Will buying Capcom be enough to save the flagging GameCube? (No flaming please)
Firstly, let me just say that I am the biggest Ninty fan in the whole Fucking world!
I'm not however, a console facist, I love the DC, and suprisingly (cos I thought I'd hate it) I love the X-Box.
I'm not a PS2 fan, although I had one for a year. I thought it was a sloppily designed, poorly exectuted sub-Dreamcast piece of hardware.
So, to business.
The Capcom rumour seems to be the most likley of the 'Megaton' rumours. Question is, if Nintendo Acquire Capcom, and then if they make ALL Capcom releases exclusive to Nintendo consoles, is it going to be enough to turn around their flagging fortunes?
Yeah, I know, my heart says YES!
But, I thought that having Resi would make PS2 owners go running to the ATM.
So, seeing as it didnt, will a few more Capcom titles (None as big business as Resi Evil) make any difference?
With Sony currently having over half of the entire video games market share, what will it take to make the game buying public go over to Nintendo?
I love my cube! And the thought of having exclusive Capcom titles on it is just another good reason to have it! But thats me, I like 2D fighters, and for that matter 2D shooters, the Resi series etc.
Capcom already have an almost 'retro' feel, especially with younger gamers who may not appreciate the full glory of the second dimension.
At least Nintendo will now be able to counter the 'Can't make a fighting game' critisism, thats been leveled at them so many times over the years.
But what other 'real' advantages are there to the acquisition of Capcom?
Would buying Sega have given them a more varied portfolio with a broader appeal?
Certainly, a lot of dyed-in-the-wool, Capcom loving, Nintendo haters are gonna be pissed about it!
But I find myself thinking that if the average PS2 owner is happy witht the standard of the average PS2 release, is the actual quality of games even an issue any more?
I actually think that the GC has got by far the strongest X-mas line up of triple 'A' titles!
And that has earned it around a 7% market share.
Now dont flame me, or start another console war thread. I'm genuinely interested to hear what people think about this and the whole console situation at the moment.
