I'm assuming a higher block rate would be preferable to block amount?
Yeah. go with Block rate over Block amount. Mitigating less damage more often is better than occasionally mitigating more damage in this game.
According to Magic Box, S-E sees financial gains due to success of FF XIV: ARR:
People, like Marcus Beer the Annoyed Gamer, are bitching about the pay subscription model. While I wouldn't complain if the game were free, S-E had already stated that the first build of FF XIV was more sucessful when they updated it and went to a pay-to-play model. Now we're seeing that, at least for S-E's profit margins and operating costs, they were wise to stick with what works for them.Quote:
Square Enix has upward revised its earing forecast due to better than expected earnings from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The net sales have increased from 59 to 61.7 billion yen, and the operating profit will be up from a 2 billion yen loss to a 4.7 billion yen profit.
Best Final Fantasy game in years.
YEARS.
Well Final Fantasy Type 0 counts too, it's a shame people overlooked it. I blame Tabata for choosing PSP over PS3, but on the bright side, with the lower hardware and standards expectations, they were able to do less with more, putting FFX, XII and the FFXIIIs to shame. But if anything deserves a console HD remaster or a proper PS4 quality visual upgrade (more than Final Fantasy VII) it's FF Type 0.
It's great FFXIV ARR is successful, the F2p model wouldn't have produced this much quality and potential updates, it would have sank just like
Dragon Ball Online recently closed down, and even if it held on with a F2P cult following, it's overall growth and expansion would be nothing compared to FFXI Online. It would just be a hollow mmo like DCUO or something that has no incentive to expand like GW2.
I hate the F2P model.
I'm level 36. Have yet to fight Titan - waiting for my crew to catch up. I'm over-leveled from grinding out Fates and Grand Company Leves to get those Company seals. I really enjoy the Grand Companies. I've yet to join a free company. Can you be in more than one free company?
Decent game but not good enough to make me keep p(l)aying.
I'm curious, what's a current MMO you would pay to play?
Still playing WoW because friends play it and none of them were interested in FF14. They also all own shit PCs.
Friends is why I play FFXIV. I'll be interested to see the endgame content. It's kind of hard to play FFXIV because I'm prepared to devote more time, and i'm more in to min-maxing, etc than they are.
Ah well, at least my Chocobo has some sweet armor.
My party just got trounced at Bayflox's Longstop. We run PLD (that's me), WHM, BRD + a random DPS.
It just wasn't happening.
The amount of damage I was taking was scary. I'm leveled synced in this dungeon (It's a lvl 32 dungeon) and I have level appropriate gear. So I'm pretty sure that gear wasn't the problem.
WHM said she couldn't keep up on the healing/was running out of MP. Perhaps the WHM wasoverhealing when I didn't need it? Not sure...might run the dungeon with 3 randoms to see if it's me who is the shitty party member.
Couple times I know people were not attacking the targets in the correct order...That's always fun.
We had trouble on every encounter, so I think it was just a teamwork issue in general. I'm not playing with the most hardcore of gamers and it seems the difficulty ramps up on this one.
When fighting the regular groups of mobs, sleep the adds and go after the biggest one first. Mark them in order before you spring Shield Lob. If you don't have sleep, your healer needs to be on top of their game.
When fighting first boss, the adds need to die fast. Tank should hold boss. DD kill adds.
Second boss fight is where the goblin appears half way through with a mob chasing him. Tank and spank until the second mob attacks. Then the first boss should be slept, if possible, and everyone swtich to the second boss. The goblin will randomly do Grenade Toss where one of the party members is standing. Get out of the AOE as fast as possible once he does. Kill the second mob quickly and then switch back to the first. The goblin will troll the whole fight. You just gotta deal.
Third boss fight typical tank and spank, while moving away from AOEs. Occasionally, the boss will trap a character in a bubble that DOTs. The bubble prevents the trapped player from doing anything except attacking the bubble. When the bubble appears, everybody needs to focus on destroying it ASAP so that the trapped character can get back in the fight. Near the end, the dragon Aiatar will show up. Tank and spank and avoid AOEs until he runs away.
Fourth boss is Aiatar again, and this time he must die. Tank should consider the room like a sort of giant clock and start tanking him at anywhere between 12 and 3 o'clock, keeping in mind that you enter the room at 6 o'clock. So tank has to run across room, grab and pull him to 12-3. It is imperative that all players avoid his cone poison AOE. He will randomly spit it at a character. When this happens, you must either Stun it somehow, like Shield Bash, or get the fuck out of the way. If you get hit, you take massive damage and also get a DOT on you which the WHM can get rid of w/Esuna. Eventually, the dragon will start spitting these giant puddles of poison on the floor. They remain there for a certain amount of time, and anybody standing in them will take DOT and also get a Poison DOT, which the WHM must remove w/Esuna. Keep in mind that if you are standing in it when you get the Esuna, you will get poisoned again. Lastly, if the dragon is standing in the poison, he slowly Regens health. At this point, tank has to pull the boss to another position in the room, another point on 'the clock.' Try to keep the boss somewhere close to the poison puddle but not so close that he's standing in it. The idea here is to minimize where he spits the next puddle. By keeping him on one side of the room and tanking him in a circle, you keep the floor as clear as possible for the fight. Although by the end of it, there will be poison everywhere. But in most cases, there's always a sweet spot you can move the dragon to where he doesn't heal. At 10 percent health, the DD should limit break. Repeat until dead.
Hope that helps.
So I joined a party in progress by myself. There were on the actual boss of that dungeon. We beat him on our 2nd try. I did well, I thought, though Aiatar's AOE is hard for me to get out of. I run out of it but always seem to get hit regardless. That was really the only troubling spot for me of that fight.
Anyway, after that I joined another party in progress who had only cleared the first boss. We then proceeded to clear the entire dungeon and I got some great gear from treasure coffers. I'll probably run this dungeon a few more times. My crew is working up to lvl 34 and then we're gonna run it again as group.
Taiso, do you know anything about the "notorious monster" FATES? I've fought Cancer in Costa Del Sol twice (epic battle, btw - love how big he is) but am I guessing correctly that his spawn is just on a timer? I'd love to get a list of other badass huge monsters and camp out in those areas just to fight them.
Is it true you can get a minion if you get a top score from the fate? I've got close on both times I've fought Cancer but I've never been there from the start.
So I think the fates that spawn the big monsters are just timed. I was camping the Costa Del Sol beach, got up to use the bathroom, came back and my crew told me I had just missed the Cancer spawn. So I noted the time and camped it out again and it spawned again exactly 60 minutes later.
Camped it out again and 60 minutes later no spawn. I'm cool with random timers.
Well my crew beat Brayflox's Longstop. I'd like to run it a couple more times so we can tune our teamwork, but I think we did pretty good. We wiped once on the second boss because our DPS kept attacking the boss immediately after our CNJ slept it :annoyed: Quite the miscommunication there. Second go on him we destroyed that encounter. No problems whatsoever on the third encounter.
Aitar took us about three tries. For whatever reason I have a hard time dodging his main AOE. If I was inbetween moves and couldn't stun it I'd walk outside of it but I always seemed to get hit anyway. Frustrating. Latency issue? I dunno.
Any tips for Sunken Temple?
Listen, I'm terrible at this game - but despite that is it too much to ask for a party member who can get out of Titan's straight line AOE that knocks you off the map?
Haha...it's frustrating to dodge that shit only to see the same team member knocked off again, and again, and again, and again.
I like the trials though wish there more at lower levels.
PS4 testing is starting in February. And the 2.1 updates are this month.
Looks like Pharos Sirius and Crystal Tower will add more refreshing dungeons to the list,
as well as something for the PVP fans among other things. :)
the 2.1 website and new video released.

Their momentum is still intense!! Looks like the 1st expansion will have the same amount of content as ARR launched with. I'd say there will be at least 2 new classes, 2 new cities (Ishgard, and maybe Gold Saucer if that's its own city), and lots of new zones, dungeons, quests, loot, cutscenes, expanded bestiary and more. http://www.polygon.com/2014/2/13/540...tart-for-naoki
I was up until 2:30 AM last night farming CT for gear. Finally conmpleted my MNK set. This game is still awesome and it still has me in a death grip.
The beta is now available for download on the PS4.
Downloading now.
Edit: My bad, this is just the preload. Servers won't go live until the 22nd.
Read that feedback can be sent here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/f...User-Interface http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/f...4%A2-Beta-Test
I played...all...day. (awesome, but not healthy)
It's good. It's nice to look at. The grind is fun. Framerate only dipped with over twenty players on screen at times. I managed to get Lancer, Archer, Conjurer, Carpenter, and Leatherworker to level ten before I stopped for the night.
It's FFXI all over again, only more accessible to new players.
I wonder if beta progress will rollover to the full release? I doubt it.
Alright, I have to stop playing the beta, I'm sold.
I'll be there day one when this goes live on PS4.
Are the schedules for the phases known at this time?
I'd like to play more, but I'd like my progess to carryover more so....
Edit: NM, I found it.
PS4 Phase 2: April 4th to April 7th.
And it's nice to know that all players (PC, PS3, and PS4) will be on the same servers.
I'm ready to dive in.
Absolutely, although I doubt we'll be able to party up for awhile. I don't know if there're any restrictions on party member levels. Wasn't it within a couple or few levels of each other in FFXI? Still...I'll come to your server and entice my Warframe friends who're also buying FFXIV to come along.
I'm looking forward to rolling an Elezen Bard, get my support/dps on.
I wouldn't be able to bring my main with you for guildleves, but I could easily crush any open world quests that you need help with.
Also, for instances the level will scale. So even though I have all the Disciples of War and Disciples of Magic at 50, and have at least Darklight gear and primal weapons for all of them except DRG (working on the gear), it will bring me down to whatever level you are. As long as I'm on and not already involved in some instance and you need a hand, call on me.
BRD is amazing DPS. With the right gear and accessories, you can dish some sick damage on that job. And you can do it on the move too, unlike BLM and SMN which have to stay put to cast spells.
I hope Amazon will offer a digital version of the time cards.
There's no way in hell I'm giving S-E my cc info.
This the time card you are talking about?
http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-.../dp/B00GOOSORM
Not sure if they email the code besides deliver the physical card, I'm not an online shopper
(though I did get Japanese PSN card from Play Asia once, they emailed the code).
Yes, I wouldn't trust SE Store for anything. Even PSN it's risky using CC, good thing retail stores sell PSN Cards.
I haven't called local game stores, but they might have FFXIV ARR 60 day time cards in. The North America time cards announcement was like a month ago, so maybe they are getting them in regularly now.
Ultimate Game Cards are supported too. That's what I use.
Close, but not quite. That is indeed a time card for 60 days on FFXIV ARR, but it's the physical card. I'm hoping there's a digital card I can purchase, something that can be redeemed immediately, without having to wait for delivery. Like PSN digital codes you can purchase from Amazon.

Well, PS4 beta phase 2 is near its end.
I powered through it, gaining access to Grand Companies and my chocobo over the weekend.
I want more.
Alright, my early access is lined up, I'm ready to spend an unhealthy amount of time in Eorzea. I'm sorry Taiso...but the Excalibur server wasn't open to new players during PS4's beta phase 2. I'll be beginning my adventure on Brynhildr. Depending on how much I enjoy the game I may (or may not) be looking to begin my own free company.
Friday morning...it starts. I'll probably be MIA from the boards for a couple weeks.
Sorry to hear it. Enjoy the game anyway, sir.
One thing I don't get, thought:
The game was free on PS4 but still tells me I need to enter a registration key to use the product.
I understand that they expect the monthly fee. That is evident. Not really sure why they would offer the client for free but not let you use it without a registration key...which costs money.
Like, if the client is free...why can't I just load it up and enter my existing account information?
If you go on PSN and look at it, it's listed as a free download but when I tried to load the client, it told me i need to enter a registration key. No big shakes, I was planning on buying a physical copy for PS4 anyway, but I'm still confused about how it's supposed to work.
If you play on PS4, can you also access your same account from the PC version?
I'm planning to give this a try, but my fear is that I'll get sucked in and then wish I could play on PC if I'm more serious about it down the road.
Hmm, then I believe what you see currently available on PSN is the client download for early access PS4 players. That's why it asked you for a registration key rather than redirecting you to the Mog Station. It's the same client that was used for beta phase 2, so of course everyone has access to that (even though it's technically offline at this time). I'd assume you'll see that "free" download button change to a "$39.99" button when the game goes full release on Monday.
Woooooough!
So over the past couple weeks I must've put well over 100+ hours into this. All of my classes are level 20+, with a few in their 30's. I've really enjoyed my time in FFXIV ARR and I'll continue to do so until the sub runs out. Unfortunately, I don't believe I'll commit any additional time after that.
I'm a lone wolf, the endgame content here isn't conducive to my playstyle. I don't appreciate the fact that a free company requires three people to get going. Without a free company membership I don't have access to company housing. Perhaps that'll change once personal housing becomes available?
Still...great game.
I hit the 'endgame wall' myself with this and stopped playing. It's not permanent, but I have absolutely no desire to log in right now, and don't know when I will.
I hit the same wall with XI, as well. I started to look at all the pimp gear that everyone else was getting and I got greedy for it. I went through it all in XI: Sky, Dynamis, Sea...all of it. I poured contless hours into endgame to get a chance at a decent drop. Once I got it, I felt no accomplishment. What was the point of getting it? To be better geared for...what?
To do it all again for another piece of gear.
I decided I didn't want to deal with all of the frustrations that go with endgame: the elitism, the impatience, the long, long hours, the futility of finding a good group.
I think that when I return to the game, I'm going to be a 'retired' adventurer. I'll be focusing on building up my crafting skills and leaving all the loot chasing to everyone else. And every once in a while, I might throw on the armor and weapons to help people do some things in game when they really need my PLD or MNK.
There's no denying that there's a ton to do in this game, and the PS4 build is amazing. But I am having a lot of fun playing other games right now, games that don't have that post game frustration factor.
Still, S-E has done a great job restoring this game and, I believe, the name of Final Fantasy. This is a great first step. Let's hope they don't fuck it up all over again with XV.
You would think after all these years someone would build an expansion pack or maybe in the core game a "retired" player camp. Maybe have you set up shop and have a different skill tree among other things. Just a thought.
So i'm finally ready to take the plunge back into this game and I look this thread up and Taiso quit :(
Taiso: I'm going to make a new S-E account and start over completely, so let me know what server you're on in case you do come back.
magician: you too
:)
Sorry cannonball, I won't be coming back to FFXIV. FFXIV was one of the best gaming experiences I've had this year, but I didn't love it enough to commit additional time beyond the free 30 days. Warframe, Diablo III, and Destiny will be at the core of my free time until the onslaught of amazing games arrive next year. Evolve, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Batman: Arkham Knight, Xenoblade Chronicles, The Division, Dying Light, Let It Die, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, No Man's Sky (?), Cyberpunk 2077 (?)...and those are just what I'm thinking of off the top of my head.
Wait, what?
I didn't quit. I'm still alive and kicking on the Excalibur server. In fact, I think I've been posting in the Gaming Update threads weekly that I'm still playing, so um yeah...not sure what's up with that:D
