, my jaw hit the floor. I never played this version, and was always baffled by why people would hate on the SNES port. Now I can see their point of view. God I can't wait until my work-weekend. I'm going to have a blast.
A note on the whole xbox mod and live issue. Xbox live is designed to recognize a modified xbox bios (i.e. mod bios like xecuter) not the modchip itself. Case in point, my friend tried to mod his own system while I was on vacation and jacked up the original bios on his xbox, so it no longer boots without a mod. I got back added the mod and split the 1mb bios into 2 512k bios one original m$ and the modified xecuter bios. The mod is always on, just switches between bios' and it has 120gb HD loaded with stuff in it as well. He uses xbox live everyday without any problems.

i love my ps2 as well of course.. its been good to me over the last 3 years..
If I didn't have a modern, "cutting edge" PC with a huge display, I might be able to see the appeal behind a modded xbox insofar as emulation duties are concerned. However, if I were going to go "all out" on a media box for a conventional, television-based entertainment setup, I'd probably build a HTPC using a shuttle barebones system and just skip the xbox foolery entirely.
well i was someone who had never downloaded a rom in his life. or played one. Why?? cos I was too stupid to know how to do it.
I mean its stands to reason. Ive been here 3 years and i still dont know how to use the quote method in a post.
I dont feel any guilt, Ive been playing capcom and SNk games for almost 20years, Ive had 98 mvs carts at one time and 76 aes carts, ive loaded machines with quarters and ive religously bought street fighter 2 games for every console.
I see the whole X Box rom thing as a reward for all my endeavours.
as a disclaimer, something about snk v capcom and slug 5 doesnt seem right on the rom version. Ive never owned these carts, but will definetly buy them sometime in the future so i can play the real thing.
You can use cd-r, or dvd-r to copy files to your xbox using BoxExplorer. But FTP is alot faster. You'll also save cds this way. This done by connecting your pc and xbox through a ethernet cable. Use a FTP application to transfer files over.Quote:
