Canadian Neo Party January 18th, 2003!!!

In the General Discussion thread, Parallax Abstraction has been asking about a canadian Neo get together and all interested parties agree that there may be enough canucks and border town americans who may be interested in a get-together that would also involve other systems as well.

I have agreed to host this little shindig and so far we have 4 invites confirmed (Parallax + friend, TD741 and myself).

We're not too sure on the date but it may be sometime before New Years or in late January, depending on the availability of other members.

I have two TV sets set up with various systems:

One set in a guest room has an XBOX. The living room set right next to the guest room is the central setup with the other XBOX for linking, Gamecube, PS2, Genesis, N64, Saturn and an AES.

Any and all games and systems are welcome.

We're also hoping for Saturday so we can comfortably play unitl Sunday afternoon if we feel like. Since some, like yourself, have a bit of a drive, it would be nice for the drive home to be worry and time free.

Well, I work in Mississauga. LMK what your major intersections are and I'll give you a detailed map.

Basically, just take the 401 east to Keele and head south to just past Lawrence. Depending on your exact address, about 20 minutes with no traffic.

Weel, York U is on Keele and Steeles and I'm south of that. You still have to pass Finch, Sheppard and Wilson Avenues before you hit Lawrence. Not too far, but still about 15 minutes.

Okay, I looked up the TTC website. So you'd be approximately 4 km's west from the Lawrence Avenue West subway station?

Well, add Diavle18 and Bishamon and we have a potential gathering with 8 people. If Dark Andy is interested, that makes 9.

One more and we could be in for some serious system link fun (Halo?), KOF Tournaments, NHL Hitz 2003 Tournaments, Unreal fragfests, MechAssault Madness...well, you get the idea.

Time to start setting a date, at least for the purpose of sharing a common goal so we are all in agreement.

Now, what date is good for any of you? Since I really have no schedules or time frames, any day is alright, just with enough advance notice so I could book the weekend off.

A saturday might be best for me. That'll save the Sunday and Friday for my commuting and if I come to TO with my GF we can spend some time on Sunday to do stuff in TO too and/or meet up with other friends.

Agreed, but I meant which Saturday to be more specific. We have four to chose from in January:

4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th. Which is best for everyone?

Well... I might not be able to on the 4th. I'll have our office will be coming back from a week-long shutdown and we might be a bit behind then.

I'd say the 11th, 18th and 25th will work best for me. Probably the 18th is the safest but I can work with any of them.

OK, so the 4th is out. Anyone prefer any of the other dates?

Aah, sorry Argentine, I doubt my mom would let me. We're not very social ( Try Anti ), so if I would even ask her, she would go "WTF? You got friends now?", so it's best to let it go...... :(

I have never visited anyone for other than purchasing stuff in my entire life, bar one trip 11 years ago to my Grandparents....

Sorry to hear that, Andy. I'm not sure about your situation (not too social?) but I certainly don't want to cause any trouble between you and your parents. Besides, if you're very young, it's probably not a good idea to go to the house of a 31 year old.

Of course, if it's a ride you need, I could simply pick you up and take you home at your leisure.

EDIT: Come to think of it, how old are all of the interested people? I certainly don't want to make anyone uncomfortable (or myself, to be honest.)

I'm 29, male, french-canadian that is soon-to-be-engaged.

I don't drink or smoke (but I've been around enough people who do so it doesn't bother me).

Umm... Never learned to drive since I'm so absent minded I wouldn't be able to trust myself behind the wheel of a car. :p

Please don't take offense, I just don't wish to make any teens uncomfortable as I don't normally invite people much younger than myself to my place. Besides, as a parent, it would seem rather weird to have your teen son go to some 30 years olds house.

I'm 31, married and with two daughters. My wife and kids are out of the country at present until July (which is why I'm trying to take advantage of their absence). If anyone seems uncomfortable, please let me know.

I'm 32 years old (though I've always looked young for my age), divorced but seeing someone seriously (for 1.5 years now) who has a 3 year old daughter. I drink on occasion, but don't smoke. ;)

Then you leave near the Burnhamthorpe/Hurontario intersection. You could simply access the 403 east exit off Hurontario to the 401 east exit. Take 401 east to Keele and head south to Lawrence, which is the first major intersection. I could then guide you with the finer details.

Actually, do you drive? It hadn't occured to me to ask. :o

I actually might be in Canada depending on which Saturday in the month you hold it. Don't count on me, just assume it as a possibility for now.

No, no, you misunderstand. I'm not trying to screen anyone, simply that maybe some of the younger members may feel rather intimidated or out of place with the older members. I admit to feeling rather strange having younger people at my house but with a mix of older and younger players, it wouldn't be a problem.

All I really care about is that we all try to get along since we don't know each other and that everyone feels welcome. As I said previously, the only requirement is a love of games.
