Iraq ceremony to mark withdrawal of US troops

All while this juicy little number (already in discussion in another thread) makes its way through... http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011...etention-obama
It's my understanding that US Special Forces will continue to operate independently in Iraq, although in limited numbers.
Now back to Afghanistan...where we've been for a decade. There are people serving now in the military who were children on 9/11. I wonder what its like to grow up knowing only the specter of "terrorism."
You are such a fucking idiot it blows my fucking mind.
What basis do you draw the conclusion "I think that's profound" from? What fucking basis?
None.
Let me say this slowly, so your feeble ancient decrepit brain can understand it, fucktard: You are not a mind reader. You do not know what I am thinking at any given moment, or at any moment for that matter.
put down your handbags, ladies. No need for violence.
I'm just sick of that fucking idiot carrying on like he knows me when he clearly doesn't. It's fucking insulting.
For the most part, yeah - we're incrementally expanding (really we're regaining what we once had) our second amendment rights.
We've been dealt some serious blows on the 4th Amendment front (no illegal search and seizure) and some other cases. The fact that one has to specifically invoke his right to remain silent is bothersome.
Aren't they kicking us out?
Yeah, Al Maliki needs to clean up the guest room so he can have a nice place to stay when the Islamists kick him out of office.
Not to be a spot blowing dick, but it's a good idea to make Al Maliki look like a traitor the US interests as he takes back the country. Helps him gain favor from public opinion. But I figure it's transparent, and that the their ayatollah and their neighbors won't buy any of it.
Iran seems to be a threat to Iraq.
The US gives Saddam bio-weapons to punk out Iran from trying any funny shit.
Iran grows in power, starts to become a legit military force.
US seems Saddam a madman for having bio-weapon, so we have him taken out.
Iran can now fuck with Iraq at will.
Forgeign policy at it's finest.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand Christopher Hitchens is dead.
Let's look at old Iraq threads.
Longer
Long thread from 2004 around Fahrenheit 9/11
2005
Very weird seeing the names of disappeared members. Big changes in some of the members who are still around. I wonder if NG.com would still be around for the Iran pull-out thread.
I wonder how many people will credit Obama for ending the war, when it was decided for all troops to leave during the tailend of Bush's administration. Maybe the shoe throwing overshadowed that fact.

we can all go home
Look how bad everyone's spelling was before browser autochecking.
I'd be more entertained reading a thread with Jhendrix flaming Wind Waker and repeatedly calling it "Celda" and saying fans got robbed of a darker Zelda and force-fed kiddy bullshit.
Some of the 2004 election threads must certainly be interesting as well...
Chimp shat in every thread with the word "NINTENDO" in it.
Anyone still got the pic of him at the party with pee pants? :kekeke:
I remember "Wind Waker" was a trigger phrase for chimpy.
The whole concept of a "dark Zelda" is an oxymoron.
The pissmeister pic is one of my all-time faves, eclipsing even dashK's myspace stuff.
What about "Dash K Radio"?
I still have Mp3s of that on one of my HDs somewhere.
I still typo even with auto correct as dont look at the screen when I type, then end up editing 2 or 3 times.
The original Zelda was a lonely game in a barren wasteland. Closer in theme to Colossus than any recent Zelda.
That's why the original Legend of Zelda is a lot like Star Wars: A New Hope, in that; the true genius of the franchise-establishing original-article was due more to budget constraints and circumstance of production than deliberate directorial decision-making by each series' respective creator
Looking at the original concept sketches, the Legend of Zelda that Miyamoto wanted looked more like Astyanax than the Zelda that we played and loved. Essentially, due to technical limitation of programming of the early-NES era, if the budget and time-frame would have allowed for it, we would've gotten a more-primitive and crappier version of Zelda II: Link's Adventure first.
The underlying irony of the Star Wars Prequels: If an inexperienced*, untested, n00b-director George Lucas was given the sufficient budget and clout to create his ultimate vision of a sci-fi space-opera (I.E. the Revenge of the Sith) in his first go, the resulting mess of a movie wouldn't have gained the explosive popularity that would later fund a six-episode Juggernaut of a franchise (Christmas Special, notwithstanding) which would have allowed him make his boring and wooden vision of what Star Wars "should have been."
*to be honest, THX-1138 is unremarkable as a movie, especially as a crappy sci-fi movie made in an era littered with crappy sci-fi movies, other than as a source for later Star Wars and audio-hardware trivia. Also, fuck Grease.
The Shiites are now in power in Iraq thanks to the US. Iran has been run by Shiites forever. Iran is going to absorb Iraq pretty quickly. We "liberated" Iraq, according to Republicans and the government. That liberation is more like un-caging a pissed off lion and then running away, hoping he doesn't catch up to you and rip your infidel face off. Basically, it's going to be the most extremist christian nation against the most extremist Muslim nations.
lol you kind of undermine your opinion here by throwing in some random, unrelated John Travolta/Olivia Newton-John movie. I guess it's better than if you'd said Happy Days, though.
Still, if you think THX 1138 is unremarkable, my honest advice is to watch it again.
Surely that's a bit of an exaggeration. Anyone else?
SWEET, now we can go to Iran next week.
Wait, already?
Seriously though, I thought the US presence in Iraq would just keep going, like at least til 2015 - There would just always be a new excuse or the Iraqi government would ask some more-than-willing generals in the pentagon for "Training and Assistance" or whatever code word they wanted to use.
Good, I guess. Can they start the expedient return of troops from Afghanistan now? And not use those exhausted soldiers to embark on a ruinous crusade to Tehran? Where the chickenhawk leaders will again have to explain why they were sure they'd find something but found nothing, as the Strait of Hormuz gets closed down and oil prices skyrocket and even deeper financial catastrophe ensues, for the sake of Israel - who will undoubtedly get bombed and terrorized into oblivion as a result? One can dream :(
Also, for those who care about/want to learn more about the war and haven't seen it, No End In Sight is a terrific documentary about the (lack of) planning and execution of the first few years.
The combat troops in Iraq are going to Afghanistan.
The US will still have a presence in Iraq but drastically reduced.
why do we still have troops in germany and japan
While we're at it, why do we still have troops here? Have you ever been on a reservation? Those guys are defeated in a way seldom seen in this world. There is definitely no counter-offensive forthcoming.
