"Undocumented immigrant"
haha
How so? For every "undocumented immigrants" as they like to say that gets financial aid...a citizen doesn't receive it. Plus think about this: "Under AB 131, undocumented immigrant students will be eligible for state Board of Governors fee waivers, student aid programs administered by a college or university..." How many of those "undocumented immigrants" will pay those student aids back? What's stopping them from moving some where else since we know squat about them...
more educated "undocumented immigrants" is the only way we will ever push the envelope in taco technology, to oppose this dream act is to oppose superior tacos, opposing superior tacos is UNAMERICAN!
You weren't paying attention then.
I had a reply typed up right when you made this thread, then thought, "why bother?" But, what the hell?
I love how people fancy Japan to be some fucking fairytale land where all your dreams come true. I hope it turns out to be that way for you.
Fair enough, I suppose. I guess it is nice paying a lot less for health insurance.
I guess what I should have said is that it's funny that people seem to ignore the social problems Japan has.
Where in Japan are you going to live?
Most likely in the Fukuoka area also I'm very aware that Japan has tons of social problems, but I personally didn't experience any.
People who live in other countries and people who have been out of college for 20 years sure have a funny idea of what's really going on.
Our colleges have had severe budget cuts for the last 3-4 years, and likewise with the grant and scholarship money. There's not enough money to go around... and yet here we are making it legal for illegals to get a piece of the already badly shrunken pie.
I'm all for amnesty, but give me a break...
Do you have to be a documented undocumented person in order to be eligible?
Yeah I dont actually get that.
Could someone just say, Mi nombre es Jose Lopez, write it down, and you're good to go?
And applying for loans too?
Color me confused.
Yeah but if we gave all the illegals immigrants amnesty tommorrow then this issue would come up immediately, since we'd be dealing with an influx of citizens.
I guess what I'm saying is that is would be cruel to kick them out, so we might as well integrate them into the system so they pay taxes, etc. I think that would help take care of the tuition problem to an extent. I haven't put too much though into it, but I think scholarships should go towards to most promising students that aren't stupid rich. This feels like they're giving them to Mexicans as more of a political "oh yes we did" than anything else.
I know I'd be pissed if I lost my college aid/spot to some illegal immigrant that was more qualified.
my big problem is the money is not being given to the people that have paid into the system at all. yes they are on a path to citizenship- but it doesnt mean they will become one.
i say make it a requirement- become a citizen. If they are such shining examples of undocumented aliens, then becoming a citizen shouldnt mater. It is not the fault of an undocumented child who crosses a border with their parents- they dont know the difference. Make them jump through the hoops- then let the dream happen once you put something in.
I dont understand how you can even attend elementary and high school as an illegal immigrant....
There had to be a conciliation somewhere.
I think about it like this.
We demonize illegal immigration, yet refuse to punish those who employ them for half of minimum wage or less.
So business owners who want to keep their profit margin where it is refuse to hire citizens and pay them the bare minimum our society demands.
If we are going to employ illegal immigrants to sustain our economy (which is exactly what they do) their kids need to go to daycare, aka. elementary school.
Kicking all those kids out of school means their parents cant work, means crops dont get harvested, means cars dont get washed, floors cleaned, etc.
Look at what happened to Alabama and Georgia recently after their illegal workers stopped showing up on account of the new laws.
I wish i was and illegal immigrant so i could get benefits for free and not pay income tax or anything else.
Yes and all that xenophobic racism you encounter walking down the street is free too.
You'd have so much fun with your job options, picking tomatos, washing cars, roofing.
All for less than minimum wage! Yes they have it so cushy.
Wait maybe you could try and live in Greece as an illegal immigrant! They'd be happy to have you and you wouldnt even stick out like a sore thumb on account of your skin color.
Stop feeling sorry for people. Everyone goes through racism, and btw, that statement is nonsense. I live in california, and my entire youth consisted of being called every racial slur for whites in the book. Guess who said them nearly daily? Mexicans.
By the time you're through with how much this government takes, you practically have tomato money. Its retarded in california as is.
LWK the whole world is not California, ok? Though I do recognize there are places like parts of California and Arizona where that would happen to you. And it sucks that it did happen to you. But everybody DOES NOT go through racism. Not even close.
I know you've only left two times, but trust me as someone who has lived and travelled to lots of places, the average illegal immigrant in the USA is highly conspicuous. They work jobs in communities where they are not, at all, the majority ethnicity.
Your bit about the governments' take leaving you with tomato money is a total joke.
Where did I say the whole world is california? This law is specifically about california, and unless you live here, you have no idea how many illegal's are here. You think if my white ass stood on the street with the rest of the illegals that I wouldn't get busted for it? These people get a free pass, and I don't give a damn how shitty it is for them, they chose to come here with zero respect for this country.
Even been beaten up for being white?
Also, I say let the crops rot, if Americans are to stupid shit lazy to do that type of work, then let them starve. Maybe a lack of such things will give us the balls we had in the 30's to have some fucking industry once more so we don't need to have retarded regulations that farm out everything that could make decent money in america.
Complacency has limitations.
You know why we need stupid laws like this? Because illegals are not as entitled as american's are to begin with. They don't have ridiculous pride and don't mind working jobs everyone looks down upon. American's were stronger in ethic when the generation was earlier and many of the major american crowds were different waves of immigrants. The only ones we have now who seem to have this ethic in a large general example are these illegal mexicans. Its not fair to single out mexicans either, but it'd be a lot better if just did a wave of amnesty, and tightened the borders with highly educated people. The people put in charge of shit in america are by and large some of the dumbest people around.
Also, what I am saying WILL happen, there's no other conclusion that can come from it. Either amnesty them, protect your borders and do it fucking right for once, or don't have law. We'll still get illegals, but it won't be as fucked up as it is now.
Its not about being stupid shit lazy.
Its about being paid enough to live and have a family, even in the most modest way, to live.
You go fucking pick tomatos for 3.50/hr and see what you can buy with that.
Honestly I would love to see what kind of song youd be singing if you didnt own property and have the current situation that you do.
If you had to compete for a starbucks barista job with 20 other people.
If you were working 50 hour weeks at a scrapyard, which sucks in the first place, then got your hours halved.
Etc.
You talk a lot of shit from a relatively comfortable position.
There's actually plenty that "undocumented immigrants" have to provide for aid under the dream act. Basically, you have to prove that your parents moved you to the US when you were a minor and that you've had steady living in one area for something like 5 years. It's a big topic at the high school where I am working.
Why don't they have a right to?
Is that what is required to attend primary and secondary school? Paying for it? Lots of non-illegal immigrants in primary and secondary school that are no different in that respect.
Perhaps to put it in a different way: Education is considered a right in the United States. It is a right of every citizen of this state.
After that, people can argue as to exactly what is "citizenship" and decide whether geographical existence or legal status is the true defining aspect.
The pursuit of education should be a right, but the problem is that when someone is rewarded for breaking the rules, those that follow the rules feel disenfranchised. We shouldn't care about those who break the rules just because they are getting paid peanuts to make this country run. We should actually be sending every employer of illegals to state penitentiary. Of course this would be seen as racist since only white people would be sentenced for that crime.
Let the illegals get what they want at the same cost as everyone else, proving documentation, etc, but don't let corporations get away with illegal labor. While some people don't want those jobs because they don't pay minimum wage. Take away those who work for less than minimum wage and you will see American citizens flock back to the jobs that used to be theirs.
Do people in this society understand that the employment of and resulting production from low-paid foreigners is the only thing which prevents them from realising that they are under-compensated for their work, and that this imperialist nature has been implemented to prevent them from a rebellion against capitalism itself?
I think it's considered a right more for the reason that without an educated population, the country falls further behind the rest of the world in everything, leading to worse and worse ecconomic problems. Forget about entitlement issues or who you think is spoiled. If you want the United States to become a third world nation, the quickest way to achieve that is to not have education be available to a large segment of the next generation.
Everyone has the 'right' to an education. No one has the obligation to provide education to everyone.
No one has the obligation except that it's in everyone's long term interests that an education is available to everyone. Not all of us are ready to be self-sustaining backwoods libertarians living in an anarchist's wonderland. Some of us would like to see the nation prosper and advance. Sure, civilization may be in decline, but why rush it?
As one Californian to another... haven't you noticed it becoming a 3rd world country already? I'm sorry to say, but the immigrants are bringing their 3rd world lifestyle here. Their neighborhoods that they group themselves in are in disrepair and you can't tell the difference between them and a street in their home country (this goes for all of them) if you put them side-by-side. They seem to have no pride in ownership and let their lawns collect tall grass and children's toys. I see it all over my neighborhood, and across the entire city. And it hasn't been any different anywhere else I've traveled in California either. They have no interest in assimilation to the American lifestyle, so why should we allow them to become Americans?
And we damn well shouldn't educate them. You guys may think this is xenophobic horse-shit, but mark my words: they will take over one of these days and ruin this country. And when they're through milking this land for all it's worth, they'll go right back home. They don't give a fuck about the land of opportunity, they only care about the opportunity itself.
How do you reconcile these statements?
Hmmm... Crying reverse racism. Didn't know you were a Fox News watcher, LWK.
It may not be pretty, but I have seen the same things in my area. Make no mistake, however: This is what happens when we live in a state which believes in personal freedom without promoting a centrism toward the collective whole.
It is my belief that the U.S.A. has no centre, and perhaps, officially, it never has. But in a time where respect for social freedoms are preventing many from gearing themselves toward working for a greater whole, the only alternative to a failing laissez-faire mentality is for greater regulation to guide people of all social-interests toward a central goal.
