Pity in europe the gamecube got hammered last month.
Xbox > 21,000 units
GC > 10,000 units
Nintendo europe looks like it will pay big time this Xmas for delaying Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 0 till March 2003.

you cant use those games as an excuse
its selling well in Japan because of a completely differnet game
metroid isnt even out in japan yet
;)
-
with as much as they are selling in US and japan... europe doesn't really matter.....
if you want staggering figures... check australia lol.
GCN only hae 1152 or something close to that.

Wow. I'm suprised to see the GC kind of catching up to the PS2s sales numbers in Japan.
I'm also suprised that Xbox sales in Japan really are STILL that bad. Wow.
Interesting figures.
-
Wow, the cube almost surpasses the PS2. But i guess the PS2 sells alot better in US and EU.
It´s a shame that there are no great games for christmas (on the cube). The have all been released a while ago or isn´t here until next year... =(
-
That is for the last week of November... check the total sales figures:
1) PlayStation 2 3.242.000
2) Game Boy Advance 2.579.700
3) GameCube 984.700
4) Xbox 282.700
Still a long way to catch the PS2...
-
BRANDI > Yeah, that was what i suspected. But it´s neat anyway. :)
-
brandi... where did you get those #'S? Just curious thats all :)

You're telling me almost 150,000 fucking people bought a GBA in a single week?
Holy shit in a handbasket...
-
yea... that has been going on for awhile. I don't know why the Ps2 is ahead in Japan... GBA has been outselling the crap out of it....

Too bad the GBA is a substandard piece of hardware, due to the horrible dark screen. Shame Nintendo didn't backlight it, obviously it could have easily been done since there are now several different backlight retrofits on the market. I guess they just cheaped out on it. Makes it overall a disappointment as far as handhelds go . . .

The real reason why they didn't do it was conflict problems. Nintendo won't do something unless they can back it up with their "seal of quality." That is why you see very few GCN problems... or other Nintendo system problems.
I hate the dark screen too.... they could have made it brighter with a different crystal screen or whatever the matter they use.

It's not that bad. Just buy a light attachment for it and that'll solve the problem. I personally just find good light and play. Besides if it was backlit, it'd be chewing up batteries like there is no tomorrow.

At least the XBOX is selling better than psone and Wonderswan that's a good sign.

You know what, I was going to let this whole system war shit go, but since you want to bring up sales numbers, I figured I'd burst your little bubble:
<a href="http://wire.ign.com/articles/380/380230p1.html" target="_blank">http://wire.ign.com/articles/380/380230p1.html</a>
Splinter Cell rose to #2 and Metroid Prime fell to #5.
GC is winning in Japan, but in the larger markets (the US and UK) it's tanking compared to the XBox. That's why overall GC is #3. :D :p

I don't care about all this hoopla anymore.
Xbox is a piece of shit, with 5 good games. And nothing interesting until 2003 [halo 2]
If you're having fun with it, I really think you're a goof. What fucking Mystery Games are you playing? Chase? Bloodwake? Buffy?
I try every xbox game to come out at my job; and they all blow ass. it is not a fun system. Every game is a 3d, un fun nightmare.
gamecube also has its LARGE share of shit. but wade through it and find games that retain the characteristics that help them be defined as GAMES. They're fun. not a chore.
i'm completely sick of the advance towards realism, or "mature" games. if i want realism ill go jog 4 miles, or take my dog for a walk. those graphics own anything. if i want "mature" games, I'll certainly stay away from the xbox and its audience of acned 19 year old PC rejects; or 40+ US males who want the most powerful system to play Madden XXXX on.

Mystery Games:
Dead or Alive 3
Mech Assault
Steel Battalion
Future Mystery games:
CvS2
MvC2
DOA: Extreme Volleyball
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Ninja Gaiden
That's about it dude, sorry if you don't like my games. If it makes you feel better I hate Splinter Cell as much as I hate Metroid, and Halo as much as I hate Animal Crossing.
BTW, what the fuck is your problem with New Jersey? I could go drop a nuke on Pheonix if you want, not that it'd make the temperature any better. Besides, nothing grows there anyway.... <img src="graemlins/shame.gif" border="0" alt="[Shame]" /> :p :D

Funny how people say that the UK and US markets are so large when they want to prove the X-Box is doing good.
But then when people want to point out how good the Nintendo is doing, they point to the fact that the GC is creaming the x-box by a country mile in Japan, and that Japan is the only country that Japanese developers really care about.
Maybe developers won't make the best games for the cube, but they will do it for the PS2. Not because the PS2 is selling good in Europe and the US, but because of Japan.
Remember that when hollywood makes a movie, the last thing they think about is how good it will do abroad. It's all domestic, and then translating it to the foreign language. The point is that games, like movies, are not made by one type of people for another type. The Japanese are thinking of what a japanese gamer would like. The fact we enjoy japanese video games is a happy coincidence, much like how Japanese people enjoy hollywood movies. But honestly, we don't care about int'l sales. Neither do they really.
Well, enjoy your american games, X-Box fans. Aklaim and EA have some awesome shit in store for you.

No, the big Japanese companies that are multi-national (Namco, Capcom, Konami, Sega, etc.) care about making the most money. Of course that's on PS2, but then the secondary support comes in. Sure the GC gets some support because it's doing better in Japan, and of course everyone (especially the Japanese) want to save fase on their home turf. However overall they're going to Microsoft with thier games.
You CAN NOT deny that the XBox has way more 3rd party support than the GC does. They care about saving face, but in buisiness, it's all about the $$! :p :D

It's quality not quantity, J...
-
I don't know whether or not the sales figures in Japan means anything when compared to world wide sales, but in all fairness, judging the X Box from Japanese sales figures is basically bullshit.
This was stated by someone else in yet another one of the mindless system war threads on here before and I'll remind everyone of this again.
JAPANESE PEOPLE SUPPORT JAPANESE PRODUCTS.
Plain and simple, end of the motherfucking story.
It doesn't matter how good the X Box is, or could be , or wished it was. It's owned by an American company and will always be fighting an uphill battle against any Japanese console in Japan.
I also really think that Microsoft is smart enough to have realized this and simply isn't to worried about it. There's still a large chunk of change to be made through out the rest of the world.
These system war threads are really getting pretty fucking retarded. I have all 3 systems and guess what. All 3 have great games. All 3 have shit games. All 3 will continue to have great and shit games released. Any body that can't see that is just being totally biased whether they want to admit it or not.
Thats my 2 cents anyways.

That is the wierdest thing I've ever heard toting a system because it's GOING to have good games. Even though it's only had 3(2 in my mind) good games in over a year. I almost said stupidest thing I've ever heard but you know what you are saying and stand behind it. I just don't understand. The games you even mention are ones
on other platforms. So in Essence you say the Xbox is the best system because it's GOING to have some games that are on other platforms with one extra feature.
Dude you scare me.

since when did the UK market matter anyway? The sales are tiny in comparison to Japan or the US, it doesn't matter a shit.
The xbox has only jumped ahead of the gc here because of the pre-christmas deals on offer anyway, which have been massively subsidised by microsoft. It's no indication of how things will pan out in the coming year.

I honestly cant remember where I read this, but I think that the-magicbox has some capcom sales figures if you go back a fiew weeks (<a href="http://www.the-magicbox.com/game111502.htm" target="_blank">Link - but DMC sales are not there</a>).
Anyway, apparenly the sales of Devil may Cry worldwide broke down something like this:-
Japan - 600,000
US - 700,000
UK/Europe - 600,000
Which means Europe/UK accounted for almost a third of DMC sales.
So that means that 1/3 of all people that played it got the shitty boarderd version - cheers capcom, at least you fixed that in Onimusha 2.
Anyway I just wanted to show that Europe and the UK are pretty big markets right now.
As for the Gamecube's sales? Dammed if I care - they have Capcom on board and making exclusive games, whereas Microsoft have some ports from them.
Whoop-de-flipping-do.
Either way I dont think either machine is going to disappear that quickly, but the Xbox may see less and less jappanese games coming out for it. Likewise the GC may see less western games.
Go with the machine with the games you like, thats always been the best way.
