If they had a Robocop statue in Detroit, I'd have a reason to visit there....But to be fair, I've never been there so I don't know what I'm missing. I've been to Jackson though, and that place sucks. (Yes I know they're two totally different cities, that's just the one that I've been to in Michigan.)

It should be Bing's prime directive to build the statue for the people.

to be fair it would be stolen or burnt to the ground in a matter of hours.

Would ya'll be pissed if they decided to erect the statue and when the pull the covers off it ends up being the Robocop from "Be Kind Rewind"?

You pretty much summed up what I was thinking. This needs to happen.

A robocop statue would probably raise tourism.
They should have an ED209 statue too.
Probably would be vandalized the by the same time the next day too.
:)

Detroit didn't run itself to the ground from politicians making sound judgment. But then again, honoring Robocop is like slapping their own police force in the face.

If they put up a Robo Statue, they could have an accompanying Clarence Boddicker statue. Then they could put it at the airport and have a plaque under it that says "Bitches, leave".

On a semi-related note, Duke just signed junior five-star prospect ALEX MURPHY.
And yes, I think Detroit should have a RoboCop statue.

When I saw the thread, I thought it was about a Robocop Statute...
And that's just what the Motor City needs... A robocop Statute.

That would be excellent.

I want a Axel Foley statue with a button that you press and you hear this
The city will offer 200 tax-foreclosed homes to police officers who will be able to buy them for $1,000 and then get $150,000 in federal grants to rehab them.
So.. they'll let the Rehabs in, but not Robocop?
Someone find a hand cannon and a fucking jetpack. I'm heading up there.. NOW.

They should do it like the old small time police departments where you got to use your police car 24/7.
I think they still do that some places down south.

I've been to Detroit many times.. I will tell you this... they could put me in an armored SWAT vehicle and I still wouldn't fucking live there.
If the asshole of the world had an armpit, it would be Detroit.
Even the 'burbs of detroit are a shit pit.

Ferndale and Royal Oak are nice suburbs of Detroit. There are really shitty parts bu there are also good parts. There has to be a high class part because there's a lambo dealership out there

The best part of the story is that the real OCP donated a large sum to get the statue up.

I can see why the mayor would be against it. It would be a seven foot tall admission of defeat. But it's a little unrealistic to think Detroit's image could be any worse.

"Once the price tag is determined, a team of skilled sculptures"
They should use the money for proofreaders at the Detroit Free Press.

Before I had finished fully reading your post metalczar had already popped in my head. I cant remember specifics, but I think you're right.
That was pretty awesome! I've heard that Peter Weller hates when people bring up Robocop for some time now, so this was a nice surprise.

They should do another one with him as Buckaroo Banzai promoting a new Banzai Institute to help the people of Detroit.
Seriously though, they either need a real OCP or metalczar could just fund the Detroit restoration project with his big tymer funds.
Fuck that guy.

Not only should they erect Robo and ED-209 statues, but I want a mural of my Av to go along with it. Plus, they should have RoboCop day at Comerica Park where folks dressed in cosplay from the franchise get into a Tigers game for free.
Make all of this happen, Detroit. Give American pop culture something to really be proud of, not Miguel Cabrera's annual drunken outburst.

I've been a fan of the movie since I was a kid, even own it. The movie itself is NOT a good movie, watching it is fun and it's about as off-the-wall as you can get. But just because it's a cult classic ( a hand handful of people adore it) does not automatically mean it's a good movie.
