I'm trying to not think about it too much. Release can't come soon enough.
IGN's Dark Souls 2 Gameplay Reveal
I swear I watched this on youtube but I think IGN has been aggressively controlling this video claiming it is their "property." LOL, anyway worth a watch.
Dark Souls 2 Gameplay Impressions from E3
Footage from the gameplay demo at E3 along with an interview
Of note we see two different characters. The badass dude from all the trailers and more lithe looking dual wielder.
Shows some magic as well.
I'm pretty sure they show three different characters.
I really liked the look of some of those weapons.
Footage looked good but the music was indeed awful and inappropriate.
It's all about marketing.
Do you remember ads and impressive trailers for Demon Souls and Dark Souls?
After the success of the past two games it seems they're trying to get their game a little bit more in to the public's eye. Dark Souls sold quite well and continues to sell well simply through word of mouth. Knowing that, advertising can't hurt, especially if DS2 turns out to be another fantastic game.
The "I am Undone" trailer is clearly targeted at an American audience who wants to play games where they are badass dudes who fuck people's shit up. I'm almost willing to go so far as to say they're trying to make a trailer that will make the game looking appealing to the average dudebro gamer.
It's almost misleading...first timers expecting to stomp the shit out of people ala God of War (or something like that) will be in for quite the surprise when they're killed by the first. couple enemies in the game
The first game's trailer with that Silent Comedy song in it was pretty awesome.

A LOT of good information in this video. Better than the other impressions video I linked to.
Duf, the badass knight guy and the sleek dual wielder are most likely NPCs that are only playable in the demo.
But you already know they can be poached for their shit at some point in the game so who cares, right?
They need to add an item you can purchase in this game (for a ton of souls) that prevents invasions.
Or just an option to turn it off.
Yeah, I know I can play hollow. But, as I understand it, loot drops are better when you are human and have a ton of humanity.
I admit that I love the idea of the unique identity Dark Souls multi element has. I love that it HAS a unique type of online identity. Just wish they'd make it optional, like PvP specific areas in MMOs.
Otherwise, fantastic game.
Oh that sucks. I didn't realize they prevent saving if you sign out of GFWL. That's really messed up. MS at it's finest. Let's hope DS2 doesn't use GFWL. I know the initial box art and webiste didn't have the logo, but I don't know if they've come out and confirmed it yet.
In Dark Souls being human does not effect loot drops. Only your item discovery stat does.
I'm pretty sure it's different in Demon's Souls.
Max item discovery is easy in dark souls. Covetous Gold Serpent Ring + 10 humanity and you'll be at 410.
You can get good drops with that ring and just one humanity.
We're getting closer.
I've been watching some of the streams of the network beta test that was a couple weeks ago. Mostly just watched people goofing around and doing PvP.
This game is going to be so good.
Here is the thing though, what system is everyone going to get this game on? This generation I just defaulted to getting all multi-platform games on the 360 because party chat is awesome, but you couldn't party chat in Dark Souls anyway (you could private chat.)
I did get the invite for the DKII beta a while ago.Still the catch was you could only play it,at a certain time of the day and that's it.I ended missing out because of that :hammer: Any ways i did go ahead and preorder it for the PS3.
Yeah the network test was like from 2-5AM EST.
But I think it was an all-regions test.
March 11th.
Save the date.
I'm going to take off work for this.
What console are we all getting this on?
I'm doing New Game blind, well, with the exception of this thread - I don't count gamers enjoying a game and learning it together as cheating.
Still undecided on a build but I'll probably go STR/FTH - cast some miracles, fat roll to my heart's content, and beat the fuck out of my enemies with a bigass club.
Getting it on the triple. Ever since demons souls I start as a wanderer and go dex/faith.
With this game you can't pick a class....your stat allocation does. So I think the incentive is there for me to just max out dex and learn to dual wield.
I just hope the outfit options are nearly as cool as they were in DS1.
Velkas Rapier + Logans Big hat + Chesters Long coat & Gloves + Pardoners black slacks/boots = my signature look
Hopefully DS2 has an equivalent that comes close to it.
In Dark Souls are there any Faith/Dex weapons aside from Ornstein's Spear?
I kind of want to run through the game with a character designed to wield his weapon and armor. Dude is a boss. Smough though, fuck him. Fucking bone eater.
I'm leaning towards getting this on the triple as well. I'll probably do that.
I never ran through the game as Pyromancer though.
I'm thinking about running through Dark Souls at least one more time before 2 comes out.
Pyro skills are just complimentary for anyone who puts no points into faith or magic.....last time I played I actually created a pure dex build just to dual wield Lords Blade Ciarans gear and dump spare souls into pyro skills (to augment my badassery a bit). Those 2 assassin weapons never wowed me until I put them in the hands of a dex build and now I'm impressed.
I think the way those 2 weapons work together has probably become a template for dual wielding in DS2....it's totally going to be a high risk, high reward type of build IMO.
As for Velkas rapier...it actually sucks even if you pump your magic stat....but it looks sexy as fuck and has a badass moveset so I just dumped another 30 points into magic for it. Actually, one place its really good is Gwyn when you parry/riposte the motherfucker.... even at New Game ++++++++etc.
Otherwise, my go-to faith/dex weapon was +5 occult Iaito (and a +10 divine washing pole for those fucking skeletons).
I also always wanted to make a character to Wield Artorias' sword.
I think my last character was a dex build. A Samurai. Had a lightining Katana, Divine Katana, etc - had all the Samurai swords. It was fucking stupid but a lot of fun.
Same shit here...I'm all about that samurai/ninja type shit.
The draw of these "souls" games is the mix of european content and japanese style....so my gear reflects that.
That's why fucking Logans hat is the best piece of equipment in the game....it looks a bit like a samurai's jingasa, and also a bit like something a pagan cultist would would wear in medieval europe...with it you can pull off so many exclusive "looks" that fit in so well into the DS universe.
Neobuyer hit the nail on the head when he said the draw of the game is how you go from a totally broke weakling to a wandering prowler all decked out in the property of those you killed.
Just took off work for March 11th.
I need to think up a new character for my next Dark Souls run. I think I'll go depraved.
Haha.
God its only so many months till I'll be playing 2.. But still to damn many!
Two months, seven days.
Yeah, it's going to be a long wait.
Just stopping by to say:
ummmmmmmmmmmmbasa
I just put in my preorder for Dark Souls 2 on the PS3.
Achievements/Tropies have been leaked. I had a look at 'em. I don't think I spoiled much by taking a look at them. There are some boss names in there, and I think if you look at the value of the Achievement and the name of one of the bosses you can figure out the name of the last boss. There are covenant related achievements.
You guys ever watch any Dark Souls videos on youtube? EpicNameBro has a pretty popular (mostly) Dark Souls channel. Anyway, I guess he was hired on by From Software as well as some other prominent members of the DS community to help write the Dark Souls 2 Strategy Guide. He has a pretty strict NDA but he was able to let on that he has played multiple builds of the game, and the build that is most likely the completed game. One thing he did tweet, quite enthusiasticly, was that Dark Souls 2 is a better game than Dark Souls. And this motherfucker loves Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. Given his videos/interaction with the community I don't think he is just being a shill for the game/strategy guide. I was pretty excited to hear his opinion on the game.
You guys see the CURSE trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbDmI_2IVQ8
I can't fucking wait to wield a Greatsword, Greatshield, cast some miracles, and crush my enemies. Oh, and the dying.
If anyone is interested, the Future Press hardback collector's edition SG for DS 2 is 40 percent off right now on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Souls-Collecto.../dp/0744015472
I really liked the Future Press SG for Dark Souls. They did really nice guides for Kingdoms of Amalur and Soul Calibur V, too. They're really well put together, and 40 percent off is a great deal for what's bound to be a very thick book as both a game resource and a nice collectible sidepiece to the game.
So a couple youtube/twitch personalities will be playing and streaming live a pre-release version (most likely a near final copy of the game) of Dark Souls 2:
http://www.reddit.com/r/DarkSouls2/c..._be_getting_a/
For more info.
I am most likely not going to watch, but I may read some of the information we gleam from this, at a minimum I'll read impressions of how the game looks/feels/plays.
At this point I'm not wanting to spoil much. Part of the fun is figuring out how to beat the damn game.
http://www.reddit.com/r/DarkSouls2/c...he_ama_stream/
Here is a good list of new features in Dark Souls 2.
None are plot, enemy, or world-location spoilers.
Just more about the mechanics of the game.
I won't be looking at any of it this time...I spoiled the fuck out of myself watching a stream of DS1 back in the day....
In some ways I don't regret it because the japanese dude playing it was an absolute rock star with the way he'd pull the binoculars on Gweneveres boobs, leave the room, then go back and scope em out one last time....everyone on the stream loved that shit.
Still, I think I'm gonna go into this one totally blind and see what happens....probably gonna start with a dex/poison build this time for the improved parries/acrobatic evasions(?), trap dismantling and dual weilding crossbows (lol) now that you can run and shoot in the game.
She is an illusion. She has already fled Anor Londo.
Spoilers regarding changes to co-op mechanics and covenants:
Spoiler:
I'm really excited for the new covenant system. I hope it works a lot better than in DS1.
That said I'm still thinking I'll be a Sun Bro on my first run through. Jolly Co-Operation!
I'm looking forward to the covenants that haven't been revealed. I wonder if there will be an equivalent to the Dragon Bros or Grave Lords?
I actually fired up DS1 and started a character inspired by Lagdufs idea (an artorias sword build)....but then I said fuck it and deleted him and tried to come up with a cooler looking, shit-simple endurance build.
Basically, you create a male character with the largest body frame,
get his str to lvl 36
get his hp to just a twats hair over the amount cured by estus flask +7
And dump the rest into stamina/endurance until he rolls at medium speed with the following equipment:
Black Iron Helmet/Body armor/legs
Havels gauntlets
Artorias Greatshield
Golem Axe
Havels ring, Ring of Artorias
Its a pretty neat build...like literally neat.
No attunement slots/magic/pyromancy/miracles, no hoarding items I don't give a shit about, not even crossbows.
Just an unbreakable, unstoppable badass....very little (almost nothing) staggers him and with that Artorias shield up they rarely get the chance.
Golems one-handed strong attack has you covered for range and the unique "wind" damage hurts everything in the game...the knockback also comes in handy on those god awful gorilla skeletons since most of them are waiting for you on the edge of a cliff. Just remember to keep lots of repair powder.
Curse will fuck you up something fierce with this build though. =/
I made an axe wielding pyromancer the other day. I want to make her like Krieg from Borderlands 2. A pure psycho.
It's getting hard not to look at the information on DS2 rolling in. I've avoided just about every spoiler post network-test, though I've unintentionally seen the name of a few of the areas from some stills.
So there will be weapon DLC for people who pre order DS II. I am not happy about at all. It looks like the items can also be obtained by just playing the game. I think this Weapon DLC takes away from what makes DS so awesome. That struggle of getting better, and finding interesting items. Now they are just given away to people?!?!?

Don't download the DLC, simple as that.
