The gore was too comical.
I thought the Anime sequence was tops.
The dialogue, was not on par with Pulp Fiction and Resevoir Dogs.
The Action was trump tight, too bad I heard people laughing with the blood squirting, kinda ruins the mood.
Storytelling was all Tarantino.
Some of the music was good (nice 70's feel), while some of it was like (what the hell?)
Overall I think its good, and I'm looking forward to Vol 2.
Pulp Fiction it is not.
that movie was too fucking hardcore for its own damn self.
basically that pretty much sums it up. after the first 30 minutes or so i thought i was gonna be let down but then it all came together and it rocked my fucking world. i hate myself for liking something that is gonna be so mainstream.
the anime sequence was wierd and out of place. would have been much cooler with a live action flashback.
pulp fiction ownz it but that doesnt matter. as a samurai shodown fan there is nothing better.
that's why the title is Kill Bill vol.1, not Pulp Fiction 2:smirk:Quote:

yes, but a lot of moviegoers were wondering, "Will he ever top Pulp Fiction?"Quote:

I really enjoyed it. It didn't take itself too seriously. I loved the over-the-top violence and gore, the characters, the music, the style; it was like watching a live-action anime (with a small bit of real anime thrown in ;)).
You know that feeling is also mainstream. Everyones trying to go agaisnt the grain and what not. Fuck it man, you like what you like dont let some other bitch tell you different.Quote:

I don't think there's anything negative I can say about this film.
It's quite different from the other Tarantino films,I must say.
I'm so used to the heavy dialog in most Tarantino films, that the lack of it in Kill Bill felt somewhat refreshing.
The Anime sequence was a nice touch, too.
Can't wait for Vol.2...
Just got back from seeing it (sorry MN crew I got a touch of the flu). The blood was a little bit comical at times. I really don't know how you couldn't chuckle at. All in all a very good film can't wait for volume two.

I have 3 friends of which have different tastes and never agree on anything.. until we all got together and went to see Kill Bill..
we all thought it was the greatest movie ever made.
right after we saw it on saturday we went to another theatre and watched it again.. then i went yet again today with one of them to see it a 3rd time.. and when i got back home i got a call from another one of them asking if i wanted to go see it again tonight..
unfortunately, it's a tad expensive to watch movies here so i had to decline... but honestly, if i could watch that movie everyday i would.
i had given up hope on american films awhile ago, but now this.. Terantino is a god!
Great movie i loved it, when she saw the peeps she hated and then all of a sudden the loud alarm music came up and the screen turned red, that part kicked the most ass:buttrock:
PUSSY WAGON:buttrock:
"I'm Buck and i've come to F***" funny:p
I thought it was good. At times I think Tarantino tried too hard and some small parts were overly cheesey (Trix are for kids). But it was a fun movie. ***1/2 out of ****
I'm going to be very annoyed if it's true that they showed that action scene in black and white so they could get an R rating.
It was Awesome!! It was like a live action anime corny music and comical gore. Two thumbs up:buttrock:
I was going to try and see it today at the mall, until I realized it wasnt playing........
I hope they get it soon because I need a buffer for the 12 hours of lord of the rings Im putting myself through in december.
Kill Bill is the best movie I've seen since Fight Club, and Fight Club is my favorite movie evar! :buttrock:
Movie was awesome.

A lot of people get killed by swords.
I liked the music that played whenever she saw someone she wanted to kill. Like when Vivican Fox opens the front door and sees her.
Everything about this movie is super fucking sweet. What a great movie! I've been thinking about it the last few days, and cannot wait to see it again. Tuesday, I hope. :drool_2:
Spike
that music is an excerpt from 'Quincy Jones - Ironside'Quote:

This is now tied with my number one favorite movie of all time and will remain there. Simply speechless, I just got back from it and it was flawless. Not once during this whole movie did I think about Pulp Fiction or any other of his movies for that matter. Im sure I will run into someone at work or a friend who may not appreciate movies the same way I do and when they say "meh it was ok, the blood was cool", then that will be the end of that convo.
sidenote, I did get an evil grin when the thought of Samurai Shodown popped in my mind at one point for a brief minute, hehe that was nice.

How about when Uma did the "fair and square" thing, similar to Mia in Pulp Ficiton?
There were other things, but those are the ones I remember offhand.
btw, anyone here remember the ER episode QT directed?
I haven't seen it yet but someone please tell me there was a member of the Vega fmaily in the movie? If not then this movie is not a true QT movie.
I guess what I meant is this movie is so incredible I shut everythign else out of my mind no comparisons no nothing. I have never been one to watch movies and even by the same director and compare them, just dont think it should be that way unless they are supposed to be connected. I understand like trademark spotting but I have already heard or read around people who compare it to Pulp Fiction and I just feel like you cant compare movies that dont have anythign to do with another aside from trademarks. To be honest, to me anyway, its one of the movies thats so good you really cant describe it in words or talk about it. For me a truly amazing movie is a movie that leaves me speechless and I just know in my head every aspect of what I just witnessed without needing to discuss it any why its so damn good.
I mean I understand what Feelgood is saying when he said that he hates himself for liking something that will be so mainstream. Im not trying to be the hardcore/movie/art guy as I like things that are considered mainstream but you cant help when you hear people only appreciate it for obvious things. But there is no point in going there because people of all ages will understand it or like it differently for different reasons. I personally appreciate it for some much it becomes indescribable in words, now I just have to wait for part 2 and the damn DVDs. :)
One of the best movies that I've seen this year.
I 'm looking forward to vol. 2.
I also liked the alarm music that played when
she spotted her targets. :buttrock:
saw it
liked it
cant wait for part2

Goro Daimon
Hattori Hanzo
some of these lovely names pop up in the movie.
and in the animated part, bill looked madd pimp.
Heh, found a funny link about the movie:
Kill Bill: Satanic Fetishism by Disney
:)
well it tries to be a little like pulp fiction with the story jumbled up a littleQuote:

remember she goes after number 2 on her list first then it flashes back to number 1 later
very cryptic but if you have seen it you will understand
The reason why the movie was not in order was not because it was a QT movie, an he was doing something along the lines of pulp fiction, it was because of the message the Samurai gave to Uma in Okinawa, "Vengance is never a straight line, it is like a forest and when you enter in is easy to get lost and forget why you had entered in the first place," ok I know this is not a direct quote, but its something along those lines. He was telling her that it is not point a to b and thats the way QT split up the sceens. BTW I think the crew that did the anime sequence was the same people that did Blood:The Last Vampire and Koh(i forget the rest of the title), can anyone else confirm this??

I must say I loved the end sequence, and that final line was really a nice way to leave a cliffhanger

it's a storytelling style moreso than the actual story. like apples and oranges. made by the same farmer.
kind of like Memento and Following, both made by the same director (nolan). thematically different, but both jump around with the flashbacks (though memento is more structured point a to b, point b to a- Following just jumps around for no real reason other than it makes you think)
Aranofsky, has his own style too, mainly visual/editing. Pi, Requiem for a Dream...it uses the exact same editing/visual style, but its a completely different product.
Production IG. they showed it in the credits.Quote:

Yeah... Bill's the dad... or so it was said two times in the movie... Well same scene, but shown twice.
"Bill, it's your ba...."
And with Bill saying that her baby is still alive... could he be using her child against her in part 2? Since, he has had the child for 10 years... has he turned it into some kind of killing machine ;) Now that would be up my alley...
-Nick
It was no Pulp Fiction - not saying it tried to be, but I saw that in the theater also, and this just didn't strike the same chord with me. I think it would have been better if he didn't split it up.
SPOILERS MAYBE:
There were many things I liked about it, but I thought the anime part was crappy and switching the end battle to black-and-white was a fucking rip off, I'll be excited to get the DVD so we can see what it was going to be like in color before he changed it, and Lucy Liu is a shitty actress! :oh_no:
On a positive I thought the music was great, Gogo was awesome, it was cool to see Sonny Chiba, uh there was some damn nice camera work and beautiful shots, oh well I just felt like bitching about it. Maybe I'll like it more with repeated viewings.
I also think that he showed Uma's 2nd revenge first, b/c cinematically speaking, that was a buildup to the more elaborate (and much longer) finale with O-ren shi. Think about it, if he arranged it in chronologically, you would have Uma taking out Fox at the end and that only lasted about 5 minutes (rather anticlimatic).Quote:

It is also very similar to the reason why Peter Jackson cut out the end of The Two Towers (if you have read the book, you know what I am talking about) and ended it the way it did b/c after the huge battle of Helms Deep, he doesn't want to have a small(er) struggle with Frodo/Sam/Gollum. (Plus, the movie is already close to 3 hours!)
***SPOILERS***
According to imdb.com, Gogo is in Kill Bill vol. 2. Either they are wrong or she's in another flashback, because she is quite obviously dead in vol. 1.
Story wise, Kill Bill doesn't compare to Pulp Fiction. But when it comes to style, Kill Bill slaughters each of Tarantino's previous films.
My particular favorite part is the use of animation for describing O-Ren's past. Absolutely mint.
Gogo Yubari- Hottest evil Japanese slut EVER.
O-ren vs. Bride Fight Scene- Top-notch samurai stuff, not much cling-clang sword fighting, slower more deliberate strikes. Great ambient sound with the little water thingy filling up and dunking in the pond.
Black and white was stupid, but used effectively (when she rips out the guys eye, it goes black and white, comes back into color when she blinks) although it didn't occur to me this might have been forced because of the blood until I saw it a second time.
No, its not Pulp Fiction, but QT has said he wasn't trying to do the same thing. This is way more style over substance, and it shows. PF is great, KB Vol. I is better.
"It appears I am the one who has penetrated you."
Like that guy actually thought that girl would have sex with him... COME ON! 60 bottle of booze or not... those teeth don't go away!Quote:

Saw it, absolutely enjoyed it, and am waiting for Vol. II. Gogo was a sick littel girl in a school uniform. lol I haven't looked at cereal the same ever since seeing the movie on Friday night. I must also commend the RZA on doing the music. To me, the ending was so abrupt, it made me blurt out "....the fuck?" everyone had a puzzled look on their faces.
"Wiggle your big....toe."
:smirk:
Best music in KILL BILL:
>>Twisted Nerve - Elle whistling
>>Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - Bride vs. O-Ren sequence
One thing I noticed that other Tarantino fans may have noticed as well was when you see the sherriff driving to the church, listen to the song on the radio right before he turns the station. It's the same song you hear when Mr. Blonde first turns on the radio in the infamous "Ear cutting" scene in Reservior Dogs. It is a song in Spanish, but I have no idea what it's called.
I was loving it when part way through, some girl behind me made a big production about walking out (during the underling harvesting scene) while her boyfriend sat through the whole rest of the picture. I got kind of nervous, but I look over and my girlfriend has a big smile on her face and she's not blinking. Actually, that's probably a little more scary. She was making that alarm noise the whole drive back.
Can't wait for the unrated DVD.
I also wanted to add for a 2 part movie it COULD NOT have ended better.
Bill is FUCKING KAIN(Kane, whatever really)!
Besides that opinion that some think, this is a kung fu movie back at its roots of kung fu movies, senseless amounts of blood spewing out of a body, fucking swords up the ass, and THE SNOW SCENE JESUS H CHRIST MAN! AWESOME FUCKING MOVIE!...oh I just finished seeing it after 15mins ago. FUCKING SWORDS MAN! NO GUNS! FING SWORDS!
Now, I feel like I am waiting for a manga title to come out cause of the Volume in the title.
Awesome movie.
Sorry for pointless swear words,
M-A-D :loco:
Great movie. Definitely Tarantino's best work since Pulp Fiction.
I was annoyed that he made it into two movies. It is obvious that the studio-heads and theater owners got what they wanted.
Hopefully, after Vol. 2 is out, he will release the unedited complete movie on one DVD set.
Sure I hate having to wait for the next vol., but it's better than Tarantino having to edit the whole story down to 2 hours to fit it into one movie.
I read somewhere that Miramax is planning on releasing Kill Bill in two volumes on DVD just like the theatrical releases.
One thing for sure though, I hope that black & white bullshit is color when it's released on DVD.
I just got back from seeing it and it was PHENOMENAL.
Tarrantino exceeded every expectation I had for this movie. The bloodfest was classic (albiet cheesy), but so were the old kung fu flicks of yore.
I can't wait for part 2... and of course Michael Madsen.

Maybe they can superimpose "the Rock" into the film to make it more to your tastes :rolleyes:Quote:
