NCS is making a pretty penny on those white XBoxes. If you're in Japan you get one of those, the DVD kit, the Live starter kit, and any 20 letter message inscribed for 19800 JPY. In fact, if you buy a regular Box in Japan, you get all that shit plus Halo and PGR2 for 19800. If that's not a deal, I don't know what is.

Funny. Ikaruga is old. Came out on the DC a long time ago, so no big reason to get a GC. Plus, it isn't one of the best shooters I've played, by a longshot. There are tons of better shooters.Quote:

Best hardware design, absolutely. MS went to game developers and asked them what they wanted in a console, in terms of features, then went BACK and designed one to include their desires. Thats a hell of a lot more than Nintendo or Sony EVER did . . . and it shows in the final product.

first of all, gamecube could not run halo, I think bungie already said that, and it was a launch title. i also don't think the cube would run DOA3, another launch title, or Ninja Gaiden.
and the majority of the good cube games besides the nintendo stuff (which is half re-hash, half average) or the resident evil games/viewtiful joe, are surprise, dreamcast ports. the N64 had a better library i'm sad to say.
and all the shit xbox is getting in 2004, it's just silly.

I ordered a couple of each of those X Boxes last week in Taiwan and yes I know I'm getting raped for what I paid for them, but as far as the next gen systems go I'll gladly admit I'm an X Box fan boy.

I like the Xbox's design. The controller could use some work, but I'm happy enough with the Controller S. I actually prefer it to the Duel Shock.
Now if only the Xbox could get as many good games as the PS2 has.

I have an Xbox, and I love it's graphics and some of it's games (only japanese releases), but it was TERRIBLY designed, that is a fact.

However, it's still crap.
PC processors contain tons of code that is absolutely useless for a console. A PC is like a swiss army knife: they're nice and all, but a solo knife/screwdriver/wine opener is always better. Take away those extra features form a PC, and you have something much like a swiss army knife without the other features.
If Microsoft had put some actual DEV into their system, they could have made a PC-similar platform that would have been much cheaper to produce, and still as powerful, but all they cared about was jamming in top-of-the-line PC components. With a PC-like lineup, it's already been passed by PC's,and lacks sa monitors high res.
In terms of actual engineering: they hardly bothered to do any. sony's POS2 had much better actual engineering behind it.

Some teams give nice results with such small VRAM, take for example Silent Hill2/3... it's all in the 48Gb/s bandwidth.

I will agree that the PS2 has some fantastic games. I did finally break down and buy one about a year ago, when the price finally dropped to 199. However, I haven't yet seen a single game that makes the GC worth buying.
