Have to go with J.C. cause he's the only one! No one but the son of GOD could have had that type of dexterity/paitence/love/forgiveness/power. J.C. is the ulitmate revolutionary and is the only way onto the father. Because of his sacrifice are we saved by grace. .. those of us who accept and believe in him... for no good deeds are enough. Why anyone would worship Satan is beyond me, unless the idea of an eternal Sauna in torment is your thing. Though I got a laugh out of the "General ZOD" thing.

Obviously, I'll need to point back to the title, which specifies the phrase "religious icon" - not really god in specific.

Anyhow, if things get out of hand, I can always move this thread somewhere else.

I went to a Christian private Jr. High School and everytime there was an earthquake or a fire drill- invariably one or more of the really, really religious kids would make some comment about how this may finally be the rapture. They'd get all happy too.

honestly though. iconographically speaking.
i always thought catholosism was curious, having such strong
iconography such as the virgin mary and jesus
while christianity teaches against idolotry and to a lesser extent
that of iconography imo.
but then theres fun trivia about all the major religions to revel in.

Mooky, why Baphomet in particular? Of all hell's generals, why him? His only claim to fame was through the Templars, and appearing to humans as goat headed.

I figure in terms of the demons out there, Baphomet pretty much sucked, because he's not referenced in the Talmud. He's not even a confirmed demon.

I love demonology. So much more fleshed out and exciting than the history of angels.

As for me, my favorite demon is Lilith. Mythology has it that she was the first woman god created for Adam, but she refuse to be subservient to Adam. Because she never ate of the apple of knowledge, she wasn't included in the sentencing that left Adam and Eve mortal. She ended up going off with Satan as his most beloved bride.

Voted for Zoroaster. When I clicked on the topic I was all like, "Man, I hope Zoroaster's listed."


Though... I do love the programming of the Hail Satan network.

I've met a lot of people that talk a lot about God and Jesus or Mohammad, and yet they do the darnedest things. I mean, morally wrong on a pan-societal scale things.

I don't think Mohammad offers anything good though. Jesus on the other hand I can promote simply by his teaching alone. I think they are right for helping people live toward a peaceful world in his time. Things are more complicated now.

I feel bad though, realizing that I forgot to add Moses, David, and Adam. I feel like I unintentionally slapped some people in the face by limitting their options.

But I agree, I heard that some southern preacher was preaching with bible in one hand and gun in the other, it was very ironic. Some British photographer traveled the United States to study the fascination with gun culture and amassed quite an amazing collection of photographs.

I think I just like the idea of what He stands for. Self enlightenment, tolerance of hardship, etc.

Not that J's message is lesser, but I think Buddhist teachings are less . . . strayed, shall we say. There are a lot of "Christians" out there that really don't follow the idea of the teachings too well.

That, and I really like the idea of looking within to find improvement rather than asking some amorphous spirit to spell it out for me or simply make it happen. Sadly, I think the latter interpretations are based more in the bastardization of Biblical teachings than the word, but that's what brings me back to Buddha anyway.

The message from our sitting friend is to me more pure and, in a way, closer to the source, so to speak. Too many people have had a hand in re-writing the Bible. To even read it in English and take things too literally is to base one's entire belief system on a paraphrased document. To me, that just seems like a really bad idea.

You really should add "myself" for those Randlicking Objectivists.

If I were a religious man, I'd go for Zoroaster/Mithra....
