Just got done watching the premiere. Gotta say, that was a pretty weak episode... And the creators still seem to think we care about Angel. What the fuck. I haven't given two shits about that guy from the get-go, and I'm not about to start now.
Not too keen on the religious angle either. Still, it is just the first episode. Plenty of time left to pull it together after this.
so, basically, pass on it.
I can't say I feel too excited about this. I was super duper excited for Dexter up until the last season ended as weakly as it did.
At least Walking Dead is back in 2 weeks.
I never got around to watching season 3, partly due to so many people saying it wasn't as good as the first two. And honestly, I didn't think 2 was as good as 1. The series started with a great premise, but they just seemed to keep humanizing him as if the writers forget what a sociopath is. Maybe they felt they had to if the series was going to continue on indefinitely. But it makes it less interesting to me.

I enjoyed the first episode. Last season was a step in the right direction from the Lithgow borefest. Seems like this one is getting back to Dexter's roots even more so.

The 4th season as everybody else has said, was and is the shit. Lithgow baby. I liked the new episode, glad that Showtime has it on their YouTube channel, minus the titties and f-bombs which pretty much renders Deb as a mute in the show, but a lot better then the last season premier.
i see a lot of potential here. i liked the new episode. it had everything a season premiere needed- a fresh killing, a new established main target, a little social awkwardness, and a great pair of boobs.
i think its getting back on track here.

I guess I felt like it'd been overshadowed by stuff like Breaking Bad and Boardwalk Empire. But like I said, that's one episode out of 12 or 13. It's no reason to write off the season or anything, at least not yet.
I really like the religious aspect. I'm not religious at all, but I think some religious nuts are crazy so it should make a good season.
Dexter got a couple kills in, they didn't wait until halfway through the season to introduce the main antagonist (plus Dexter may actually show an interest in him, unlike the brothers from last season or the Skinner from 3), I don't know what happened to Rita's kids but no big loss because it means the story won't go in the awful direction the books did (with those kids at least), Harrison has somewhere to go so we don't have to worry about babysitters like last season, saw some tits, Masuka got his moments, and Angel and LaGuerta got a divorce thank god.
I'm giving the first episode a thumbs up for now. I know the Quinn and Debra angle will be annoying but every Debra plotline is annoying so I'll live.
The Harrison in Catholic school plot also gives a nice opportunity to explore the differences between Harry and Dexter. Namely, Harry was only interested in Dexter avoiding jail while Dexter actually seemed to want to do good.
There's a scene in season 2 or 3 where Harry takes Dexter to an execution and he asks Dexter what the number 1 rule is. Dexter says "make sure it's the right person" while Harry says it's "to not get caught." That sort of thing that will have to show up if they develop baby Harrison as a future killer.

I must be in the minority in that I don't mind Batista as a character. I prefer Matsuka and his antics, and the forensic newbies will be fun to watch. He's a riot no matter what, so I'm happy. Plus, I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of relationship Olmos has with our new killer. It feels vaguely reminiscent of Dexter and his father.
it wasn't bad, but I took a lot of breaks while watching it. It's not focused. Too many plot lines. Laguerta becoming captain after finding the chief's info in a black book, Angel's little sister, Harrison in school, Quinn trying to take things to the next level, etc. The problem with all of that is that the show is about Dexter, not a department. The audience is not tuning in to find out if Deb and Quinn are serious. Let these things happen in the background.Quote:

Looks like things are picking up a bit. I'm getting really fucking sick of Laguerta having her thumb in every pie in sight, though. That character just needs to fuck off and die already. Maybe Dex will kill her. A man can dream.
Anyways, I liked the guest spot from the OCP chairman. I thought he did a good job of not being an idiot, but still not being any real threat to Dexter. I love how Dex took him out, too. "Everyone will think you died of a heart attack!" "NOOOOOO" *smother*
The 4 horsemen ending made this season's antagonists a lot more interesting. The "snakes" killer wasn't really doing it for me up until this. Reminds me more of Brian Moser from season 1 with the public displays.
Crap. :( I did, but Season 3 was the first season of Dexter that I watched. That may have something to do with it, but I did feel that season 4 could have ended a few episodes early. It's like the story arc was done but they sold showtime a set number of episodes and had to add some filler to fulfill their end of the bargain.

I see a character evolution on Dexter's side, which makes completely sense. You can't hope for Dexter NOT to change after everything he's been through, his dark passenger is still there, yes, but ALSO he's been facing a lot more "regular human" situations which eventually have changed him a little bit, without compromising the way he is deep down inside his persona. You see him actually developing bonds with Rita, the children... specially Harryson... there's nothing fake there, those are actual feelings right there. So you can't actually blame the writers because they are starting to make him more human like, his evolutions is merely a reflection of everything we've been seeing since season 1, growth. I do believe it all started as a cover up thing, but now is much more than that.
Well, Dex is either a monster or he isn't. To me the biggest flaw of the show was the fact that the writers can't seem to figure that one out. I used to think that the show would end with him getting caught or killed, but now I think it's going to be pure redemption. Lame.
I just hope he doesn't find religion for real... that would be some serious bullshit, and a real shark jumping moment (assuming they haven't already).
That said, I do like Olmos in the show. I just wished we got more of him vs Dex instead of all this other bullshit.
I liked the way "just let go" episode ended, sort of like "giving in" and then Brian showing up like that... it was shocking, in a good way.
However "Nebraska" put him right back in the "good path". I liked that small detour Dexter took, I wish it would have lasted longer, I mean Travis sure seems to have redeemed himself for good, although I doubt he has actually quit ...

Dexter seems to genuinely enjoy killing people, and the show doesn't back away from that -- except Dexter is constantly trying to search for 'light' within himself (*groan*), and vying for redemption all the while.
He murders people without remorse, sometimes even though they don't deserve it (there's been at least one case where he was wrong about someone, but didn't seem to care much), but the show doesn't seem to think he's a bad guy.
I dunno. We'll see how it ends. If nothing else, Colin Hanks has been doing a pretty good job alongside Olmos, and I remain interested enough to be invested. I think this show's best days are behind it though.
Oh, here's my theory, by the way: Olmos is gonna kill Hanks.
